Went out to eat last night in Seattle....

Had a 30-45 minute wait to get in...

Spent a lot of time out the past few days spending money in local businesses. Had some fresh scallops with fresh vegetables down from Pikes place the other night. Bought some chocolates and popcorn from local shops, I bought a couple of vinyl records from a local store. Been out twice for dinner.

Last night we went a Southern style restaurant looking forward to the Sunday fried chicken special. Didn't know what to expect, but I guess I wasn't expecting a 30-45 minute wait to get in.  People still "want" to go out and do things, but at this point nobody will be allowed to do so. Today everything is shut down, so I am glad we got out when we did.

We've had a chance to talk to some of the vendors, bar owners, and other workers... and I sort of expected something different. Even though local businesses are losing business and seem concerned with their financial fate, there seems to be an almost universal belief that the coronavirus is nothing short of the black plague.

You might think that a business owner or employee might be upset that their livelihood is in jeopardy due to what is still less than a hundred deaths in the US (over about a 10 week period), but that really isn't the case. Many people (especially the millennials that we are running into) are "really" convinced that this is way more contagious and way more deadly than anything we have ever seen.

Time will tell how back the coronavirus will be, but there isn't any tangible evidence that it is that much more contagious or that we will see some sort of death rate measured in large percentages. But of course, in 2020 the reality isn't in what we can prove, but it is in what spin we can spread.

This is the official website. It shows 41 total US deaths by 3/13. Not sure why they are lagging. Does have an interesting chart of COVID-19 cases in the United States by date of illness onset about halfway down.

I'm no expert so will let others explain, but that chart does not illustrate anything near an exploding rate, in fact it appears perhaps decreasing ??? Not enough data ???

Coronavirus shutdowns spread across U.S. as death toll tops 70

UPDATED ON: MARCH 16, 2020 / 12:32 PM / CBS NEWS

If last week was one of realization, this one looks set to be one of reality biting. Millions of Americans' daily lives have already been disrupted, and millions more are about to be altered by the fast-evolving coronavirus response from local, state and federal authorities. Some of the biggest cities in the U.S. have decided to close schools, theaters, bars and restaurants except for take-out service, and the list is growing.

The federal government has denied a rumor the entire country is facing a two-week quarantine, but Anthony Fauci, the veteran epidemiologist helping craft the Trump administration's response to the pandemic has made it clear all options remain "on the table."

More than 3,700 people have tested positive for the new COVID-19 disease in the U.S. and at least 71 have died. Globally, the death toll was just over 6,500 on Monday, with the weekend seeing an alarming spike in fatalities in three European nations grappling with aggressive outbreaks. While more than 169,000 people have caught the virus around the world, almost half have already recovered, and the vast majority of cases remain mild.

The need to shield older people and those with weakened immune systems from the disease has driven a global movement — promoted by disease experts and officials everywhere — for people to practice "social distancing." The message is simple: The more we avoid mixing with others, the more we can slow the spread of the virus and give scientists time to develop weapons against it and ease the burden on hospitals.

Honest, decent, truthful Rev. said...

Once again, I repeat my sincerely held hope that the number of sicknesses and deaths will remain low in our country. As for the politics of it, any of you who are not aware that Trump should have been far more cautious in his remarks are out of touch with simple reality.

Coronavirus vs. the Flu: The Difference Between a 1% and 0.1% Fatality Rate Is Huge
By JOHN MCCORMACK March 14, 2020 8:24 PM

In congressional testimony this week, Dr. Anthony Fauci, one of the top medical experts in the Trump administration, said that the new coronavirus “is ten times more lethal than the seasonal flu.”

On his radio show Wednesday, Rush Limbaugh was outraged that media reports focused on Fauci’s comparison between the coronavirus’s 1 percent fatality rate and the seasonal flu’s 0.1 percent fatality rate. Fauci also noted that the coronavirus’s fatality rate is much lower than what has been reported by the World Health Organization. The 3 percent fatality rate cited by WHO, said Fauci, does not account for many minimally symptomatic and asymptomatic cases.

And that’s the real story, Limbaugh said on his program:

'Ten times more lethal? Lethal than what? What does “lethal” mean? Does lethal kill you? Does lethal infect you? Does lethal give you a temperature of 102 versus 100? What does it do to you? It’s a meaningless comparative. Ten times more lethal? The only thing worth knowing in this story is that Anthony Fauci says the fatality rate to coronavirus is much less than what they believed.'

It is 1 percent. It is not between 3 and 6 percent, and that number, 3 percent and 6 percent, has been out there for a couple of weeks.

To answer Limbaugh’s question — What does “ten times more lethal” mean? — the math is simple. If 40 million Americans get the seasonal flu, a 0.1 percent fatality rate means 40,000 deaths. If 40 million Americans get the new coronavirus, a 1 percent fatality rate means 400,000 deaths.

So the difference between a 0.1 percent and a 1.0 percent fatality rate could be 360,000 dead Americans.

Emphasis on could be. Fauci was directly asked during his congressional testimony how many Americans will get the coronavirus and how many will die. “It is going to be totally dependent on how we respond to it. So, I can’t give you a number,” Fauci replied. “If we are complacent and don’t do really aggressive containment and mitigation, the number could go way up . . . many, many millions.”

The difference in fatality rates explains why extreme measures are being taken to combat the coronavirus but not the seasonal flu. As Justin Fox reported at Bloomberg:

Influenza can’t be controlled because as much as half the transmission of the disease occurs before symptoms appear. With Covid-19 that proportion seems to be lower, meaning that even though it’s more contagious than influenza once symptoms appear, it may be possible to control by testing widely and quickly isolating those who have the disease. This is one reason (there are others) the WHO’s Tedros won’t call it a pandemic.

“The threat of a pandemic has become very real,” he said Monday. “But it would be the first pandemic in history that could be controlled.”

Honest, decent, truthful Rev. said...

H1N1 [swine flu] couldn’t be controlled in 2009, but was mild enough that this did not lead to disaster. Covid-19 is a much more dangerous disease that maybe, just maybe, can be stopped.

Exponential growth of some diseases means that the number of Americans infected can multiply from a single case to 60 million in a year, as was the case with the H1N1 swine flu in 2009. (The swine flu had a fatality rate of only 0.02 percent, so only 12,500 Americans died.)

Yet many opposed to the “social distancing” measures being imposed right now in America don’t even acknowledge how much higher the fatality rate of the new coronavirus is than that of the flu.

For example, Heather Mac Donald writes at The New Criterion: “There were 34,200 deaths in the United States during the 2018–19 influenza season, estimates the cdc. We did not shut down public events and institutions to try to slow the spread of the flu.”

Those who suggest that the coronavirus presents no greater threat than does the seasonal flu need to answer some questions:

Why are Italian hospitals being overrun with Covid-19 patients, and why doesn’t that happen with the seasonal flu? Why can’t that happen here?

Why are the Iranians digging mass graves that are visible from outer space?

Why did Communist China — a regime that cares much more about national strength than about human life — shut down factories and bring its economy to the brink of recession in an effort to contain the spread of the virus?

Why did Japan announce a month-long closure of all schools two weeks ago, when there were only four coronavirus deaths in the entire country?

Are we supposed to believe that the Japanese, South Koreans, and Chinese are panicky idiots who don’t understand math and science?

We don’t have to rely on (positive!) national stereotypes to grasp the size of the threat, of course. We Americans can do the elementary math ourselves. If tens of millions of Americans get a disease with a 1 percent fatality rate, it would be a national catastrophe.

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

I think that this situation is being extremely exaggerated.

The death rate is very low. Most people who have died from this disease are older people who have pre existing conditions.

Now the Italian College of Anesthesia, Analgesia, Resuscitation and Intensive Care (SIAARTI) has published guidelines for the criteria that doctors and nurses should follow as these already extraordinary circumstances worsen. The document begins by likening the moral choices Italian doctors may face to the forms of wartime triage that are required in the field of “catastrophe medicine.” Instead of providing intensive care to all patients who need it, the authors suggest, it may become necessary to follow “the most widely shared criteria regarding distributive justice and the appropriate allocation of limited health resources.”

The principle they settle upon is utilitarian. “Informed by the principle of maximizing benefits for the largest number,” they suggest that “the allocation criteria need to guarantee that those patients with the highest chance of therapeutic success will retain access to intensive care.”

The authors, who are medical doctors, then deduce a set of concrete recommendations for how to manage these impossible choices, including this: “It may become necessary to establish an age limit for access to intensive care.”

Those who are too old to have a high likelihood of recovery, or who have too low a number of “life-years” left even if they should survive, would be left to die.
This sounds cruel, but the alternative, the document argues, is no better. “In case of a total saturation of resources, maintaining the criterion of ‘first come, first served’ would amount to a decision to exclude late-arriving patients from access to intensive care.”

Honest, decent, truthful Rev. said...

I highly recommend Caliphate's 12:23PM article from The Atlantic by Yascha Mounk (though probably not for Cali's reason).
It indicates that REALLY, REALLY BAD CONDITIONS DEMAND THAT SOME VERY DIFFICULT CHOICES BECOME ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY.

But only in such a case.

Apparently the Italians are realizing that they have something EXTREMELY difficult to deal with.

But let's read the ending of that Atlantic article:

In addition to age, doctors and nurses are also advised to take a patient’s overall state of health into account: “The presence of comorbidities needs to be carefully evaluated.” This is in part because early studies of the virus seem to suggest that patients with serious preexisting health conditions are significantly more likely to die. But it is also because patients in a worse state of overall health could require a greater share of scarce resources to survive: “What might be a relatively short treatment course in healthier people could be longer and more resource-consuming in the case of older or more fragile patients.”

These guidelines apply even to patients who require intensive care for reasons other than the coronavirus, because they too make demands on the same scarce medical resources. As the document clarifies, “These criteria apply to all patients in intensive care, not just those infected with CoVid-19.”

My academic training is in political and moral philosophy. I have spent countless hours in fancy seminar rooms discussing abstract moral dilemmas like the so-called trolley problem. If a train is barreling toward five innocent people who are tied to the tracks, and I could divert it by pulling the lever, but at the cost of killing an innocent bystander, should I do it?

Part of the point of all those discussions was, supposedly, to help professionals make difficult moral choices in real-world circumstances. If you are an overworked nurse battling a novel disease under the most desperate circumstances, and you simply cannot treat everyone, however hard you try, whose life should you save?

Despite those years of theory, I must admit that I have no moral judgment to make about the extraordinary document published by those brave Italian doctors. I have not the first clue whether they are recommending the right or the wrong thing.

But if Italy is in an impossible position, the obligation facing the United States is very clear: To arrest the crisis before the impossible becomes necessary.

This means that our political leaders, the heads of business and private associations, and every one of us need to work together to accomplish two things: Radically expand the capacity of the country’s intensive-care units. And start engaging in extreme forms of social distancing.

Cancel everything. Now.

They do not escape my attention and I remain hopeful that there may actually be an overreaction on the part of the cautious, but I also fear that we may face the very situation described in the Atlantic article that Italy is facing where hospitals are so overwhelmed that decisions have to be made that would not normally be made.

And what about The National Review article at 12:10 above. They are right wingers and although they have grown disgusted with Trump, they remain right wingers. Are they merely playing politics by publishing that article, or expressing what they hold to be too potentially true to be silent about it?

But to say that I would "happily sacrifice thousands of American lives, if it meant the President would take a hit" is a calumny for which you should apologize, although you won't, being what you have become.

And for you to say that I am "openly rooting for the virus" is another shameful calumny.

I am only saying that we should at least be open to the possibility that we are up against something genuinely disastrous. I hope not, but it is possible.

Trump was wrong to try to make this potential disaster work to his political advantage even if it meant refusing even to consider the advice of those who were trying to warn him that it could be a huge catastrophe.

Maybe you need to look in the mirror and examine your own knee jerk defense of Trump no matter what he says or does, and whether it is YOU who never want to be wrong about anything, but in this case are possibly in serious error.

I sincerely hope not, for the sake of America and for the world. I sincerely hope the situation is not as dire as some are convinced it is. I know it infuriates you for me to say that, but it is true.

It matters because when people play politics in the middle of a crisis, we are all less safe.

We are less safe because public servants are distracted when they are dragged into politics.

We’re less safe because the American people have been recklessly scared into doubting the competence of their government to help keep them safe, secure and healthy.

And we’re less safe because when we’re focused on political gamesmanship, we’re not paying enough attention to the real issues. Said Trump: “I’d rate it a 10.”

He added: “I think we’ve done a great job, and it started with the fact that we kept a very highly-infected country, despite all of the, even the professionals saying it’s too early to do that. Story says that Nancy Pelosi was “caught trying to include abortion funding in bill to combat coronavirus.”

POLITIFACT: March 16, 2020
No, Pelosi wasn’t caught trying to add abortion funding into coronavirus bill

The U.S. House passed a measure that provides federal funds to people affected by the coronavirus. There’s no evidence Pelosi added or tried to add abortion funding to the bill.

The bill covers reimbursement laboratory costs for COVID-19 testing.

Some raised concerns that language was needed to specifically ensure abortion services weren’t eligible to receive funds. The language was amended by Democrats to limit reimbursements to COVID-19 expenses.

The U.S. House passed a measure to help mitigate the economic toll of the coronavirus by providing financial assistance to people affected by the pandemic. The legislation passed overwhelmingly (363-40 on March 14) and provides billions of dollars so Americans can get free tests and, in some cases, receive two weeks of paid leave.

As debate about the bill began, we noticed claims going around that said House Speaker Nancy Pelosi got "caught" trying to sneak abortion funding into the package.

This is false. There’s NO evidence that Pelosi was sneaking any funding toward abortion services in the bill.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi sought to include a potential way to guarantee federal funding for abortion into the coronavirus economic stimulus plan, according to multiple senior White House officials.

Speaking to the Daily Caller, those officials alleged that while negotiating the stimulus with U.S. Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin, Pelosi tried to lobby for “several” provisions that stalled bipartisan commitment to the effort. One was a mandate for up to $1 billion to reimburse laboratory claims, which White House officials say would set a precedent of health spending without protections outlined in the Hyde Amendment.

The UK only realised “in the last few days” that attempts to “mitigate” the impact of the coronavirus pandemic would not work, and that it needed to shift to a strategy to “suppress” the outbreak, according to a report by a team of experts who have been advising the government, BuzzFeed News reports.

The report found that the strategy previously being pursued by the government — dubbed “mitigation” and involving home isolation of suspect cases and their family members but not including restrictions on wider society — would “likely result in hundreds of thousands of deaths and health systems (most notably intensive care units) being overwhelmed many times over.”

@ F'nDaddy's 7:30 Bullshit. No doubt Ocasio=Cortez did hear that's what some people were trying to do. But as has been made clear, Democrats were never trying to sneak abortion rights into the bill.

But again:

According to Media Matters (a far more reputable journalist source than Daily Caller):
As Congress looked to pass a spending bill to deal with the coronavirus pandemic, right-wing media and abortion opponents took their cues from the White House and began a campaign to falsely blame the inclusion of abortion funding for GOP resistance to the bill.

According to NBC News, a spending bill spearheaded by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) was running into problems because “the White House believes provisions in the Pelosi bill that pertain to the Violence Against Women Act could open the door to federal funds for abortion. In response, the White House wants to add Hyde Amendment language to the bill.” The Hyde Amendment is a budgetary rider which prohibits federal funding from covering the costs of abortions, except in very limited circumstances. While the status of the spending bill is ever evolving, Politico reported that the “two sides resolved issues over federal funding of abortion in a separate bill that will also hit the floor.”

As journalists and abortion rights advocates explained, Republicans’ attacks on Pelosi and their move to add Hyde Amendment language is a disingenuous political tactic that is impeding much-needed health care access during a crisis:

Per White House official, here's what they OPPOSE in Pelosi bill:

-- 8% increase to federal match for Medicaid
-- 100% federal coverage under Medicaid 4 testing uninsured
-- Dem changes to Violence Against Women Act
-- Changes the WH says would provide $ for abortions

The White House gave right-wing outlet The Daily Caller an “exclusive,” providing the following talking points:

“A new mandatory funding stream that does not have Hyde protections would be unprecedented,” one White House official explained. “Under the guise of protecting people, Speaker Pelosi is working to make sure taxpayer dollars are spent covering abortion — which is not only backwards, but goes against historical norms.”

A second White House official referred to the provision as a “slush fund” and yet another questioned “what the Hyde Amendment and abortion have to do with protecting Americans from coronavirus?”

However, according to The American Independent:

There is absolutely no evidence that the funding the Democratic bill calls for would go toward abortion.

In fact, House Democrats filed what's called a “manager's amendment,” which makes clear that the funding can only be used for “COVID-19 diagnostic tests and related administration or service costs.”

“Claims reimbursed under this section would be limited to those for uninsured individuals not eligible for other COVID-19 testing and services assistance included in the bill,” reads a summary of the amendment from the House Rules Committee.

These facts didn’t stop right-wing media and abortion opponents from launching attacks on Pelosi and House Democrats or from picking up the White House talking points published by The Daily Caller.

At least you have stopped it was Obama's fault with the flu.....BWAAAAAAAA!!!!! Now its the BS about abortions.....which I know you don't give a fuck about!!!!!!

anonymous said...

Never let facts get in the way of bashing Pelosi.....idiots!!!!

The White House is trying to kill legislation to fund coronavirus testing by adding anti-abortion language to it.

The White House is objecting to a Democratic bill that would fund coronavirus testing kits for all Americans by demanding that unrelated anti-abortion language be added to the legislation.

House Democrats introduced the "Families First" bill on Thursday, which, along with providing funding for coronavirus test kits, would also call for mandatory paid sick leave for all workers, and ensure that poor Americans hurt by the economic impact of the virus would have access to food security.

But the White House is opposed to the bill, with Donald Trump saying that the bill is filled with "goodies" Democrats have wanted to pass for years.

And in an apparent effort to build opposition to the bill, Republicans, including first son Donald Trump Jr., are claiming the $1 billion in funding the Democratic bill would make available for coronavirus testing would actually be an "abortion slush fund."

"Multiple" unnamed White House officials spoke to the right-wing Daily Caller to falsely claim that, "Under the guise of protecting people, Speaker Pelosi is working to make sure taxpayer dollars are spent covering abortion."

They are calling on Democrats to add the Hyde Amendment — which prohibits federal funding from being used on abortions — to be added to the bill.

We buy the things we want and need, and in exchange give money to the people who produced those things, who in turn use that money to buy the things they want and need, and so on, forever.”

NYT
Tracking Every Coronavirus Case in the U.S.: Full Map

The number of known coronavirus cases in the United States continues to surge. As of Tuesday morning, at least 4,482 people in 49 states, plus Washington, D.C., and three U.S. territories, have tested positive for the coronavirus, according to a New York Times database, and at least 86 patients with the virus have died.

Note: The map shows the known locations of coronavirus cases by county. Circles are sized by the number of people there who have tested positive, which may differ from where they contracted the illness. Some people who traveled overseas were taken for treatment in California, Nebraska and Texas. Puerto Rico and the other U.S. territories are not shown. Sources: State and local health agencies, hospitals, C.D.C. Data as of 8:31 a.m. E.T., Mar. 17.

Several hundred new cases are now being identified each day, including about 700 on both Saturday and Sunday, and the pace of diagnosis is expected to quicken as the virus spreads and testing becomes more widely available. More state and private labs have started running tests for the coronavirus in recent days, increasing the capacity to identify new patients after weeks of delays and test kit shortages.

The outbreak looks vastly different today than it did just a couple of weeks ago. At the start of March, 70 cases had been reported in the United States, most of them tied to overseas travel. Since then, new cases have poured in, including more than 200 announced on Monday in New York State alone. More than 2,200 cases have been announced nationwide since Friday morning, and the virus is now spreading in parts of the country where it had not been identified as recently as a week ago.

More than half of the known cases are in Washington State, California and New York. But by Monday, almost 2,000 other cases had been reported across the country, including in every state but West Virginia. Since Friday, officials in the United States Virgin Islands, Guam and Puerto Rico have announced the first cases in those U.S. territories.

Across the country, everyday life continued to change in drastic, abrupt ways. Residents of several counties in Northern California were told to shelter at home for three weeks.

In Illinois, Michigan and other states, restaurants were ordered to only offer takeout and delivery. Governors called off school for weeks at a time, sometimes warning that class might not resume this academic year.

The New York Times is engaged in a comprehensive effort to track details about every confirmed case in the United States, collecting information from federal, state and local officials around the clock. The numbers in this article are being updated several times a day based on the latest information our journalists are gathering from around the country.

The number of patients treated in the United States remains a small fraction of those with the virus overseas, where thousands of people have died and tens of thousands have been infected.

Washington State has been hit hard.
As about 100 new patients have been identified each recent day in Washington State, officials there have scrambled to impose restrictions on public gatherings and slow the transmission rate.

With hospitals stretched thin, officials in King County, which includes Seattle, announced the acquisition of a motel to use as an isolation area. They also purchased a “fully self-contained tent, with flooring and heat” to hold more people with the illness. And with more than 40 deaths reported in the state, officials banned gatherings of more than 50 people and ordered the closure of theaters, fitness clubs and bars.

“We are at a critical moment in this crisis,” the King County executive, Dow Constantine, said in a statement. He added: "Go to work if you must. But hunker down if you are able. Postpone anything you can. Treat the next two weeks as a period of self-quarantine, to protect yourself and the lives and health of your loved ones and the entire community.”

Republicans Remain STUPIDLY Skeptical of Coronavirus

March 17, 2020 at 11:21 am EDT By Taegan Goddard 26 Comments

Washington Post:
“Inside the Republican Party and the conservative movement that Trump commands, there is now a deep divide as the nation confronts the coronavirus. For weeks, many on the right, including Trump, STUPIDLY minimized the virus, if they considered it at all. Even in recent days, as much of the world shuts down to try to stop its spread, some Republicans STUPIDLY mocked what they saw as a media-generated frenzy.

“Their reaction reflected how the American right has STUPIDLY evolved under Trump, moving from a bloc of small-government advocates to a grievance coalition highly AND STUPIDLY skeptical of government, science, the news and federal warnings.

“Their conspiratorial unrest is particularly acute within right-wing media, where Fox Business removed a prime-time anchor for STUPIDLY casting the coronavirus as ‘another attempt to impeach the president.’ Other right-wing personalities STUPIDLY continue to call the coronavirus a ‘hoax’ or falsely AND STUPIDLY blame George Soros, the billionaire investor and liberal donor, for causing it.

“But conservatives and Republicans now face an undeniable reality as the pandemic’s death count here and abroad climbs — and the worldwide reach of the coronavirus defies the bounds of political debate.”

OH DEAR. THESE DEPLORABLE STUPIDS ARE NOW HAVING TO FACE REALITY.
EVEN HERE AT COLDHEARTED LACK OF TRUTH.

two things pederast -

first, i could not care less what some preening asshat from the bezos newsletter thinks.

second, let us know when this situation even begins to come close to 0linsky's H1N1 high score. so far we aren't even close. what i DO know is that the media has been evil and criminally irresponsible with their hysteria driven reporting.

all in yet another attempt to destroy this president.

The media are scumbags sometimes.

Trump: We have mobile hospitals ready to deploy where they are needed. Obvious they won't be deployed in places like West Virginia where they have reported a case yet.

Reporter: Is that a reporting issue?

This kind of crap is the reason people hate the media.

Ch UN truth speaks here in normal print concerning his visit to a Seattle restaurant.
James speaks in bold.

CHTRUTH: We've had a chance to talk to some of the [Seattle] vendors, bar owners, and other workers... and I sort of expected something different. Even though local businesses are losing business and seem concerned with their financial fate, there seems to be an almost universal belief that the coronavirus is nothing short of the black plague.

JAMES: Well now, you see, Ch, those people pay attention to science and reliable news sources that are more objective than the right wing radio and print propaganda that you favor.

CHTRUTH: You might think that a business owner or employee might be upset that their livelihood is in jeopardy due to what is still less than a hundred deaths in the US (over about a 10 week period), but that really isn't the case. Many people (especially the millennials that we are running into) are "really" convinced that this is way more contagious and way more deadly than anything we have ever seen.

JAMES: Again, they surely are upset, Ch, but they "really" are convinced that there are strongly credible medical and scientific reasons for thinking that disasters are now facing us.

CHTRUTH: Time will tell how back[sic bad] the coronavirus will be, but there isn't any tangible evidence that it is that much more contagious or that we will see some sort of death rate measured in large percentages. But of course, in 2020 the reality isn't in what we can prove, but it is in what spin we can spread.

JAMES: As tangible evidence continues to pile up, it is becoming more and more obvious who has been spreading the spin.

And again, I sincerely wish you could be right, but I FEAR that people who are far more objective than you are remotely capable of being are the ones who are right about this, and this will continue to prove true as this dreadful situation keeps on developing.

Trump Bragged About Cutting Pandemic Team In 2018
March 17, 2020 at 8:04 am EDT By Taegan Goddard 5 Comments
A video has emerged of Donald Trump talking about cutting the US pandemic response team in 2018 – days after claiming that he knew nothing about the disbanded White House unit, the Independent reports.

This was a lie. Trump never cut the Pandemic team. He reorganized it intro the bio defense group since their expertise overlapped. If you actually bother to do real research you would have known that instead of going with what sounds bad for Trump. That's gutter-sniping.

Lying for political reasons.

This was a lie. Trump never cut the Pandemic team.

There are many sources who say bullshit to that cramps;;;;;

https://news.yahoo.com/video-emerges-showing-trump-talking-195900317.html

A video has emerged of Donald Trump talking about cutting the US pandemic response team in 2018 – days after claiming that he knew nothing about the disbanded White House unit.

Mr Trump said of the pandemic team that “some of the people we’ve cut they haven’t been used for many, many years and if we ever need them we can get them very quickly and rather then spending the money”.

“I’m a business person, I don’t like having thousands of people around when you don’t need them,” he added.

The US president has come under fire in recent days for his decision to disband the National Security Council directorate at the White House responsible for planning the US’s preparedness for future pandemics.

The unit had been established by the previous White House administration in 2014 after the outbreak of Ebola.

A former director of the unit, Dr Beth Cameron, used an op-ed in The Washington Post to say that “it is clear that eliminating the office has contributed to the federal government’s sluggish domestic response".

In a press conference on Friday, Mr Trump denied knowing anything about the cuts in 2018 when questioned by Yamiche Alcindor, a reporter for PBS.

After denying that his administration was responsible for any failures in the roll-out of American coronavirus testing, Alcindor had asked Mr Trump: “You said that you don’t take responsibility, but you did disband the White House pandemic office, and the officials that were working in that office left this administration abruptly. So what responsibility do you take to that?”

No, the White House didn’t ‘dissolve’ its pandemic response office. I was there.

President Trump gets his share of criticism — some warranted, much not. But recently the president’s critics have chosen curious ground to question his response to the coronavirus outbreak since it began spreading from Wuhan, China, in December.
It has been alleged by multiple officials of the Obama administration, including in The Post, that the president and his then-national security adviser, John Bolton, “dissolved the office” at the White House in charge of pandemic preparedness. Because I led the very directorate assigned that mission, the counterproliferation and biodefense office, for a year and then handed it off to another official who still holds the post, I know the charge is specious.

@AmbJohnBolton

Claims that streamlining NSC structures impaired our nation's bio defense are false. Global health remained a top NSC priority, and its expert team was critical to effectively handling the 2018-19 Africa Ebola crisis. The angry Left just can't stop attacking, even in a crisis.
