A somber speech. He didn't use the usual rhetoric. He said that the reality of being President. He was very general, not many specifics. He didn't say anything the number of troops, or if any.

He has been confronted with the reality of the war in Afghanistan. He is going to get Pakistan and India to coordinate with us on the plan to destroy the Taliban. Pakistan has been our "allie" but they have given Taliban fighters refuge. I hope that he can get them to stop that, and perhaps get even more involved in the defeat of the Taliban.

In a quick summary. He made a sincere effort to unite the country behind him as the President. I watched the entire time, and saw a man who faced the reality of the punt stops there.

We can't just walk away.

In general, it was somber, and responsible. Bush and Obama faced the same reality. There probably is no way to achieve a conventional outcome.
A solid and sober look at reality. Well done.

That is my response I did not look at any coverage from media liberal or conservative or anybody those are my thoughts my thoughts alone. You may believe it or not but that's the truth sir and please don't accuse me of being demented or something like that. I am just sick and tired of that crap and you know better than that because I'm not.

The irony is that Obama said when he made some moves on that they, are almost identical . Is an almost impossible situation and is trying to do the best he can just like Obama did, it's a mess.

I give them a lot of credit. He was sober responsible and none of crazy right wing attacks on Obama in the past. I thought he just was the president speaking to the country.

It maybe possible in the next 3 1/2 years he will declare victory and pull out. But I just don't think that's going to happen. Whether he completes his first term or happens very unlikely to have a second term, most likely that the problem will be passed on to the next president. it's an impossible situation there is no good outcome from our point of view.

George W. Bush just said it's your problem now. And in ways Obama did the same thing . How much longer will be embroiled in this situation? If you got a good idea, write to the President and give him a solution, he sure as hell needs something to do better than what we have right now .

This goes in the for more detail but that's simply interesting that the conclusions in many ways parallel mine . I took the speech very seriously because this can be the defining moment in any president's term in office . So to stay one more time I do not hate the man. I despise him but in this case he did very well given the situation . Afghanistan is a unsolvable issue is doing the best he can draw situations and perhaps just maybe perhaps some kind of miracle may happen and we actually succeed but I wouldn't do $0.10 on it.

I am going to have to stop using the microphone . I spend more time editing my voice than actually writing it . The voice recognition software is very good but, from Google but it is not perfect and I speak very clearly.

We shouldn't be operating in Afghanistan in the first place, and we're about 10 years overdue for extricating ourselves.

The Taliban are a regional problem, and Pakistan and India are more likely to take active steps to contain them if we're not there taking the brunt of it.

sure we can. and we should. we have no national interest in remaining.

what we could do on our way out is remind the planet of our nuclear superiority. those who survive the blasts wouldn't have much if any redecorating to do. and "whoa, fat!" in NK would get to see what it looks like when you launch a real nuke.

But according to the Donnie......it is a haven for ISIS and that' who needs to be contained....as to 11 years too late.....it really is 16 years IMHO.. Thanks W the gift that keeps on giving.....

https://www.nytimes.com/2017/08/22/us/politics/mitch-mcconnell-trump.html?_r=0

Conflict between president Mitch McConnell and Trump has affected the agenda and may never be passed. McDonald stated that president does not understand legislative process. He is unwilling to study it so he can understand it.

In regards to the speech last night president was strongly opposed to the increase of troops and commitment to Afghanistan he thought he got rather angry about it . Generals eventually convinced him to have to do what they say because otherwise the danger to the country is far outweighs any political helpfulness that pulling out would help at home . It appears that perhaps just perhaps Donald Trump is finally realizing that he's no longer the real boss even though he is the president, he has to rely on others and believes that it the only choice because he doesn't know what the hell is going on!

KD said...

Excuses of inaction. McConnell will be fired, by the voters.

KD said...

HB, TRUMP is a rube that beat the granny panties of your gurl.

Commonsense said...

McConnell may very well be primaried. He needs to prove he can govern his own caucus.

The president is not the problem he'll sign almost anything a Republican congress will send him.

If he get's into a pissing contest with Trump, he'll lose.

So will everybody else.

Apparently, even being Asian doesn’t mean people won’t take you for being a white nationalist.

According to the popular college-football blog Outkick the Coverage, ESPN pulled an Asian announcer from calling a University of Virginia football game. The announcer’s name is Robert Lee.

“Did I mention that Robert Lee is Asian?” blogger Clay Travis asked rhetorically in a post that poured scorn over the popular sports network for political correctness, calling it “MSESPN.”

wphamilton said...

"Does ESPN really believe people are this dumb or that having an Asian announcer named Robert Lee is too offensive for the average TV viewer to handle?” Mr. Travis asked rhetorically.
“Yes, yes they do,” he answered."

No, they don't. What blogger Clay Travis was afraid to say was that ESPN believes that minority viewers are this dumb. He was afraid to call out the network's racist attitude.

Now ESPN are "racist" ???????

You will all love the Phoenix Arizona speech tonight. He went nuclear, and destroyed his Presidency.

He has destroyed the necessary alignment between the congress and his administration.

Boom!

In tone and content it was pretty much a boilerplate Trump rally.

Of course people who hate him will have the vapors.

I’ve learned from Twitter in the last week that not only is the Trump White House chock full of white nationalists, but that also extends to Attorney General Jeff Sessions, along with the entire Republican Party. When Republicans like Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio denounce Nazis, that doesn’t mean they’re not Nazis, it just means they’re posturing. Paul Ryan “owns” Nazism just by being a Republican, I guess. Oh, and unless he’s actually impeaching Trump, he’s a brownshirt.

People who complain about calling everybody Nazis are Nazis. Anyone who points out that there were also violent, anti-democracy anarcho-Communist “Antifa” demonstrators in Charlottesville is simply making excuses for Nazis—even if they work for the New York Times.

This isn’t even guilt by association. It’s guilt by free association, and it seems almost calculated to prevent the overwhelming number of people who oppose fascism and white nationalism from making common cause with one another. There are a lot of people who are taking an issue that somewhere around 99 percent of Americans ought to be able to agree on—”Nazis are bad”—and trying to make it into a repellently partisan issue. It is as if they need us to be Nazis. If every one of them is Simon Wiesenthal, they’d better find an awful lot of Eichmanns. They need everyone who is not a card-carrying supporter of their political movement to be a total evil that justifies unlimited reprisal: from getting people fired from their jobs to beating them with sticks in the streets.

The Free Press is an enemy of the state.

They echo the words of Joseph Stalin .

He threatens to shut down the government to build his wall.

He held up a piece of paper and quoted himself but he didn't put the closing line "and all sides are at fault" he ignored that and left that out on purpose to the cheers of the almost 100% white voters.

When he said that he prefaced it with this "these are my words." The implication is that the speech made yesterday was written by others and he had no choice but to make it.

In this speech last night lasting over an hour. He lost every bit of goodwill and appreciation for him from the speech on Tuesday night . His photo is little bitty base about 35% of the voters and that is not uniting the country. Even I praise this speech on Tuesday night.

The unfortunate truth is that even though this is just total insanity, it again will fade into the distance and he will continue to do his irresponsible behavior and nobody in the White House or the Congress or the Senate is really going to do anything about it.

Some pundits are stating that if he continues to attack certain Republican senators that couldn't eventually lead to them being replaced by pro-Trump nominees who will be replaced by Democrats. This is more likely in the center of the house no doubt about that. But I am seeing evidence of a tea party in reverse coming up in certain congressional districts. Especially in districts that voted for Obama once or twice but under voting this time for Donald Trump. Given the fact that 65% of the people do not approve of this man that could translate to votes in the off year election of 2018. Historically the party of power and power suffers defeats in the off year elections because of problem issues. There is a very good chance of endorsement of Donald Trump's going to be the nail in the coffin of the Congressional majority.

The lingering effect of the speech in my opinion is that his ability to get his agenda passed in the house and the Senate is dead he cannot get it passed.

Some believe of the defeat of Mitch McConnell would help everything. That's a fiction it's a dream and has no basis in fact. If Donald Trump what's up candidate in the Republican primary against McConnell I really don't think he stands a chance in hell. That would also apply to Jeff Flake in Nevada and others.

If both the House and the Senate go to the Democrats in 2018 on January 2 of 2019 the first agenda on her house the House of Representatives will start impeachment hearings of Donald J Trump. The basic reason is he is not mentally fit to hold the office . I may not be a psychologist but I know humans behavior pretty well. I've been an observer of people my whole life I've seen crazy people and he is one of the worst.

The Photoshop picture that I cannot poster showing the head of the President, blowing up in a nuclear explosion. It is appropriate for what happened last night, he completely destroyed his only chance of being a successful president in one 1 1/2 hour speech.

I'm sure this will stimulate some intellectual discussions.

now why would you say that, alky?

you obviously approve of the attempts by pro publica and others to silence voices on the right.

and your views must align with the skidmore college prof who would deny first amendment rights to those on the right.

"They echo the words of Joseph Stalin "

the left's infatuation with stalin goes back to the FDR administration when they fawned over the beauty of uncle joe's potemkin villages.

you see alky, your little rants are really nothing more than exercises in psychological projection. what you accuse US of wanting or doing is what you fascist actually ARE doing.

you simply cannot tolerate an opposing viewpoint, so you therefore endorse the violence of antifa to silence those with whom you disagree.

keep ranting, alky. with every rant you expose yourself to be nothing more than pathetic hack who wishes to silence your political opponents by any means necessary.
