Two transportation bills...

So hypothetically, we have decided to help out a certain segment of the population as it pertains to transportation costs. On opposite ends of the spectrum, there are two plans being floated.

The Amick/Boswell plan: In this plan the federal government has determined that all eligible participants should be driving a Honda Accord Hybrid. The Government has cut a deal to lease these vehicle in bulk. The cost will be $400/month . The first $300 worth will be covered by the Government. The remaining $100 will be covered by the person receiving the vehicle. If the person does not want to drive this car, or does not want to spend the $100, then they get nothing.

The Coldheart/Rat plan: In this plan, the federal government has decided to simply provide all eligible participants with a $300 transportation voucher that they can choose to use however they wish. If they choose to take advantage of the Accord lease, they can. If they want to lease a different vehicle. They can. If they want to use it to purchase a monthly bus pass. They can. If they want to use it for taxi-fare. They can.  If they want to use it to purchase gas for an existing vehicle that they own. So be it. As long as it is spent on transportation, they are free to make their own choices.

Which plan seems like the better plan?

Update: The CBO just graded each plan and found that 456 million Americans would lose their ability to get from point A to point B if the Coldheart/Rat plan was implemented. So I guess that settles it.

Republican Sen. John McCain announces opposition to health care bill, dashing hopes for GOP leaders

WASHINGTON — Sen. John McCain says he won't vote for the Republican bill repealing the Obama health care law. His statement likely deals a fatal blow to the last-gasp GOP measure in a Senate showdown expected next week.

The Arizona Republican says he can't back the partisan GOP measure because "we could do better working together, Republicans and Democrats."

He also says he can't back it without knowing the proposal's impact on insurance coverage and premiums. The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office has said its estimates on that won't be ready next week.

Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul has said he'll oppose the bill and Maine Sen. Susan Collins says she's leaning against it. Republicans control the Senate 52-48. All Democrats oppose the bill so three GOP "no" votes would doom it.

McCain, who killed the previous repeal effort with his dramatic “no” vote in July, released a statement saying he would not support the latest proposal, by Senators Bill Cassidy of Louisiana and Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, who is Mr. McCain’s closest friend in the Senate.

“I cannot in good conscience vote for the Graham-Cassidy proposal,” Mr. McCain said. “I believe we could do better working together, Republicans and Democrats, and have not yet really tried. Nor could I support it without knowing how much it will cost, how it will effect insurance premiums, and how many people will be helped or hurt by it.”

on the topic of the post, i can see why the left would oppose our plan. it places the responsibility on the individual, and secures for them the highest level of freedom and liberty to make their own CHOICE.

the gubmint plan is for losers too lazy and/or stupid to perform a task more complicated than staggering to the mailbox once a month to pick up their check from uncle sugar. these are people who probably needed a union to do their thinking for them when they were working, and now require the government to do their thinking for them as they sit around and wait to die. every time the government creates a new welfare program they cheer. and it's never enough. next they'll want "single payer transportation insurance" where the government pays the entire tab, and it only costs $32 TRILLION. but that's ok. the rich will pay for it by donating their "fair share."

SO, time to get back to talking abut Trump-Russia again!

What to Make of This Week’s Trump-Russia Revelations

Ryan Lizza: “We know that the Russians launched a cyber campaign to help Trump win. We know that the Trump campaign was willing to entertain assistance from the Russian government because Manafort, Jared Kushner, and Donald Trump, Jr., eagerly met with a Russian offering such assistance. This latest news suggests—though the reporting is still vague—what many people have long wondered: that Manafort may have been a crucial link between the Trump campaign and Russians seeking to defeat Hillary Clinton.

“If Mueller or congressional investigators unearth proof that Manafort colluded with the Russians, it will fortify the narrative that the Trump campaign worked with a foreign nation to alter the outcome of an American Presidential election—an unprecedented event in the country’s history. Trump could dismiss the evidence, deny knowledge of the collusion, and dismiss the Mueller investigation as a ‘witch hunt.’ But this week’s disclosures moved the theorizing about Trump and Russia one step closer to becoming a politically devastating blow to Trump’s Presidency.”

Health insurers in New Mexico are increasing premiums at the highest rate seen in the four-year history of the state's exchanges, the Albuquerque Journal reported.

Insurers will increase premiums next year from a range of 36 to 41 percent for midlevel insurance plans. For all plans, premiums are expected to rise a range of 17 to 49 percent.

Sixty percent of consumers in New Mexico will qualify for subsidies to lower the cost of the increasing premium.

"I feel sorry for the other 40 percent though," said John Franchini, the state's insurance superintendent. "Forty percent have to pay the full brunt of the rate increases."

“As more than 40 subdued Republican senators lunched on Chick-fil-A at a closed-door session last week, Sen. Cory Gardner (R-CO) painted a dire picture for his colleagues. Campaign fund-raising was drying up, he said, because of the widespread disappointment among donors over the inability of the Republican Senate to repeal the Affordable Care Act or do much of anything else,” the New York Times reports.

“Mr. Gardner is in charge of his party’s midterm re-election push, and he warned that donors of all stripes were refusing to contribute another penny until the struggling majority produced some concrete results.”

Said Gardner: “Donors are furious. We haven’t kept our promise.”

Advisors Warned Trump Not to Personally Attack Kim

“Senior aides to President Trump repeatedly warned him not to deliver a personal attack on North Korea’s leader at the United Nations this week, saying insulting the young despot in such a prominent venue could irreparably escalate tensions and shut off any chance for negotiations to defuse the nuclear crisis,” the Los Angeles Times reports.

“Trump’s derisive description of Kim Jong Un as ‘Rocket Man on a suicide mission’ and his threat to ‘totally destroy’ North Korea were not in a speech draft that several senior officials reviewed and vetted Monday.”

“Some of Trump’s top aides, including national security advisor H.R. McMaster, had argued for months against making the attacks on North Korea’s leader personal, warning it could backfire. But Trump felt compelled to take a harder line.”

Republicans hate the American people, especially those who have a limited income. Ironically, most of them will be left begging from family and friends, voted for Donald Trump.

We know what Graham-Cassidy, the Republican health care bill, would do. It would slash Medicaid and other federal health care spending, ending health coverage for tens of millions of Americans. To Democrats, this is intolerable. To many Republicans, this is what it means to have a “small government” society; this is the system working. But it’s at odds with the party’s promises of the past seven years: repeated pledges to repeal Obamacare and replace it with something cheaper, better, fairer, and more comprehensive. Republicans can’t square that circle, so instead, they’ve opted to lie and hope, amid the scramble, they get away with it.

One of the most egregious lies comes from Louisiana Sen. Bill Cassidy, namesake (along with South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham) of the bill in question. Cassidy, who is also a physician, was a rare Republican voice to express concerns about the Better Care Reconciliation Act, the Senate counterpart to the House’s American Health Care Act. In a May appearance on Jimmy Kimmel’s late-night show, Cassidy supported the comedian’s belief that “no family should be denied medical care, emergency or otherwise, because they can’t afford it.” Deeming this the “Jimmy Kimmel test,” Cassidy said he would reject legislation that couldn’t meet it. The BCRA couldn’t (though Cassidy would later vote for the notorious “skinny repeal”), and as Kimmel pointed out in a recent monologue, Graham-Cassidy can’t either. It works by ending Obamacare regulations on insurers and replacing federal subsidies with block grants, giving states the “flexibility” to build their own health insurance systems. But for most states (especially those that accepted Medicaid expansion) those grants are smaller than what the states had been getting under the Affordable Care Act. The effect, according to one projection from the Commonwealth Fund, is massive coverage losses, with an estimated 32 million people losing health insurance over a 10-year period.

Republicans have to pass the bill because they have to pass the bills by their contributions by the pharmaceutical industry.

Cassidy’s proposal doesn’t meet his own criteria. But rather than own this, Cassidy lied.
