Some people have very short memories...

Once again... unprecedented doesn't mean what some believe it means?

More than 300 people were taken into custody by police on Capitol Hill after descending on a pair of Senate office buildings Thursday afternoon to protest the confirmation process of Brett Kavanaugh, President Trump's Supreme Court nominee.
The vast majority of the arrests, 293, were a result of protests in the Hart Senate Office Building, where protesters crowded in the atrium. Loud chants could be heard throughout the building, which is structured so the hallways of each floor open up and look out onto the first floor.
Those arrested in Hart were charged with crowding, obstructing or incommoding, according to Capitol Police. Another nine people were arrested on the fourth floor of Dirksen Senate Office Building and charged with unlawful demonstrations.
The demonstrations inspired loud cheers from onlookers on various floors of the building, some of them appearing to be protesters themselves. Hundreds of people could be seen on the first level and in the hallways of several floors throughout the building.
Police were present throughout the building. On the second level where senators on the Senate Intelligence Committee were holding a regular closed-door briefing, several police officers began clearing the hallway of protesters about 3:45 p.m., as various senators exited. They warned protesters that they would be arrested if they did not exit the hallway.

So seriously, what's the difference here? Thousands were in the capital to protest the confirmation of Kavanaugh, and several hundred got into the building and were attempting to prevent the Senate from confirming Kavanaugh.

The only real difference that I can tell is that there was less security protecting the building, and that nobody decided to abandon the building when the protesters entered. If I recall correctly at least one or two actually made it into the actual proceedings and had to be taken out.

Apparently the main difference is whether or not you are a liberal who justified the antics of the anti-Kavanaugh protesters because you believed in the cause, but demand that the same actions as an attempt to block the electoral college vote was treason. Or if you are a conservative and have the integrity to condemn both sets of actions.

i'm old enough to remember when radical leftists occupied the WI state house.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2011_Wisconsin_protests

good times...

The 2011 occupation of the state Capitol was the longest in U.S. history.

In February and March of 2011, the Wisconsin Capitol hosted the longest continuous occupation of a major government building in the history of the United States. Gov. Scott Walker had just proposed a bill curtailing the collective bargaining rights of state workers, igniting an intense mobilization. Crowds on the Capitol Square peaked at well over 100,000. Many of them stayed around the clock and slept on the granite floors of the building. The protest took this form, in part, for strategic reasons. Going to the Capitol and staying there was one of the boldest non-violent means for people to show their objection to controversial legislation. After all, that’s where Walker’s office is, where both houses of the Legislature meet, and where the state Supreme Court hears arguments.

Mick Mulvaney, the U.S. special envoy for Northern Ireland and the former White House chief of staff, has resigned his post, he confirmed, becoming the latest Trump administration official to step down in the aftermath of Wednesday’s riot at the Capitol.

Mr. Mulvaney told CNBC that he had called Secretary of State Mike Pompeo Wednesday night to let him know he was resigning from his diplomatic post. “I can’t stay here. Not after yesterday,
” he told CNBC.

Mr. Mulvaney, who wrote a commentary for The Wall Street Journal Opinion page in November titled “If He Loses, Trump Will Concede Gracefully,” said he wouldn’t be surprised if others in the administration also resigned over the next few days.

A number of White House officials resigned Wednesday in the wake of the violence. Among them were Matthew Pottinger, the deputy national security adviser, and Stephanie Grisham, chief of staff and press secretary to first lady Melania Trump. National security adviser Robert O'Brien was considering resigning but hadn't made up his mind to do so, according to people familiar with the situation.

GOP Lawmaker Says Trump’s Legacy ‘Wiped Out’
7:46 am EST
Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC), a freshman congresswoman sworn in just days before President Trump’s supporters stormed the Capitol, argued Thursday that the deadly siege had “wiped out” his administration’s legacy and any accomplishments he had achieved over the last four years, Politico reports.

Said Mace: “I’m disappointed right now. I think that after last night — and I’m on my 100th hour of being a member of Congress, I’m working on about two hours of sleep — I’m distraught. We’ve got to rebuild our nation, and we’ve got to rebuild our party. This is not who we are. It’s extremely distressing. And it’s saddening. It’s heartbreaking.”

Mulvaney Quits Post In Protest
8:08 am
Mick Mulvaney, President Trump’s former chief of staff and current special envoy to Northern Ireland, told CNBC that he’s resigning from his diplomatic post.

Said Mulvaney: “I called Mike Pompeo last night to let him know I was resigning from that. I can’t do it. I can’t stay.”

He added: “Those who choose to stay, and I have talked with some of them, are choosing to stay because they’re worried the president might put someone worse in.”

Tim Miller: “Sure is strange how many people who wanted Donald Trump to be president for 4 more years all of the sudden think he’s too unhinged for them to stay 2 more weeks.”

Republicans Own This Insurrection
7:57 am
Peter Wehner: “The scene that unfolded at the U.S. Capitol yesterday—an insurrection in all of its ugliness, all of its violence, and all of its kaleidoscopic horror—is the responsibility of Donald Trump. But it doesn’t stop there.

“It is also the responsibility of countless of his aides and supporters, those in right-wing media and Trump’s evangelical backers, “intellectuals” and pseudo-historians, Republicans in Congress and outside it, all of those who have stood with Trump at every moment in his corrupt and corrupting presidency. It is the responsibility of Trump allies who attacked those who warned that Trump was malicious and malignant; who said that he was an institutional arsonist who would do grave damage to the nation; who warned about his race-baiting, his constant provocations, the psychic delight he took in dividing Americans and stoking grievances; and who raised concerns because Trump’s sociopathic tendencies might lead him, and those who followed him, to very dark places.

“President Trump is the architect of this insurrection, but so are his acolytes.”

The Capitol Siege’s QAnon’s Roots
7:54 am
Axios: “A growing segment of the American far right, radicalized via social media and private online groups, views anyone who bucks President Trump’s will as evil. That includes Democrats, the media, celebrities, judges and officeholders — even conservatives, should they cross the president.

“A great many Trump supporters spent recent weeks on heavily pro-Trump platforms like TheDonald.win and Parler openly discussing coming to Washington on Jan. 6 to launch an attack on the government.

“Often the idea was discussed in vague or winking terms; other times, users explicitly called for elected officials to be abducted and executed.”

Trump, Alone
7:51 am
“President Trump enjoys the fervent support of tens of millions of Americans. But his closest friends and paid White House officials — many of the Trumpiest Trumpers we know — are avoiding him like the plague,” Axios reports.

“The president’s final days in office will be lonely ones. Some stalwart aides and confidants — after years of enduring the crazy and trying to modulate the chaos — have given up trying to communicate with him, considering him mentally unreachable.”

Republicans Enabled Trump, Then Some Strangled Him
7:49 am
Jim VandeHei: “There are no heroes here — courage brimmed only at the precipice. But a few people who watched the system breach, in the end, did not allow it to break. Only in time will we learn the reward or consequences of their actions.”

Alexander Hamilton Warned of the Trump Era
9:20 am
Writing in 1792, Alexander Hamilton described the kind of person who could destroy the republic:

When a man unprincipled in private life desperate in his fortune, bold in his temper, possessed of considerable talents, having the advantage of military habits—despotic in his ordinary demeanour—known to have scoffed in private at the principles of liberty—when such a man is seen to mount the hobby horse of popularity—to join in the cry of danger to liberty—to take every opportunity of embarrassing the General Government & bringing it under suspicion—to flatter and fall in with all the non sense of the zealots of the day—It may justly be suspected that his object is to throw things into confusion that he may “ride the storm and direct the whirlwind.”

Well, except for the “military habits” reference.

The Culmination of Four Years of American Carnage
9:16 am
First Read: “The unprecedented political insurrection, the violence and the vandalism at the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday was no spontaneous accident.

“It was the culmination of the last four years, which started with Donald Trump’s words of ‘American carnage’ at his inaugural address.

“It carried over to Charlottesville (after which Trump said he condemned ‘many sides’), to last September’s first presidential debate (‘Proud Boys, stand back and stand by’), to Trump’s inability to denounce QAnon (‘I know nothing about them’), and then finally to Trump’s words to his supporters before they stormed the Capitol.”

The Right’s New Conspiracy Theory
9:13 am
Steve Benen writes about an email that you can expect “from your weird relatives” blaming the left for the Capitol riot:

“Lou Dobbs and Rep. Mo Brooks, discussed the possibility of antifa instigators’ infiltrating the pro-Trump mob. And former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin made the same claim, telling Fox News host Martha MacCallum that it was unclear who was instigating the riots. ‘A lot of it is the antifa folks,’ Palin said, citing “pictures” she had seen. Laura Ingraham, one of the channel’s primetime hosts, spent much of the hour of her show suggesting without evidence that the Trump protesters had been infiltrated by antifa.”

Republicans Must Explain Why They Enabled Trump
8:16 am
GOP strategist Frank Luntz told CNBC that Republicans in Congress must offer explanations for why they did not more forcefully condemn President Trump’s false election claims prior to the riot at the U.S. Capitol.

Said Luntz: “I think that the Republicans have a lot to do now to repair this breach. They have a lot to do to explain why they did not stand up to the president before this, why these protests were allowed to get out of control like this.”

The Day Trump Broke the GOP
6:38 am
“Republicans started the day losing the Senate. They ended it with President Donald Trump’s supporters LOSING THEIR MINDS,” Politico reports.

“Jan. 6, 2021 might have been remembered for an intraparty battle over whether to certify Joe Biden’s election win or who to blame for the Georgia defeats. But instead it will go down as the day that broke the Republican Party as we know it and began the GOP’s ultimate reckoning with Trumpism.

“It literally took a riot of Trump supporters in the Capitol for many Republicans to finally confront the defeated president — a moment of bedlam that put those GOP lawmakers’ own lives at risk. After his supporters stormed into the Capitol, vandalized the building and fought with police officers, several typically strong allies turned on Trump.”

Trump Loyalty Disintegrates
6:36 am
“President Trump was ensconced in the White House residence Wednesday night, raging about perceived betrayals, as an array of top aides weighed resigning and some senior administration officials began conversations about invoking the 25th Amendment — an extraordinary measure that would remove the president before Trump’s term expires on Jan. 20,” the Washington Post reports.

Politico: “What began as a rally intended to support Trump became a permanent and irreversible stain on his presidency Wednesday afternoon, as fans of the outgoing president stormed the U.S. Capitol — shattering windows, prompting evacuations and injuring law enforcement officials in the process — to temporarily halt the certification of his opponent’s 2020 victory.”

Congress Confirms Biden’s Election
6:29 am
“Congress certified the election of Joe Biden early Thursday, hours after a mob of loyalists urged on by President Trump stormed and occupied the Capitol, disrupting the final electoral count in a shocking display of violence that shook the core of American democracy,” the New York Times reports.

“Mr. Trump, who spent months stoking the anger of his supporters with false claims that the election was stolen and refused to condemn the violent protests on Wednesday, said early Thursday that there would be an orderly presidential transition this month.”

Said Trump: “Even though I totally disagree with the outcome of the election, and the facts bear me out, nevertheless there will be an orderly transition on January 20th.”

There’s No Refuge for Republicans
10:30 am
Ezra Klein: “When the literalists rushed the chamber, Pence, Cruz and Hawley were among those who had to be evacuated, for their own safety. Some of their compatriots, like Senator Kelly Loeffler, rescinded their objections to the election, seemingly shaken by the beast they had unleashed. But there is no real refuge from the movement they fed. Trump’s legions are still out there, and now they are mourning a death and feeling yet more deceived by many of their supposed allies in Washington, who turned on them as soon as they did what they thought they had been asked to do.”

“The problem isn’t those who took Trump at his word from the start. It’s the many, many elected Republicans who took him neither seriously nor literally, but cynically. They have brought this upon themselves — and us.”

WASHINGTONWASHINGTON (Reuters) -A handful of U.S. congressional Republicans turned on President Donald Trump on Wednesday, after a crowd of his supporters stormed the Capitol building in a bid to help him overturn his defeat in the November election.

"There is no question that the president formed the mob, the President incited the mob, the President addressed the mob. He lit the flame," House of Representatives Republican Conference Chairwoman Liz Cheney tweeted.

The daughter of former Vice President Dick Cheney described the assault as an attempt to prevent Congress from carrying out its constitutional duty to review the results of the 2020 election.

Representative Mike Gallagher, a Republican who supports Trump, had a more colorful description of the assault. "We are witnessing absolute banana republic crap in the United States Capitol right now. @realDonaldTrump, you need to call this off," he posted on Twitter as demonstrators broke windows to gain entry to the U.S. Capitol.

Representative James French Hill, who has voted with Trump more than 95% of the time, told CNBC: "The president bears part of the responsibility for the heated rhetoric."

Trump supporters burst into the halls of Congress as Trump's Republican allies aired their objections to the Nov. 3 presidential election won by President-elect Joe Biden.

Biden, who takes office on Jan. 20, called it "an insurrection" for demonstrators to storm the Capitol, smash windows, occupy offices, invade the halls of Congress and threaten the safety of duly elected officials.

"I could not agree more with President-elect Biden's statement to the nation," Republican Senator Lindsey Graham, a staunch Trump ally, said in a statement on Twitter that did not mention Trump.

Without naming Trump, Republican former President George W. Bush said in a statement: "I am appalled by the reckless behavior of some political leaders since the election and by the lack of respect shown today for our institutions, our traditions, and our law enforcement."

Your children will look back upon your behavior during this period of time with appall.

On the evening of November 7, 1983, a call came into the U.S. Capitol switchboard. “Listen carefully, I’m only going to tell you this one time,” the caller said. “There is a bomb in the Capitol building. It will go off in five minutes. Evacuate the building.” Then the caller hung up.

At 10:58 p.m., a blast went off on the second floor of the structure’s north wing. The explosion blew doors off their hinges, shattered chandeliers and sent a shower of pulverized glass, brick and plaster into the Republican cloakroom. The shock wave from the explosion sounded like a sonic boom. A jogger outside on the Capitol grounds heard the blast: “It was loud enough to make my ears hurt. It kept echoing and echoing—boom, boom.” According to one estimate, the bomb caused $1 million in damage.

Later, National Public Radio received a message from a group calling itself the Armed Resistance Unit: “Tonight we bombed the U.S. Capitol.” Nobody was killed or injured in the attack, but the ARU made clear that it had contemplated lethal action: “We purposely aimed our attack at the institutions of imperialist rule rather than at individual members of the ruling class and government. We did not choose to kill any of them at this time. But their lives are not sacred and their hands are stained with the blood of millions.”

Well first of all... thanks for attempting to provide an answer rather than just an attack.

But the facts remain that nearly 300 people were arrested during the Kavanaugh hearings. You should have recalled the actual Senate Chambers having to be secured while people outside attempted to break in.

There was certainly "less" law enforcement and there was not the same attempt to "keep the Kavanaugh protesters out" as there was to keep the protesters out yesterday. So that leads to less physicality between the two groups.

The issue with the two apparent "home made bombs" are not 100% known to be part of the same issue. As one of the supposed "bombs" was found at the RNC headquarters, not at the scene in question. I have not gotten much "verification" from reliable sources on either "home made bomb" that was reported.

I've seen a lot of pictures from inside the building of a lot of protesters and the only guns I saw were on law enforcement and the only person shot was a 14 year Veteran with four tours of duty (not exactly a criminal).

Again, Reverend...

I don't condone these actions and I wish that they have never happened. But the facts remain that this was not the first time that the Congressional offices were stormed by protesters who were there to "prevent" Congress from doing their jobs.

Moreover, these are not the first "Federal buildings" that have been attacked, as that has been happening in Seattle, Portland, and many other places... where Federal buildings were attacked by actual ARMED protesters with guns, lasers, and Molotov cocktails (which simply having possession of is a Federal felony).

Facebook chief executive Mark Zuckerberg said Thursday the social media giant is banning President Trump indefinitely, marking a dramatic escalation between Silicon Valley and the White House after Trump weaponized the web to help stoke a riot at the U.S. Capitol.

“We believe the risks of allowing the President to continue to use our service during this period are simply too great,” Zuckerberg wrote. "Therefore, we are extending the block we have placed on his Facebook and Instagram accounts indefinitely and for at least the next two weeks until the peaceful transition of power is complete.”

NEWSWEEK
FBI, Homeland Security, White House Advisers Foresaw Possible
Trouble and Looked the Other Way

They knew it could happen. They feared that Donald Trump would pull a "Samson," bringing down the whole house on top of him in the two weeks before he left the White House. Officials from the FBI, the Secret Service, Homeland Security, the District of Columbia government, the Pentagon, the National Guard, and the Joint Task Force–National Capital Region who spoke to Newsweek last weekend on condition of anonymity, all talked about the potential for protesters and militias and paramilitary goons—egged on by the president—to storm Capitol Hill and even the Capitol building itself.

A half-dozen sources spoke openly about this very scenario: that the mob would take over the "People's House" and that somehow the system would break down. They speculated that this could occur because of the president's treasonous behavior, because of leadership deficiencies in the federal government and Congress, because of the extreme partisanship of the moment, and because everyone was looking the wrong way.

The blame was spread around, with the FBI dismissing the Department of Homeland Security as a bunch of amateurs and thugs; the military shaking their heads about President Trump and an absent White House leadership; Homeland Security department members mocking the District of Columbia's mayor, Attorney General, and police; and everyone making clear that "the problem" was someone else's.

It was clear that the very law enforcement and security people who in theory were responsible for maintaining order in our capital city weren't ready, weren't well led, weren't organized properly, and weren't impartial.

How did we get here? There are multiple causes for this historic failure.

The patchwork quilt of roles and responsibilities created post-9/11, and the immense public illiteracy regarding all things national security, have weakened America.

Many people in official Washington had tolerated and even humored President Trump's sedition and incitement to riot. FBI sources said the White House wasn't ordering any new security measures, wasn't ordering any additional resources, and wasn't coordinating any extension of the so-called inaugural "National Security Special Event" timeline to include this week (it officially covers January 15-21). It wasn't doing those things, the sources said, because presidential aides were afraid that any movement might provoke Donald Trump to do something even worse than whatever he was already planning.

Several of the sources said the U.S. Capitol Police—with a strength of more than 2,000 law enforcement officers—might not act, or might be intentionally stood down, because many Congressional Republican leaders wanted the mob to amplify their shrinking voices that the election was illegitimate. There has been no confirmation of this claim. But it's notable that it took less than 15 minutes for the mob to gain entrance to the Capitol Building--and then virtually nothing was done to eject them.

Sources from other departments said the Department of Homeland Security—which had declined to use its mammoth army of law enforcement officers to suppress protests in Portland and other cities, ostensibly because they were needed in DC to protect government buildings—was making itself virtually absent from the scene for the transition. The Acting Secretary of Homeland Security Chad Wolf is actually in the Middle East, evidently not thinking that the threat was severe enough for him to be in Washington.

Honest, decent, truthful Rev. said...

The DHS has been indiscriminate in using its law enforcement arms, now the largest in the federal government—Secret Service agents, ICE, Customs and Border Protection, Homeland Security Investigations, Federal Air Marshals and even the Federal Protective Service—to intervene over the past year when protests didn't involve pro-Trump, right wing mobs. The Capitol Police did come out in force when Black Lives Matter and Antifa approached Capitol Hill last summer.

FBI sources told Newsweek that the Bureau was closely watching the various protestors converging on the city, that the Department of Justice was taking the law enforcement lead no matter what other agencies of the government were doing, and that the Bureau had a good sense of the protestors, the size of the crowd, the leaders, and the dangers. The intelligence apparently did not anticipate what the news media was openly speculating about and what the president and his supporters were publicly tweeting.

The District of Columbia government was the only prepared and ready force on Wednesday. Mayor Muriel Bowser activated 340 District National Guardsmen and women before Wednesday. In keeping with a desire not to use soldiers to enforce the law, she kept them unarmed and assigned them to traffic control and other duties to relieve more police officers of the Metropolitan Police Department—3,800 strong, the sixth largest municipal police department in the nation—to enforce the laws.

The riots—and the District's response—underscored the argument for making D.C. a state, so that the mayor wouldn't have to ask permission of the Secretary of the Army to activate the DC Guard.

And finally there's the Pentagon. Donald Trump's walk into Lafayette Park last June, accompanied by a gaggle of federal, National Guard and local police forces, jolted the U.S. military. Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Mark Milley, in uniform, joined the president's entourage, giving the impression that the uniformed military supported Trump and the forces surrounding him. Gen. Milley was pummeled for his "loss of situational awareness," for being there. He publicly apologized.

The Lafayette Park incident and Milley's apology shifted Pentagon culture; ranking officers firmly rejected talk of martial law and openly declared that the U.S. armed forces had no role to play in the election or the transition. Now the Pentagon is being dragged in anyhow, in the form of the National Guard: the last non-partisan, honorable and duty-bound institution in Washington.

But the political structure has failed spectacularly, creating and living with a federal government so faulty that it gives the impression "the military" is the only institution that can be trusted, that it is the only one that can and will always save the day. The Congressional leadership cheered when they heard that the National Guard was on the way to the Capitol today.

To restore the rule of law and ensure accountability for protecting America's democracy, the post-Trump reforms must be as dramatic as the ones that followed 9/11. "The military is the only answer" is not just a false belief: it also weakens the civil institutions on which our nation depends.

But you are arguing that the two are equivalent?

I am arguing that the demands that this was some kind of once in a lifetime aberration of character for US citizens is misguided and completely based on bias and lack of acceptance of other realities.

What I have heard (from many people who like to argue with me) is that "this" was different than Antifa attacks on Federal building because it happened in D.C. and that it was specifically designed to "prevent Congress" from doing something that these protesters didn't want them to do (certify the election results).

This is being called a "coup" because of the "INTENTIONS" of the crowd was to stop something from happening. Obviously they could only delay it from happening. Nobody "really" believed that they could stop it by storming a Congressional building.

But those "intentions" are no different than the "intentions" of the Kavanaugh protesters who stormed the building for the EXACT SAME PURPOSE of preventing the Senate Confirmation hearing from being completed. Obviously they had to know that they would not succeed as well.

There was NOTHING that happened yesterday that comes anywhere near close (in terms of violence, people coming armed and ready for a fight, etc) of what we saw over the Summer in Portland, Seattle and other places were ICE faculties, Federal buildings were attacked.

I think what you have to do, Reverend... is look inside yourself and ask yourself a simple question. Is there something inside of "YOU" that simply believes inherently that these "Trump supporters" are more dangerous and violent than the "Kavanaugh protesters" were, regardless of action. Do you view people running down the halls differently because of who they were and what they were protesting... rather than what they were actually doing?

Because it seems to me that these protesters were way less dangerous and way less violent than the average Antifa riot that happened more times that we can count over the past several months. But they are being treated as if they were way "more" dangerous and violent...

The proof is in the pudding? How many people (other than the actual Trump protesters) were injured? How many police officers were blinded? How many were carted off in ambulances? How many innocent bystanders were attacked by the crowd?

In a time when we declare that an entire City block can be basically burned to the ground, and it is "mostly peaceful" - how was this objectively "worse".

Because it seems like you are attempting to straddle two realities here. You want to compare it as worse than Antifa attacks because it happened in D.C. and it attempted to disrupt Government business. But you also want to compare it as worse than the last time there was people storming the building in an attempt to disrupt Government business over differences without much distinction.

But there are also videos of some Protesters who were physically attempting to stop people from breaking in (which was being labeled a antifa being the ones attempting to break in).

And there is also video and facial recognition software that suggests that there were multiple people involved in the actual storming of the building that have also been seen in Antifa and BLM riots. Whether these are Antifa people disguising themselves, or just instigators who want to be part of every protest and riot... who knows.

Is that I am being personally attacked for pointing out that what happened yesterday has been happening all over the country (and way worse in many cases) for some time. Pointing out that this was not an "unprecedented act" as much as people claim it is.

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.wbaltv.com/amp/article/there-is-no-evidence-that-suggests-antifa-was-a-part-of-the-storming-of-the-capitol/35145385

Several posts, particularly on the right-leaning social media platform Parler, shared images that posters claimed as evidence antifa demonstrators were behind the riot. The images did not, however, show any antifa involvement, and in many instances suggested ties to far-right extremist groups like the Proud Boys, or conspiracy movements like QAnon.

President Donald Trump, in a now-deleted video to his supporters, even acknowledged the group as his supporters, saying "we love you" and repeating a baseless claim the election was stolen from them. The riot began after Trump, speaking at a rally, directed the crowd to go to the Capitol.

Related video: Trump urges Capitol protesters to 'go home now'

One frequent act of misinformation being spread is to show a picture of a member of the mob of protesters side by side with a picture of the same person at a Black Lives Matter rally or among a group of antifa members. However these images often leave out context as to whether the person in question was at these rallies as an ally or a counter-protester to groups like BLM.

A frequently employed example being the well-recognized man wearing a horned headdress who was a part of the riot. A picture of him attending a BLM protest is often shared suggesting he is secretly an antifa supporter, but while at the BLM protest, he held a counter-protest sign saying "Q SENT ME." The sign is often cropped out.

On Twitter, there were more than 1,250 posts from accounts related to the QAnon conspiracy theory about Wednesday's protests containing terms of violence since Jan. 1. The most basic QAnon belief casts President Trump as the hero in a fight against the "deep state" and a sinister cabal of Democratic politicians and celebrities who abuse children.

One post from a QAnon-related account retweeted a post with a baseless conspiracy theory that Democrats, Black Lives Matter activists, and Antifa protestors were planning to kill Trump supporters and advocated for whoever noticed these individuals to get "rid of them."

Despite the lack of evidence, U.S. Congressmen, Louie Gohmert, R-TX, and Mo Brooks, R-AL, spread this conspiracy theory on Twitter. Later Wednesday night, Congressman Matt Goetz, R-FL, also pushed these false claims while speaking to the House.

Lin Wood, a pro-Trump attorney who is involved with the QAnon movement, sent several viral tweets that falsely claimed that members of antifa were inside the Capitol. A commonly shared image he posted features a bearded man wearing a hoodie seen among the mob inside the Capitol posted with another photo of supposedly the same person, the second photo having come from “PhillyAntifa.org,” suggesting he is actually antifa.

“Indisputable photographic evidence that antifa violently broke into Congress today to inflict harm & do damage,” Wood said on Twitter. “NOT @realDonaldTrump supporters.”

But the page on phillyantifa.org is not of him being involved with the group, but of the group accusing him to be a member of a neo-Nazi group.
