Democrats upset over Trump Judicial picks...

Franken not consulted over Minnesota Judge nominated for Circuit Court
President Donald Trump’s judicial nominees are ignoring key Senate Democrats as they vie for lifetime appointments to the bench — a break from longstanding practice that diminishes the minority’s power to provide a check against ideologically extreme judges.
The brewing tension between the White House and the Senate over filling an unusually high number of judicial vacancies is impeding the pace at which Trump installs lifetime appointees to the federal bench — so far one of the president’s few major victories, with his legislative agenda largely stymied in Congress. (politico)

In the case of the Minnesota Judge, I have heard quite a bit about this locally. This is a conservative Judge who is so well respected that he has gotten pretty much universal praise from Minnesota's judicial community.  Even the very liberal former Minnesota Supreme Court Justice (and former Viking defensive tackle) Alan Page approves of the pick. Rumor has it, that he finally did a "sack dance" after hearing about it.... (Bud Grant never allowed such tomfoolery when he was coach).

But neither Al Franken or Amy Klobuchar were consulted prior, and neither has returned their "blue slip" (designed to give approval of the local nominee).  While the blue slip tradition is longstanding, it has (on occasion) been ignored. The buzz in Minnesota is that both are more than willing to give their approval (they really have no justification not to)... but are looking to cut a deal where Trump takes their advice on who he appoints as United States Attorney for Minnesota. Unlikely Trump will appoint a liberal U.S. Attorney to carry out his interests in Minnesota.

The bottom line seems to be that for whatever else is going on right now... the Trump Presidency is making an important impact on the Judicial branch, with an unprecedented amount of nominees for an unprecedented amount of high level openings. The Democrats, of course, are looking to slow roll these confirmations as much as possible. The problem remains that if they decide to push things like "blue slips" too hard, McConnell and gang can simply choose (as they did with the filibuster of Supreme Court nominees) to ignore tradition.

If 88 approves, everyone should!! He's still the man and didn't run 90 yards the wrong way

It seems a bit misleading, since 45 of 48 of his non-DC judicial nominations are all in states that Trump won outright. Because of the "blue slip" tradition having both Senators from the state sign off on it.

Democrat Jon Ossoff, who lost a recent special election in Georgia, will be on a panel this Saturday explaining how to win elections during the 2018 midterms.

Breaking.....

It is being reported that John McCain is a major source of the leaks against Trump.

No doubt more information to follow

Democrat Jon Ossoff ... a randomly picked voter in the district would probably do a better job, at least explaining why Ossoff lost.

Although to be fair, until the Democrats actually win one somewhere they don't have much to choose from other than losing candidates.

Republicans Face More Anger Over Health Care

“The long August congressional recess, which Republicans hoped would begin a conversation about tax reform and must-pass budget measures, has so far seen another round of angry town halls focused on President Trump and the stalled effort to repeal the Affordable Care Act,” the Washington Post reports.

“Over just one day, in three small towns along Georgia’s Atlantic coastline, Rep. Earl “Buddy” Carter (R-GA) spent more than four hours answering 74 questions, many of them heated. Just three focused on tax reform; nearly half of all questions focused on health care… Carter’s town halls — he is hosting nine total, more than any member of the House — mirrored what was happening in swing and safe Republican districts across the country.”

Majority Say It Was Good Obamacare Repeal Failed

The Kaiser Health Tracking Poll finds that 60% of the public say it is a “good thing” that the Senate did not pass the bill that would have repealed and replaced the Affordable Care Act.

Key finding: 78% think President Trump and his administration should do what they can to make the current health care law work while just 17% say they should do what they can to make the law fail so they can replace it later.

Freedom Caucus Wants to Force Health Care Vote

“The conservative House Freedom Caucus will file a petition today to try to force Speaker Paul Ryan to bring up a so-called ‘clean Obamacare repeal’ bill,” according to Politico.

“The legislation passed the House and Senate in the past — it repeals Obamacare after a two-year transition period. (It failed the Senate this year.) If the discharge petition — which will get filed during today’s pro-forma session — gets 218 signatures, it will force a floor vote. The Freedom Caucus and conservative outside groups will try to ramp up lots of pressure to force people to sign on. Expect Trump — itchy for victory, and frustrated with Republican leaders on health care — to weigh in. He’s close with some members of the Freedom Caucus.”

Lose the White House and Senate pay the cost, that's what it works.

That's why the Democrats to get their shit together take House of Representatives and the US Senate next election.

Then they can remove the mentally incompetent and dangerous president Donald J Trump.

Minnesota Rep. Keith Ellison, the vice chairman of the Democratic National Committee, claimed on Friday that Kim Jong Un, the Supreme Leader of North Korea, is a “more responsible” leader than President Trump.

Ellison later retracted his comment, which were made at the Netroots Nation conference, an annual gathering of left-wing and progressive activists.

“North Korea is a serious thing. You have this guy making bellicose threats against somebody else who has very little to lose over there,” said during the conference, referring to Trump as making the “bellicose threats.”

“Kim Jong Un? The world thought he was not a responsible leader. Well, he’s acting more responsible than this guy is,” Ellison continued.

Gasps could be heard from the crowd of left-wing activists when Ellison made his remarks.

According to Washington Post reporter Dave Weigel, Ellison retracted the statement shortly after.

Trump may have fabricated a faux nuclear standoff with North Korea to distract attention from what Mueller is finding out about his crimes.
