Deaths in Florida continue to fall as the use of monoclonal antibody drugs increase

Florida up to 25 free stations to get Covid treatments

A month ago, Florida was on it's way up and running close to 300 deaths a day. A month later deaths have dropped down under 50. Most people are suggesting that the use of REGEN-COV and drugs like it are the major cause of the deaths plummeting even as cases are still high.

But as we know the left hates the fact that anyone is "treating Covid" and are suggesting that this is a scam to pad the pockets of pharmaceuticals who are offering the drug. Of course, they same people have no problem with the concept of taking indefinite Covid booster shots (which are now being talked about as possibly a weekly deal). Who looks to profit more? Someone providing a treatment for a virus that will eventually die down, or a pharma who is offering a vaccine which may be mandated for everyone to be taking at intervals that will be at least twice yearly... indefinitely.

Meanwhile the Biden administration has apparently stepped in and are looking to undermine these efforts. From Politico
The Biden administration is imposing new limits on states’ ability to access to Covid-19 antibody treatments amid rising demand from GOP governors who have relied on the drug as a primary weapon against the virus. Federal health officials plan to allocate specific amounts to each state under the new approach, in an effort to more evenly distribute the 150,000 doses that the government makes available each week.
The approach is likely to cut into shipments to GOP-led states in the Southeast that have made the pricey antibody drug a central part of their pandemic strategy, while simultaneously spurning mask mandates and other restrictions. That threatens to heighten tensions between the Biden administration and governors like Florida’s Ron DeSantis, who have emerged as vocal opponents of the federal Covid-19 response

So the logic here is to take it away from states that are pushing the treatment and make it more available to other states that are not pushing it. This might make sense, except for one big problem. There is no reason to limit it.  The manufacturers has suggested that they can cover any new demands from other states that might be interested. So there is no need to ration. Instead it looks like this is designed to undermine the efforts of states who are not following the demands from the Administration to wear masks and impose lockdowns, rather than attempt to treat the drug. Do it our way... or else.

Is the Administration literally wanting to see more people die in red states where treatments are being used (like the rest of the world) so they can continue to point fingers rather than actually do something about the most recent increase (over 1800 dead today again)? Certainly seem to be the plan. Because the plan to stop it in its tracks has failed miserably.

Now the plan appears to be to make sure more people die.

UPDATE: DeSantis is going to do an end around and bypass the Biden Administration limits by purchasing it directly from another manufacturer. Biden had just promised Florida a 50% increase just over a week ago. Obviously he lied (as Biden often does) and now DeSantis is having to make his own move.

How many times did Biden tell us he had a fool proof plan to stop it in its tracks. Yet, just yesterday we had 164K new cases and over 1800 deaths. A year ago we had 56K and 1100 deaths.

That appears to be three times as many case and over one and half times as many deaths. Does that sound like a great result from a fool proof plan to you???

Your neighboring Republicans state has to triage patients.

BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Idaho public health leaders on Thursday expanded health care rationing statewide amid a massive increase in the number of coronavirus patients requiring hospitalization.

The Idaho Department of Health and Welfare made the announcement after St. Luke's Health System, Idaho's largest hospital network, on Wednesday asked state health leaders to allow "crisis standards of care" because the increase in COVID-19 patients has exhausted the state's medical resources.

Idaho is one of the least vaccinated U.S. states, with only about 40% of its residents fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Only Wyoming and West Virginia have lower vaccination rates.

Crisis care standards mean that scarce resources such as ICU beds will be allotted to the patients most likely to survive. Other patients will be treated with less effective methods or, in dire cases, given pain relief and other palliative care.

Thursday's move came a week after Idaho officials started allowing health care rationing at hospitals in northern parts of the state.

"The situation is dire – we don't have enough resources to adequately treat the patients in our hospitals, whether you are there for COVID-19 or a heart attack or because of a car accident," Idaho Department of Welfare Director Dave Jeppesen said in statement.

President Biden failed to persuade Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) to agree to spending $3.5 trillion on the Democrats' budget reconciliation package during their Oval Office meeting yesterday, people familiar with the matter tell Axios' Hans Nichols.

Why it matters: Defying a president from his own party — face-to-face — is the strongest indication yet Manchin is serious about cutting specific programs and limiting the price tag of any potential bill to $1.5 trillion. His insistence could blow up the deal for progressives and others.

Axios was told Biden explained to Manchin his opposition could imperil the $1.2 trillion bipartisan infrastructure bill that's already passed the Senate. Biden's analysis did little to persuade Manchin to raise his top line.Manchin held his position and appears willing to let the bipartisan bill hang in the balance, given his entrenched opposition to many of the specific proposals in the $3.5 trillion spending package, Axios was told. While the two left the meeting having made little progress, and are still some $2 trillion apart, the conversation was friendly and they agreed to keep talking.

What they're saying: "Sen. Manchin is an important partner," said Andrew Bates, deputy White House press secretary. "We do not discuss the contents of private meetings."

Flashback: In early March, with Biden’s $1.9 trillion COVID-19 relief package in danger of failing, he called Manchin and told him, “If you don’t come along, you’re really f**king me,” according to a new book by Bob Woodward and Robert Costa.

Manchin eventually voted for the bill, after holding out for some last-minute changes.

Donald Trump are being highlighted in Bob Woodward and Robert Costa's new book, "Peril." Here are five of the most shocking revelations from the book.

1. Trump was angry with Paul Ryan for criticizing protestors in Charlottesville because "these are my people."

According to "Peril," as reported by HuffPost, the former president was not pleased when Ryan spoke out against white supremacy after the "Unite the Right" rally that took place in Charlottesville, Va., back in 2017.

At the time, Ryan described white supremacy as "repulsive" after Trump suggested there were good people on "both sides." Ryan also insisted that Trump had "a moral leadership obligation to get this right and not declare there is a moral equivalency here."

A furious Trump reportedly phoned Ryan and chastised him for not being "in the foxhole" with him.

J

"These people love me. These are my people," Trump reportedly told Ryan. "I can't backstab the people who support me."

2. Trump's claim that there were good people "on both sides" was fueled by "Unite the Right" rally goers' overwhelming support of him.

At one point during his call with Ryan, he admitted that there were "some bad people," but because of their support for him, many of them were also "good people."

"I get that. I'm not for that. I'm against all that," Trump reportedly said. "But there's some of those people who are for me. Some of them are good people."

3. General Mark Milley had defense officials take a secret oath when Trump became too unpredictable following the Capitol riots.

General Mark Milley had great concerns about Trump's mental health following the insurrection on the U.S. Capitol. In fact, he was so concerned about the president's impulsiveness that he secretly had top defense officials take a private oath. They were to report to him first if Trump ordered them to launch nukes.

Report Advertisement

"No matter what you are told, you do the procedure. You do the process. And I'm part of that procedure," Milley told the officers, according to the book. The top-ranking military advisor is also said said have "went around the room, looked each officer in the eye, and asked them to verbally confirm they understood."

4. Trump threw tantrum when Pence refused to help him overturn the presidential election.

According to the book, Trump reached an unprecedented point of desperation when he wanted former Vice President Mike Pence to aide him in his effort to overturn the election. According to Vanity Fair, Woodard and Costa detailed one encounter where Trump whined and told Pence they wouldn't be friends anymore if he didn't participate.

Report Advertisement

After relentlessly pressuring Pence despite him having no real authority to do his bidding, Trump resorted to threats.

"You don't understand, Mike," Trump said. "You can do this. I don't want to be your friend anymore if you don't do this."

"If you don't do it, I picked the wrong man four years ago," adding, "You're going to wimp out."

5. Trump believed Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) betrayed him.

Trump was enraged when McCarthy condemned January 6 riots at the U.S. Capitol. According to Trump, it was the ultimate betrayal. The book sheds light on Trump's reaction to McCarthy's words.

"This guy called me every single day, pretended to be my best friend, and then, he f****d me," Mr Trump reportedly said of tthe top-ranking Republican lawmaker back in February. "He's not a good guy."

Last week, the governor of Hawaii signed an executive order releasing the state’s hospitals from liability if they turn away sick patients because they have no room. On Monday, the Idaho state health department declared “crisis standards of care,” a triage system that allows hospitals with no spare beds to decide which patients they will accept.

Simultaneously, a Florida high school teacher went viral after describing how he took his 12-year-old to an emergency room that turned out to be overwhelmed with Covid patients. They waited six hours, while his child’s appendix ruptured, a potentially life-threatening event. His son survived—after what the dad described as five days in the hospital, and an initial $5,000 bill.

“What’s remarkable about Trump’s picks isn’t just their breadth — he’s endorsed close to 40 candidates so far in 23 states — it’s their seemingly random quality. What’s even more unusual is that the political goals of the GOP’s de facto leader aren’t necessarily in sync with his own party — in some cases, they are starkly at odds.”

“If there’s a thread running through nearly all of Trump’s endorsements, it is his habit of rewarding allies and punishing enemies.”

Adolf Trump is driving the Republican party even further to the right..

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has $55 million banked for his re-election campaign, a 73 percent approval rating among Republicans, and an endorsement from former President Donald Trump.

And, thanks to restrictive abortion and voting bills Abbott has signed in recent months, Texas has become an epicenter of the national conservative causes that rally the GOP base.

None of that, though, has stopped a crop of critics — including Allen West, a former Florida congressman with a right-wing following who briefly served as the Texas GOP chairman — from announcing plans to challenge Abbott in next year’s primary.

Texas Gov. Abbott signs controversial elections integrity bill into law

Their complaint isn’t so much that Abbott is not a conservative. It's that he's not the hard-line conservative they believe that Texans crave — particularly when compared with some Republican peers and their hands-off approach to the coronavirus pandemic.

“He’s not Ron DeSantis, and he’s not Kristi Noem,” one veteran of Texas GOP politics said, referencing the governors of Florida and South Dakota who’ve upped their national profiles by resisting extended lockdowns, mask and vaccine mandates and other restrictions to limit the spread of Covid.

Even Abbott isn't crazy enough.

ATHENS, Greece — The top U.S. military officer said Friday that calls he made to his Chinese counterpart in the final stormy months of Donald Trump’s presidency were “perfectly within the duties and responsibilities” of his job.

In his first public comments on the conversations, Gen. Milley has been at the center of a firestorm amid reports he made two calls to Gen. Li Zuocheng of the People’s Liberation Army to assure him that the United States was not going to suddenly go to war with or attack China.

How many Republicans bashing the Biden administration’s handling of that retreat are just using it as just an excuse to hurt the other guy and hope they win in 2022? How many are willing to confront the deep, decades-long rot that is the actual reason we lost in Afghanistan?

Not many. That would require admitting that our military has been badly mismanaged by Republicans as well as Democrats.

Good government is hard. It’s often boring and unrewarding. Some of the most important policies we can enact won’t make for a good cable news hit — but we need them.

It’s difficult to stay focused: We exist in perpetual distraction entirely dictated by the latest news item or communication flashing across our smart phones. We’re connected (and addicted) to flashing images, to remote work, to easy lust and self-affirming outrage; and all we need to do to release a dopamine hit is touch a button on our phone.

It’s distracting us, it’s making us stupid, and it’s taking our eyes off the ball. There’s no grand conspiracy here — we choose to consume the junk food, the junk news, the junk entertainment. Now, it’s time to disconnect.

America is sick. It’s a sickness that started years ago, but we still refuse to acknowledge it. Instead, we talk on and on and on about COVID or racism or a riot, like an ill person blaming the weather or smog or our neighbor’s dog keeping us awake at night.

But the problems don’t care about our excuses or our explanations — they simply are, and they’re getting worse every day. If we don’t make the choice to confront it directly, it will kill us.

We have always walked a fine line with civilian control over the military.

General Milly has done something unusual, in response to a very mentally disabled President.

Milley “did what he had to do to fulfill his oath to the Constitution and to protect this country,” a senior military official said, speaking on the condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak on the record.
But critics say that Milley’s unusually prominent role in the nation’s charged political discourse has the potential to exacerbate the erosion of the military’s nonpartisan status that occurred under Trump. Chairmen, who usually keep their military advice to the president confidential, typically keep a low profile and are little known outside government circles.
Trump flouted norms concerning the military, intervening in military justice cases, treating troop events like campaign rallies and referring to the top brass as “my generals.”
“Whatever one thinks of the reports on General Milley’s actions, it’s of great concern that the chairman of the joint chiefs of staff has become a regular topic of political debate, commentary and intrigues,” John Gans, a former Pentagon speechwriter, said on Twitter. “This won’t end well.”

The hearings next week will be interesting.

Lawyer indicted on charges of lying to FBI as part of Durham probe into Trump-Russia investigation
By Evan Perez and Katelyn Polantz, CNN
Sep 16, 2021
(CNN) - A federal grand jury has indicted cybersecurity lawyer Michael Sussmann as part of a special counsel's probe into the origins of the Trump-Russia investigation, alleging he lied to the FBI general counsel.
The indictment comes as special counsel John Durham is nearing the conclusion of his more than two-year-long probe and faced a looming deadline on whether to seek charges over the handling of evidence used in the probe, according to people briefed on the matter.
According to the indictment, Sussmann -- a prominent cybersecurity lawyer whose law firm Perkins Coie worked for Hillary Clinton's 2016 campaign -- lied at a September 2016 meeting with then-FBI General Counsel James Baker in which Sussmann shared information about possible connections between the Trump Organization and a Russian bank.
Sussmann told Baker he wasn't working on behalf of any client, yet prosecutors allege he was representing the Clinton campaign as well as a tech industry professional to provide the server data, according to the indictment.
Sussmann's attorneys have said he would fight the charge in court, and his law firm said in a statement Thursday he had resigned "in order to focus on his legal defense."
The criminal charge on Thursday quickly became an underwhelming mark in a special counsel investigation that for years sought to unearth failures in the FBI and intelligence community's efforts in the early Russia investigation -- only to land on a single charge against a low-profile outside attorney. The information Sussmann presented to the FBI ultimately became a sidebar that fizzled quickly in the larger Russia investigation, which established that the Trump campaign welcomed Russia's meddling in the 2016 election and resulted in several convictions of six top Trump advisers.
"Sussmann's lie was material," prosecutors wrote, "because, among other reasons, Sussmann's false statement misled the FBI general counsel and other FBI personnel concerning the political nature of his work and deprived the FBI of information that might have permitted it more fully to assess and uncover the origins of the relevant data and technical analysis, including the identities and motivations of Sussmann's clients."
Prosecutors allege Sussmann repeated the lie to other government employees.
Focus on communications data
An FBI investigation didn't find evidence of surreptitious communications between the Russian Alfa Bank and the Trump Organization, according to a Senate Intelligence Committee report. And the bank and the Trump Organization have denied the claims.
The provenance of a thumb drive provided to the FBI by Sussmann has been a major focus of the probe, the people briefed on the matter said.
The drive contained information about possible connections between Trump's company and a Russian bank.
The FBI investigated the claims that servers in Trump Tower were communicating with servers belonging to Alfa Bank, a Russian bank, as part of the broader investigation of ties between Trump campaign associates and Russians.

We're being out-classed by the cheese eating surrender monkeys:

French officials announced overnight that their military forces had killed the top ISIS leader in Africa, a terrorist for whom the United States had offered a $5 million reward due to his connection to the deadly attack on a team of Green Berets in Niger four years ago.

French President Emmanuel Macron announced on Twitter that Adnan Abou Walid al-Sahrawi, the leader of the Islamic State in the Greater Sahara, was "neutralized by French forces."

Milley on Friday offered only a brief defense of his calls, saying he plans a deeper discussion about the matter for Congress when he testifies at a hearing later in September.

“I think it’s best that I reserve my comments on the record until I do that in front of the lawmakers who have the lawful responsibility to oversee the U.S. military,” Milley said. “I’ll go into any level of detail Congress wants to go into in a couple of weeks.”

Milley and U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin are scheduled to testify Sept. 28 before the Senate Armed Services Committee, in what initially was going to be a hearing on the U.S. military withdrawal from Afghanistan and the chaotic evacuation of Americans, Afghans and others from that country.

Now, however, Milley is expected to face tough questioning on the telephone calls, which came during Trump’s turbulent last months in office as he challenged the results of the 2020 election. The second call, on Jan. 8, came two days after a violent mob attacked the U.S. Capitol in an effort to prevent Congress from certifying Joe Biden’s White House victory.

A special House committee that is investigating the Jan. 6 riot at the Capitol has asked for details about Milley’s calls. U.S. Reps. Bennie Thompson, D-Miss., and Liz Cheney, R-Wyo., leaders of the committee, have also sought records related to the November election, the transfer of power from Trump to Biden and the riot.

Milley was appointed Joint Chiefs chairman by Trump in 2019 and has remained in that post in the Biden administration. As chairman, Milley is the top military adviser to the president and to the defense secretary.

The White House and the Pentagon chief have said they continue to have full trust and confidence in Milley.

The new book says Milley, fearful of Trump’s actions late in his term, twice called his Chinese counterpart to assure him that the U.S. was not going to attack China. One call took place on Oct. 30, four days before the American election. The second call was on Jan. 8, less than two weeks before Biden’s inauguration and two days after the insurrection at the Capitol by supporters of Trump.

Some U.S. lawmakers have said Milley overstepped his authority, and they have called for Biden to fire him. Trump blasted Milley as treasonous, called him “a complete nutjob” and said Milley “never told me about calls being made to China.”

Biden told reporters after the disclosures in the book that “I have great confidence in Gen. Milley.”

Milley’s office, in a statement this week, said the calls were intended to convey “reassurance” to the Chinese military and were in line with his responsibilities as Joint Chiefs chairman.

The statement from Milley spokesman Col. Dave Butler also said that the calls were “staffed, coordinated and communicated” with the Pentagon and other federal agencies.

According to the book, which the AP obtained, Milley assured his Chinese counterpart in the first call that “the American government is stable and everything is going to be okay.” It said he told Li, “We are not going to attack or conduct any kinetic operations against you.”

“If we’re going to attack, I’m going to call you ahead of time. It’s not going to be a surprise,” Milley reportedly said.

Milley spoke with a number of other military leaders around the world after the Jan. 6 riot; they included leaders from the United Kingdom, Russia and Pakistan. A description of those calls in January referred to “several” other counterparts that Milley spoke to with similar messages of reassurance that the U.S. government was strong and in control.

The second call was meant to placate Chinese fears about the events of Jan. 6. But the book reports that Li wasn’t as easily assuaged, even after Milley promised him: “We are 100 percent steady. Everything’s fine. But democracy can be sloppy sometimes.”

In response to the book, U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., urged Biden to fire Milley, saying the general worked to “actively undermine” the American commander in chief, Trump.

For 2+ years, the Mueller team fed a credulous media a series of disingenuous indictments falsely suggesting a Trump-Russia conspiracy that they knew wasn't there, because it all originated w/ a DNC-funded scam. Now we get an indictment offering a window into how the scam began.

But you seem to have forgotten that the we are a nation of states. And most of them with high infections rates are Republican.

Technically we are a nation of people.

If you go to Florida (for instance) the people catching the virus and dying are from the Miami-Dade and Tampa areas. They are dark blue counties with large minority populations. Pretty much most places you go where there are high infection rates, the urban areas are what is fueling it.

So if you really believe that the President gets a pass because of where the outbreaks are occuring, then you must feel that the President doesn't represent everyone, only blue states?

Btw... 4 of the top 10 states in terms of new cases were Blue states yesterday and 9 out of the top 20 states in terms of deaths were also blue states.

So this is not red/blue. It's mostly regional and just a matter of time before it starts to push its way west and north.
