Cowboys kneel - Fans boo!!

To be clear, I am not watching the game, I simply saw this on ESPN when I went on the site for other reasons. But watching the video, there was not a "spattering of boos" as some describe it, but a fairly loud expression of displeasure from the fans.

I have to ask...

Vikings used to actually practice
standing at attention for anthem
when Bud Grant was their coach.
Are these people "that" clueless? Who are they attempting to actually impress, other than themselves? The people in the stands (who are largely middle aged white working class Americans) are not impressed... and do these people forget that the fans actually pay their salaries?

Moreover, as has been pointed out... nobody has expressed any "clear" understanding of what it is that they are protesting (other than protesting the President himself). A stupid thing to do when (again) your audience is largely middle age white working class Americans. Two thirds of them probably voted for Trump, ninety percent of them think Colin Kaepernick is a clown, most all of them believe that the national anthem means something, and most actually "do" wish an owner would actually discipline their players for showing disrespect for their flag.

I heard it this morning on a sports talk radio show, and I believe they might be right. The NFL is on a downward spiral, and in ten years or so... the entire product will be a shadow of what we know it to be now. This may not be the true beginning to the end (that probably started a while back)... but it's certainly an escalation of the process.

We have Puerto Rico is a total disaster, and the repeal and replace of the ACA and what was he doing? Tweeting about what happened on a football field. Why in hell do you ignore the stupidity of commenting on football and instead of addressing the wall, the ACA, and "Rocket Man" nuclear war, that Kushneer has used private email. And breaking news, so was that almost his entire staff, used private email to conduct business. "Lock her up!" His wife has private email too. I have to wonder when the President used private email too. NYT, up to six of his staff used private email. Bannan is one of them. Lock Who UP???

WASHINGTON — At least six of President Trump’s closest advisers occasionally used private email addresses to discuss White House matters, current and former officials said on Monday.

The disclosures came a day after news surfaced that Jared Kushner, the president’s son-in-law and adviser, used a private email account to send or receive about 100 work-related emails during the administration’s first seven months. But Mr. Kushner was not alone. Stephen K. Bannon, the former chief White House strategist, and Reince Priebus, the former chief of staff, also occasionally used private email addresses. Other advisers, including Gary D. Cohn and Stephen Miller, sent or received at least a few emails on personal accounts, officials said.

Ivanka Trump, the president’s elder daughter, who is married to Mr. Kushner, used a private account when she acted as an unpaid adviser in the first months of the administration, Newsweek reported Monday. Administration officials acknowledged that she also occasionally did so when she formally became a White House adviser. The officials spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the matter with reporters.

Officials are supposed to use government emails for their official duties so their conversations are available to the public and those conducting oversight. But it is not illegal for White House officials to use private email accounts as long as they forward work-related messages to their work accounts so they can be preserved.

Then there is this, in the law that will not pass, in the preliminary CBO report, it states: The number of people with comprehensive health insurance that covers high cost medical events would be reduced by millions.

And you post on the most popular sport in the country, and predic it will be a failure soon. "Kery in a landslide!"

bingo.

i was never a huge NFL fan, as baseball has always been my favorite sport, and when it comes to football, college ball is where it's at in my house.

so from now on, the NFL is dead to me.

especially after the steelers coach pressured the former army ranger to apologize for standing for the anthem and saluting our flag.

Later he discusses her physique with the interviewer to say: 'Oh, she's in shape. You know - but she's naturally in shape. It's not a big work at all or anything, which is nicer, to be honest.

'You know, she's naturally in good shape. Absolutely. She's a very beautiful woman. Considered one of the great beauties of the world. So I don't know how I got her because, you know, beauty doesn't matter to me.'

An NFL player is arrested, on average, every seven days.

Did you know, that as of this writing, it's been 24 days since an NFL player was arrested? The odds that we would go that long in between player arrests are 25 to 1! In case you were wondering, there's an entire website dedicated to tracking all the NFL players who have been arrested.

Oops. I just checked again. It's now been zero days since an NFL player was arrested. Thanks, Los Angeles Ram Ethan Westbrooks! Westbrooks was arrested this weekend for speeding and being in possession of an unlicensed firearm. This is the second time in bracelets this year for Westbrooks, who was arrested in March on suspicion of domestic violence (the charges were later dropped).

According to NFLArrest.com, the record span between arrests is 65 days. The average span between player arrests is seven days. The site has been tracking player arrests since 2000 and has an interactive breakdown of all the data. You can track arrests by team, date, day of the week (unsurprisingly, Saturday is most popular), player position, or type of crime.

Between September 24 and September 25, the Big Three Networks spent a total of 92 minutes and 33 seconds of airtime hyperventilating about Trump's feud with various sports athletes. Compared to the 25 minutes and 45 seconds of total airtime between the three for Puerto Rico, over those two days. That means the networks spent 3.6 times more airtime on Trump’s Twitter war than the humanitarian crisis.

I have been very honest about this. I had polycystic liver disease. It is an inherited condition. My doctors have all said that my alcoholism disease, made NO DIFFERENCE in the progress of the disease. My liver weighed 30lbs.

I was placed on the UNOS list, and received the liver transplant, for two reasons.

1: I was in end stage liver disease.
2: My recovery from the disease of alcoholism, kept me on the list.

My own hard work and dedication to the recovery gave me the gift of life.

Then there is your despicable President.

He again, made a personal attack on Senator John McCain. McCain is a genuine American hero. He did not have to fight for the United States, his connections would have kept him out of the war in Vietnam. Instead he volunteered to fight communist. He flew flight after flight over North Vietnam. His plane was hit by anti-aircraft fire. He was severely injured in the ejection from his fighter.

He was tortured, to the point to this very day, he cannot raise his hands above his shoulders.

The North Vietnamese wanted to release him. He refused to be released until early other one of his comrades were replaced, and only then, did he go home.

He is gallantry fighting brain cancer, and the prognosis is not going well.

Yet you agree with the President. As does the host. I pointed out that the President and his behavior in regards to the free expression of speech, is irresponsible behavior, and that his behavior and 14 tweets attacking the mostly African American athletes, who correctly responded to his "son's of bitches" comments, while there are 3.5 million American citizens are without power, adequate food and water in Puerto Rico.

His signature issue of his campaign was to repeal and replace Obamacare. What did he do? Called the African Americans, for the most part, who dared to express their opinions and called them to be son's of bitches. He didn't work with the Republicans in congress, instead he attacked NFL players.

He used irresponsible language in regards to North Korea.

This list could go on infinitum. But you are not capable of any kind of rational discussion. Hatred rules your pitiful, angry life.

No evidence McCain was a traitor

By Shawn Zeller on Thursday, January 17th, 2008 at 12:00 a.m.

In an echo of the attacks from the 2000 South Carolina primary that dealt a critical blow to Sen. John McCain's presidential campaign, a new flyer says the Arizona senator is a traitor.
It says that when he was a POW, McCain was a "Hanoi Hilton songbird" who collaborated with the enemy.

But it provides scant evidence to back up this claim and it is strongly contradicted by many other accounts reviewed by PolitiFact: interviews with other POWs, an author who has written a McCain biography and the senator's own accounts.

Robert Timberg, author of John McCain: An American Odyssey , who has interviewed many POWs who served with McCain, said there's no evidence that he ever collaborated with the North Vietnamese. "I've never known of any occasion in which Sen. McCain provided the North Vietnamese with anything of value," Timberg said.

The flyer was sent to about 80 media organizations in South Carolina and is posted on the group's Web site. The flyer probably would have been ignored, but the McCain campaign issued a statement calling it "a vicious attack."

The flyer has a caricature of a surly-looking McCain in a prison cell under the words, "Hanoi Hilton Songbird." The second page is headlined "FACT SHEET: Military Record of John Sidney McCain III" and it begins with some accurate biographical information.

The flyer contains 1 pages of criticisms of McCain, but only a few support the accusation that he was helping the enemy:

• That he told his captors "Okay, I'll give you military information if you will take me to the hospital."

• That the Hanoi news media reported he had given information about his flight, rescue ships and the order of U.S. attacks.

• That he broke the military code because he answered questions from a Spanish psychiatrist who had apparently been cooperating with the North Vietnamese.

There is some truth to these claims, but collectively they do not prove McCain was involved in "collaborations with the enemy," as the flyer alleges.

In his memoir Faith of My Fathers, McCain says that he initially offered the information because he was badly injured and afraid of dying. But, he wrote, "I didn't intend to keep my word."

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

When he was later interrogated, McCain gave his ship's name and squadron number and confirmed the target of his failed mission, he wrote. He also gave the names of the Green Bay Packers' offensive line and said they were members of his squadron.

Asked to identify future targets, he mentioned North Vietnamese cities that U.S. planes had already bombed.

George "Bud" Day and Orson Swindle, fellow POWs, told PolitiFact that POWs sometimes were forced to talk when they were tortured, but they tried to tell lies to mislead their captors.

"We were all tortured and we wrote confessions under the pressure of torture," said Swindle, who was a cellmate with McCain and is active in his campaign. "John McCain never collaborated with the enemy. He, like every one of us, submitted to severe torture. John McCain did nothing dishonorable. He was heroic."

At one point, McCain broke down and signed a confession. But Timberg, the biographer, said McCain deliberately used misspellings, grammatical errors and Communist jargon to show he was writing under duress: "I am a black criminal and I have performed the deeds of an air pirate. I almost died, and the Vietnamese people saved my life . . . "

Day, a Medal of Honor winner who also is supporting McCain's campaign, said the flyer is "the most outrageous f------ lie I've ever heard."

The man behind the flyer is Gerard "Jerry" W. Kiley, 61, of Garnerville, N.Y., who says he served in Vietnam for about a year. He describes his group as a one-man operation unaffiliated with any political party or campaign. He says he opposes McCain because of the senator's efforts to normalize relations with the Vietnamese communist government and because, in his view, McCain has helped the U.S. government keep information about POWs classified.

"John McCain has made sure the information concerning the lives of Americans we clearly abandoned after the war remain in government files 40 years later," he says.

He teamed with political activist Ted Sampley of North Carolina to distribute the fliers to South Carolina media outlets this month. Sampley did not respond to requests for comment.

Sampley also is a longtime McCain opponent. In 2000, he gained attention when he called McCain a "Manchurian candidate" on his Web site and said that he was an agent of the Vietnamese. In 1993, Sampley was convicted of misdemeanor assault and sentenced to 180 days' probation for attacking a McCain aide, according to a 2004 article in the New York Times.

McCain is not the first politician to draw the men's ire. In 2004, they formed Vietnam Veterans Against John Kerry.

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

Kiley has twice interrupted events featuring Vietnamese Prime Minister Phan Van Khai, forcing an American flag in his hand on one occasion and throwing red wine at him on another, according to a Secret Service agent who later arrested Kiley. He admits he threw the wine, but he was later acquitted in federal court of threatening Khai.

Kiley says he bases his most damning charges against McCain — that McCain gave information about the schedule of U.S. attacks in Vietnam in 1967, the year his plane was shot down and McCain was captured — on the word of Earl Hopper, a retired Army colonel.

In an interview, Hopper's wife, Patty, said that Hopper wasn't able to address the charges over the phone because of poor hearing. She said that Hopper has long been involved in the POW movement and that Earl Hopper's son, Earl Jr., is missing in action in Vietnam.

She cited as evidence for Hopper's charges a 1973 article by McCain that ran in U.S. News and World Report and what she said were "declassified U.S. military documents" she claimed to possess describing McCain's collaboration. Patty Hopper said she was away from her Arizona home and could not fax those documents.

But the 1973 article does not back up the charges made in the flyer. It provides the same basic account as McCain's book, corroborated by Timberg's book, which was based on interviews with many POWs.

Timberg, Day and Swindle noted that McCain, the son of a Navy admiral, was offered an early release from the prison but refused so that he could adhere to the military's code of conduct.

Timberg said he was perplexed by the allegations.

"Why do they hate him? There can be lots of issues you disagree with him about. But why try to destroy him?"

Because of the seriousness of the charge, the utter absence of evidence and the clear intention to harm McCain just days before a critical Republican primary, we find this claim to be Pants on Fire wrong.

no alky, here's the real truth -

i was a cruz supporter, but was willing to accept the result of the primary battle because above all, hillary had to be defeated at all cost. THAT was the imperative. in fact, i would count my vote as not a vote for trump at all, but 100% a vote AGAINST hillary.

i don't worship this president. i am however enjoying what he's doing to you specifically and to the left in general.

pussy hats? antifa, and all the rest? the complete rejection of the first amendment because they don't happen to agree?

like i've been saying all morning alky - we are in a culture war and trump knows this. he happens to be fighting for what millions and millions of americans believe, and he's using Alinsky tactics to do it - which sends you guys over the edge into a blinding rage.

iow, you're getting a taste of your own medicine.

"Ridicule is man's most potent weapon." There is no defense. It's irrational. It's infuriating. It also works as a key pressure point to force the enemy into concessions."

"A good tactic is one your people enjoy." They'll keep doing it without urging and come back to do more. They're doing their thing, and will even suggest better ones.

"Keep the pressure on. Never let up." Keep trying new things to keep the opposition off balance. As the opposition masters one approach, hit them from the flank with something new.

"The major premise for tactics is the development of operations that will maintain a constant pressure upon the opposition." It is this unceasing pressure that results in the reactions from the opposition that are essential for the success of the campaign.

"Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it." Cut off the support network and isolate the target from sympathy. Go after people and not institutions; people hurt faster than institutions.

trump has used each one of those at some point, and there are some he uses daily.

you see alky, here's the thing. after 8 long miserable years of 0linsky, a large swath of the american electorate said "fuck this" and "no more." they discovered in their own way, and some perhaps by accident, that we really were in a war for our culture and our country. and what pisses you and your fellow travelers off to no end is that we a fighting back. punching back twice as hard as skeets liked to say.

Roger - I was a three sport letter winner in High School, back... oh about forty years before Donald Trump was elected President... and you know what?

I always stood and put my hand over my heart for the National Anthem. I sometimes sing, I sometimes don't, but I always stand and show my respect at whatever sporting event I attend.

My views have been consistent. I criticized Kaepernick last season long before Trump took up the issue.

You were raised in the upper mid-west just as I was. I am guessing you were taught similarly to respect the flag and the anthem. I doubt the idea of waging some sort of "protest" during a National Anthem never occurred to you until just very recently.

One of us has remained consistent to their upbringing and their life long commitment to respecting the flag and anthem at a sporting event.

The other has changed 180 degrees on this subject 100% COMPLETELY because of politics, and because of hatred towards one person.

You can continue to "pretend" that somehow Donald Trump has changed me or my views... but the proof is in the pudding, Roger. You can only "pretend" to argue with reality.

You're the on who is being tied into knots having to justify this sort of behavior that deep down you must realize is simply wrong.

C.H. Truth said...

Roger -

Donald Trump is "right" as it pertains to this subject. Disrespecting the flag and the anthem over "political issues" is the wrong thing to do. There are plenty of forums that allow for this. The anthem is not one of them.

Should the President of the United State engage in this debate? Maybe, and maybe not. But make no mistake... he is 100% on the right side... whether you think he should voice it or not.

The players, coaches, and even some owners apparently believe that the NFL is about them and their personal views, rather than about the game, the tradition, and the unique skills of the athletes on the field. People care about the physical skill. Not their political views. Unfortunately all of this this is indicative of the rotting of society as a whole... into political war zone, where there simply isn't any escape.

The fans are telling these people that they are wrong. Perhaps it doesn't matter to most of these players, coaches, and even owners, because they already "have theirs". But it will matter to the game long term.

The fact is that if they loved the game and the NFL half as much as they loved themselves, they would have taken a different approach. As it is, they lost fans. Many, many, many fans over this.

wphamilton said...

I took it (linking arms, kneeling before the anthem) as disrespecting Donald Trump and not the flag, the anthem, or the American way of life. Other than appreciating the sentiment of that particular gesture, I don't give a rat's ass about what these players do before the anthem, before the game. Like any other professional entertainers, they are free to express opinions, even meaningless and irrelevant ones. To the NFL: Just don't insult me and expect me to support you.

I'm with Trump on this one, but the "solidarity" thing was a clever stunt in my opinion, "in your eye" to Trump but otherwise not disrespectful.

BTW, since you're often making this comparison, what was the viewership of the Cowboys? 25 million viewers probably?

C.H. Truth said...

I'm with Trump on this one, but the "solidarity" thing was a clever stunt in my opinion, "in your eye" to Trump but otherwise not disrespectful.

WP... have you seen how "white" the crowds are at football games? When you devise a clever stunt designed to be "in your eye" to Trump, you are also going to be "in your eye" to a majority of the crowd.

As a simple matter of finances... the NFL loses even if they believed they could convince "more" people than "not" to agree with their stance. It's not an election or a poll, where garnering 51% support gives you a victory. Let's be honest... there are not 51% of football fans who think these anthem protests are the right thing to do. It's generally about a 2-1 ratio against these protests. The last polls I saw suggest that between 30-40 percent of football fans will watch less (or possibly no) football because of this.

For me... my wife already refuses to watch the NFL for the basic reason that she sees it as a league of thugs. I may still tape and watch the Vikings now and again... but I don't see myself watching it with the same enthusiasm as I once did. Oh, and very suddenly, I have zero interest in watching any other teams.

Every fan that stays away from the NFL because of it, is a loss to their bottom line. They don't gain a thing (other than as it pertains to their own pride and egos) by fighting this fight.

Disgusted, James said...

Some experts are now saying that we are closer to a nuclear exchange with another country since the Cuban missile crisis and our white supremacist xenophobic "president" wants to use this to gain points with the hate crowd.

Some experts are now saying that we are closer to a nuclear exchange with another country since the Cuban missile crisis and our white supremacist xenophobic "president" wants to use this to gain points with the hate crowd.

How can that be?

Obama led sanctions prevented North Korea from moving forward with any nuclear weapons... and inspections all confirmed as much.

So either they are lying and they have no nuclear weapons...

Or Obama was a complete putz and got rolled like cookie dough for 8 years by the North Korean man-child.

_______________

JAMES SAID. Eight years, eh? Sort of difficult to see how the man-child could have done that for eight years since he only came to power in 2011.

I guess your understanding of this history is as flawed as your understanding of the true story of the writing of the Star Spangled Banner.

So Obama got rolled by two dictators instead of one and that's suppose to be some sort of point in his favor?

Idiot.

Not according to international opinion outside the Trump White House.

And why hasn't he walked away from it yet?

C.H. Truth said...

Well James...

I guess you are correct that Obama only got rolled like cookie dough by the younger Kim Jong since 2011... and apparently the elder before that.

But either way...

either our President got fooled

or his plan worked, and North Korea is of no threat.

Which do you suppose it is, James?

A huge 'Monday Night Football' boosted NFL ratings, despite Trump attacks

Despite presidential controversy amid a prominent NFL protest movement, and a tepid "Sunday Night Football," a large audience for "Monday Night Football" actually propelled the NFL's third week into a year-over-year ratings improvement, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The outlet reported that the average rating across all Sunday and Monday game was up 3% compared to the same week in 2016.

The "Monday Night Football" matchup between the Dallas Cowboys and Arizona Cardinals made for the strongest ratings for a "MNF" game this season. Ratings for the game rose 63% above the week three game from 2016, according to ESPN, though that game suffered from being in direct competition with a presidential debate.

As ESPN broke with tradition to air the national anthem before the "MNF" game, the entire Dallas Cowboys team, including owner Jerry Jones, kneeled together before the anthem.

WP... have you seen how "white" the crowds are at football games?

No I've never noticed it and I rather doubt it.

When you devise a clever stunt designed to be "in your eye" to Trump, you are also going to be "in your eye" to a majority of the crowd.

There were boos when it looked like they intended to kneel during the anthem, but they didn't. The fans probably didn't care much about it, as long as they respectfully stood during the anthem.

The anthem protests around the league on the other hand, didn't do the NFL any favors. If their revenues take a huge hit and it brings these super-star athletes and coaches down to earth, I won't lose any sleep over it.
