Most pundits are picking the Democrats in a close call...
I used to look forward to election seasons. All of the polling, analysis, opinions, and general stories. It was like the Super Bowl or Stanley Cup of politics. But lately it's become more of a WWE all star wrestling fake pile of anger and hate. You cannot seem to find two people willing to simply discuss the ins and outs of things, without it falling into the cesspool of insults and attacks. This appears to hold doubly true of special election.
![]() |
Two months ago David Perdue received 88,098 more votes than Jon Ossoff Republicans received 312,000 more votes in the special election than Democrats |
The reality is that runoffs or special elections used to be sort afterthoughts, with not that many people paying attention. But lately it's been about larges sums of money coming from everywhere "other" than the state where the election is actually being held, and from people "other" than those who are voting. This year, both Democratic candidate raised over $100 million and the overwhelming percentage of it is from outstate. There was more money raised from California than from Georgia.
This provides more money than can be used in general and much of it is spent on little more than attack ads on both sides. Generally the candidates in these special elections are placed under a microscope and every detail of their lives are put out there for public fodder. Think back to the Alabama race, where a man who had spent most of his life in politics was suddenly having to account for allegations of sexual misconduct that was literally decades old (and clearly missing key evidence and details). He was turned into a monster and lost what was thought to be a sure thing.
In 2021, the mood of the country is such that nothing less than scorched earth will do for many. Leave no stone unturned and no allegation (regardless of facts) to be left untold. Accuse people of domestic abuse, white supremacy, or just being too Christian for that matter. But make sure everyone understands that your opponent is a monster and you are willing to spend a hundred million to make sure that point is made.
I don't know who is going to win. To suggest polling means anything these days is to suggest that we have not learned any lessons. To look at the numbers on the ground is to make an educated guess that many of us simply don't have the spark or drive to do right now. If early and mail in voting is any indication, turn out will be much higher than other special elections, but not as high as the 2020 general. Who that benefits will be a mystery until the votes are counted...
Which will probably be done by memorial day... if we are lucky.

not me. i'm picking the democrats in an open and brazen STEAL, with both middle fingers proudly raised to the rest of us, knowing full well that there's nothing that anyone WILL do about it.
this is our politics now. full-on banana republic, third world behavior.
for evermore.
Agreed. Trump voters are fed up with being called racist Nazis just for wearing a red hat.
We do not want the rest of the country to look like California or NYC. But the left just doesn't give a damn.
not me.

Hoping for Victory But Bracing for Defeat In Georgia
6:37 am EST
Politico:
“Biden’s advisers are privately skeptical about Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock’s chances, Democrats say. And though confidants say that the incoming team’s core priorities for that 100-day agenda will remain the same regardless of the outcome — the pandemic, the recession, climate change and racial inequality — they concede that the scale of their plans could change dramatically come Tuesday evening…
“Regardless of the outcome, Biden’s top legislative priority will be a stimulus package aimed at distributing funds for states to vaccinate Americans, among other Covid-related priorities.
… Items that stand a chance of passage under a Democratic Senate, such as an ambitious government ethics reform package previously crafted by House Democrats, will go nowhere if the Senate is still run by Sen. Mitch McConnell.”
Axios: Nearly $500 million spent on ads for Georgia Senate races.
_______________
Gee, if the Dems have stolen this election, why are Biden's advisers "privately skeptical" about their chances of winning?
and the steal remains in full swing in NY-22. you don't live in the district? no problem! vote wherever the fuck you want because we'll count it! :
While Anthony Brindisi and Claudia Tenney’s former congressional colleagues get to work in Washington, their attorneys were back meeting with a State Supreme Court Justice working to figure out which candidate will return to his or her old job.
At least 800 uncounted ballots, yet to be ruled on, drown out Tenney’s current lead of 29 votes.
State Supreme Court Justice Scott DelConte, of Oswego, reviewed each of the ballots, one by one, county by county, asking for each side to argue whether they should count.
With the campaigns’ attorneys, the judge has frequently revisited the question if affidavit ballots cast by eligible voters in the wrong polling place should count.

Gee, if the Dems have stolen this election, why are Biden's advisers "privately skeptical" about their chances of winning?
Gee, what if the Democrats believed that they stole the November election and will not get away with it a second time?
Exchange of the Day
9:40 am
Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger (R) was asked by Sandra Smith on Fox News whether he’s worried “about the precedent” set by releasing the recording of his call with President Trump over the weekend:
SMITH:
Why put into jeopardy our country by leaking a phone call of that nature?
RAFFENSPERGER:
I don’t understand how truth would ever jeopardize the country.
and the steal remains in full swing in NY-22.
The steal remains in your demented, sick head rat......BWAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!
Quote of the Day
9:27 am
“I don’t do rallies for other people. I do them for me.”
— President Trump, quoted by the Associated Press, at a rally supposedly for the two Republican Senate candidates in Georgia.
OCCASIONALLY HE DOES TELL THE TRUTH.
Thousands of Atlanta Mail Ballots at Risk
6:39 am
NBC News:
“According to the most recent USPS filings in federal court, the agency was processing just 76% of ballots on-time, as of Dec. 21, in their Atlanta metro region, which covers most of the northern – and most populated – half of the Peach State.
“That means some ballots mailed by Georgia voters 3-5 days before this week’s run-off elections – and even some ballots mailed prior to New Year’s — may not make it to elections offices before the state’s Jan. 5 deadline for the votes to count.”
How McConnell Is Handling Trump’s Election Challenge
6:42 am
“Mitch McConnell explicitly warned Senate Republicans not to challenge Joe Biden’s presidential win. But now that a dozen of his members are going there, the GOP leader is taking his thumb off the scale,” Politico reports.
“Senators and aides say he is not actively whipping his members to side against Sens. Josh Hawley (R-MO) and Ted Cruz (R-TX), who are leading the electoral objections in the Senate. Instead, he’s offering guidance when it’s sought, fielding calls from at least half the Senate GOP conference.”
Trump’s Election Challenge Divides 2024 Field
6:45 am
“While Missouri Sen. Josh Hawley and Texas Sen. Ted Cruz are setting themselves up as the chief spokesmen for challenging certification of the Electoral College vote, aligning themselves with President Donald Trump, Arkansas Sen. Tom Cotton and Nebraska Sen. Ben Sasse are staking out the opposite turf. Other Republicans, like Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott and Vice President Mike Pence, are playing it safe and saying little,” Politico reports.
“The debate underscores how fealty to Trump — who might run again himself in 2024 — has emerged as the defining battle line in the fight over the Republican Party’s future. While past primaries have revolved around hot-button issues like health care or immigration, the forthcoming contest is being propelled, so far, by a single question: How loyal should one be to Trump?”
A Tense, Tectonic 48 Hours
8:06 am
“The next two days look to be the most tumultuous and telling of the wild, never-ending 2020 election,” Axios reports.
“Twin runoffs in Georgia today determine control of the U.S. Senate. And perhaps half or more of the Republicans in Congress will cast an unprecedented number of votes to invalidate President-elect Biden’s clear win, as the House and Senate meet to certify the Electoral College votes.
“It’s insane and revealing that those joining the protest — more than 100 House members (and perhaps 140+), plus 13 senators — could amount to more than half of Capitol Hill’s Republicans. This shows the political strength Trump could maintain in exile, tormenting Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell and other establishment Republicans.”

I predict he will fade... fade... fade...
New Woes for the Unemployed
8:02 am
“People who collected unemployment will receive smaller — or nonexistent — tax refunds this coming year because of a tax law quirk that counts unemployment as taxable income,” Axios reports.
“Tens of millions of Americans who arguably need the refund the most will wind up financially short for yet another year.”

Thanks, Republicans!
Georgia Democrats Close with Populist Pitch
8:45 am
NBC News:
“Their calibrated closing arguments centered on a pocketbook pitch to approve $2,000 stimulus payments to Americans, a popular issue backed by Democrats and President Trump but opposed by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky. In the days between Christmas and New Year’s Day, McConnell allowed an effort approve the checks die in Congress."
YEP. Thanks, Republicans!
How Republicans Plan to Challenge the Electoral Vote
8:57 am
Sen. Ted Cruz and about nine or 10 other senators joined Reps. Mo Brooks (R-AL), Jim Jordan (R-OH) and Andy Biggs (R-AZ) on a 50-minute phone call to discuss their plans to challenge the Electoral College vote, Politico reports.
While the plans are not set in stone, here’s what they discussed:
The senators appeared to agree to object to three or four state certifications, even though House members are pushing for six: Arizona, Georgia, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin and Nevada.
The lawmakers are primarily focusing their objections on three states: Arizona, Georgia, and Pennsylvania.
The GOP lawmakers did not discuss how long they wanted to draw out the objection process, but a source says the senators weren’t excited about debating past midnight.
Most interesting: Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) was not on the phone call, with a source describing him as a “wild card” in this process.
Georgia Races Remain Toss Ups
8:51 am
Larry Sabato’s Crystal Ball:
“With Election Day voting underway in the crucial Senate runoffs in Georgia, we continue to see both races as Toss-ups. But after an early-voting period where Democrats may have performed better than they did in the lead-up to the November election, Republicans may need to follow suit with an impressive day-of-election performance to defend Sens. David Perdue (R-GA) and Kelly Loeffler (R-GA) against challengers Jon Ossoff (D) and Raphael Warnock (D), respectively.”
Vice President-elect Kamala Harris apparently appropriated an anecdote first told by civil rights icon Martin Luther King Jr. when she was interviewed by Elle Magazine for a feature that was published in October, at the height of the 2020 presidential election campaign.
Harris has repeatedly boasted of her parents’ involvement in the civil rights movement of the 1960s. In the Elle interview, she recalled accompanying them to marches as a toddler in a stroller.
“Senator Kamala Harris started her life’s work young,” writer Ashley C. Ford led off the piece. “She laughs from her gut, the way you would with family, as she remembers being wheeled through an Oakland, California, civil rights march in a stroller with no straps with her parents and her uncle. At some point, she fell from the stroller … and the adults, caught up in the rapture of protest, just kept on marching. By the time they noticed little Kamala was gone and doubled back, she was understandably upset.”
“My mother tells the story about how I’m fussing,” Harris told the magazine. “And she’s like, ‘Baby, what do you want? What do you need?’ And I just looked at her and I said, ‘Fweedom.’”
Awww.
The problem is that Harris’ story bears a striking resemblance to one told by King in a 1965 interview published in Playboy. Said King:
I will never forget a moment in Birmingham when a White policeman accosted a little Negro girl, seven or eight years old, who was walking in a demonstration with her mother,” King said at the time. “‘What do you want?’ the policeman asked her gruffly, and the little girl looked at him straight in the eye and answered, ‘Fee-dom.’ She couldn’t even pronounce it, but she knew. It was beautiful! Many times when I have been in sorely trying situations, the memory of that little one has come into my mind, and has buoyed me.

Let Them Reveal Themselves
9:59 am
Michael Gerson:
“We are witnessing what happens when treacherous politicians run in packs. A solitary betrayal of the constitutional order by a member of Congress is a source of shame and, perhaps, a cause for expulsion. When 100 and more Republicans join hands and betray the constitutional order, it is a populist cause. They gain the confidence, even the thrill, of shared disloyalty. But their oath of office — in every single case — has been dishonored. They have demonstrated their unfitness for office and called their own patriotism into question.
“So maybe it is for the best that they stand up and be counted.
Maybe it is best for Americans to know who will ‘support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic’ — and who will not.
By all means, let’s engrave their names into a marble slab — a roll call of those who failed the most important test of self-government in our lifetimes.
There are a lot of monuments honoring bravery.
Let’s have one dedicated to abject cowardice.”
____
George Will:
“On Wednesday, the members of the Hawley-Cruz cohort will violate the oath of office in which they swore to defend the Constitution from enemies ‘foreign and domestic.’ They are its most dangerous domestic enemies.”
So history will judge.

GOP Pollster Sounds Alarms for Republicans
10:18 am
GOP pollster and strategist Frank Luntz told CNBC that he believes Democrats hold the upper hand in Tuesday’s Georgia Senate runoff elections, warning of disappointment for Republicans in those pivotal races and in Wednesday’s upcoming Electoral College presidential confirmation vote on Capitol Hill.
Said Luntz:
“There is a greater divide in the Republican party than there is in the Democratic party. The party is in the process of tearing itself apart and you don’t do that now, when you’re this close to the most important Senate election, literally, in a lifetime. Democrats are unified, Republicans are not and that’s what gives them the advantage.
He added:
“I think the next 48 hours are going to be among the worst for the GOP.”

GRASSLEY SAYS PENCE WILL SKIP ELECTORAL VOTE CERTIFICATION
10:15 am
Sen. Charles Grassley (R-IA), the Senate president pro tempore, says he and not Vice President Mike Pence will preside over the certification of Electoral College votes, since “we don’t expect him to be there,” Roll Call reports.
Grassley also said he will listen to debate and that “it would be really wrong for me to say I have my mind made up.”

Lawmakers Call for Criminal Probe Into Trump’s Phone Call
10:11 am
Reps. Ted Lieu (D-CA) and Kathleen Rice (D-NY) called on FBI Director Christopher Wray to open a criminal probe into President Trump after the release of a recording of his Saturday call demanding Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger (R) “find” additional votes for him, The Hill reports.

Atlanta Journal Constitution:
Experts say Trump may have broken law trying to overturn Georgia election.
So now the Reverend trusts GOP pollsters over Biden advisors?
Nobody has any real clue here. The one thing I wills say is that people are sort of treating this like it's a replay of the November races (but treating it as if the November results were 50/50).
Ossoff and Warnock both have to overcome fairly significant deficits from the November race. From what I understand, the early voting totals are believed to be more favorable to the Democrats. But the question is whether they have improved by the 100K that they need to, in order to draw even coming into the election day vote?
Btw... Trafalgar Group came out with new polls today that erased the leads that they had previously given to Ossoff and Warnock. They show Perdue Ossoff tied and Loeffler ahead of Warnock. RCP now shows both races within 0.5% of each other.
But 538 shows a ton of "other" polls and almost all of them give Ossoff and Warnock a lead, some by very large margins.

Pence’s Office Denies Report He Won’t Preside Tomorrow
10:34 am
Vice President Mike Pence’s office told NBC News that he is still expected to preside tomorrow over the certification of the Electoral College vote, contrary to what Sen. Charles Grassley (R-IA) told reporters.

President Trump’s Schedule
10:53 am
CNN notes President Trump’s official schedule has no events listed, but adds this blurb: “President Trump will work from early in the morning until late in the evening. He will make many calls and have many meetings.”
The Devil Goes Back to Georgia
10:47 am
Tim Miller:
“Trump’s rambling, incoherent performance was marked by what seemed to be a case of TDS—Testosterone Deficiency Syndrome—so bad that it caused even the maskless cult members who packed into the Dalton, Georgia event site to become bored by the show.
“But Trump’s unintelligibility and TDS do not take away from the gravity of the undertaking. The rally was ostensibly in support of Kelly Loeffler and David Perdue’s Senate run-off campaigns, but in reality it was an opportunity for the president to ensure that said senators—and any others who dare cross him, like Mike Lee, whom he name-checked more than once—see that their only path forward is by participating in his effort to overturn the election.”
IOW, PARTICIPATE IN THIS STUPIDITY -- OR ELSE!
Trump began with a big lie:
I HAD OVERWHELMINGLY MORE PEOPLE AT MY INAUGURATION THAN OBAMA!
And ends with an even bigger lie:
I OVERWHELMINGLY WON THE ELECTION!
So now the Reverend trusts GOP pollsters over Biden advisors?
Nobody has any real clue here.
ESPECIALLY YOU, LIL SCHITTY!!!!!! Funny you claim warnock has a lot to overcome deficits in his race against the bitch who barely eked out a primary win against the field!!!! Sad your bias can't recognize the bullshit you are flinging in the name of the treasonous trump and GOP!!!!
Trump Won’t Be Allowed Into Scotland
January 5, 2021 at 11:05 am EST By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment
Nicola Sturgeon, the first minister of Scotland, said President Trump will not be allowed to visit the country to play golf during Joe Biden’s inauguration, as reports indicated he was planning, the Independent reports.
Given the global pandemic, Sturgeon stressed it is currently illegal to travel in or out of the country without a valid reason: “Coming to play golf is not what I would consider to be an essential purpose.”
The only person who likes Trump is Vladimir Putin!
Project Veritas on Monday night released undercover video of a Central OAC Exec admitting her organization registers thousands of homeless people to vote at the same address in Fulton County.
Georgia law requires a person to vote where they live and permitting someone to use a false statement on voter registration is illegal and punishable by up to 10 years in prison.
Veritas released the video the night before the twin senate runoff where the stakes couldn’t be higher.
[...]
“So the majority of the people we serve don’t have an address so we allow them to use our address if they register to vote and to get GA state ID,” Kimberly Parker, the Executive Director for Central Outreach and Advocacy Center said. “We do allow them to use 201 Washington Street (Atlanta, GA).”
“Can’t even begin to tell you how many people have that address on their ID” “Board members got wind…thought we’re doing things not on the up and up…”

Trump Steps Up Pressure on Pence
11:19 am
President Trump tweets:
“The Vice President has the power to reject fraudulently chosen electors.”
I think she will prosecute him after inauguration day.
Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis said in a statement Monday that the call was "disturbing," and she left the door open to an investigation.
"It is my understanding from news reports that a member of the State Election Board has requested that the Secretary's elections division investigate the call, after which the board can refer the case to my office and the state attorney general," Willis said, adding: "Anyone who commits a felony violation of Georgia law in my jurisdiction will be held accountable. Once the investigation is complete, this matter, like all matters, will be handled by our office based on the facts and the law."
is fani willis another bought and paid for soros DA?
LOL. i just looked her up.
a most unimpressive individual. and stupid enough to see a crime where none exists because 'orange man bad.'
Pence's role is to open the envelopes and read the results of the state elections.
He's a real Republican, not a traitor.
Trump will Twitter tirade!
We probably won't know the outcome until Thursday.
On January 20th they will be sworn in.
Project Veritas on Monday night released undercover

hay alky, did Ben Sasse travel to GA to get out the vote for warnock and jagoff today?
LOL.
Pee-Air Defecto perhaps?
Willis said in a pre-election interview with local NBC affiliate 11Alive.
“I believe he’ll be arrested for it and ultimately prosecuted before the year is out,” she added, calling his conduct “a criminal offense.”
Willis, an alumna of Howard University and Emory Law School, worked under Howard as an assistant district attorney for 16 years where she led the prosecution of 12 Atlanta Public School teachers accused of illegally correcting their students’ answers on standardized tests, resulting in 11 being convicted of racketeering.
She left the office in 2018 when she opened a private practice law firm specializing in criminal defense, business, and corporate litigation, civil forfeiture and family law.
Curious thing about Willis. She won't tell anyone who her husband is. Try to look him up. You can't find anything. Some are asking why.

I think that it's foolish to project the winners today.
I wonder if the lame duck President damaged the Republicans candidates because he's going crazy. In November the voters voted split ticket.
This might be a referendum on the lame duck President.
But we won't know until tomorrow evening

When does Biden deliver the $2,000 ($4,000 married)
my guess is never. what would be his incentive to do so?
Jimmy's son was arrested.
WASHINGTON—The leader of the far-right Proud Boys was arrested on Monday in Washington, D.C., and charged in connection with unrest that followed pro-Trump protests in the nation’s capital last month.
Metropolitan Police arrested Enrique Tarrio, 36 years old, and charged him with destruction of property related to the burning of a Black Lives Matter banner belonging to a historic Black church, a police spokesman said. Police also charged him with possession of what they said were two “high-capacity firearm magazines.”
Biden will deliver the $2,000 ($4,000 married) before February 1st, if the Democrats win today.
GOP Senator Calls Decision on Electoral Vote ‘Brutal’
12:22
Sen. Kevin Cramer (R-ND) said that his decision to back the Electoral College when Congress counts the vote was “brutal,” The Hill reports.
Said Cramer:
“It was brutal, to be honest.
But at the end of the day, there are two things.
One is my conscience is captive to God,
and my oath is to the Constitution of the United States.”
_________
Only under a Trump presidency would allegiance to simple honor, decency, truth, dignity, and honesty become brutally difficult.
"my guess is never. what would be his incentive to do so?"
To show he is a leader and working for the little guy, as promised.
God knows his support of The New Green Deal will cost the Little Guy a boat load of income for higher food and energy prices.
Biden can't negotiate a win, unless he holds all the cards in the deck.

Cotton Explains Why the Electoral Vote Must Stand
12:30 pm
Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR) explained in the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette his decision to ratify the Electoral College vote tomorrow.
“First, Congress would take away the power to choose the president from the people and place it in the hands of whichever party controls Congress. This action essentially would end our tradition of democratic presidential elections, empowering politicians and party bosses in Washington.
“Second, Congress would imperil the electoral college, which gives small states like Arkansas a voice in presidential elections. Democrats have long complained about Republican candidates winning the electoral college and thus the presidency without a majority of the popular vote. If Congress becomes a new battleground for determining the results of the electoral college, a future Democratic majority could deny the presidency to a Republican president-elect who didn’t receive a majority of the popular vote.”
