But it's been lost in the social issues.

The Republicans have been successful in using gays, guns and abortion to attract the non college educated voters. The truth is that Republican economic policies are not designed to help those who vote. But Hillary Clinton was unable to make the case to those voters. It's time to find fresh blood.

The Swamp is Draining Right into the White House

Once Donald Trump became the GOP presidential nominee, he railed early and often against Hillary Clinton. He lambasted her as a Washington insider, made snide remarks about her being bought and paid for by the Wall Street firms who hired her to speak to them, and suggested that her Clinton Foundation work meant she was in the thrall of lobbyists.

Now that Trump has won the White House, of course, he's begun to fill his administration with exactly the same sort of Washington insiders, Wall Street tycoons, and lobbyists that he denounced just a month ago. The current list:

Position Appointee Type
A.General Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL) Wash. insider
Sec.of HHS Rep. Tom Price (R-GA) Wash. insider r
Sec. of Edu. Betsy DeVos Lobbyist
U.N. Ambass. Gov. Nikki Haley (R-SC) State government
Sec. of Transport. Elaine Chao Wash. insider
Sec.of Treasury Steve Mnuchin Wall Street tycoon
Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross Wall Street tycoon
Chief of StaffRNC Chair Reince Priebus Wash. insider
Natl. Secu. Advisor Michael Flynn Wash. insider
Chief Strategist Steve Bannon Wall Street tycoon

What does this exercise tell us, beyond the fact that much of what Trump said on the campaign trail was hot air?

Well, first of all, it tells us that it's hard to staff an administration without drawing on certain unpopular classes of people—i.e., Washington insiders, lobbyists, and Wall Street tycoons. The only pick on Trump's list so far that does not fit into any of these categories is Nikki Haley, and her selection has raised questions around the country (and the world) about her qualifications for the job.

Beyond that, as the AP's Julie Pace and Josh Boak point out, this shows us that Trump is falling in line with his political party. The Cabinet (thus far) does not look much like a swamp draining, but it does look like a pretty traditional Republican cabinet. And so, Trump seems to be learning the same lesson as a number of his predecessors: An "outsider" campaign is all good and well, but the political parties exist (and have existed for centuries) for a reason. (Bates)

ERIC COTTONHAM: My name is Eric Cottonham and I’m representing the Steelworkers Union, Local 1999. And I’m trying to find out, what do we have left far us — all of our jobs are leaving Indianapolis. I see here you’re doing a lot of things, but in Indianapolis, there’s nothing there for us. I mean, what’s next? I mean, what can we look forward to in the future as far as jobs, employment, whatever? Because all of our jobs has left or in the process of leaving, sir.

PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA: Well, in fact, we’ve seen more manufacturing jobs created since I’ve been president than anytime since the 1990s. That’s a fact. And you know, if you look at just the auto industry as an example, they’ve had record sales and they’ve hired back more people over the last five years than they have for a very long, long time.

We actually make more stuff, have a bigger manufacturing base today than we’ve had in most of our history. The problems have been — part of the problems have had to do with jobs going overseas and this is one of the reasons why I’ve been trying to negotiate trade deals to raise wages and environmental standards in other countries, so that they’re not undercutting us.

But frankly, part of it has had to do with automation. You go into an auto factory today that used to have 10,000 people and now they’ve got 1,000 people making the same number of cars or more. And — so what that means is even though we’re making the same amount of stuff in our manufacturing sector, we’re employing fewer people.

Now, the good news is that there are entire new industries that are starting to pop up and you’re actually seeing some manufacturers coming back to the United States because they’re starting to realize, “You know what? Energy prices are lower here, workers are better here, this is our biggest market. And so even though we off-shored and went someplace else before, now it turns out we’re better off going ahead and manufacturing here.”

But for those folks who have lost their job right now because a plant went down the Mexico, that isn’t going to make you feel better. And so what we have to do is to make sure that folks are trained for the jobs that are coming in now because some of those jobs of the past are just not going to come back, and when somebody says, like the person you just mentioned who I’m not going to advertise for, that he’s going to bring all these jobs back, well how exactly are you going to do that? What are you going to do?

There’s — there’s no answer to it. He just says, “Well, I’m going to negotiate a better deal.” Well, how — what — how exactly are you going to negotiate that? What magic wand do you have? And usually, the answer is he doesn’t have an answer.

Democratic donors stung by Hillary Clinton’s upset loss in the presidential race feel like they just set their money on fire.

[...]

Democratic investors went in on Clinton to the tune of more than $550 million, believing she would dispatch Trump, deliver Democrats the Senate and help the party make inroads into the GOP’s House majority.

Many liberal donors also viewed the election as an opportunity to cement Obama’s legacy.

Instead, Democrats find themselves in the throes of a full-scale and expensive rebuilding project punctuated by a rudderless DNC that won’t elect a new leader until more than a month after Trump is sworn into office.

This David Brooks essay is a good read.

Perhaps some things whose time has come -- from bipolarity to multipolarity and floating coalitions with different power centers, with the most important caucus formation in the ideological center.

David Brooks says:
"Moreover, the future of this country is not going to be found in protecting jobs that are long gone or in catering to the fears of aging whites.

"There is a raging need for a movement that embraces economic dynamism, global engagement and social support — that is part Milton Friedman on economic policy, Ronald Reagan on foreign policy and Franklin Roosevelt on welfare policy."

Get Rid Of The Political Elite

The campaign slogan was "Make America Strong Again". Well, just like every other promise, he changed his mind.

Steven Mnuchin as secretary of the Treasury Department. He bought into banks during the home collapse. They owned thousands of mortgages.

They foreclosed on 36,000 home owners. . Sixty-eight percent of OneWest’s 36,000-plus foreclosures in California were in nonwhite areas.

He is the worst decision so far. Trump denounced Goldman Sachs, and more than one are on this list, up to date, except that are you kidding, Sarah ( I can see Russia From Alaska) Palin. Veterans Affairs 😱😱

The Swamp!

Commerce Secretary: Wilbur Ross
An ally during Trump’s election campaign, the 79-year-old Ross is the billionaire chairman of WL Ross & Co., an investment firm that specializes in corporate restructurings.
During the campaign, Ross often appeared on business news shows to explain Trump’s positions, sometimes softening or downplaying the candidate’s protectionist trade policies.
Ross built his estimated $2.9 billion fortune by snapping up distressed industrial businesses, such as steelmaker LTV. Ross might be best known to voters as the owner of Sago Mine, a West Virginia coal mine where a dozen miners lost their lives in a 2006 explosion. He called that tragedy “the worst week of my life.”
Treasury Secretary: Steven Mnuchin
Mr. Trump announced Wednesday morning that he’d selected Mnuchin, who served as the national finance chairman of Trump’s presidential campaign, for the top Treasury Department job. This has been widely expected since Mr. Trump won the race for the White House. Earlier this month, Mr. Trump’s transitionrecommended Mnuchin for the post.
Mnuchin is a veteran of the finance world, spending 17 years at Goldman Sachs. Others who were reportedly considered for the job include JP Morgan Chase & CO CEO Jamie Dimon and Rep. Jeb Hensarling (R-Texas).
Transportation Secretary: Elaine Chao
Elaine Chao, who served as labor secretary under President George W. Bush, is the first Asian-American woman to ever hold a Cabinet-level position. She served in the role from 2001 to 2009 — the only member of Bush’s Cabinet to serve through his entire eight years in the White House.
Before serving as labor secretary, Chao ran the United Way of America, was director of the Peace Corps and served as deputy treasury secretary under President George H.W. Bush. She is married to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Kentucky).

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

Health and Human Services Secretary: Tom Price
Price, a five-term congressman hailing from the Atlanta suburbs, is the chairman of the House Budget Committee. He’s an orthopedic surgeon by trade, and was an early supporter of Trump’s presidential candidacy.
Price has also been a strong advocate, like his fellow Republicans, of repealing Obamacare. Price favors expanding health savings accounts and providing tax credits for purchasing health coverage.
Education Secretary: Betsy DeVos
Betsy DeVos, a prominent charter school advocate from Michigan, has also chaired the state’s Republican party. She currently serves as chairwoman of the American Federation for Children, a school choice advocacy group.
She and her husband also head up the Dick and Betsy DeVos Family Foundation, which has supported projects like the West Michigan Aviation Academy, a public charter school in Grand Rapids and the Compass Film Academy, a Christian film school in Michigan.
The billionaire DeVos family also owns the NBA team, the Orlando Magic. Dick DeVos’ father founded Amway.
Attorney General: Jeff Sessions
Sessions has been one of Mr. Trump’s closest and most consistent allies, and he was the first senator to announce his support for the president-elect. An architect of Mr. Trump’s immigration, counterterrorism and trade policies, Sessions was also considered for secretary of defense.
Appointing him the nation’s top prosecutor is sure to be controversial, though: he’s been through the Senate confirmation process before, with mixed success. He did make it through a Republican-controlled Senate in 1981, when they approved him to be the U.S. attorney for the Southern District of Alabama. But then, nominated for a federal judgeship in 1986, Sessions, R-Ala., was dogged by accusations that he had made racist comments while serving as U.S. attorney.
CIA Director: Mike Pompeo
Pompeo, a Kansas congressman first elected during the tea party wave of 2010, serves on the Energy and Commerce and House Intelligence committees, and he also served on the House Select Benghazi Committee.
According to his website, he’s the former CEO of an oilfield company and also of an aerospace company he founded. And Pompeo is also a Harvard-trained lawyer who graduated first in his class at West Point.
National Security Adviser: Michael Flynn
Flynn, a lifelong Democrat, is a former head of the Defense Intelligence Agency(DIA) -- he was one of the highest-ranking national security officials supporting Trump, whom he also informally advised him on foreign policy during the primary campaign. He is also known to be a proponent of stronger ties with Russia, as well as a critic of President Obama.

IS Hillary still counting, a very strange thing given it will require her to concede to Trump for a 2nd Time.

Over the years I have found it is better to let the left hang themselves , it is so easy, just look at what they say, point out what they don't know and should and then let them swing on the end of the rope they bought and from the tree they hugged.

California Competes tax credit: Businesses of all sizes that want move ... They included Petco, which will receive $2.6 million for its plans to hire "

"The two-year, $200 million extension to the movie and television tax credit program has been signed into law by California Gov. Jerry Brown."

I have many more of this kind of behavior that the left is hating on , but, wait, CA is doing it.

These tax breaks – denounced as “corporate welfare” or praised as “business incentives” – totaled $889.3 million for aerospace and military contractors, and $389.4 million for entertainment and media companies, according topublic data compiled by the nonprofit Good Jobs First.

The biggest breaks went to two aerospace defense giants, Lockheed Martin and Northrop Grumman. In 2014, the Legislature approved a controversial bill aimed specifically at Lockheed, a key subcontractor for Boeing on a bid to build next-generation bombers for the Air Force. The bill granted Lockheed a tax credit of 17.5 percent of wages paid to its workers, worth $420 million over the 15-year life of the deal."

CA does it, and yet the unknowing blast the Workers of Carrier for keep their jobs,,,,,

The state's program, designed to stem runaway production, now ensures funding through 2017 of $100 million each year, as it has since 2009.

The two-year, $200 million extension to the movie and television tax credit program has been signed into law by California Gov. Jerry Brown. It ensures that there will be a program to stem runaway production at least through July 1, 2017.

The bill authored in the Assembly by Felipe Fuentes and pushed in the state Senate by Ron Calderon continues an annual outlay of $100 million a year to subsidize productions that are made in the state, with a special bonus for those TV series that return from out of state."

Jerry Brown loves them and so does Hollywierd.. So a little math,

2009 - 2017, that would be 8 years, at 100 million a year, that would be only a mere $800,000, yet HB was so very unaware that he pee'd his diaper over the workers at Carrier , and the incentive of 7 million, is this fun or what.

What is this nutz program, well, sit down and read, it is a Obama butt baby called "MyRA". what you never heard of it, you are not alone.

The myRA accounts allow people to make initial investments as small as $25, which will help lower-income people start saving, said Timothy Steffen, director of financial planning at Robert W. Baird & Co. in Milwaukee. The low balance threshold means myRA’s financial partner would have to rely on volume, given the administrative costs of opening such small accounts, he said.

While the goal of encouraging saving “is a positive, the implementation of it is a little bit less clear,” he said. “Certainly there will be people who use it, but I don’t think that this in and of itself will revolutionize retirement planning.”

No shit,, the plan can be opened with $25 dollars and new savings can be as little as $5, at that rate you die broke, but you feel good about it.

This is what liberalism is all about, embrace the suck.

election night why was there a 90 minute delay in calling states , I notice it from about mid night to around 1 pm central time, aka Fly Over State time.

Was it because the media knew that their fake stories against Trump had not worked and that the real voters did not buy them and voted for Trump.

The media was giving every state all the time they needed to count every vote, cheat for Hillary and still she could not win.

So now She is doing a do over , recount,,, looking for missing votes in three state, looking for that path to Victory, where their is none, going out very UNgraciously

Bernie Sanders: Carrier just showed corporations how to beat Donald Trump

We need a president who can stand up to big corporations, not fold to their demands.

By Bernie Sanders December 1 at 6:00 AM
Bernie Sanders is a U.S. senator from Vermont.

Donald Trump is going to have to toughen up if he wants to serve American workers. (Steven Senne/AP)
Today, about 1,000 Carrier workers and their families should be rejoicing. But the rest of our nation’s workers should be very nervous.

President-elect Donald Trump will reportedly announce a deal with United Technologies, the corporation that owns Carrier, that keeps less than 1,000 of the 2,100 jobs in America that were previously scheduled to be transferred to Mexico. Let’s be clear: It is not good enough to save some of these jobs. Trump made a promise that he would save all of these jobs, and we cannot rest until an ironclad contract is signed to ensure that all of these workers are able to continue working in Indiana without having their pay or benefits slashed.

In exchange for allowing United Technologies to continue to offshore more than 1,000 jobs, Trump will reportedly give the company tax and regulatory favors that the corporation has sought. Just a short few months ago, Trump was pledging to force United Technologies to “pay a damn tax.” He was insisting on very steep tariffs for companies like Carrier that left the United States and wanted to sell their foreign-made products back in the United States. Instead of a damn tax, the company will be rewarded with a damn tax cut. Wow! How’s that for standing up to corporate greed? How’s that for punishing corporations that shut down in the United States and move abroad?

In essence, United Technologies took Trump hostage and won. And that should send a shock wave of fear through all workers across the country.

Indiana is paying thousands of dollars per job.

President-elect Donald Trump announced Thursday night that he will "appoint" retired Marine Gen. James "Mad Dog" Mattis to be his secretary of defense. The two met in Bedminster, New Jersey, in November for an hour, after which Trump called Mattis the “real deal.”

Under the Appointments Clause of the U.S. Constitution, certain federal positions appointed by the president -- including secretary of defense -– require confirmation of the U.S. Senate.

Mattis most recently served as the head of U.S. Central Command. A lifelong bachelor, he is known as the “warrior monk” for his knowledge of ancient and military history.

The four-star general is revered by many for his leadership and also known for his blunt words.

Here are seven quotes -- or “Mattisisms” -- from the retired general on war, leadership and the U.S. Marines:

So Bernie Sanders would get "tough" on Carrier by insisting it pay big taxes and Carrier would just say "goodbye" I'm moving to Mexico.

Meanwhile instead of having a corporate citizen pay some taxes while keeping 1000 jobs who holders pay even more taxes, we get nothing and have to pay unemployment to those 1000 workers.

And you wonder why people voted for Trump.

WASHINGTON – Prominent Democrat, gay rights activist and Obama donor Terry Bean is taking a leave of absence from his post at the Human Rights Campaign after being arrested and indicted on two counts of third-degree sodomy and third-degree sexual abuse with a teenage boy.

Bean and his 25-year-old former boyfriend, Kiah Lawson, allegedly used the iPhone app Grindr to arrange a sexual encounter with a 15-year-old boy in a Eugene, Oregon hotel on Sept. 27, 2013.

Bean has donated almost $70,000 of his own money to Obama’s campaign and was responsible for raising at least a half million dollars during the 2012 election cycle.

Obama has publicly thanked Bean for his campaign contributions.

"I want to thank somebody who put so much work into this event, Terry Bean,” Obama said during a July 23, 2012 event in Portland. “Give Terry a big round of applause.”

I went even further out on the limb, that if it didn't sink Clinton it would still haunt her until the end of the election. You had a big horse-laugh about that - political instincts of a rock was one of the phrases. I think James wanted to wager again.

I guess my instincts weren't that bad after all, were they? You don't think that Trump will want to look into voter fraud in the millions, if he believes that it's possible or likely? And you want to wager? You're making the same mistake that James did. I don't bet on these things, but I probably will remind you after I'm proven right.

This town gives Trump a second look after the Carrier deal

INDIANAPOLIS — Steeling himself against the cold outside the Carrier air-conditioning plant on Thursday, Brian Dyson is ecstatic.

“Look, when Trump came here and said he was going to save jobs, I saw that as just another promise from a politician. Now I realize he is not a politician but a salesman and a deal-maker,” he said, pausing then adding, “And I kind of like it.”

Last week, President-elect Donald Trump stunned the nation when Carrier tweeted that they had worked out a deal with his team to save at least 1,000 of the 1,400 jobs that were set to be sent to Monterrey, Mexico next year.

When a victorious Trump, in his trademark red tie and blue suit, visited Carrier’s Indianapolis factory on Thursday, he was given a standing ovation by several hundred employees in the company auditorium.

Even among many of the workers who did not vote for the president-elect, the moment was electrifying. “To have the president-elect of the United States come to tell you ‘I have not forgotten you’, well that is a powerful moment for people who have felt as though their quest for dignified work and life was over,” said Dyson.

It's certainly not economic, free market conservatism, but empty platitudes about "creative destruction" ain't going to cut it anymore. Nor is any lame-ass proposal to retrain them into Walmart Greeters.

Commonsense said...

Sounds like James, with his dead certainty that Clinton would be President and always wanting to wager.

If I was convinced James would ever honor a bet he lost.

opie said...

All it shows menstral, is that trump is willing to interfere with free market forces by bribing them to stay with tax breaks which does cost taxpayers dearly and the proceeds are distributed to the stockholders and various other elites.

And you want to wager? You're making the same mistake that James did. I don't bet on these things, but I probably will remind you after I'm proven right.

Like the deal trump and HRC had that was broken by her???? Or that voters were against the recounts because it was settled. You mean predictions like that. All you are is a chicken with a lot of bluster who won't put up with his sure fire predictions. LOL

opie said...

political controversy, scandal and investigations. I went even further out on the limb, that if it didn't sink Clinton it would still haunt her

Very prescient WP. My cat predicted the same things. lol

wphamilton said...

It came to light, after I wrote that, that there WAS a private deal between Trump and Clinton. Either candidate was to concede within 15 minutes of the AP calling the race.

So yes, I was correct in that.

And of course most voters are opposed to the recounts. Even the WaPo and Huffington Post editorials are not disputing that fact.

You said that it was a tempest in a teapot, a manufactured scandal that would soon fade into obscurity. I expected more integrity than this.

wphamilton said...

And in yet another correct prediction, the Green Party is dropping the lawsuit in the Pennsylvania state court for a full recount. I had written here that it would go nowhere because she couldn't prove cause, and probably lacked legal standing for the particular cause of action.

Stein says that she'll file in a Federal Court, so I'll give you another chance at my being wrong about something. At this point, the GOP lawyers are apparently right that the PA effort simply intends to delay certification. Federal courts are reluctant to involve themselves in State elections, and if she does file it will be laughed out of court. In all probability, Stein is blowing smoke and there will be no Federal case filed for a state-wide recount in Pa.

opie said...

Even the WaPo and Huffington Post editorials are not disputing that fact.

That sure are opinions that supports your tenet, WP. A credible poll would work, but after the election, I doubt if any poll can be trusted. LOL But, again, you get an A for effort.

So yes, I was correct in that.

LOL. Seems to me that all the alleged reports of a deal where at best hearsay and the fact hillary conceded without question shows no deal was needed or made. You have no proof. Just a newsmax story.

You said that it was a tempest in a teapot,

I did???? I beg to differ with another of your made up claims. Please try again.

opie said...

Didn't the state ask for a million dollar bond? Me thinks that is what drove the decision to drop the recount. Suits have been filled with less standing than the green party. Seems there is more to come. I'll predict nothing, but I'm sure you will and then declare a pyrrhic victory.

Washington (CNN)Green Party presidential nominee Jill Stein said early Sunday she would "escalate" her statewide recount efforts in Pennsylvania through a federal lawsuit, after announcing she would drop it.

Stein on Saturday cited a major cost placed on voters due to a state court ruling that says the voters requesting the recount must pay a $1 million bond. But shortly after midnight Sunday Stein tweeted about plans to continue on the recount bid.
"On Monday, I will escalate #Recount2016 in PA and file to demand a statewide recount on constitutional grounds. The people deserve answers," she wrote.

wphamilton said...

If you want to deny the facts in evidence, I don't play that game any more. I will present the known facts, my analysis, and my speculations. Life is too short to waste time revisiting old citations.

If you want discussion with me, you're going to need to up your game. Otherwise I'm just going to ignore you.

wphamilton said...

Stein withdrew because this would prevail in the scheduled hearing

https://www.scribd.com/document/332935080/Objection-to-Recount-Petition

Which by the way, details the objections I raised earlier.

Litigants can say anything they want outside of the court, about why they're dropping an action. And politicians, almost always, will say something that they believe will appeal to the most constituents. The bond is an obvious red herring.

wphamilton said...

My mistake, that was for Michigan (see how easy that is?)
