When did the term disinformation start to mean something it doesn't?

Disinformation: false information which is intended to mislead, especially propaganda issued by a government organization to a rival power or the media.

So apparently many of our legislatures are in favor of stepping up and tweaking the Section 230 legislation regarding social media sites. However, rather than require them to follow the laws as they exist within the context of the first amendment, the concept would be to implement new "requirements" that these social media platforms all monitor the user content for disinformation and hate speech. In other words, some in Congress want Twitter and Facebook to double down on their censorship and demand that others follow suit.

Of course the idea seems to be to lump pretty much everything displeasurable to a certain group of people into one category in order eliminate it. If your opinions do not correlate with these thought police, well then you are just out of luck. Some of the Democratic lawmakers have already targeted certain "groups" that social media must ban to stop the spread of misinformation. Obviously no groups have the distinction of being always truthful or always deceitful, so what would be proposed would more more censorship of "people" rather than actually monitoring anything for content.

The reality is that "truth" and "fact" are no longer being treated as they have always been defined. Even the very concept that mathematical constants like 2+2=4 are now being questioned by the new wave of uncritical thinkers who believe that absolute truths and actual accepted facts are pillars of a bygone "white society". Apparently truth and fact must now be filtered based on who might be offended and whether or not certain people are capable of grasping things. If something is too complicated for certain people to understand, then we (as a society) are responsible for accepting what they give us for an answer. The concept of right or wrong (as we understand it) should be replaced with an understanding that technical facts are unnecessary and often times racist. Tell that to an engineer at NASA.

But what do we define as truth or disinformation? I read this in CNN today:
Biden has put his foot on the gas for Covid vaccinations, radically ramping up vaccination rates despite, as he said in the town hall, inheriting a situation where virtually nothing was set up and there really was no plan.

This is clearly disinformation being spread ad nauseum by certain members of the media. The concept that no plan was in place has been debunked by everyone involved. In fact, the rollout of the vaccine was averaging approximately a million doses a day, and had hit 1.5 million on the final day of the Trump Presidency. As it stands, there has not been any notable improvement in that number and in fact the number of vaccinations under Trump had already surpassed the promised goals that Biden had provided (100 million doses in 100 days) that he would accomplish. This can quite literally be proven by real live statistics and numbers. If you want an example of "disinformation" it is these same media hacks who take the talking points of the Democratic Party and treat is as more credible than actual reality and factual statistics.

The question becomes is it "disinformation" to state a fact, simply because that fact runs counter to what some want to believe or because that particular fact offends certain people and their sensibilities? While logical people would suggest no, the concept of logic seems to escape those who want to banish "disinformation" as it exists in their mind.  eg: Those who provide real life statistical analysis regarding the 2020 election are routinely flagged as providing disinformation by people who have quite literally done nothing to show that their analysis is wrong. They simply don't like what they see, it makes them uncomfortable, and because it might upset their own narrative, they want it banned.

Such is the case in many of these arguments over disinformation. The entire narrative that there was "nothing to see" in the 2020 election is 100% disinformation as defined by anyone who still believes that disinformation means something that isn't accurate. It only exists as the truth by those who push the narrative and look to squelch any and all opposing facts, analysis, research, investigation, or opinion.

The irony is that those who are quickest to demand that certain things be censored or banned because they are labeled to be "disinformation" are generally asking that factual things be censored and banned in order to protect unfounded narratives (that under more normal circumstances would be seen as disinformation).

Scott questions the above. So I guess he considers that to be mere "propaganda."

So was it mere propaganda when Trump said twenty million would be vaccinated by the end of December, but only four million (IF that many) were?

Would that be an example of "virtually" nothing having been set up, or there not "really" being a plan to validate Trump's promise?

Is Scott providing disinformation in an attempt to "protect unfounded narratives" of Trump?

Nobody, in the government wants to banish "disinformation" as it exists in their mind. Since you live in an alternate reality universe you can't comprehend that private publisher can deny some people who are spreading false information

Twitter and Facebook are permitted to double down on their censorship and demand that others follow suit under the first amendment.

If Some of the Democratic lawmakers actually try to targeted certain "groups" and demand that social media must ban to stop the spread of misinformation, The United States Supreme Court would declare it anti Constitutional.

The distribution of the vaccine speed is being affected by the weather conditions across 30% of the population.

It seems that you wish the Fairness Doctrine should be considered to use on the internet.

If it happened, the party in power would be able to control private companies like Facebook and Twitter and Instagram, etc..

Freedom of speech has a price on opinions, false or not.

The Founding fathers put the freedom of speech as the first amendment for a reason.

“Mr. Trump may not be fully aware of shifting currents among congressional Republicans. More members now admit privately that Mr. Trump had no coattails in last fall’s election.

"Especially in the suburbs, some Republicans and many GOP-leaning independents refused to take his lawn signs or support him.

"That’s why so many Republican congressional candidates ran ahead of the former president.

“Mr. Trump crowed Tuesday that he 'received the most votes of any sitting President in history.'

"Then again, Joe Biden received more votes than any candidate in history—and seven million more votes than Mr. Trump.

“Despite possessing all the powers of incumbency and leading a united GOP, Mr. Trump lost the presidency.

Here is a simple question for you Roger?

Do you believe the CDC and all relevant data tracking that suggests that at the end of the Trump term that approximately 1 million doses were going out daily and that the number was actually 1.5 million doses on his last day.

Or do you believe what Biden and Harris said. Which is that there was no structure in place and that they had to start from scratch just to reach Biden's goal of 100 million doses in 100 days?

It's a simple concept. Do you believe the numbers or the political rhetoric?

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

Karl Rove was the architect of the election of President George Bush.

Donald Trump presumably liked it when Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell voted to acquit him because the senator believes impeachment of a former president is unconstitutional. But Mr. Trump had a very different reaction to Mr. McConnell’s floor speech Saturday, when he rightly said the former president was “practically and morally responsible for provoking” the Jan. 6 assault on the Capitol and for failing to denounce the violence while it was under way.

On Tuesday afternoon Mr. Trump attacked Mr. McConnell at length, insulting him as a “dour, sullen, and unsmiling political hack” who lacked “political insight, wisdom, skill, and personality” and “doesn’t have what it takes, never did, and never will.” That was reportedly the toned-down version.

OPINION: POTOMAC WATCH

Trump's Acquittal and the GOP Future.

Mr. Trump’s aides may high-five each other over their rhetorical excesses, but they’ll never convince Mr. McConnell’s Democratic adversaries or Republican senatorial admirers that Mr. Trump’s slurs are accurate. (Though some might concede Mr. McConnell is something less than a sparkling conversationalist at dinner parties.)

Since the Senate’s first meeting in March 1789, only a handful of leaders have demonstrated a mastery of the upper chamber that matches the bespectacled Kentuckian’s. His achievements are legion, including skillfully maneuvering Mr. Trump’s legislative accomplishments and judicial appointments through the Senate.
- Exactly correct

The former president also said Mr. McConnell lacked “credibility on China because of his family’s Chinese business holdings.” This smear was aimed at Mr. McConnell’s wife, Elaine Chao, whose Taiwanese-American family runs a shipping company active in the Pacific. Neither Ms. Chao nor Mr. McConnell owns stock in the New York-based business and, it’s worth noting, Mr. Trump wasn’t concerned about all this when he made Ms. Chao his transportation secretary.

In his statement, Mr. Trump even blamed Mr. McConnell for losing two Georgia Senate seats in Jan. 5 runoffs because the senator had endorsed $600 stimulus checks rather than matching the Democrats’ offer of $2,000. Nice try, but Mr. Trump’s own Treasury secretary floated the $600 stimulus check idea on Dec. 8. Instead of stopping him, Mr. Trump waited until after Republicans had lined up behind his administration’s proposal to announce, on Dec. 22, that he supported $2,000 checks. The Georgia Republican senators looked like contortionists as they fell in behind the president’s last-minute change of mind.

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

Mr. Trump lost those Georgia seats by making his campaign appearances there not about the need for checks and balances on the incoming Biden administration, but instead about his rage over losing the presidential election. As a FiveThirtyEight analysis found, “The better Trump did in a county in November, the more its turnout tended to drop in the runoffs.” Enough of the former president’s most fervent supporters believed him that Georgia elections were rigged and determined it wasn’t worth voting. The result? Democrats won both races and control of the Senate.

In suggesting that Senate Republicans oust Mr. McConnell, Mr. Trump is setting himself up for defeat. Mr. McConnell won’t be removed and replaced with a Trump toady. The former president’s screed will leave him appearing weaker while the Kentucky senator shows that Friedrich Nietzsche (and Kelly Clarkson ) was right: What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.

Mr. Trump may not be fully aware of shifting currents among congressional Republicans. More members now admit privately that Mr. Trump had no coattails in last fall’s election. Especially in the suburbs, some Republicans and many GOP-leaning independents refused to take his lawn signs or support him. That’s why so many Republican congressional candidates ran ahead of the former president.

Mr. Trump crowed Tuesday that he “received the most votes of any sitting President in history.” Then again, Joe Biden received more votes than any candidate in history—and seven million more votes than Mr. Trump.

Despite possessing all the powers of incumbency and leading a united GOP, Mr. Trump lost the presidency. If he returned for another White House contest, leading a divided party at war with itself and out of power, he’d be wiped out. in a landslide

Mr. Trump should now be focused not on settling scores, but on healing, uniting and expanding the GOP. Politics is about addition, not subtraction. So next time his crackerjack wordsmiths suggest a thermonuclear attack on other Republicans, Mr. Trump ought to let the one-day story that provoked them go away on its own. But then he wouldn’t be Donald Trump, would he?

Mr. Rove

If you download the materials you will find that they push back on the very concept of objective answers: "the belief that there is such a thing as being objective or neutral"

and they are encouraged to "identify and challenge the ways that math is used to uphold capitalist, imperialist, and racist views."

and provides: "The framework for deconstructing racism in mathematics offers essential characteristics of antiracist math educators and critical approaches to dismantling white supremacy in math classrooms by visualizing the toxic characteristics of white supremacy culture,"

To be clear: This is ACTUALLY where it has gone above and beyond just being a "theory" that is being discussed and promoted by teachers and even college professors everywhere... but where the Government is looking to step in and force Math teachers to change how they teach math.

Last time I checked... as someone with a math minor, math hasn't actually changed. I am not sure I am following your argument?

It certainly sounds like you have zero proof that the CDC or the 50 states tracking the doses were wrong in what they reported, much less that they did so as a matter of disinformation (why would anyone fake these numbers)?

But because Joe and Kamala said something different, you basically refuse to take the numbers at face value... and demand that it's okay not only for them to use political rhetoric (disinformation) - but that you openly admit that their rhetoric LITERALLY makes you question the "real" numbers that have been objectively reported by multiple sources.

You spent months sending false messages allegations of masking.

Quick Take

Evidence of the efficacy of face masks to help control the spread of the novel coronavirus has grown since the start of the pandemic. But a Facebook video, viewed tens of thousands of times, uses false and misleading claims to tell viewers that masks are “unsafe” and “ineffective.”

This image from the National Institute of Standards and Technology illustrates airflow when coughing with and without a mask. Credit: M. Staymates/N. Hanacek/NIST

Full Story

A Missouri-based chiropractor — who has been previously warned by federal officials to stop spreading misleading content regarding unproven COVID-19 treatments — is now wrongly telling Facebook users that face masks have been proven “unsafe” and “ineffective.”

In a Feb. 11 video live-streamed on Facebook and viewed more than 70,000 times, Eric Nepute rattles off a list of 20 arguments against wearing face masks — claiming, for example, that they cause cavities and “facial deformities” and increase the chances of contracting the novel coronavirus that causes COVID-19.

But many of Nepute’s claims are false, misleading or unsupported. And a central takeaway — that masks are “ineffective” — is rebuffed by recent evidence to the contrary.

Two doctors at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recently summarized the growing evidence that masks can help to control community spread of the virus. In a piece for the Journal of the American Medical Association, they wrote: “Compelling data now demonstrate that community mask wearing is an effective nonpharmacologic intervention to reduce the spread of this infection, especially as source control to prevent spread from infected persons, but also as protection to reduce wearers’ exposure to infection.”

Rather than cite credible research on masks, Nepute largely adapted his claims from a January post on the website of the Canada-based Centre for Research on Globalization. That website has pushed conspiracy theories about the 9/11 terrorist attacks and other topics; a recent State Department report said the website “has been a steady source of anti-U.S. and anti-Western disinformation and propaganda ever since” its 2001 debut.

For his part, Nepute has spread unsound advice before, drawing the scrutiny of the Federal Trade Commission. The FTC in May sent a letter warning Nepute that he was unlawfully advertising products and services — including chiropractic care and intravenous vitamin therapy — to treat or prevent COVID-19. The letter advised him to “immediately cease making all such claims.”

Throughout Nepute’s 24-minute video about masks, he repeatedly urges viewers to visit his website for vitamins while presenting the faulty claims about face masks — and later, COVID-19 vaccines and more.

Here, we’ll fact-check a few of the claims in the video.

Roger - the websites from from the various Oregon Offices of Education providing actual policy. They were not "right wing websites" making any claims. If you had bothered to go to them, you would see what I am talking about.

You can literally download the programs that they are promoting their teachers to teach. These are not "claims" or "rumors" at this point. These are literally people in charge of public education promoting educational instruction that claims math to be racist and built from a white society.

You can stick your head in the sand and make whatever claims you want... but you just look stupid doing so.

C.H. Truth said...

There are also multiple teachers organizations that are promoting the same exact agenda. You can find them all over twitter and other social media sites, and they include teachers from grade school up to college professors.

This is a real thing being promoted by real people and it is now moving from just an idea to having actual education boards wanting to implement it.

I found the source of your opinion.

JOHN HINDERAKER IN EDUCATION, RACE

WHY MATH IS RACIST

This is actually a claim that is being made often these days: the sciences in general, and math in particular, are racist. The latest comes from Oregon:

The Oregon Department of Education (ODE) recently encouraged teachers to register for training that encourages “ethnomathematics” and argues, among other things, that White supremacy manifests itself in the focus on finding the right answer.

An ODE newsletter sent last week advertises a Feb. 21 “Pathway to Math Equity Micro-Course,” which is designed for middle school teachers to make use of a toolkit for “dismantling racism in mathematics.”

How can mathematics possibly be racist?

Part of the toolkit includes a list of ways “white supremacy culture” allegedly “infiltrates math classrooms.” Those include “the focus is on getting the ‘right’ answer,” students being “required to ‘show their work,'” and other alleged manifestations.

“The concept of mathematics being purely objective is unequivocally false, and teaching it is even much less so,” the document for the “Equitable Math” toolkit reads. “Upholding the idea that there are always right and wrong answers perpetuate objectivity as well as fear of open conflict.”

I think that failing to do one’s homework and study for tests is racist. Of course, we all know what groups such attacks on “objectivity” and “getting the right answer” are intended to benefit:

ODE Communications Director Marc Siegel also defended the “Equitable Math” educational program, saying it “helps educators learn key tools for engagement, develop strategies to improve equitable outcomes for Black, Latinx, and multilingual students, and join communities of practice.”

Liberals believe that scientific and mathematical talent are distributed unequally "because they are correct "among the races, with Asians being well-endowed in those areas, and blacks below average. Therefore, it is appropriate to discriminate against Asians and to lower standards for blacks–e.g., by pretending that it is unimportant to get the right answer to a math problem.

Are they right? I doubt it. Shelby Steele made the opposite case in an interview in yesterday’s Wall Street Journal:

[Steele] points to affirmative action and diversity—“the whole movement designed to compensate for the fact that blacks were behind”—and says that blacks today have worse indices relative to whites in education, income levels, marriage and divorce, or “any socioeconomic measure that you want to look at” than they did 60 years ago.

“It’s inconceivable,” says Mr. Steele, “that blacks are competitive in universities today.” In the 1950s, by contrast, they matriculated with slightly lower grade-point averages than whites and graduated with GPAs slightly higher than whites. “Nobody gave them anything,” Mr. Steele affirms. “They didn’t want them in universities then. We would never put our race on an application, because it would be used against us. The minute we started to get all these handouts from guilty America in the civil-rights era, we entered this uninterrupted decline.”
____"These people want to stop public schools because they hate unions.

I suppose it would be possible to come up with a better plan to destroy black academic performance than by telling black students not to worry about getting the right answer to a math problem, but I can’t think what it would be.

I also read the other articles by the education departments .

The students are not being told to not answer 2+2=4.

A Pathway to Equitable Math Instruction is an integrated approach to mathematics that centers Black, Latinx, and Multilingual students in grades 6-8, addresses barriers to math equity, and aligns instruction to grade-level priority standards. The Pathway offers guidance and resources for educators to use now as they plan their curriculum, while also offering opportunities for ongoing self-reflection as they seek to develop an anti-racist math practice. The toolkit “strides” serve as multiple on-ramps for educators as they navigate the individual and collective journey from equity to anti-racism.

how in the ever loving FUCK could math possibly be viewed as "RAY-CISS!!!"???

if there was ever any doubt that liberalism is a mental illness, well... that science is SETTLED.

From a friend described how I feel about going forward without the former.

I’m exhausted from criticizing the former presidency these last four years, and I'm ready to just move on - I mean, to be fair, he really wasn't that bad, other than that time he:
1. Incited an insurrection against the government
2. Mismanaged a pandemic that killed nearly half a million Americans
3. Separated children from their families and then lost track of them.
4. Tear-gassed peaceful protesters on Lafayette Square so he could hold a photo op holding a Bible in front of a church.
5. Tried to block all Muslims from entering the country
6. Got impeached...TWICE
7. Became the only president in 80 years to have a net job loss.
8. Fired the FBI director for investigating his ties to Russia
9. Took Vladimir Putin’s word over the US intelligence community
10. Diverted military funding to build his wall (barely)
11. Caused the longest government shutdown in US history
12. Called Black Lives Matter a “symbol of hate”
13. Lied nearly 30,000 times - more DOCUMENTED lies than any other person who ever lived.
14. Banned transgender people from serving in the military
15. Ejected reporters from the White House briefing room who asked tough questions
16. Vetoed the defense funding bill because it renamed military bases that had been named for Confederate figures.
17. Refused to release his tax returns after promising to do so if elected.
18. Increased the national debt by nearly $8 trillion for no good reason - by cutting taxes on the wealthy and making no gains in infrastructure, education, or environmental issues.
19. Had three of the highest annual trade deficits in U.S. history
20. Referred to veterans and soldiers who died in WWII as losers and suckers
21. Coddled the leader of Saudi Arabia after he ordered the execution and dismembering of a US-based journalist
22. Refused to concede the 2020 election, which was one of the most secure in history.
23. Called neo-Nazis “very fine people”

27. Called Haiti and African nations “shithole” countries
28. Forced his Cabinet members to praise him publicly
29. Berated and belittled his hand-picked Attorney General when he recused himself from the Russia probe
30. Colluded with Mitch McConnell to push through federal judges and two Supreme Court justices after supporting efforts to prevent his predecessor from appointing judges
31. Repeatedly called the media “enemies of the people” (like dictators in history)
32. Claimed that if we tested fewer people for COVID we’d have fewer cases
33. Violated the emoluments clause many times since day one.
34. Told Bob Woodward in private that the coronavirus was a big deal but then downplayed it in public
35. Called his ever-faithful vice president a “pussy” for following the Constitution, and threw him to the wolves on Jan 6
36. Nominated corrupt heads of the EPA, the HHS, the Interior Department, and the USDA, apparently in a swamp-draining effort.
37. Refused to allow the presidential transition to begin, endangering the security of the country.
38. Insulted war hero John McCain – even after his death
39. Golfed more than 300 times after having repeatedly criticized Obama, who played less than half that number of times in his first term
40. Falsely claimed that he won the 2016 popular vote, that he turned down being Time’s Man of the Year, and that COVID would “magically” disappear

CNN Reinstates the Ban on Fredo Cuomo Covering Sonny Cuomo, Reversing Its Previous "Suspending" of the Same Ban

So first, Fredo was not allowed to cover his mafia don brother Sonny, because that's an obvious conflict of interest.

Then, because Sonny was being used by the left as a political weapon against Trump, CNN suspended that rule, because, let's face it, no one on CNN was going to cover Sonny any less affectionately than his own brother. It's not like Fake Jake Tapper was going to ask about the nursing home murders.

Now that Democrats are talking about impeaching Sonny, CNN says the ban's back on.

This isn't done for purposes of journalistic hygeine.

This is to provide Fredo with an excuse for not covering his brothers' mass-killings or the current FBI investigation into them.

CNN claimed Wednesday that it has reinstated a "rule" that prevents Chris Cuomo from "interviewing or covering his brother" -- after the host completely ignored the nursing home death cover-up scandal engulfing Gov. Andrew Cuomo.
Last year, Chris Cuomo repeatedly interviewed his older brother about the coronavirus pandemic, engaging in often-cringey banter that initially helped boost the ratings for the 9 p.m. "Cuomo Prime Time."

But the controversy over the Cuomo administration's admitted cover-up of nursing home death numbers -- exclusively revealed by The Post last week --hasn't been mentioned on Chris's hour-long show.

...

In a prepared statement, a CNN spokesperson said, "The early months of the pandemic crisis were an extraordinary time. We felt that Chris speaking with his brother about the challenges of what millions of American families were struggling with was of significant human interest."

"As a result, we made an exception to a rule that we have had in place since 2013 which prevents Chris from interviewing and covering his brother, and that rule remains in place today. CNN has covered the news surrounding Governor Cuomo extensively," the statement added.

The network didn't respond to a question asking when Gov. Cuomo was again banned from his brother's show.

This is all Integrity Theater. The rest of CNN covered up this story until this week, and only began covering it because the Democrat Party they all belong to gave them permission to cover it, by talking about impeaching Cuomo.

And even since they started "covering" it, it's still very soft coverage, considering we're talking about the calculated murder of thousands.

But they can't cover it too much -- three other Democrat governors also made the murderous decision to seed the nursing homes with covid: Murphy of NJ, Wolfe of Pennsylvania, and the Witch of Michigan.

And they can't cover it too much because it would lead to uncomfortable questions that CNN doesn't want to answer, like: What stopped you from covering this story for the entire past year (well, since March 25, 2020), apart from, 1, campaigning for a Democrat win in November and 2, not having yet gotten permission from the Democrat Party that you serve to cover it?

An airplane or rocket might go wayward because of "ethnomathemiatics" but never-mind, it was the politically correct answer.

Come to think it there is nothing more racist than saying non-white people can't master mathematics because it's somehow bias towards whites. Math is math no matter what color you are.

Rather than the ODE teach black children they are not smart enough to master mathematics, they should show the movie "Hidden Numbers". A movie about a group of black women who manage to master the highest form of mathematics. Believe or not they were called "computers". And when electronic computers threaten to replace them, they learned to program it by teaching themselves FORTRAN.

They did this in an era where black people couldn't use the same bathroom or drinking fountain with whites.

That is what I would show them. Not only are the smart enough to learn math but courageous enough to overcome ignorance.

In the Real Clear Politics summary of all polling, as of Tuesday morning, President Biden’s favorable rating was 54.7 percent while his unfavorable rating was only 36.5 percent. Comparable favorable and unfavorable ratings for former President Trump, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) and House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) no doubt keep many prominent Republicans up late at night, worried for good reason.

The most important policy issue in America right now is that the highly popular Biden is now championing a highly popular COVID-19 health and economic relief bill, currently valued at $1.9 trillion. In most polling this urgently needed bill is favored by about two-thirds of the American people. It will increase the amount promised to $2,000

Voters know that Biden is very sincere calling for bipartisanship to enact this bill. The politically smart move for Republicans would be offer a good faith proposal to tailor and target the bill, to somewhat but not dramatically lower the cost, while agreeing to keep the core of the bill intact. In this case both parties would share credit with voters.

If Republicans do not make this move, Democrats will pass the bill by majority vote through the reconciliation process. Biden and Democrats would then receive credit for the strong recovery that is surely coming long before the 2022 midterm elections, when Republicans will be reduced to economic bystanders while they attack each other, day after day, week after week, in vicious GOP primaries all across the nation.

By contrast: Countless millions of Americans need, and want, $1,400 relief checks targeted to those who need them. "Welfare queens" Americans need, and want, dramatic new assistance to support far more vaccinations. Americans need, and want, extended unemployment compensation. Americans need, and want, aid for state and local governments to employ police, fire fighters, health care workers, teachers and many others.

Do Republicans want to defund police and fire fighters by refusing to help state and local governments? If they don't vote for the bill, the Democrats will use it against the "law and order " Republican party.

Biden postponed a trip to Michigan, where he planned to tour a Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine manufacturing facility, and the White House declared an 8 a.m. “lid” for reporters — meaning there would be no in-person events.

The president’s trip to Portage, Michigan, was preemptively canceled Wednesday evening before any precipitation fell in Washington.

The early White House “lid” meant a 12:30 p.m. briefing with White House press secretary Jen Psaki was conducted by phone.

Since the start of the pandemic last spring, Asian Americans have faced racist violence at a much higher rate than previous years. The NYPD reported that hate crimes motivated by anti-Asian sentiment jumped 1,900% in New York City in 2020. Stop AAPI Hate, a reporting database created at the beginning of the pandemic as a response to the increase in racial violence, received 2,808 reports of anti-Asian discrimination between March 19 and December 31, 2020. The violence has continued into 2021, and President Joe Biden signed an executive order denouncing anti-Asian discrimination shortly after taking office in January. While anti-Asian violence has taken place nationwide and particularly in major cities, the uptick in attacks in 2021 has been particularly focused in the Bay Area, especially in San Francisco and Oakland’s Chinatowns.

Read More: 10 Asian Americans Reflect on Racism During the Pandemic and the Need for Equality

Many attribute the 2020 uptick to the xenophobic rhetoric of Biden’s predecessor; former President Trump repeatedly referred to COVID-19 as “the China virus,” blaming the country for the pandemic. In doing so, Trump followed in a long American history of using diseases to justify anti-Asian xenophobia, one that dates back to the 19th and 20th centuries and has helped to shape perception of Asian Americans as “perpetual foreigners.”

Then-President Trump speaks at a rally in front of the White House before his supporters stormed the Capitol on Jan. 6. (Evan Vucci / Associated Press)
To the editor: Here is one sure sign that many Republicans are ready to ditch their party's Trump brand: We no longer see or hear "Keep America Great," the pious slogan that evolved during former President Trump's tenure and appeared on his supporters' hats and flags until late last year. ("GOP grapples with future in Congress and beyond after Trump impeachment trial," Feb. 14)

After Trump's bungled handling of the pandemic and his incitement of the deadly Capitol insurrection, the GOP is hard-pressed to claim that Trump's reign restored American greatness.

So Trump and his allies are back to favoring "Make America Great Again," as if that same old demagogic song might re-create the GOP's 2016 success in upcoming elections.

Wisconsin GOP senator downplays attack on U.S. Capitol
Mon, February 15, 2021, 6:08 PM
MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Wisconsin's Republican U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson downplayed the storming of the U.S. Capitol last month, saying on conservative talk radio Monday that it “didn't seem like an armed insurrection to me.”

Johnson's comments on WISN-AM in Milwaukee came after he voted Saturday to acquit former President Donald Trump in his second impeachment trial. Johnson said in the interview that Trump's attorneys “eviscerated” legal arguments made by Democrats seeking to convict Trump for instigating the insurrection.

Johnson is one of Trump's most ardent supporters. He is up for reelection in 2022 but hasn't said yet whether he will seek a third term.

Johnson condemned the violence and five deaths during the Jan. 6 riot but said what happened was not an armed insurrection.

“When you hear the word ‘armed,’ don’t you think of firearms?" Johnson said. "Here’s the questions I would have liked to ask — how many firearms were confiscated? How many shots were fired? I’m only aware of one, and I’ll defend that law enforcement officer for taking that shot. It was a tragedy, but I think there was only one. If that was a planned armed insurrection, man, you had really a bunch of idiots.”

LOL. "snot bubble toddler fit":

KRUISER’S MORNING BRIEF:

Trump Derangement Syndrome Hits Pathetic New Low. “Now that the Democrats have failed to keep Trump from running for president again they’re living in abject terror of him returning in 2024 and ruining their long term ugly designs on the United States. Couple that with the fact that they can’t really sing Biden’s praises and it’s easy to see that we’re in for a few more years of this snot bubble toddler fit of theirs.”

IF only Roger knew anything about stocks, quarters, reporting dates, ex-dividend dates, payout dates and basically the things I taught in College and to my then pre-teen kids, he would not find so many rakes.
