GOP Claims They’re Close Again to Repealing Obamacare

Vox: “Senate Republicans are trying to build momentum for a last-gasp bill to replace the Affordable Care Act, swearing that they are once again just a few votes short of delivering on their seven-year pledge. The health law’s supporters are trying to regalvanize the base that helped beat back previous repeal attempts, worried about being caught off-guard by a new plan that nobody took seriously until recently.”
“An imminent deadline is fueling the sense of urgency: Republicans have until the end of the month to act on a repeal bill. Otherwise, they’d need to start the process over at the very beginning — by passing a new budget resolution — or win Democratic support for it. Neither is particularly appealing, so this could very well be the GOP’s last shot for the foreseeable future.”

The manufacturer of the $2.36 million Baltimore Bike Share system said his company has never experienced the level of theft that caused officials to announce a temporary shutdown of the program to allow additional locking devices to be installed to the bike docks.

The original locks on the bike stations were overwhelmed by thieves ripping the bicycles out at an unprecedented pace, said Alain Ayotte, CEO of Bewegen Technologies, the Canadian manufacturer.

“We don’t have this issue anywhere else, not at this level,” Ayotte said Wednesday. “Our locking system is recognized [as] very, very up to industry standard, but due to the issues that occurred in Baltimore this summer, we did add additional security.”

And the other problem was that at best you can only go about 250 miles on a tank of gas less when there is gridlock on the interstate.

ah yes. the awesomeness that is single payer health care:

The NHS has apologized to a man left crippled after doctors failed to spot a broken neck for three years – and even told him to take up tai chi.

Ex-window cleaner Malcolm Hewer, 66, fell from the top of a ladder outside a nursing home in September 2010.

He landed on his head and was knocked out, fracturing his neck, injuring his back and crushing his left wrist.

He was rushed to the hospital complaining of pain in his neck and tingling all down his right arm and legs.

But doctors merely plastered up his smashed left wrist and sent him home in agony.

Hewer spent months protesting that he was in constant pain and at one point was sent to tai chi classes.

After a catalog of lost scans and delayed appointments, doctors finally spotted the crushed bones in his neck three years later.

http://nypost.com/2017/09/14/doctors-took-three-years-to-realize-i-had-a-broken-neck/

Commonsense said...

I was looking at that. I prefer propane over gasoline because engine runs quieter. However I would also need a propane tank large enough to provide 144 hours of continuous running.

That would be enough time for either the power to be restored or the roads be clear enough for another propane delivery.

Just for comparison, a small gasoline generator with enough amperage to power the refrigerator and a few lights runs through 5 gallons of gasoline a day. Day 3 after the storm is gasoline day as people are refilling their gas cans.

September 16 “The Trump administration on Friday escalated a battle with government ethics groups by declining, even in the face of a federal court order, to release the identities of individuals visiting with President Trump at his family’s Mar-a-Lago resort during the days he has spent at the private club in Palm Beach, Fla., this year,” the New York Times reports.

Trump Won’t Withdraw from Paris Climate Deal

“Trump administration officials said Saturday the U.S. wouldn’t pull out of the Paris Agreement, offering to re-engage in the international deal to fight climate change,” the Wall Street Journal reports.

“The shift from President Trump’s decision in June to renegotiate the landmark accord or craft a new deal came during a meeting of more than 30 ministers led by Canada, China and the European Union in Montreal.”
However: “The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment.”

That was sometime yesterday. I'm sure THE DONALD is by now saying something different. See the following post.

About that loser in the White House James said...

The Most Incoherent Politician Ever?

Max Boot: “This ambiguity, indeed downright incoherence, makes Trump the most maddening politician anyone has ever tried to analyze. He contradicts himself constantly and unashamedly… The only constant is Trump’s egomania and impetuosity. He will say or do anything that, at that very moment, is likely to stoke his ego. The next moment he may do something entirely different. Like a small child, he seldom seems to think about the consequences of his actions or plan ahead. He just acts and hopes for the best.

“You can make the case that Trump’s incoherence is his greatest strength because it allows him to appeal to all sides—and his greatest weakness because it means that no one trusts him. Because just about anything you say about him is both true and false.”

YEP. JUST AS PREDICTED:

White House says no change in position on Paris climate agreement
.
The White House said Saturday it has not changed its position on the Paris climate accord and will withdraw from the agreement that President Trump has called unfair to the United States unless it can be re-negotiated.

The statement came in response to published reports by the Wall Street Journal and AFP that a top European climate official said the U.S. would “not re-negotiate the Paris Accord, but will try to review the terms on which they could be engaged under this agreement."

The climate official, Miguel Arias Canete, was meeting with ministers from some 30 countries in Montreal on Saturday to push forward on implementing the Paris deal without the U.S.

The White House swiftly denied any change in its stance on the landmark deal.

"There has been no change in the United States' position on the Paris agreement,” the White House said in a statement. “As the president has made abundantly clear, the United States is withdrawing unless we can re-enter on terms that are more favorable to our country."

White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders tweeted: "Our position on the Paris agreement has not changed. @POTUS has been clear, US withdrawing unless we get pro-America terms."

In June, Trump said the United States would begin the three-year process for withdrawing while simultaneously signaling he was willing to reconsider if the United States could get more favorable terms.

“So we're getting out, but we will start to negotiate, and we’ll see if we can make a deal that’s fair,” Trump said.

Hillary Clinton’s unintentionally hilarious and incessantly whiny presidential race memoir, What Happened, hit bookstores and Amazon this week and the response has been amazing. In the weeks prior to publication, people expected Hillary to rant and rave and blame and moan and deflect all personal responsibility in the long-winded tome. Lordy… she did not disappoint.

Anonymous said...

I felt it only fitting, since most of us saw this coming, to share some of the best unnecessary headlines critics had to offer. So without further ado, here are the week’s most pointless and uproariously funny stories concerning What Happened:

Anonymous said...

1. "We All Know What Happened, Hillary: You're A Loser! Now Get Over It And Give The Rest Of Us A Break" (DailyMail)

I’m usually not a fan of Piers Morgan and his arrogant, British-accented, self-righteousness, but boy does he nail it in this article. He’s correct of course: we all know "what happened." Hillary Clinton was a terrible, corrupt, untrustworthy candidate, who ran an abysmal campaign that alienated half the country (a specialty of the Democrats).

His analysis of her campaign strategy is spot on:

“Hillary ran a diabolically elitist and blinkered campaign that basically boiled down to this mantra: ‘Trump’s disgusting, his supporters are a basket of deplorable idiots, I’m a brilliant woman, my husband used to be President, and I have lots of rich, famous friends — so vote for me.’”

Anonymous said...

2. "Hillary Clinton's Book Signing Was As Insufferable As You'd Expect" (New York Post)

“Among the enduring criticisms of Hillary Clinton: Her sense of entitlement is limitless. She’s tone-deaf and doesn’t understand the average American — nor does she care to. Her greed is insatiable.”

Clinton was more than 40 minutes late to her kickoff book signing, and according to Callahan, failed to apologize to, or even address her crowd of sycophantic supporters.

James: In June, when the President announced the withdrawal. He stated this:

“I’m fighting every day for the great people of this country,” Trump said at a press conference in the White House Rose Garden. “Therefore, in order to fulfill my solemn duty to protect America and its citizens, the United States will withdraw from the Paris climate accord.”

Trump said he was willing to “immediately work with Democratic leaders” either to “negotiate the U.S. back into Paris” or devise a new pact.

So what Huckabee Sanders stated - is exactly the same position that Trump and the White House had back in June.

It's like some reporter suddenly noticed that the President has always stated that they would certainly consider renegotiating a new agreement that was more favorable to the U.S....

Demanded that it meant something different.

And idiots like you (who never, ever take the time to research anything) bought it... hook, line, and sinker.

_____________

“I think under the right conditions, the president said he’s open to finding those conditions where we can remain engaged with others on what we all agree is still a challenging issue.”

This is basically the statement after the "but".

We similarly understand that the pregnant woman is also a life of sacred worth, and that there are circumstances in which the needs of the woman may justify abortion.

UMC statement on abortion.

There's only one need that justifies an abortion. That is to save the mother's life.

Saying "that there are circumstances in which the needs of the woman may justify abortion. pretty much cancels all their previous moral objections against abortion since those "needs" are determined by the woman herself.

So yes, the UMC is trying to have it both ways by placating their conservative members about abortion will still supporting the unrestricted access to abortion.

I'm not prepared to say that absolutely.

JAMES'S FUCKING DADDY said...

Reading back I see CHT called james an idiot too. Pretty easy to see why. Some people just shouldn't be on the internet, sad as that is.

Commonsense said...

No James, it's because you are too gutless to answer a simple moral question.

For a suppose pastor, you sorely lack the moral courage and wisdom one requires of your position.

I suppose that is one of the many reasons you were fired.

Loretta said...

CS if you'll recall, he wouldn't even condemn Gosnell...

The "pastor" has no moral compass.

James said...

"If you recall..."

No, I do not recall. Must be another lie like your lying about the elders firing me.

Smiling, James said...

Commonsense once again shows that he is a total and shameless liar. If he really believed I was fired from the Bellflower church, he would prove it. The seven elders of that church and the Regional Minister of Illinois-Wisconsin would be glad to tell him whether or not I left that church in good standing and whether or not I was again present at their 125th anniversary celebration. Those are facts that would be easy to disprove, but he knows he can’t.

It does my heart good to show him and "Loretta-Savagetta" up for the unprincipled liars that they are.

Loretta said...

Yes, James I believe you were fired. The mear fact that you left Bellflower church without taking a permanent position someplace else tells me you didn't leave voluntarily.

Trump did both:

remove us from the Paris climate deal because it was a bad deal for the United States

and....

offered that a better deal for the United States could be negotiated.

The fact that you cannot reconcile this in your own brain (and see them as two "different" positions...

Is why your intelligence needs to be questioned.

James said...

Ch, as I pointed out at 11:41 AM above, you are apparently questioning the intelligence of Trump supporters who are arguing over whether he did or did not remain consistent on the withdrawal from the Paris Treaty.

By the way, Liar-Loretta and Common-Liar consider you a monster because you stated that the United Methodist Church's position on abortion is "reasonable" -- unless, of course, you will now pull a Trump and claim you never said that.

A majority of Americans do not trust Trump to handle the North Korean situation. A fine state of affairs!

Now he is not going to scuttle the treaty with Iran, as he fervently promised he would. His base is enraged.

More and more responsible Republican leaders are saying No Coast to Coast Long Wall. His base says their will be one. So does he. Nobody believes that.

Trump is now playing footsie with hated Democrats, enraging his base. The GOP is going through living hell.

Looks like it's his intelligence and integrity that need questioning. And yours.

James - the facts are the facts.

Trump then, Trump a month ago, Trump today... has always been 100% consistent with what he stated. We are out of Paris, unless those Countries want to renegotiate a "better deal" with Trump.

Does it actually matter what group of people might want to argue that two plus two does not equal four?

There are people (on both sides) who are easily confused when news media misreports on issues like this. Another case of some "source" who reports to some "reporter" something that sounds like news, but really isn't.

But it's your choice James.

You can follow the facts.
