Biden strategy: Fuck up so much that fucking up becomes the accepted norm?

One stunning afternoon: Setbacks imperil Biden’s reset
On Friday, the Pentagon acknowledged that a drone strike in Afghanistan killed 10 civilians, including seven children, not terrorists. A panel advising the Food and Drug Administration voted to not recommend COVID-19 booster shots for all Americans over age 16, dashing an administration hope. And France announced it was recalling its ambassador to the United States out of anger for being cut out of a secret nuclear submarine deal Biden had struck with the United Kingdom and Australia.
The administration had hoped to roll out tougher vaccine guidelines, a new international alliance to thwart China and a recommitment to what Biden has done best: drawing on his years on Capitol Hill and knowledge of the legislative process to cajole fellow Democrats to pass the two far-reaching spending bills that make up the heart of his agenda.

Actually I would disagree that Biden has any real skills that he can draw upon in spite of all of his years on Capitol Hill. As a Senator he was never known as being much of anything. As a Vice President, his boss suggested that you could never overestimate how badly Biden could fuck something up, and as a multiple Presidential candidate, he was considered the worst of the worst. Only the circumstances of running against the weakest field in history, against a polarizing incumbent in the midths of a medical crisis that many sought to blame the incumbent for allowed Biden to even become President. Even in all of that, his campaign strategy from the primaries to the general election was basically to hide from everyone.

But this is what happens when you elect someone with a history of being incompetent. You get incompetence. Make no mistake, there has probably never been a President who has fucked so many things up as this one has in less than eight months in office. We still have another three years and four months to put up with this incompetence. The only hope for Biden and his supporters (why?) at this point is to normalize the failures to the degree that just moving forward without major disasters is seen as a win. Like the sports team that has gone multiple games without a win looking for that moral victory of losing by less than normal or not getting shut out.

Either way, it doesn't look like Biden has the popularity or coattails to convince someone like Joe Manchin or Kyrsten Sinema to change their minds and back his agenda. There is a mess in the House, and pretty soon Democrats will have to look at damage control for the upcoming 2022 elections.

FAA contradicts Scott's claims of censorship over coverage at a Texas bridge

The FAA says the network made no attempt to contact the agency’s press office prior to running with anti-Fox conspiracy

You used the Fox News ran with an unsubstantiated allegation that the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) was censoring the network’s coverage of the border by forcing Fox to stop flying a camera drone over migrants waiting to be processed at a Texas bridge. Fox made this allegation without reaching out to the FAA press office, according to an agency spokesperson, who said the limit was put in place for safety and security reasons at the request of U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

On the morning of September 16, a Fox News correspondent tweeted that the network’s drone was flying over the International Bridge in Del Rio, Texas, and included images that appear to show migrants waiting to be processed. Nearly 12 hours later, that same correspondent tweeted that the FAA had implemented a temporary flight restriction over the International Bridge and implied that the government agency was preventing Fox from reporting on the border.

The FAA did issue a two-week temporary restriction on all unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) over Del Rio, Texas, because of “special security reasons.” The flight restriction is for the airspace up to 1,000 feet above the ground, and will be in place from September 16-30. It does not include manned aircraft like news helicopters, and makes exceptions for issues of national security, law enforcement, and commercial UAS provided a “valid statement of work.”

The Fox correspondent claimed to have reached out to the FAA for clarification on the reason for the flight restriction. However, the FAA directly contradicted Fox News’ story.

An FAA spokesperson told Media Matters, “FOX News never reached out to the FAA’s press office yesterday at any point. The first contact between FOX News and the FAA was after the FAA press office saw the report. A statement was sent about an hour after the report aired.”

Another conspiracy theory addiction is getting worse every day.

The CIA issued a warning a few minutes before the airstrikes in Kabul Afghanistan that killed innocent civilians, but it's not proof of incompetent behavior like you exhibit daily.

DEL RIO, Texas (AP) — The United States blocked the Mexican border on Sunday at an isolated Texas town where thousands of Haitian refugees have crossed and set up a camp, hoping to stop the flow of migrants as officials also began flying some of the migrants back to their homeland.

About a dozen Texas Department of Public Safety vehicles lined up near the bridge and river where Haitians have been crossing from Ciudad Acuna, Mexico, into Del Rio, Texas, for almost three weeks. Yellow police tape is being used to block them from using a small dam to walk into the U.S.

A Mexican police officer on the Mexican side of the border said migrants won’t be allowed to cross anymore. He would not give his name.

Many of the migrants have lived in Latin America for years, but they are now are seeking asylum in the U.S. as economic opportunities in Brazil and elsewhere dry up. Thousands are living under and near a bridge in Del Rio.

Earlier Sunday, the U.S. sent three flights of Haitians back to their homeland. The planes are expected to arrive Sunday afternoon in Port-au-Prince, Haiti’s capital.

It makes sense because we need secure borders, no matter what party is in charge.

This is bullshit.

The reporter himself was there and was deny permission to fly the drone.

You don't need permission from the FAA press office.

There was no no-fly zone posted prior to them denying permission to Fox News so the weren't particularly worried about safety and security reason.

I notice CIdney Hargis didn't ask Fox News for a comment. That is something every cub reporter would know what to do. One can only assume that she did not ask because it didn't' fit her narrative.

The Wall Street Journal doesn't agree with you Scott.

Countless things have gone wrong since Covid-19 arrived on American shores, yet this week we got proof of something that really went right: the economic policy response.

The pandemic-induced shutdown was initially the worst hit to the U.S. economy since the Great Depression. Employment and output both fell more last year than in 2008 during the financial crisis.

And yet poverty, by its broadest measure, went down. The figures reported by the Census Bureau this week reveal why: Based on cash income such as wages and social security, the share of households in poverty rose to 11.4% last year from 10.5% in 2019. But after taking account of government benefits such as stimulus checks, food stamps and tax credits, the share dropped to 9.1% from 11.8%.

In other words, the fiscal response to the pandemic succeeded in pushing poverty in the opposite direction that usually occurs in recessions.

After the 2007-09 recession, economic output took three years to return to its prerecession level under President Obama and never got back to the growth path it was on before the crisis. By contrast, after just 18 months U.S. gross domestic product is already back to its pre-pandemic level and may be back to its pre-pandemic path by year-end.

Much of the harm of recessions comes after they technically end as prolonged unemployment and depressed sales cause human and business capital to atrophy, perhaps never to be used again. The more rapid return to normality this time should preserve years of economic potential that might otherwise have gone to waste.

One year in contrast to three years, when you never gave Obama credit. Sleepy Joe is doing well!

I'm not happy but not surprised.

The Senate parliamentarian ruled Sunday that Democrats cannot include pathways to citizenship in the $3.5 trillion budget reconciliation package, per a copy of the ruling obtained by Axios.

Why it matters: It's a blow to Democrats who hoped to provide pathways for millions of undocumented immigrants in the U.S. Using reconciliations would have allowed them to pass politically contentious immigration changes with only 50 votes, as opposed to the usual 60 required.

"Changing the law to clear the way to [legal permanent residence] status is tremendous and enduring policy change that dwarfs its budgetary impact," the parliamentarian wrote in the ruling. The plan would have provided green cards for Dreamers, Temporary Protected Status holders and undocumented essential workers. It's the second time since President Biden took office that the parliamentarian has clipped Democratic efforts to push the limits of reconciliation. The first time stopped efforts to raise the minimum wage.

What to watch: Democrats plan to go back to the parliamentarian to see if there are ways to provide other kinds of legal immigration status to the undocumented populations, said Kerri Talbot, deputy director for the Immigration Hub, who has been deeply involved in the efforts.

What they're saying: "We are deeply disappointed in this decision but the fight to provide lawful status for immigrants in budget reconciliation continues," Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) said in a statement.

"Senate Democrats have prepared an alternative proposal for the Parliamentarian’s consideration in the coming days," said Sens. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) and Alex Padilla (D-Calif.) in a statement.

Editor's note: This article has been updated with further comment from the parliamentarian, and remarks by Schumer, Durbin and Padilla.

The Dreamers should have an easy path to citizenship.

He is causing more turmoil than I expected

The Washington Post reports that he's trying to get a phone call

As president, Biden has promised to repair America’s overseas relationships and bring stability to foreign policy after the disruptions of Donald Trump’s tumultuous tenure. A rift with France, one of America’s closest allies, could undermine that effort.

The call between Biden and Macron would be aimed at reducing tensions after days of hurt feelings in France and growing exasperation in Washington at what multiple national security officials suggested was an overly theatrical French response.

A senior U.S. official, speaking on the condition of anonymity to describe a fluid situation, said that the phone call between Biden and Macron should occur “soon” but that officials are still figuring out the timing.

A spokesman for the French government said Sunday that Macron would be seeking “clarification” from Biden over the cancellation of the submarine deal and that the French president wants a discussion about compensation for France over the loss of its contract.
A French official reiterated Sunday that the new arrangement had been met with “shock” and “anger” in Paris. Le Drian publicly compared Biden to Trump “without the tweets, but with a sort of solemn announcement that is rather unbearable.”
The allusion to Trump gave an unusually personal twist to France’s rebuke of Biden, as French officials said the deal with Australia was the sort of action they’d come to expect of Biden’s predecessor. In an interview on France 2 television, Le Drian noted that this is the first time in the countries’ roughly 250-year history that France had recalled its ambassador to the United States.
“The fact that, for the first time in the history of relations between the United States and France, we are recalling our ambassador for consultations is a grave political act that shows the intensity of the crisis today between our two countries and also with Australia,” Le Drian said. “There has been duplicity, contempt and lies — you can't play that way in an alliance.”

One stunning afternoon: Setbacks imperil Biden’s reset

By JONATHAN LEMIRE and ZEKE MILLERSeptember 18, 2021

WASHINGTON (AP) — It was an hour President Joe Biden would no doubt like to forget.

The headlines, all within an hour, underscored the perils for any president from situations that can define a term in office.

Already, Biden has seen public approval numbers trend downward as the pandemic has deepened and Americans cast blame for the flawed U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan.

Those ambitions are now more difficult to achieve.

Biden has proclaimed defeating the pandemic to be the central mission of his presidency. But the United States is now averaging more than 145,000 confirmed COVID-19 cases per day, compared with a low of about 8,500 per day three months ago.

The president has tried to shift the blame for the resurgence of cases to the more than 70 million Americans who have not gotten a vaccine and the GOP lawmakers who have opposed his increasingly forceful efforts to push people to get a shot. Aides had hoped for full FDA approval for the boosters, yet the advisory panel only recommended them for those over age 65 or with underlying health conditions or special circumstances.

Democrats Dealt a Blow on Immigration Plans
September 19, 2021 at 9:15 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard 212 Comments

“The Senate parliamentarian dealt a major setback Sunday to Democrats’ plan to use their $3.5 trillion social policy bill to create a path to citizenship for an estimated 8 million undocumented immigrants,” the New York Times reports.

Washington Post: “Parliamentarian Elizabeth MacDonough, a nonpartisan arbiter of the Senate’s rules who decides technical matters such as whether a mass legalization can be included in the federal budget, knocked down the plan after meeting Democratic and Republican lawmakers.”

“Her decision is a blow to Democrats’ plans to create a path to legal residency for as many as 8 million of the 11 million undocumented immigrants in the United States, including many who have lived here for years. The last major legalization occurred in 1986.”

Manchin Will Craft U.S. Climate Plan
September 19, 2021 at 9:11 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard 177 Comments

“Joe Manchin, the powerful West Virginia Democrat who chairs the Senate energy panel and earned half a million dollars last year from coal production, is preparing to remake President Biden’s climate legislation in a way that tosses a lifeline to the fossil fuel industry — despite urgent calls from scientists that countries need to quickly pivot away from coal, gas and oil to avoid a climate catastrophe,” the New York Times reports.

“Mr. Manchin has already emerged as the crucial up-or-down vote in a sharply divided Senate when it comes to Mr. Biden’s push to pass a $3.5 trillion budget bill that could reshape the nation’s social welfare network. But Mr. Biden also wants the bill to include an aggressive climate policy that would compel utilities to stop burning fossil fuels and switch to wind, solar or nuclear energy, sources that do not emit the greenhouse gases that are heating the planet.”

WHY SHOULD MANCHIN WORRY ABOUT WHAT WE'RE DOING TO OUR WORLD AS LONG AS HE'S MAKING PLENTY OF MONEY FROM COAL?

Manchin Wants to Delay Big Spending Package
September 19, 2021 at 5:07 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard 549 Comments

“Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) is privately saying he thinks Congress should take a ‘strategic pause’ until 2022 before voting on President Biden’s $3.5 trillion social-spending package,” Axios reports.

“Any delay on the Democrat-only reconciliation package could imperil House passage of the separate $1.2 trillion bipartisan infrastructure bill, which Pelosi has promised to pass by Sept. 27.”

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

The White House is also scaling back the president’s travel so he can support the agenda on Capitol Hill, but it’s led to concerns among some Democratic lawmakers that Biden isn’t doing enough to personally sell the legislation to their constituents across the country.

Some aides worry about the exposure level Biden may have faced when he mingled in groups during a recent trip to the West and his three stops to mark the Sept. 11 anniversary, two officials said. Biden, 78, also did not get a summer vacation. His plan to spend time at his Delaware home in August was scuttled by the Afghanistan crisis.

Aides had finally scheduled him a break, a long weekend at his house in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware.. He reached his home Friday just after 1:30 p.m.

Ninety minutes later, any hope for a quiet weekend vanished.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2021/09/19/tate-reeves-mississippi-covid-deaths/

You might think Reeves would be reluctant to speak out against a public health mandate, given his record on the subject. When . When covid first hit the state last year, Reeves asked Mississippians to trust in the “power of prayer.” On the tail end of last summer’s surge, he issued a mask mandate in August 2020. Within two months, he lifted it, only to reinstate it a few months later

That’s not a question Reeves wants to answer. “What we ought to be talking
about,” he told Tapper, “is what can we do to minimize the deaths going forward.” To answer that question, let’s look at the states — those “laboratories of democracy.” According to seven-day rolling averages, as of Sunday, the five states with the highest per capita covid death rates are all governed by Republicans, as are 12 of the top 13. Reeves may protest that “this virus is not just attacking Republicans in red states,” but under Republican leaders in red states, there are too many needless deaths. Politicians like Reeves have prioritized their political views over their constituents’ lives — and those constituents have paid the price.

What's "stagflation?" It's a period of high inflation and stagnant economic growth, and it can be a lose-lose situation for economic policy makers. Unfortunately, it looks like mild stagflation already may have hit the US. Here's what else you need to know to Get Up to Speed and On With Your Day.

By AJ Willingham

A registered nurse attends to a Covid-19 patient in Boise, Idaho.

Coronavirus

Skyrocketing Covid-19 cases are forcing hospitals to ration care, leading to life-or-death decisions even for those without the virus. Some 80% of ICU beds in the country are in use, with nearly 30% occupied by Covid-19 patients, recent data from the US Department of Health and Human Services shows. In the past week, the US has averaged around 1,926 Covid-19 deaths a day, the highest average since early March. The FDA’s vaccine advisers on Friday declined to recommend approval of Covid-19 booster doses for everyone who got vaccinated six months ago or longer. They did, however, recommend emergency use authorization for people 65 and older, people at high risk of severe infection, and health care workers and others at high risk of getting infected at work.

Immigration

Thousands of migrants have gathered under the Del Rio International Bridge in Texas along the southern US border, waiting for processing and possible entry into the US. As of Saturday, there were more than 14,300 migrants -- many of them Haitian -- under the bridge. That number has swelled from about 400 early last week. The Department of Homeland Security is getting resources from the Defense Department for more assistance in the area, and Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas says he will head to Texas to address the situation. DHS is also planning to ramp up deportation flights to Haiti. The tight, squalid conditions under the bridge, where migrants are gathered en masse under makeshift tents, have also raised concerns of possible humanitarian and public health crises.

Canada

Canadians head to the polls today in a snap election that could bolster Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s position -- or imbue the country’s government with bitter political polarization. Trudeau called the snap election in mid-August, barely two years into his minority government, betting he could capitalize on his handling of the pandemic to win a majority in parliament. However, he has faced a significant challenge from Erin O’Toole, Canada's Conservative Party leader. Trudeau and O’Toole are likely the only party leaders with enough support to form a government. The pandemic, climate change, housing affordability and gun control have all featured as major issues, but election experts say many Canadians don’t see the need for this election and are annoyed with the political posturing and vitriol that has accompanied it.

Afghanistan

The families of 10 civilians killed in a US airstrike in Kabul in late August are demanding justice after the US military admitted the strike was a mistake. Initially, the Pentagon said the airstrike, which came during the chaotic final days of the US troop withdrawal, had successfully targeted a facilitator affiliated with ISIS-K and destroyed a car full of explosives. A US military investigation into the incident revealed the car was likely not a threat associated with ISIS-K. Gen. Frank McKenzie, the top general of US Central Command, said the strike was a "mistake." Of the 10 civilians killed, seven were children. This incident has fueled more criticism of the Biden administration's handling of the troop withdrawal and evacuation from Afghanistan.

United Nations

High-level talks at the 76th UN General Assembly kick off this week, with world leaders meeting to debate two major global challenges: ending the pandemic and forging a healthier economy. Other divisive issues will be on the table, too, likely including the military coup in Myanmar, the future of democracy in a Taliban-ruled Afghanistan, tensions with Iran and North Korea, and climate issues. Despite urging from the US government to attend the meeting virtually, more than 100 heads of state and government are due to come to Manhattan in person, including UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and US President Biden.

One of the challenges we have in assessing the state of the pandemic is that our data — as much of it as we have — is often just hinting at what we want to know. We track new cases, but those are subject to reporting delays and uncertainty. We track deaths, but those trail new cases to varying degrees, making predictions tricky. And we assess vaccination coverage while relying on incomplete demographic data or other approximations.

hat last one is a problem particularly because vaccinations are a measurable nexus of politics and efforts to combat the virus. Mask-wearing is political, too, but it’s hard to divine the extent to which masks are being worn and how that affects the virus’s spread. But vaccination rates are correlated to the state of the pandemic, particularly hospitalizations and deaths. So political positions on vaccination trace a faint line to how many people get sick and how many people die.

Because of this, the pandemic has been called a pandemic of the
vaccinated, there has been an effort by those on the right — where vaccine opposition is higher — to try to drag the left — specifically, Black Democrats — into that group of unvaccinated Americans. The idea is not subtle: You blame Republicans for not getting vaccinated, but Black Americans are contributing to the problem, as well.

New data continues to undermine that argument.
Consider new polling from the Pew Research Center. It tracked vaccine uptake over the course of the year, finding that Democrats and Asian Americans are the groups most likely to say they have received a dose of the vaccine Black Americans are the racial group least likely to say so, though that figure is about equal to the percentage of Whites who say they’ve received a dose. It is also higher than three groups that are largely Republican: Republicans and Republican-leaning independents, rural Americans and White evangelical Protestants.

Pfizer and BioNTech’s Covid-19 vaccine is safe and generates a “robust” immune response in a clinical trial of kids ages 5 to 11, the drugmakers announced in a press release Monday.

The companies tested a two-dose regimen of 10 micrograms — about a third the dosage used for teens and adults — administered three weeks apart. The shots were well tolerated and produced an immune response and side effects comparable to those seen in a study of people ages 16 to 25, they said.

Common side effects for teens and adults include fatigue, headache, muscle pain, chills, fever and nausea, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The data, which included more than 2,200 children, will be submitted to the Food and Drug Administration and other health regulators “as soon as possible,” the companies said.

“We are eager to extend the protection afforded by the vaccine to this younger population, subject to regulatory authorization, especially as we track the spread of the Delta variant and the substantial threat it poses to children,” Pfizer CEO Albert Bourla said in a release.

The new data comes as many parents say they are anxious to get their children vaccinated, especially as schools reopen and the highly contagious delta variant continues to spread. The strain has led to a surge in hospitalizations across the U.S., including among young kids who are currently ineligible to get the shots.

So far, the Pfizer-BioNTech coronavirus vaccine has been cleared by the FDA for people as young as 12, while Moderna’s and Johnson & Johnson’s vaccines have been authorized for adults.

The FDA is expected to issue a decision sometime this week on which groups are eligible to get a third dose, or booster shot, of the Pfizer vaccine. An FDA advisory committee on Friday unanimously recommended Pfizer booster shots to people age 65 and older and other vulnerable Americans.

Bourla said last week that Pfizer could submit data on children from ages 5 to 11 by the end of this month.

Additionally, Pfizer expects to release clinical trial data on how well its Covid vaccine works in children as young as 6-months-old to 5 years old as early as the end of October, he said.

The release shared Monday didn’t mention whether any of the kids in the trial experienced myocarditis, a rare heart condition seen in a small number of adolescents and young adults.

While kids are at lower risk of severe illness or death than older people, more than 5 million children in the U.S. have tested positive for COVID-19 since the pandemic began and at least 460 have died, according to the American Academy of Pediatrics. Cases in children have risen dramatically as the delta variant swept through the country.

“I feel a great sense of urgency” in making the vaccine available to children under 12, Gruber said. “There’s pent-up demand for parents to be able to have their children returned to a normal life.”

In New Jersey, 10-year-old Maya Huber asked why she couldn’t get vaccinated like her parents and both teen brothers have. Her mother, Dr. Nisha Gandhi, a critical care physician at Englewood Hospital, enrolled Maya in the Pfizer study at Rutgers University. But the family hasn’t eased up on their masking and other virus precautions until they learn if Maya received the real vaccine or a dummy shot.

Once she knows she’s protected, Maya’s first goal: “a huge sleepover with all my friends.”

LOL.

The vaccine is "safe" for little kids while adults who have been vaccinated continue to contract the Covid virus.

A good friend, lifelong Teamster and card carrying democrat told me on Friday -

"Remember, when we were kids we were REQUIRED to get several vaccinations, including MMR and polio."

My reply - "Yep. And how many of us contracted polio, measles, mumps and/or rubella AFTER receiving those required vaccines???"

*Awkward silence*

Me: "So THERE'S the fucking problem."

The vaccines were rushed to market, having been tested for only 6 months instead of the standard 2 year testing protocol...

...and the disclaimer relieving the manufacturers of liability remains.

Regarding efficacy - the Covid vaccine appears to have an efficacy roughly equivalent to the standard flu vaccine, so positioning the vaccine as a panacea has its basis in pure, 100% BULLSHIT.

So now let's force it on little kids. Brilliant.

Liberals are fucking evil, and seem determined to find another way to kill the kids they missed killing in the fucking WOMB.

On April 26, 1954, the Salk polio vaccine field trials, involving 1.8 million children, begin at the Franklin Sherman Elementary School in McLean, Virginia. Children in the United States, Canada and Finland participated in the trials, which used for the first time the now-standard double-blind method, whereby neither the patient nor attending doctor knew if the inoculation was the vaccine or a placebo.

One year later, on April 12, 1955, researchers announced the vaccine was safe and effective and it quickly became a standard part of childhood immunizations in America. In the ensuing decades, polio vaccines would all but wipe out the highly contagious disease in the Western Hemisphere.

Some Republicans are trying hard to deny raising the debt limit.
But

Congress has raised or suspended the country’s debt ceiling about 80 times since 1960. Now it must do so again. If not, sometime in October—it is impossible to predict precisely when—the Treasury Department’s cash balance will fall to an insufficient level, and the federal government will be unable to pay its bills.

The U.S. has always paid its bills on time, but the overwhelming consensus among economists and Treasury officials of both parties is that failing to raise the debt limit would produce widespread economic catastrophe. In a matter of days, millions of Americans could be strapped for cash. We could see indefinite delays in critical payments. Nearly 50 million seniors could stop receiving Social Security checks for a time. Troops could go unpaid. Millions of families who rely on the monthly child tax credit could see delays. America, in short, would default on its obligations.

The U.S. has never defaulted. Not once. Doing so would likely precipitate a historic financial crisis that would compound the damage of the continuing public health emergency. Default could trigger a spike in interest rates, a steep drop in stock prices and other financial turmoil. Our current economic recovery would reverse into recession, with billions of dollars of growth and millions of jobs lost.

We would emerge from this crisis a permanently weaker nation.

Trump's coercion and role in Jan. 6 warrant a special prosecutor

DOJ needs to appoint a special prosecutor to hold Trump accountable for his actions.

Then-President Donald Trump walks to Marine One from the White House in 2017.Brendan Smialowski / AFP via Getty Images file

Sept. 20, 2021, 2:30 AM PDT

By Richard W. Painter, MSNBC Opinion Columnist

In August 2020, then-Secretary of State Mike Pompeo turned a diplomatic mission to the Middle East into a political event when he addressed the Republican National Convention in a video from Jerusalem with the Western Wall in the background. Pompeo made repeated references to President Donald Trump’s pro-Israel policies, the subject of his official diplomatic mission.

If crimes were committed, even by the former president himself, then they should be prosecuted.

The State Department had already been in the middle of Trump’s scheme to hold up U.S. aid for Ukraine unless Ukraine began a criminal investigation of Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden and his son Hunter Biden. That, of course, was the subject of Trump’s first impeachment, during which the Senate, then controlled by Republicans, refused even to hear witnesses.

It is a federal crime for “any person to intimidate, threaten, command, or coerce, or attempt to intimidate, threaten, command, or coerce, any employee of the Federal Government ... to engage in, or not to engage in, any political activity.”

The “any person” mentioned in 18 USC 610 of the federal code does not exclude a former president like Trump, who did “intimidate, threaten, command, or coerce” federal employees, mostly his own appointees, into political activity in support of his re-election campaign. Trump’s coercion intensified after he lost the election, and he leaned on the Justice Department and the military to redo the 2020 election.

Trump's insurrection may be over, but the danger to democracy is ongoing

More than 30 years ago, then-Sen. Joe Biden argued persuasively that special prosecutors are needed when high-ranking officials shatter the public’s faith in the government’s integrity. He’s president now, and his attorney general, Merrick Garland, has the authority to appoint a special counsel to investigate and prosecute allegations of crimes by Trump and others, including violations of the political coercion statute.

Garland not only has that authority, but he also has the obligation. If crimes were committed, even by the former president himself, then they should be prosecuted.

The evidence is overwhelming that Trump repeatedly violated the criminal statute prohibiting coercion.

Whether a former president should be prosecuted for allegations including coercing political activity by federal employees or inciting insurrection should not be a political judgment call. A president who committed such crimes must be prosecuted if we do not want those crimes to be repeated by future presidents or our representative democracy imperiled.

Garland should appoint a special counsel who can make decisions independent of political considerations, whether for or against Trump. That prosecutor should follow the facts and the law wherever they might lead, focused single-mindedly on that concept fundamental to representative democracy: No person is above the law.

Great news for the economy!

The United States announced a new international air travel system Monday, opening travel for all vaccinated foreign nationals in early November, including those currently impacted by the U.S. travel ban.

"This vaccination requirement deploys the best tool we have in our arsenal to keep people safe and prevent the spread of the virus," said White House COVID-19 Response Coordinator Jeff Zients.

Travelers will need to show proof of full vaccination prior to boarding U.S.-bound planes. A COVID-19 test will also continue to be required within three days of departure and proof of negative results must be shown. Enhanced contact tracing and masking will also be required, but there will be no quarantine mandate.

The U.S. ban on nonessential travel has been in place since early 2020 imposed by Emperor Trump, starting with China and expanding to visitors from, the United Kingdom, the Republic of Ireland, the 29 regions in the European Schengen region, Iran, Brazil, South Africa and India.

He was censored by YouTube for providing scientific studies about the efficacy of masks that rebutted prevailing liberal orthodoxy. But when presented with the facts, he might legitimately be one of the most competent officeholders we have.

Paul accused Dr. Anthony Fauci of mishandling the coronavirus pandemic and not being truthful about funding expenditures.
Fauci and Paul have had multiple contentious exchanges during hearings in the Senate. Many Democrats and other left-wing pundits accused Paul of being ill-informed and wrong. Yet recent reports show that Paul was correct in his assessment of Fauci's honesty.

Recently, Paul was questioning Secretary of State Antony Blinken over whether a U.S. drone strike killed an intended ISIS-K target or an innocent aid worker. Blinken was unable to confirm the identity of the target.

“So, you don’t know or won’t tell us?” Paul asked Blinken.

“I don’t know because we’re reviewing it,” Blinken answered.

“You’d think you’d kind of know before you off someone,” Paul said in his exchange with Blinken. The accidental assassination of an innocent aid worker would severely compound the atrocious execution of the Afghanistan pullout and damage our international reputation. Such a grave error, Paul pointed out, it could lead to retaliation. "Maybe you’ve created hundreds or thousands of new potential terrorists from bombing the wrong people,” he said.

In the end, Blinken’s response does not appear truthful. It should be easy enough to confirm whether an aid worker is dead or alive.

Whatever one’s opinion of Paul, he deserves credit in his efforts to find out the truth, even when lots of people just don't want to hear it. He is right to question authority and to question the public's overreliance on dishonest authorities for information.

The hard right wing might be on the ballot next year...

Abbott has built a $55 million war chest, but his popularity is sinking over his handling of the COVID-19 pandemic and embrace of the Emperor Trump.

Beto O’Rourke, a former House member who ran for president in 2020, is preparing to challenge Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) in 2022, multiple media outlets reported Sunday.

O’Rourke has been seeking advice from fellow Democrats about running against Abbott, who has faced renewed criticism over his mishandling of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Dallas Morning News reports. Abbott also has faced outrage over the state’s abortion ban, voter suppression measures and his handling of a storm last winter that crippled the state.

A race between O’Rourke, a popular Democrat, and an increasingly hard-right governor would make the election one of the most-watched contests of the 2022 election cycle. Axios was the first to report the news.

He hasn't yet announced it,but another southern American candidate like Bill Clinton might get elected President, especially if Biden doesn't run again.

They probably had not finished scraping bits of the 2 year old child off the stone wall where the drone had struck.

More than 3 million new docs found in co-conspirator's basement by Trump tax fraud investigators: report

John Wright

September 20, 2021

An attorney for Allen Weisselberg, the chief financial officer of the Trump Organization, said in court Monday that he believes more indictments are coming in the case.

"We have strong reason to believe there could be other indictments coming," attorney Bryan Skarlatos said at a pre-trial hearing in New York State Supreme Court, according to a report from CNN.

Asked about the pending indictments, CNN's Kara Scannell said: "There was no further elaboration on that point, and we don't know exactly who could be charged or how many people."

Scannell added that Skarlatos asked the judge for more time to deal with discovery in the case, as he receives more evidence from prosecutors.

"He said he just received today a manilla envelope that he held up in court with a bulge in it," Scannell reported. "And he said within that, he was told there were 3 million documents. He said these documents were found in a co-conspirator's basement, and they were tax documents. So certainly a lot more information getting transferred from prosecutors to the defense."

Combing through millions of documents will take a few months.

Some lawyers are saying that an indictment against Emperor Trump may be issued about a year from now..

Pelosi Statement on the Tenth Anniversary of the Implementation of the Repeal of ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’

SEPTEMBER 20, 2021

PRESS RELEASE

Washington, D.C. – Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued the following statement on the tenth anniversary of when the repeal of the discriminatory “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy took effect:

“Ten years ago today, America took a monumental step forward on the march toward full equality when the repeal of the hateful ‘Don’t Ask Don’t Tell’ policy took effect.  By correcting this historic injustice, Democrats strengthened our national security and ensured that tens of thousands of brave, patriotic LGBTQ Servicemembers could finally openly serve our country.

“Since our nation’s Founding, LGBTQ Americans have bravely put their lives on the line for our freedom – yet for too long have been denied the dignity and respect they deserve.  After Democrats proudly threw ‘Don’t Ask Don’t Tell’ into the dustbin of history in 2011, the Trump Administration cruelly revived the same forces of fear and hatred four years ago with its ban on transgender men and women from the armed forces.  Congressional Democrats salute President Biden for swiftly repealing this discriminatory policy upon taking office, and we remain united in our commitment to combat homophobia, transphobia and bigotry in all forms.

“Today, and every day, Democrats reaffirm our pledge to honor all who don the uniform, no matter who you are or whom you love.  And we will not relent until the House-passed Equality Act is enshrined into law and we finally, fully end discrimination against LGBTQ Americans – in the workplace, in our military and in all places.”

Fox News slams Biden for riding a bicycle: 'Just compare it to President Donald Trump'

Fox News presented a segment on Monday which criticized President Joe Biden for exercising by riding a bicycle.

After Biden was seen riding a bicycle in Delaware over the weekend, Fox News host Harris Faulkner asked Rachel Campos-Duffy to comment on the president's health.

"Being the leader of the free world has to be the most demanding job in the whole world and he simply does not have the mental or physical stamina to do this job," Campos-Duffy opined as Fox News played a video of Biden riding his bike.

"That is why his handlers and his wife, who by the way look increasingly like Visiting Angels, have to schedule in these senior breaks for him so he can take naps and go for bike rides because he can't concentrate on the job the way he should," she said.

Campos-Duffy added: "I mean, just compare it to President Donald Trump, who worked these long, long hours and had impromptu hourlong pressers with the media."

"Over the course of his presidency, Trump has visited a Trump-owned or branded property on three out of every 10 days.

This might change your mind Scott. We really don't know yet, but if we get the pandemic under control inflation rates will drop to pre pandemic levels.
