The Democratic response was obviously made more difficult by what was quite obviously the best Trump speech he has given since announcing his intentions to run for President. I am sure they were expecting some lower hanging fruit to go after, but it wasn't to be. But let's go through some of it.
- The literal response was given by a former governor in what appeared to be a small town cafe. It had a strange, almost surreal quality. Quite honestly, I wasn't exactly sure what the point was. Were they trying to play to the small town elderly white crowd? Possibly, but I am not sure how this would appeal to their base (who had to feel a bit troubled by the positive reaction to Trump)
- Schumer and the Democrats demanded that Trump's speech was detached from reality. Trying to hit Trump on policy specifics, Schumer demanded that the speech would be forgotten, and that what people want is action. A funny thing for Schumer to say, when his stated intentions as Senate Minority leader is to try to oppose everything Trump does and bring action to a grinding halt.
- The liberal media pundits were split between providing some faint praise, while simultaneously trying to argue (similar to Schumer) that his speech was a combination of distortions, bait and switch, and irrelevant pulls to emotion. Again, did everyone forget that our last President passed two laws in his first year, then spent seven years defending them with speeches. He was all talk and no action. Hard to make the argument "today" that speeches don't matter, when the ability to give a speech is what propelled Obama to two terms.
- The fact checkers had a field day finding small irrelevant flaws or basically citing straw man attacks as a means to contradict what was said. For instance, the fact that many of the companies that have vowed to invest in jobs and production activities here in America may have had less to do with Donald Trump than might be implied, does not mean that these companies didn't made these commitments. The commitment (not who gets credit) is what matters. Moreover, fact checkers today seem to have difficulty staying on task. If Trump states something about statistic "A" - then it's not fact checking to counter with something about statistic "B". You cannot counter (as a fact checker) a murder rate in a specific town with statistics about overall crime nationwide. You cannot agree that something is correct, but then argue it wrong by providing your own clarity to said truth.
Overall, this was big night for Trump and the Republicans and therefor a tough one for Democrats. For no other reason than it puts the Democrats on the defensive, rather than where they expected to be. I heard a lot about how Trump "became President" or how last night's speech "normalized" him. This is actually the "last" thing Democrats want to hear, as most of their strategy revolves around their ability to undermine and delegitimize President Trump. I am not even sure that they have a plan "B".

"The Democratic bench is so depleted they've turned to a 72-year-old former governor with absolutely no political future to give their prime-time response," Reed said a statement. "They literally have no rising up-and-comer to elevate. Out-of-power, leaderless, and in the midst of a raging ideological civil war, 2017 is truly a sad time to be a Democrat."
Oh, it's awful to be a small regional party, with no power, wandering in the wilderness. Wait that's not the R's.....

The lame stream media is in full throat attacking him, Michelle Mooron was saying the Speech was pulled from Hitler.
What I like about the speech the most is he looked at the DEMS and told them how they need to do their jobs and work for ALL AMERICANS.
Americans that watch and their where one hell of a lot of them saw a guy that is for the people , for this country and for improvement of the lives of others.

yet another one of ol' rog's political prognostications turns to shit.
is anyone keeping track of how many failed predictions we're up to?
All things considered, it was a definite improvement over most of his unhinged comments since he took office. His show business experience was evident in his delivery.
Most of the anti American people analysis media of the speech was fairly positive. He stuck to the canned speech for most of the time. Although he made some comments that were misleading, but nothing outrageous.
Most of the speech won't be remembered. The part of it was the widow of Ryan, who's look to heaven was deeply emotional. She brought me to tears. Yes, I'm an emotional human being.
But, and you knew that this was coming. His comment on the length of the applause was so typically of his need to be number one, was exhibited.
One of the hardest parts of being President, is reaching out to the families who lost a loved one. But, and you know it was coming, was his comment that the operation in Kenya was a success. Most of the experienced military comments were negative. For two reasons.
1: He had previously commented that the problems with the operation were Obama's fault. This time he said it was a success. It was NOT a success, they didn't get the target of the operation, and 13 civilians, including several children were killed.
2: He was having dinner when the call came in, he just said go, then continued his meal. The President of the United States, should be in the situation room, not enjoying a meal while American lives are at stake.
It will be lost behind the emotional aspects of his speech. But it should not be forgotten or forgiven.
The President of the United States, should be in the situation room, not enjoying a meal while American lives are at stake.

An attack we now know was a planned operation and not due to some internet video.
Donald Trump never lied to the widow of William Ryan Owens like Obama and Clinton lied to the relatives of those killed in the Benghazi attack.
But you think Trump "should not be forgotten or forgiven".

The "8 Lost Years" are over, the carnage to the black family has been horrific.
More are on food stamps for their daily meal
less are employed
less own their homes
less are starting up business
less are female start ups
We have tracked this over the "8 lost years" there are more , but it was summed up by our good black friend Liberal and Yuge Obama in-bed PBS tv talk show host (still on the air and doing well , as well as the 1st Amendment) Travis Smiley:
"“
Megyn Kelly: On the subject of race, are we better off today that seven years ago?
Tavis Smiley: I’m not sure we are and I think ultimately the president missed a moment… On every leading economic issue, in the leading economic issues Black Americans have lost ground in every one of those leading categories. So in the last ten years it hasn’t been good for black folk. This is the president’s most loyal constituency that didn’t gain any ground in that period. "
The left loves Megyn Kelly , so this was a two-fer.

The early television news reviews of the Trump presidency are in and they are not good — not even on Fox News.
This is based on a new analysis by Media Tenor, an international, independent media research firm. Trained analysts examined 370 news stories about Donald Trump on the “NBC Nightly News,” “CBS Evening News” and Fox News “Special Report” between Jan. 20 and Feb. 17.
Why focus on these outlets? Although the audience for the evening national newscasts has shrunk, they consistently draw well over 20 million viewers and shape the political discourse on social media, local television news and elsewhere. Television news remains a highly important source of information among the citizens most likely to vote. Fox News has an especially devoted following among conservatives.
Here is what this analysis found. Only 3 percent of the reports about Trump that aired on NBC and CBS were positive, while 43 percent were negative and 54 percent were neutral.
On “Special Report,” the Fox News program that most closely resembles the evening network news, 25 percent of the reports about Trump were negative, compared with 12 percent positive and the remainder neutral. In other words, even the conservative-leaning Fox News featured twice as much bad press as good press.
The networks differed in their emphases. Fox News focused on personnel decisions in the new White House, and coverage of that issue area was more positive than negative by a ratio of 2 to 1. Another bright spot for Trump was Fox’s coverage of economic news: There was mostly positive coverage of the new president’s initiatives that are intended to strengthen the international competitiveness of U.S. business.
CBS and NBC focused more on Trump’s immigration policy and whether he was respecting U.S. constitutional norms such as separation of powers. Most of these news reports were far more negative than positive. But CBS and NBC coverage of Trump’s international diplomacy was more positive than negative, but there were fewer stories on that topic than on others.
Of course, the news media’s role as a monitor of government usually leads to at least some negative news. But the negative coverage of Trump seems unusual. Our previous research in “The Global President” found that President Barack Obama received much less negative coverage than Trump has received at the start of their respective presidencies.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/monkey-cage/wp/2017/02/28/news-coverage-of-trump-is-really-really-negative-even-on-fox-news/?dg&utm_term=.77dc2026b9db

A former Hillary Clinton volunteer drew swift condemnation -- and lost his job -- after mocking the widow of a fallen Navy SEAL who was honored by the president during his congressional address Tuesday night.
Dan Grilo, who said in his Twitter profile that he was a former volunteer for both Hillary Clinton and President Barack Obama, made the remarks after Trump paid tribute to Carryn Owens. She is the widow of U.S. Navy SEAL William “Ryan” Owens, who was killed in a counterterrorism raid in Yemen last month.

“I think his change of tone,” Trumka said during an interview on the FOX Business Network, “signaled he’s about to start doing business rather than playing for the camera—that was a good sign.”
Trumka pointed out President Trump’s comments on illegal immigration and the three-decade long stagnate wage issue in America. Even though he would have preferred to hear more from Trump on this, he said he’s willing to partner with the White House to tackle these issues.
“Talking about trade the way he has, doing away with TPP was good, talking about redoing NAFTA is good… and will we partner with him? Absolutely,” he said. “Will we partner with him to try to rewrite the immigration rules of the country? Absolutely because those will help workers, it will decrease the imbalance between corporate America and workers.”
Trumka added he would also like see Trump follow up on his promises to boost the working class.
“[Workers] have been beat down for four decades…If you come from rural America or Appalachia, where I come from, workers just feel like they’ve been left behind.” He noted this was a big reason why Trump won the election."

Then-Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.) spoke twice last year with Russia’s ambassador to the United States, Justice Department officials said, encounters he did not disclose when asked about possible contacts between members of President Trump’s campaign and representatives of Moscow during Sessions’s confirmation hearing to become attorney general.
One of the meetings was a private conversation between Sessions and Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak that took place in September in the senator’s office, at the height of what U.S. intelligence officials say was a Russian cyber campaign to upend the U.S. presidential race.
....Officials said Sessions did not consider the conversations relevant to the lawmakers’ questions and did not remember in detail what he discussed with Kislyak.
That was Mike Flynn's initial answer too, wasn't it? That he "didn't remember" the details of a conversation from less than half a year ago.
