Just look at the headlines and articles at pol wire today. Wow, is Trumpism in trouble.

JUST A FEW EXAMPLES. THERE ARE MANY MORE.

Banks Cut Ties with Trump
8:44 am
New York Times: “Deutsche Bank, which has been Mr. Trump’s primary lender for two decades, has decided not to do business with Mr. Trump or his company in the future. Mr. Trump currently owes Deutsche Bank more than $300 million, which is due in the next few years.

“The bank has concluded that, short of forgiving the debt, it has no way to extricate itself from the Trump relationship before the loans come due.

“Another longtime financial partner of the Trumps, Signature Bank, also is cutting ties.”

Trump’s Disastrous End to His Shocking Presidency
8:17 am
“President Trump is leaving America in a vortex of violence, sickness and death and more internally estranged than it has been for 150 years,” CNN reports.

“The disorientating end to his shocking term has the nation reeling from a Washington insurrection. The FBI warned Monday of armed protests by pro-Trump thugs in 50 states, which raise the awful prospect of a domestic insurgency. Health officials fear 5,000 Americans could soon be dying every day from the pandemic Trump ignored. Hospitals are swamped and medical workers are shattered amid a faltering rollout of the vaccine supposed to end the crisis.”

(He couldn't even get the rollout set up right.)

“It took 200 years for the country to rack up its first two presidential impeachments. Trump’s malfeasance has led the country down that awful, divisive path twice in just more than a year.”

Sheldon Adelson Is Dead
8:11 am
Billionaire Republican megadonor Sheldon Adelson has died, the Las Vegas Review Journal reports.

GOP Braces for Impeachment Split
8:05 am
“House Republicans are bracing for between ten and 20 of their GOP colleagues to vote to impeach Donald Trump — a hugely embarrassing rebuke for the president at the end of his tumultuous term,” Punchbowl News reports.

“The vote is ‘super fluid,’ a Republican insider told us. The leadership isn’t keeping a formal whip count, but whatever the number is, it’s infinitely greater than the zero Republicans that voted for Trump’s impeachment in 2019, and it demonstrates the serious rift inside the party.”

On Sunday’s Reliable Sources, Oliver Darcy demanded conservative news sources be “held accountable,” clearly suggesting that they must be squelched, an expansion of the so-called “cancel culture” imposed with glee by outlets such as Twitter and Facebook on conservatives and even President Trump.

He cited Fox News and “TV providers that beam OAN and Newsmax into homes, or Rush Limbaugh. There are a lot of people profiting off of lies and conspiracy theories.”

He insisted, “this informational environment” must be “cleaned up.”

“The story this week was bringing our informational crisis to the forefront. It’s a national emergency. You have corporations and people that are profiting off lies and conspiracy theories, whether that’s big tech, whether that’s Fox News, whether that’s TV providers that beam OAN and Newsmax into homes, or Rush Limbaugh. There are a lot of people profiting off of lies and conspiracy theories, and I don’t really see how things get better, how we move on as a country until this informational environment is cleaned up.”

After host Brian Stelter complained that “Fox News, the Murdochs, they are still enabling this stuff because they’re obsessing over big tech bias, that’s what they call it, and trying to ignore the riot,” Darcy demanded:

“Where are they? They need to be held accountable as well. We were talking a lot about people like Josh Hawley and Ted Cruz. Rupert Murdoch, Lachlan Murdoch, they need to be held accountable for the lies that they have peddled to this country, not only in the past two months about the election either, but in the past, you know, several years that have really brought this to the forefront.”

MARC LEVY, THOMAS BEAUMONT and NICHOLAS RICCARDI
Tue, January 12, 2021, 12:14 AM EST
HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — In the 36 hours after last week’s deadly insurrection at the U.S. Capitol, 112 Republicans reached out to the election office in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, to change their party registration. Ethan Demme was one of them.

“Ever since they started denying the election result, I kind of knew it was heading this way," said Demme, who is the county's former Republican Party chairman and has opposed President Donald Trump and is now an independent. "If they kept going, I knew there’s no way I can keep going. But if you’ve been a Republican all your life, it’s hard to jump out of a big boat and into a little boat.”

Officials are seeing similar scenes unfold elsewhere.

In Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, 192 people have changed their party registration since the Jan. 6 riot. Only 13 switched to the GOP — the other 179 changed to Democrat, independent or a third party, according to Bethany Salzarulo, the director of the bureau of elections.

In my business (ERP software) keeping client tenants up on their servers is priority number one. I can assure you that AWS removing Parler from their servers has made people nervous. If they can do it to Parler (for little or no good reason other than they don't like them) then they can do it to pretty much anyone.

That IS the reality. AWS made that the reality.

How many businesses can afford to be taken off line or have their own business software taken off line with 30 hours notice. They now have to consider the possibility that somehow they get on the wrong side of the "cancel culture" and find themselves out. Or perhaps one of the software company that they use gets "cancelled" over something political and that provider loses their access to their servers taking all their clients down with them.

It not even a slippery slope. The world is already sliding and something is going to have to give at some point. It's naïve to believe that this is limited to Parler or that somehow it just stops with them. They have gotten a taste of having the power to destroy a thriving business over politics. Like a vampire tasting blood, do you think they can stop?

The software world has gone back and forth between hosting on-premise servers with their own IT and having their software hosted with outside servers and IT.

For years, mainframes were the way to go. Everyone was logging in remotely to a mainframe. Then for a couple of decades or more, people went to on-premise servers. Hosting their own software and keeping their own IT.

Now we are back to people wanting to be "in the cloud" - which is actually not much different in scope than the original mainframe servers that hosted multiple people on each machine.

This might remind people that being "in the cloud" rather than hosting your own software ultimately puts your ENTIRE business at the mercy of your cloud hosting service. Now they no longer have to just worry that that service might be unreliable or even just fail all-together. Now it's possible that that cloud hosting service could just decide to take you down with little pretense and little warning.

The Right-Wing Media Decoupling
6:57 am
“Following the Capitol siege, the right-wing media landscape is beginning to split between entities that want to double down on pro-Trump rhetoric and those that want to stick with the establishment,” Axios reports.

“The future of the Republican Party, in part, hangs on whether fringe conservative media or traditional conservative commentary will dominate with audiences.”

Anonymous said...

let the doxxing begin:

Operating on little sleep, @donk_enby began the work of archiving all of Parler’s posts, ultimately capturing around 99.9 percent of its content. In a tweet early Sunday, @donk_enby said she was crawling some 1.1 million Parler video URLs. “These are the original, unprocessed, raw files as uploaded to Parler with all associated metadata,” she said. Included in this data tranche, now more than 56 terabytes in size, @donk_enby confirmed that the raw video files include GPS metadata pointing to exact locations of where the videos were taken.

@donk_enby later shared a screenshot showing the GPS position of a particular video, with coordinates in latitude and longitude.

The privacy implications are obvious, but the copious data may also serve as a fertile hunting ground for law enforcement. Federal and local authorities have arrested dozens of suspects in recent days accused of taking part in the Capitol riot, where a Capitol police officer, Brian Sicknick, was fatally wounded after being struck in the head with a fire extinguisher.

@donk_enby describes herself as hacker, in the sense that she’s “someone with a creative, but skeptical attitude toward technology,” to paraphrase a definition offered by the Chaos Computer Club, Europe’s largest hacker association. “I want this to be a big middle finger to those who say hacking shouldn’t be political,” she said. @donk_enby work has aided other researchers, including one at New York University’s Center for Cybersecurity.

Trump Warned About Potential Civil Liability
6:50 am
ABC News:
“In the wake of Wednesday’s assault on the nation’s Capitol, President Trump has been advised he potentially could face civil liability connected to his role in encouraging supporters who went on to storm Congress.

“‘Think O.J.,’ an adviser explained it to Trump, according to one source. It was a reference to O.J. Simpson, who was found not guilty of murdering his ex-wife and a friend but later faced stiff civil damages after being sued by his ex-wife’s family.”
_________

I understand that it was also explained to Trump that if he pardons or even tries to pardon himself, that could be seen as an admission of guilt opening him up even more to civil suits.

So he has stopped asking about the possibility of pardoning himself.

The Republicans like Boebert, Ted Cruz, and Josh Hawley, who helped to motivate this deadly white supremacist mob to invade the Capitol, plant explosive devices, and murder a police officer, must be condemned, held accountable, and removed from office.

The 14th amendment was created after the civil war to keep the traitors from being seated.

When our company made a big push to "the cloud" a few years back I asked in a fairly large meeting what the "real" difference was between "the cloud" and those old mainframe servers. Let's just say I wasn't provided with a very good answer other than as a matter or perception our sales teams needed to be able to provide a cloud option to prospective buyers, because that was where things "were heading".

Not all clients can do it. Many Government agencies are required to host their own data by law and many big clients are still "on-premise" hosting and maintaining everything with their own IT - but it's becoming more and more about the "cloud" good, bad, or indifferent.

Trump Authoritarianism Denial Is Over Now
12:00 pm
Jonathan Chait: “From the beginning, the danger presented by Donald Trump was so insultingly obvious it hardly required analysis: Here was an unfit leader driven by contempt for democratic rules and norms. From this observation, the conclusion was equally simple: Supporting the political opposition — i.e., the Democratic Party — was the only responsible course of action.

“The logic was clear enough to just enough Americans in just enough states to end the Trump experiment after a single term. But one of the confounding things about this era is how many otherwise intelligent people have been unable or unwilling to grasp the obvious. What these skeptics shared was a distaste for the remedy of supporting the Democrats, even temporarily, which motivated them to deny the underlying malady. If they wished to support Trump, or at least not to give the Democrats unreserved support, then they had to demonstrate that Trump did not pose any special danger to the Republic.

“Even after four years of Trump abusing power, fomenting violence, and actively attempting to rig the vote while claiming any prospect of defeat must be fraudulent, his supporters denied any danger…

“The debate came to a sudden end last week, when Trump directed a mob to storm the Capitol, in an attempt to pressure Mike Pence and the Senate to carry out a wild plan to nullify the results of the election.”

Scott, did you watch the President before he got on Marine One? Politico reports.

President Donald Trump on Tuesday defended as “totally appropriate” the speech he made at a rally last week that was followed by his supporters launching a deadly siege of the Capitol. you condemned his speech!

In his first live remarks since the violence last Wednesday, Trump deflected blame and sought to highlight other politicians’ comments last summer about protests against racial injustice and police brutality.

“If you read my speech — and many people have done it, and I’ve seen it both in the papers and in the media, on television — it’s been analyzed, and people thought that what I said was totally appropriate,” Trump told reporters at Joint Base Andrews, en route to Alamo, Texas.

“And if you look at what other people have said — politicians at a high level — about the riots during the summer, the horrible riots in Portland and Seattle and various other places, that was a real problem, what they said,” Trump continued.

“But they’ve analyzed my speech and my words and my final paragraph, my final sentence, and everybody — to the tee — thought it was totally appropriate.”

He's not sane enough for even 8 more days!

Operation Warp Speed plans to announce changes to the vaccine rollout on Tuesday. Notably, the Trump administration will make more doses of the coronavirus vaccine available immediately, rather than hold them back for second doses. The move comes just days after President-elect Joe Biden announced plans to release nearly all of the supply.

It also plans to urge states to provide the vaccine to anyone 65 or older, and to adults who have a preexisting condition that puts them at greater risk for severe illness. The change will sharply increase the number of people eligible for the shots.
