Lately liberals have loved the ACLU. Today they are probably wanting to censor them.
“It should concern everyone when companies like Facebook and Twitter wield the unchecked power to remove people from platforms that have become indispensable for the speech of billions — especially when political realities make those decisions easier”
“President Trump can turn to his press team or Fox News to communicate with the public, but others — like the many Black, Brown, and LGBTQ activists who have been censored by social media companies — will not have that luxury.”
I find it funny that the ACLU considers that "political realities" now play some part in the first amendment and free speech in general (they don't). I also find it interesting that they equate the hundreds of thousands of twitter account suspensions and deletions to minorities and LGBTQ people. Not who was censored and I have never actually heard of Facebook or Twitter censoring anyone because of their race.
But at least they get the bigger picture. Just because you "can" do something, doesn't mean that you should. This thing will eventually head to the courts. I have a sneaking suspicion that when all is said and done that it will become painfully obvious that there are two sets of rules when it comes to suspensions. One for liberals and one for conservatives. That simply is unconstitutional when it is applied to anything that is "legally" a public forum.

Scott I understand you. I don't share your concerns but eventually it will probably go to the Supreme Court.
The originalist may affirm my opinion.
The internet is open forum. But the companies like Twitter and Facebook and Instagram are publishers protected by the first amendment.
Do you want to implement The Freedom Doctrine to the internet?

The Fairness Doctrine applied to over the air broadcasting. When cable TV came along Reagan Reagan repealed it.
The government had control of over the air broadcasting system. It was a brand new technology. Television started about the end of World war two.

dumb fuck,
Twitter and Facebook and Instagram RENOUNCE being referred to as publishers and insist upon being referred to as platforms. that's the core of the entire Sec. 230 debate today. this is in fact exactly how they're getting away with the censorship of their ideological enemies.
goddamn, you can't even manage to get the basic facts straight.
Colts are not shitty

A Wall Street Journal exclusive report. The District Attorney refused to steal the election.
White House officials pushed Atlanta’s top federal prosecutor to resign before Georgia’s U.S. Senate runoffs because President Trump was upset he wasn’t doing enough to investigate the president’s allegations of election fraud, people familiar with the matter said.
A senior Justice Department official, at the behest of the White House, called Trump-appointed U.S. Attorney Byung J. Pak and told him he needed to step down because he wasn’t pursuing vote-fraud allegations to Mr. Trump’s satisfaction, the people said.
Mr. Pak resigned abruptly on Monday—the day before the runoffs—saying in an early morning email to colleagues that his departure was due to “unforeseen circumstances.”
The most corrupt administration in history.

The pressure on Mr. Pak was part of Mr. Trump’s weekslong push to try to alter presidential election results favoring President-elect Joe Biden, which included his win in Georgia. Mr. Trump this week, following the U.S. Capitol riot, said he would leave office on Jan. 20 when Mr. Biden is inaugurated.
Recently departed Attorney General William Barr has said the Justice Department hadn’t found evidence of widespread voter fraud that could reverse Mr. Biden’s victory, including claims of fraud, ballot destruction and voting-machine manipulation.
Dozens of state and federal court decisions also have rejected efforts by Mr. Trump and his supporters. And Congress formally certified Mr. Biden’s Electoral College victory on Thursday, after a violent pro-Trump mob stormed the Capitol and forced a delay in the process.
The White House and the Justice Department didn’t immediately respond to requests for comment. Mr. Pak didn’t respond to requests for comment.
Mr. Pak’s resignation came one day after the public release of the audio of a Jan. 2 call in which Mr. Trump had urged Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger to overturn the November election results. Mr. Trump told Mr. Raffensperger in the roughly hourlong call that the Georgia Republican could face legal action and said he should find nearly 12,000 votes of five million cast to reverse Mr. Biden’s victory in the state.
Mr. Raffensperger rejected pressure to further investigate an election, telling the president, “The challenge that you have is that the data you have is wrong.”
Raffensperger is a patriot
You laughed at me when I said this.
The Wall Street Journal is not a never Trumper
This time, it is hard to predict where the GOP will end up. Rick Tyler, a Republican strategist who worked on Sen. Cruz’s 2016 presidential campaign and has been critical of the president, said there will be more electoral failures if the GOP remains too closely associated with Mr. Trump.
“Unless the party fully rejects Trump, it will quickly become irrelevant,” he said. “The type of candidates a Trump-centric Republican Party will nominate will be easily beaten in most general elections, relegating themselves to being a perpetual minority and regional party.”
Very sad that Lil Schitty now finds a friend in the ACLU......certainly a first they have a position he approves of especially with their position on gay rights.....I wonder how he can sleep at night supporting trump who only cares about his fat assed twitter account that should be shut down based on his constant lying, inciting and BULLSHIT!!!!! They still are a private platform with rules that have been broken.....!!!!!! Don't like the rules.....start your own platform....he has plenty of money for such an endeavor!!!!!!!
More rioters who stormed the U.S. Capitol this week were arrested and charged Saturday as additional video came out showing the chaos of the deadly mob incited by President Donald Trump.
Among those arrested were the rioters seen carrying House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's lectern, a Republican legislator from West Virginia and the man who calls himself a QAnon shaman.
Meanwhile, House Democrats plan to introduce an article of impeachment as early as Monday, likely an article alleging "incitement of insurrection."
Trump was banned from Twitter late Friday "due to the risk of further incitement of violence," the social media company said, adding that there was a risk of "future armed protests" at the Capitol. Trump attempted to evade the ban by tweeting from other accounts, which have also been banned or had tweets deleted.
Earlier, he said he would not attend Biden's inauguration, an event for which ADL (formerly known as the Anti-Defamation League) says extremists have begun plotting their next coup attempt.
For the latest developments, keep refreshing this page. Here's what to know:
Air Force veteran fired after reported Capitol riot participation
An Air Force combat veteran has been fired after he was reportedly identified as one of the Capitol rioters carrying zip-tie handcuffs on the Senate floor Wednesday.
Texas-based Hillwood Airways confirmed to USA TODAY Saturday that retired Lieutenant Colonel Larry Rendall Brock, Jr. had been terminated following a report in the New Yorker that identified him.
Brock told the magazine that he was the man in the photos and videos seen standing in the Senate chamber holding zip ties. He told the New Yorker that he found them on the floor. "I wish I had not picked those up," he told the magazine.
Brock did not respond to several USA TODAY requests for comment Saturday.
Family members and a friend told the magazine the Air Force Academy graduate and combat veteran had grown more radical in recent years. At least two researchers told the New Yorker that they had identified Brock through facial recognition technology. The researchers did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

More rioters arrested, charged
► Doug Jensen, a 41-year-old Des Moines, Iowa, man, is in custody in the Polk County Jail, Sgt. Ryan Evans of the Polk County Sheriff's Office confirmed Saturday morning. Jensen was arrested and charged by the FBI, Evans said. He was identified in multiple videos and photographs at the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday wearing a "QAnon" T-shirt over a sweatshirt and a knit cap.
► Adam Johnson, 36, of Parrish, Florida, was charged with one count of knowingly entering or remaining in any restricted building or grounds without lawful authority; one count of theft of government property; and one count of violent entry and disorderly conduct on Capitol grounds, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia said. Authorities identified him as the man photographed carrying the lectern of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif. Johnson was being held in Pinellas County jail Saturday on hold for a U.S. Marshal warrant, county jail records show.
► Jacob Anthony Chansley, who is also known as Jake Angeli, of Arizona, was charged with knowingly entering or remaining in any restricted building or grounds without lawful authority, and with violent entry and disorderly conduct on Capitol grounds, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia said. Authorities identified him as wearing red-white-and-blue face paint with the horns and bearskin. Angeli is a QAnon supporter who has been a fixture at Arizona right-wing political rallies over the past year. He calls himself a QAnon shaman. Chansley confirmed to the FBI that he was the person photographed with face paint and headdress at the vice president’s chair in the Senate chamber, according to an affidavit accompanying the arrest warrant. “Chansley stated that he came as a part of a group effort, with other ‘patriots’ from Arizona, at the request of the President that all ‘patriots’ come to D.C. on January 6, 2021,” the affidavit said.
► Derrick Evans, 35, of West Virginia was charged with one count of knowingly entering or remaining in any restricted building or grounds without lawful authority; and one count of violent entry and disorderly conduct on Capitol Grounds, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia. Evans, a recently elected member of the West Virginia House of Delegates who resigned on Saturday, streamed live to his Facebook page a video of himself joining and encouraging a crowd unlawfully entering the U.S. Capitol. “We’re in, we’re in! Derrick Evans is in the Capitol!” Evans said in the video.

Rosanne Boyland, second woman who died at Capitol, was Trump supporter who followed QAnon conspiracy
Rosanne Boyland was a recovering drug addict who wanted to become a sobriety counselor and also believed in the baseless QAnon conspiracy theories and that Trump had won the election, her family told The Associated Press.
I have seen videos of the woman who was shot and killed in the Capitol, as seen from two of three angles, and there is one thing that I would say, Scott, that you never say.
I don't think the policeman should have shot her. True, she was aggressively climbing through the broken out glass of a door that was barred, but shooting her was unjustified. That one woman was not that much of a threat to anyone.
Yet you have justified the shooting or garroting of black person after black person in circumstances that were far less threatening.
White House Forced U.S. Attorney In Atlanta to Resign
“White House officials pushed Atlanta’s top federal prosecutor to resign before Georgia’s U.S. Senate runoffs because President Trump was upset he wasn’t doing enough to investigate the president’s allegations of election fraud,” the Wall Street Journal reports.
Toomey Says Trump Committed Impeachable Offenses
Sen. Pat Toomey (R-PA) told Fox News that he thinks President Trump has “committed impeachable offenses.”

When Harris's kneecaps Joe, who will be her VP?

How are you going to recover from Trumpism?
The nutcases are attacking Republicans!
On Friday, supporters of Mr. Trump swarmed Senator Lindsey Graham, Republican of South Carolina, at his gate at Ronald Reagan National Airport, calling him a “traitor.”
“You know it was rigged, you know it was rigged,” a woman yelled as he was ushered away by a security detail. “You garbage human being. It’s going to be like this forever, wherever you go, for the rest of your life.”
A similar scene unfolded Tuesday night in the Salt Lake City airport as Senator Mitt Romney, Republican of Utah, sat waiting to fly to Washington. A maskless woman approached and called him a “disgusting shame” for not standing with the president. Once on board, Mr. Romney was greeted by supporters of Mr. Trump chanting “Traitor!”
If President Biden can deliver the vaccines fast enough to save thousands of lives, and recover from the depression!

What Trump Did Today
9:30 pm
Washington Post:
“Trump remained out of sight Saturday, and unnaturally silent. Twitter had permanently revoked his account on Friday evening, removing his accustomed direct broadcast system to nearly 90 million followers.
“Trump spent much of the day Saturday railing about Twitter taking his account, according to two officials.
The president has not said anything about the five people who died in the attack,
including a Capitol Police officer,
nor has he moved to lower the flags of the U.S. government in their honor.
He does not plan to make that order and has complained to advisers that he is being treated unfairly.”
Poor, poor pitiful Trump. It's all about him, he thinks, and he just can't understand why the entire nation is not standing up and applauding his foolishly failed attempt to do away with democracy in America.
As Jane goes full on Drama Queen.
Quote of the Day
10:00 pm
“I don’t care if it’s one hour left, let’s impeach him,”
— Rep, James Clyburn (D-SC), in a USA Today interview.
WHOA! WHAT? !!!!!!!!!!
PENCE HAS NOT RULED OUT 25th AMENDMENT
8:18 pm
“Vice President Mike Pence has not ruled out an effort to invoke the 25th Amendment and wants to preserve the option in case President Trump becomes more unstable,” CNN reports.
“The source said there is some concern inside Pence’s team that there are risks to invoking the 25th Amendment or even to an impeachment process, as Trump could take some sort of rash action putting the nation at risk.”
AND YET, THERE SEEMS TO BE ENOUGH DANGER FOR PENCE TO KEEP THE OPTION OF THE 25TH OPEN!!! WOW!
Riot Was More Violent Than It First Appeared
9:00 pm
“News outlets are publishing more and more videos, photos and testimonials from Wednesday’s pro-Trump riot on Capitol Hill. And it’s becoming clear that as heinous as the attack looked in real time, on live TV and in our social feeds, it was even worse than we knew then,” CNN reports.
“It was even more violent.
It was even more treacherous.
And Trump’s behavior was even more disturbing.”
This Isn’t Over
8:56 pm
Seth Masket says political scientists warned us that something like insurrection at the U.S. Capitol would happen.
“Since 2015, we’ve been warning about the dangers he posed. Not because of the policies he advocated, but because of the threats he posed to American democracy…”
“Here’s another warning: This isn’t over. Maybe there will be more violence between now and Joe Biden’s inauguration, maybe not. But the forces that created Wednesday’s violence are still very much active and pose a significant threat to American democracy. The next time this crops up, let’s not say this can’t happen here. It already has, and it’s still happening.”
WHAT?
Trump Wants Giuliani and Dershowitz to Defend Him

It’s worth remembering that this Senate trial is almost certain to take place after he is out of office.
Diplomats Call for Consultations on Trump’s Removal
8:00 pm
“Career officials at the State Department filed a second unprecedented dissent cable condemning President Trump for inciting the violent mob that stormed the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6 and urging top administration officials to consider invoking the 25th Amendment to remove him from office,” Foreign Policy reports.
“The dissent cable is the second such cable sent to Secretary of State Mike Pompeo this week, reflecting widespread shock and anger in the diplomatic corps at Trump’s actions and Pompeo’s own response to the political crisis.”
Family of Capitol Rioter Who Died Blames Trump
7:46 pm
The grieving family of a woman who died in Wednesday’s riot at the Capitol is blaming Donald Trump for her death, saying the 43-year-old got caught up in the president’s lies about election fraud and it “cost her her life,” the AP reports.
HAS TRUMP EVEN TRIED TO CALL HER FAMILY?
Trump Stews In the White House
7:44 pm
President Trump at one point in the White House on Friday “literally yelled” the words, “I’M NOT GOING TO RESIGN,”
before launching into a tirade about how Democratic lawmakers will regret their push to impeach him a second time,
and that they are hurting “the country” by doing so, the Daily Beast reports.
“According to two sources with knowledge of the matter, the president and several close advisers are now discussing the possibility of Trump sitting for multiple media interviews in the coming days, in an attempt to boast about his time in office.”
Amazon Boots Parler Off Of Its Web Hosting Service

Amazon on Saturday kicked Parler off its Web hosting services, which means that unless it can find another host, once the ban takes effect on Sunday Parler will go offline, BuzzFeed News reports.
Arizona Republicans Censure Cindy McCain
8:24 pm
The Maricopa County Republican Committee voted Saturday to censure Cindy McCain, calling the longtime Republican a “troubled individual” who has supported “leftist” causes and candidates who run counter to conservative values, the Arizona Republic reports.
Apple Pulls Parler from App Store
8:03 pm
New York Times: “Over the past several months, Parler has become one of the fastest-growing apps in the United States. Millions of President Trump’s supporters have flocked to it as Facebook and Twitter increasingly cracked down on posts that spread misinformation and incited violence, including muzzling Mr. Trump by removing his accounts this past week. By Saturday morning, Apple listed Parler as the No. 1 free app for its iPhones.
“But hours later, Apple said it had removed Parler from its App Store. Google had made a similar move a day earlier.”
Pelosi Ties Rioters’ Actions to ‘Whiteness’
7:55 pm
Speaker Nancy Pelosi is accusing the Trump supporters who rioted in the Capitol this week of choosing “their whiteness over democracy,” the AP reports.
Said Pelosi: “It has been an epiphany for the world to see that there are people in our country led by this president, for the moment, who have chosen their whiteness over democracy.”
Pence Will Attend Biden Inauguration
7:53 pm
Vice President Mike Pence will attend the inauguration of President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris, NBC News reports.
Armed Protestors Gather at Kentucky Capitol
7:50 pm
“Days after a mob of pro-Trump supporters stormed the U.S. Capitol, dozens of heavily armed people gathered outside the Kentucky Capitol building Saturday to rail against socialism, communism, U.S. Sen. Rand Paul, U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell and Gov. Andy Beshear,” the Lexington Herald Leader reports.
Beshear denounced the protesters on Twitter, saying he wouldn’t be bullied.
A Trump Media Empire Seems Unlikely
7:39 pm
Jack Shafer:
“It makes sense that Trump would want to build his own impregnable forum where nobody can police his speech.
He maintains his base by communicating with it at all hours of the day and night.
He desperately wants to maintain that continuity to preserve the momentum he has achieved over the past four years.
He rightly worries that his pack will ditch him for someone more compelling or entertaining, ergo, he needs to lay plans now or face oblivion.
“But then as now, the business challenges to launching a TV channel or other high-profile media property seem beyond the talents, resources and patience of Trump and his crew. This isn’t to predict that Trump won’t enter the media business, only to record that if he does, he won’t get very far.”
Another Senator Demands Hawley and Cruz Resign
7:25 pm
Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) joined calls on Saturday for Republican Sens. Josh Hawley (R-MO) and Ted Cruz (R-TX)) to resign after they supported objections to the 2020 Electoral College results on Wednesday.
Said Brown:
“If they do not resign, the Senate must expel them.”
White House Forced U.S. Attorney In Atlanta to Resign
4:47 pm
“White House officials pushed Atlanta’s top federal prosecutor to resign before Georgia’s U.S. Senate runoffs because President Trump was upset he wasn’t doing enough to investigate the president’s allegations of election fraud,” the Wall Street Journal reports.
New GOP Congressman Says His Colleagues Were Lying
11:38 pm
Rep. Peter Meijer (R–MI), the Republican successor to the retiring Libertarian Justin Amash, told Reason he blamed many of his Republican colleagues for the violence at the U.S. Capitol this week because they misled the rioters.
Said Meijer:
“They were being lied to. They were being misled. Some of my colleagues in Congress, they share responsibility for that. Many of them were fundraising off of this Stop the Steal grift.”
He added:
“I don’t understand how you can look in the mirror and go to sleep at night without that weighing on your conscience, I fundamentally do not. I’m just at a loss for words about how some of them have acted in ways that are just knowingly, provably false. And they know they’re lying, too.”
