Was this a fluke or was the ACC overrated?
You have to start off with the fact that the two best teams in the ACC happened to come up against the two best teams in college football in the semifinals of the college football playoffs. Nobody other than Alabama is probably going to beat Ohio State and nobody other than Ohio State is probably going to beat Alabama. Then you had the poor Tar Heels of North Carolina who had to face the angry Texas A&M team (whom thought they deserved a spot in the final four) and finished rated fifth in the nation.
But for the ACC (as powerful as they seemed this year) to not win a single bowl game? That being said, with the season the way it was, there simply wasn't as many marque intra-conference games as in previous years. Neither Clemson or Notre Dame beat anyone of significance outside of the ACC. In fact, some conferences like the Big 10 (which went 3-1 in bowl games so far) didn't play outside of the conference. Hard to know how good a conference is on a national scale when they don't play outside of the conference.
Meanwhile the Big 12 went undefeated, with the signature victory being number six Oklahoma beating number seven Florida 55-20 after Florida gave Alabama a run for their money in SEC championship. Iowa State also manhandled Oregon in another Big 12 bowl win over a ranked team. Of course due to the amount of cancellations and teams opting out, only having four games allows a better chance to remain undefeated.

Clemson was definitely overrated.
This year was probably the fewest games I have ever watched
Fewer games gave the advantage.
I watched both playoff games and again I would not wager any money on either team.
