The President and his handlers turning into Communist party leaders oh f**k
Hans J. Morgenthau was one of the leading scholars of international relationships during the mid-20th century. He served as a consultant to governments and an advisor to presidents John F. Kennedy and Lyndon B. Johnson, before resigning due to disagreements over LBJ’s Vietnam policy.
Among his many books was Politics Among Nations (1948), at one time the “bible” of international relations scholars. In 1970, a volume collecting some of his articles and essays written in the 1960s was published under the title Truth and Power. Essays of a Decade 1960-1970. Included in that volume are essays that have particular relevance to U.S. politics in the early 2020s.
Politics in America today includes a dangerous collusion between scientists, big-tech/social media oligarchs, and the federal government that promote their version of the “truth” and try to stifle and in some cases punish dissenting voices. This dangerous conglomeration of social and political power is cheered on and abetted by the mainstream media. Whether the issue is climate change, pandemic mandates, the validity of the 2020 election, or combating “systemic racism,” only one “truth” is acceptable, and those who dissent from the “truth” can be canceled, socially ostracized, publicly condemned, denied employment, or worse.
Morgenthau wrote the essays in Truth and Power during the turbulent 1960s, but some of his observations have an eerie relevance to today’s politics. For example, in 1964, in an essay entitled “Modern Science and Political Power,” Morgenthau warned that our democracy was endangered by the scientific-technological-governmental trinity. “Power,” Morgenthau wrote, “has shifted from the people to the government. Within the government, power has shifted from democratically responsible officials to certain technological elites, military and scientific, which are not democratically responsible.” This development, he wrote, had “drastically decreased” voters’ control over the affairs of government. And this situation, he warned, “makes totalitarianism possible.”
California is projected to receive the largest number of Afghan refugees (5,255) who are coming to America, followed by Texas (4,481), according to State Department data obtained by Axios' Stef Kight.
Hawaii, South Dakota, West Virginia and Wyoming are the only states not slated to receive anyone from the first group of evacuees, plus Washington, D.C.
What's happening: The Biden administration notified governors and mayors yesterday of the number of Afghan evacuees their state is expected to receive in the coming weeks.
An initial group of 37,000 Afghans will soon be headed to states across the country, many after harrowing journeys from Afghanistan.
What's next: More evacuees are waiting in third countries.
The administration has requested funding from Congress to help resettle 65,000 Afghans in the U.S. by the end of this month and 95,000 by September 2022
The Food and Drug Administration struck a noncommittal tone on the subject of booster shots in an evidence review published Wednesday, ahead of a key meeting of its vaccine advisory committee scheduled for Friday to vote on whether the agency should approve a third dose of the vaccine developed by Pfizer and BioNTech.
The Biden administration has come out strongly in support of giving booster shots to most Americans, and some states have begun preparing to distribute them as soon as next week. Immunocompromised people have been authorized to get booster shots since August — and many people with healthy immune systems have not waited for FDA approval to get theirs.
But the scientific community is split on this. The medical journal Lancet recently published a review by an international roster of scientists that includes a pair of senior outgoing FDA officials that argued forcefully against administering boosters to the general public, at least for now. The World Health Organization, for its part, has called for a moratorium on booster shots until the end of the year to ensure a supply for poorer countries — a call that the White House has characterized as a “false choice.”
Here’s what to know Questions? Here’s what you need to know about coronavirus booster shots in the U.S.
Officials in New York want everyone who attends the United Nations General Assembly to be vaccinated. The U.N. says that’s impossible to enforce.
Russian President Vladimir Putin said that “several dozen” people in his entourage have tested positive for the coronavirus, as he continues to self-isolate.
The pace of new coronavirus infections in the U.S. is beginning to slow — a potential sign that the states hit hardest by the Delta wave may be starting to turn things around.
Yes, but: Deaths are still rising, and it’s still too early to know whether schools might drive cases back up again.
By the numbers: On average, about 150,000 Americans are contracting COVID-19 infections every day. That number has fallen by 8% over the past two weeks.
The rate of new infections got worse over the past two weeks in 27 states and improved in 23.Many of the states that experienced the biggest surges in cases and hospitalizations this summer are now beginning to see some improvement.
Deaths, however, are rising. The virus is now killing 1,888 Americans per day, on average — a 33% jump over the past two weeks.
Between the lines: When a new wave hits, cases go up first, followed a little while later by hospitalizations, and then deaths. Today’s rising death toll is the result of the increase in cases and severe illnesses that swept across the U.S. earlier this summer.
Vaccinated people can get infected, but are still protected almost entirely from severe illness and death. This summer’s crush of hospitalizations, and now the rising death toll, were preventable.
Sad how Lil Schitty now roots for death and illness to win a political point that somehow Biden is responsible for the millions of idiots who have not taken the shot.....I guess marrying a child affects ones thinking that his views are omnipotent!!!!!! BWAAAAAAAAAAA!!!! Why is he spreading misinformation of vaccine efficacy and conflating the problem that Trump created and we still suffer over!!!! See Ca recall results as complete refutation of trumpist ideology since exit polls show the the voters supported or wanted more stringent guidelines....unlike the assholes of Alabama or Arkansas who all live in their own dream world of stupid!!!!
On public radio this morning I heard that we are now having 150,000 Covid deaths a day, very, very concerning, though not as many as we had when Covid was at its worst.
And although there are signs of some improvement now in the southern states, it is not certain that northern states may be in for an uptick. And no one knows what colder weather brings, with people forced to be inside.
Israel is having tremendous problems now, in spite of having taken firm measures earlier which had seemed to put them on a path toward elimination of the disease.
Large numbers of those now being hospitalized with Covid (when beds can be found) are thirteen to seventeen years of age, an age at which they COULD have been vaccinated, but were not. Doctors are reporting that their parents often express deep feelings of guilt.
The vaccines that Trump took so much credit for are not perfect, and yet the OVERWHELMING number of those who are sickest HAVE NOT BEEN VACCINATED.
Gavin Newsom, newly victorious over the CA recall attempt, is advising Democrats to keep right on emphasizing the pandemic, as he did.
And let's encourage the Trump supporters to remain Trump supporters.
