Budget Passed....

Next up. Immigration reform debate.
(get out the popcorn)

Nobody seems particularly happy with this. Fiscal conservatives are upset that it adds more debt to the deficit. Strategic Republicans point out that a two year budget eliminates the chances next year to pass any new laws through reconciliation (which only requires 50 votes and generally is done as part of the budget process). Mainstream Democrats are upset about a major increase in military spending and some special tax breaks. The far left is livid because the Democrats allowed a budget to pass without dealing with the dreamer issue.

So basically it's a losing deal for everyone with an ulterior motive, a far left, or a far right stance.

To some degree, it's the sort of bi-partisan deal that some people claim to want.  Overall the budget deal got 71 votes in the Senate, with 173 Republicans and 73 Democrats voting for it in the House. Perhaps they can piece together something similar with immigration?

Democrats’ Immigration Radicalism: The Gift That Keeps on Giving for Donald Trump

The president’s overly generous proposal on immigration, which provides an amnesty and pathway to citizenship for 1.8 million illegal aliens who were brought to America as children in exchange for ending chain migration and the diversity visa lottery and beginning to fund a border wall, was greeted with predictable howls of indignation on the left. But while Nancy Pelosi and her media enablers may see Trump’s immigration framework as “an act of staggering cowardice which attempts to hold the Dreamers hostage to a hateful anti-immigrant scheme,” it is Pelosi and her Democratic brethren who are dangerously out of touch with American public opinion.

While I personally favor a policy much tougher than the one espoused by the president, there is little doubt that Trump is correct when he notes that “the Republican position on immigration is the center mainstream view of the American people.”

The President is presented with papers that have the most important, highest secret "papers" in the country. The wife beating son of bitch could read every single one of them.

This put him into the position for bribery. And in that paper shuffling around position made him a prime candidate for bribery, with the highest level secret documents in the country.

This presents a good question. Why was he allowed in the position, despite he did not have a permanent top security clearance?

Roger -

The problem with "the truth" is when it becomes opinion.

Objectively, Obama's Presidency started off with a stimulus law, and Obamacare. After that, there was literally nothing of substance accomplished for about seven years. Nearly everything done by Executive Order has been overturned, the stimulus was a massive failure, and several portions of Obamacare are no longer in place. Terrorism increased under his watch. Race relations suffered. Crime increased. Poverty increased. Welfare increased.

Eight years, and Obama accomplishments are down to "part" of one law. The objective measurements were below average at best. He wasn't even able to get his heir apparent elected to replace him.

Objectively.. why would anyone consider this to be a well run Administration? Is it because Obama didn't tweet, and CNN/NYT/WaPo was not continuously reporting stories of "dysfunction"?

The truth as it would relate directly to the facts... would be judged on accomplishment. The goal of any leader (President, CEO, Administrator) is to get things done. Period.

That's the truth Roger.

commie said...

The reality, Opie... is that we have recessions and we come out of them. We'eve had five since 1980. We are probably due for another in the next few years. None of those recessions lasted through eight years of a Presidency.

You want to give Obama credit for what exactly? Being elected "while" we were in a recession? You could have elected Charlie Brown as President, and we still would have come out of the recession. That's not an accomplishment.

Clearly they aren't "serious" about it. A majority in both chambers, the Presidency, and all this judges Trump has appointed to the courts, and that's still not enough to "get serious" about it.

When the Democrats get a foothold again, maybe then there will be some serious action on the budget.

I'd like to see growth under Trump at least reach the historical average of 3%. Or do we have a "new new normal" that applies to Trump, and as long as you can imagine "confidence" then the below-average "new new" is fine?
