Liberal Democrats are growing more and more worried that the Senate will serve as a legislative graveyard for President Biden’s agenda unless he and other centrists rally behind doing away with the filibuster.
The tensions for now are mostly under the surface as the party approaches an initial victory under Biden: passage into law of a giant $1.9 trillion coronavirus relief bill.
“I believe and I believe my caucus believes that we need big, bold action, and we’re going to figure out the best way to get big, bold action on a whole lot of fronts,” Schumer said, vowing that “people are going to be forced to vote on them.”
But the White House on Tuesday sought to avoid the issue in some ways: Biden didn’t take questions from Democratic senators on Tuesday during a brief, eight-minute call to their weekly luncheon.I believe many in the Democratic Party are somewhat confused by what really happened in the last election. They barely won the Presidency over an unpopular incumbent. They failed to garner the outright majority in the Senate (many expected them to have 52 or 53 seats), and they lost seats in the House when they expected to gain (and now hold a razor thin advantage). On top of that, at least two of their Senators are on record as opposing any sort of legislative changes to the Senate Rules and there may be as many as five or six more who probably oppose if push comes to shove.
This Congress is as closely divided between Republicans and Democrats as we have seen in our lifetime. The obvious meaning behind that is that the country is divided and ultimately want to see something from both sides. The even more obvious manner for our Congress would move forward would be to attempt to compromise, not have one side figure out if there is a way to slam an unpopular agenda down everyone's throat.
So why do people like Chuck Schumer and others in the House seem tone deaf to this? Well it's likely that they see this as a last chance in a while to get any of this stuff done. Most first year Presidents loose bigly in their first mid-terms and it's entirely possible (if not probable) that the GOP will take back one or both chamber in 2022. Once that happens, pretty much everything that the Democrats want to push will be invalidated. Perhaps it is now or never?
Well when you have "bold" agenda ideas that primary focus on the wants and desires of your most rapid and most extreme followers, the time for that is not when you are looking at a closely divided Government. The time for that would be in a situation like we had in 2008 when the Democrats had won the Presidency by a large amount, won the House by a large amount, and held 59-60 seats in the Senate. That situation would have called for some more aggressive legislation.
But that is not what we have here. Schumer and the extremists need to understand and accept this.

The Democrats are not going to fall for the usual Republican bullshit on bipartisanship. How much bipartisanship has the GOP practiced for a long, long time?
No, this popular bill will be passed, and that is what is most important. The good results it brings will be the strongest argument that Biden and the Dems chose wisely.

Washington Post warns what easing Texas COVID-19 rules may do to rest if the country
The editorial board of The Washington Post joined the growing chorus of criticism being leveled at Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) on Tuesday after he announced the end of the state’s mask mandate and the imminent relaxation of other restrictions aimed at slowing the spread of the coronavirus.
In a scathing column, the newspaper’s board described the decision ― which comes as daily new infections plateau ― as “premature and reckless.”
Abbott was “gambling with the health of his state and beyond,” it said.
“The governor’s decision may cheer those feeling rebellious, fatigued and impatient with the year-long pandemic restrictions,” wrote the board. “But the result of opening too soon will be viral spread, and more suffering.”
“The winter holidays and the third surge were awful,” it concluded. “A fourth surge — which could spread beyond Texas — is the last thing the country needs just as vaccines are being rolled out. Mr. Abbott is throwing a match on kindling.”
Biden is also racing to get more schools opened,
but using reasonable means.
I don't think Greg Abbott gives one spit what the Washington Post editorial board says.

yeah, by following the political 'science' diktat of the scumbags in the teachers union.
racing. at a snails pace. LOL.
want to see racing pederast?
cut off their fucking paychecks. or better yet, fire them ALL.
then the actual 'racing' begins.
imbecile.
THWAP!!!
If Abbott's practices cause more cases and deaths,
people will sure care.
I don't think Greg Abbott gives one spit what the Washington Post editorial board says.
no sane, productive member of our society does.
the pederast and the alky need to continue to cower in fear. wearing 10 masks each.
Anything wrong with putting teachers in the front lines to get vaccinations?
Just like the Obama years....the GOP will do everything they can to torpedo every thing Biden tries to pass....You want the culture of cancel??? LOOK IN THE MIRROR LIL SCHITTY!!!!!! You and the enablers will impede everything that they don't think of and then blame Biden for being slow....You guys are just a group of white pigs who are losing your grip on making the country great....just support trump who wants to be PUTIN in the US!!!!!!!!
Jamie, you live in Illinois, coward in place, continue .
Look, problem solved.
Roger come out and play.
I love reading your post and correcting you.
What spectacularly asinine thing will Alky say today.
l 'science' diktat of the scumbags in the teachers union.
The brave mentally disabled rat who does not work in a school or in a crowd bravely opines out his ass as the brave asshole who has no skin in the game but can broadcast his fucked up views that the union is reacting out of line.....Dumb ass....the teachers are the union and they fear working at this point.....maybe you should volunteer and spent you day in school teaching GOP values!!!!! yep. a couple things come to mind. one, kids are resistant to the virus and are highly unlikely to transmit it.
two, put them at the front of the line, and then they'll find yet another bullshit reason to not resume teaching.
suspend their pay. if they do not return to the classroom within one pay period, FIRE THEM.
Jamie, ends slow Joe's "unity" bullshit.

The Democrats are not going to fall for the usual Republican bullshit on bipartisanship"
The losses by the dark winter President are stacking up like cord wood.
What Boehner thinks of Ted Cruise..... Same things can be said about rat and Lil Schitty who both firmly believe their Proud Boy shit don't stink!!!!!! BWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!
“There is nothing more dangerous than a reckless asshole who thinks he is smarter than everyone else,” Boehner wrote of Cruz, whom he once dubbed “Lucifer in the flesh.”
The former GOP leader, who left the House in 2015, issued a less-barbed dig for the twice-impeached former president: “He would call me fairly often when he first took office for advice or conversation. But the calls came in less and less as his tenure went on. That’s probably because he got more comfortable in the job. But I also suspect he just got tired of me advising him to shut up.”
Helping Roger in two things that confuses him, how long The Dark Winter President has been in office and what day today is.

You ignorant asshole....nothing could be more bullshit than that!!!!!!!!!!
"this popular bill will be passed" Jamie
with $2,000 promised payouts?
with $15 hours min wage?
It will pass without the minimum wage increases.
The Republicans will try and introduce amendments to slow down the approval, but because they don't have the votes, so by someday next week and the President will sign the bill and the country will survive the former's Insurrection and the economy will create millions of union jobs and again strengthen the middle class, that Saint Ronald Reagan destroyed with trickle down economics.
Alky, are you sticking to you prediction of Bidenomics will have the US Economy back to pre-pandemic levels by April 30th?
and the economy will create millions of union jobs and again strengthen the middle class
like magic.
with no regard to the laws of supply, demand, or basic economics.
these jobs will spring forth like to many dandelions on an unkempt lawn. fertilized by fairy dust and unicorn farts and watered with Slow Joe's drool.
angels will sing, trumpets will blare, and union cards will descend from the sky, fluttering into the hands of all these newly employed, already filled-in and signed. like the magic that created these jobs in the first place.
and Dr. Jill will place signs of rejoice on the White House lawn, like so many pink flamingoes in a trailer park.
and it will be good.
LOL.
THWAP!!!
Well Said RRB.
question on the covid bill -
it contains provisions and funding for abortion.
is it the policy of the Biden* regime to unilaterally and prematurely KILL soon to be Americans as part of a covid mitigation strategery? like, to kill them proactively before covid does?
help us out here alky. i'm just trying to take the parts of the bill that logic would dictate are completely unrelated to covid, and get them to pass the giggle test.
thanks alky.
Well Said RRB.
thanks, but on topics related to economics, there's really nothing left to do at this point but mock the alky.
harness the energy of his economic ignorance and you power the planet for a millennium.
The Dark Winter President is attacking Net worth and Retirement savings.
As he promised during his campaign.
"Mock the Alky"
He makes it easy with vapid declarations like this:
"the economy will create millions of union jobs "
like magic.
Like trumps 3% GDP and paying down the deficit to 0 in 3 years?????? Instead he left a shrinking economy, massive jobless and 500k fucking dead americans which the GOP counts as success!!!!!! BWAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!
Hi Dennis, Have a Great day.
The Home Depot raised the dividend by 10%, from $1.50 per share per qrt to $1.65 per share per art.

BROWNSVILLE, Texas — Miriam Izaguirre, a 35-year-old asylum-seeker from Honduras, crossed the Rio Grande at dawn Monday with her young son and turned herself in to the authorities.
A few hours later she was released, and the first thing she did was take a rapid test for Covid-19 at the Brownsville bus station. They told her her test came out positive.
"Right now we were tested for Covid and they separated about eight of us because we were positive," she told Noticias Telemundo Investiga. "We are waiting right now." She was waiting to catch a bus to Houston.
Other migrant families who also said they had tested positive were waiting to go to other destinations: North Carolina, Maryland and New Jersey.

Anything wrong with putting teachers in the front lines to get vaccinations?
They are here my bro in law suffered a heart attack a few years back. And as teacher he bumped higher to get the vax than his comorbidities

AND investigated him over Russia for nothing AND impeached him twice for no reason?
Big Majority Support Biden’s Relief Bill
A new Monmouth poll finds 62% of Americans support the $1.9 trillion Covid stimulus package currently making its way through Congress, while 34% oppose it.
The Economist says the package is “one of the most popular bills in decades.”
___________
Opposed by a former Prez who never even once managed to get up to 50% job approval, the only president of whom that may be said since polling began with Eisenhower.
