The NY Time recent crack story on George Papadopoulos being the one that prompted the FBI to start their investigation into Russian collusion... brought back memories of Emily Litella.
What the NY Times is depending on is the gullibility of their readership, and quite obviously a short attention span. Because just a few months ago, the NY Times fed us the story that the FBI decided to investigate the Trump administration's possible involvement with the Russians because of Carter Page (Trump Adviser’s Visit to Moscow Got the F.B.I.’s Attention). After convincing themselves that this was the truth... the Time went on one of those Gilda Ratner Emily Litella type rants against the Trump administration. They used the Carter Page angle to push for the prospect of a special prosecutor.
CNN pushed something similar ( http://www.cnn.com/2017/04/18/politics/fbi-dossier-carter-page-donald-trump-russia-investigation/index.html) suggesting a combination of the dossier and Carter Page.
However,, the original story from the NY Times, based on their in depth investigative reporting, that demanded all the evidence pointed to Carter Page... was apparently just a big "nevermind". Apparently it was never really Carter Page. It was George Papadopoulos. Oh, and now we are supposed to believe that "this time" they got it right (and before everyone had it wrong). After all, they have the "opinions" of four "former" government and foreign officials who all claim to be "familiar"with the probe. I mean, what more could we want?
Update: As was pointed out by several people. The George Papadopoulos story falls flat on fact. The emails released by Wikileaks (apparently hacked by the Russians) were from the DNC, and former Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta. They were not even Clinton emails, as Papadopoulos suggested the Russians had access to.

ALL Presidents can golf for free. In fact they’re encouraged to. Obama did. Both Bushes did. Clinton, too. In fact, I’m fairly certain that President Trump is the only POTUS to NOT take advantage of this since it’s been around. You see, we have several world class golf courses here in the United States that are on military bases. If President Trump WERE to take advantage of these facilities, the secret service wouldn’t have paid him over a hundred thousand dollars to rent golf carts, FROM HIM. The Coast Guard wouldn’t have to scramble to patrol the coast offshore of Mar-A-Lago. The Air Force wouldn’t have to put fighter jets in the air to enforce a no fly zone. If President Trump were to use these facilities we would save all the money spent on those resources… tell me again how much he saves us by not charging himself to golf at his properties?

It is also understood there is now annoyance and frustration in Canberra that the High Commissioner to Britain Alexander Downer has been outed through leaks by US officials as the source of information that played a role in sparking an FBI probe into the Trump campaign's dealings with Moscow.

Mr Downer conveyed the conversation to Canberra via an official cable, though apparently not immediately – perhaps because he did not take the 28-year-old adviser's claims altogether seriously until the hacked emails were released by Wikileaks in late July.
