From investigating Russian collusion to FBI raids over Access Hollywood?

Is there any reasonable liberal out there who would be willing to tell us when this might potentially or hypothetically go too far?

The sad thing about it, is that most of the pretense has been wiped away. The recent NY Times editorial all but suggests that the outright goal of all of this is to actually prove all of the unknown criminal activity that they are sure Donald Trump has been engaged in his whole life.
Mr. Trump has spent his career in the company of developers and celebrities, and also of grifters, cons, sharks, goons and crooks. He cuts corners, he lies, he cheats, he brags about it, and for the most part, he’s gotten away with it, protected by threats of litigation, hush money and his own bravado. Those methods may be proving to have their limits when they are applied from the Oval Office. Though Republican leaders in Congress still keep a cowardly silence, Mr. Trump now has real reason to be afraid. A raid on a lawyer’s office doesn’t happen every day; it means that multiple government officials, and a federal judge, had reason to believe they’d find evidence of a crime there and that they didn’t trust the lawyer not to destroy that evidence.
As if any of this has anything to do with Russian Collusion. But I guess finding Russian collusion was never really the point, was it? It was always about trying to figure out a way to open the door to endless expansions of investigation into everything, up to and apparently including possible violations of professional conduct by Trump's personal lawyer.

National Enquirer Bought Trump Love Child Story

April 12, 2018 at 7:12 am
New Yorker: “Late in 2015, a former Trump Tower doorman named Dino Sajudin met with a reporter from American Media, Inc., the publisher of the National Enquirer, at a McDonald’s in Pennsylvania. A few weeks earlier, Sajudin had signed a contract with A.M.I., agreeing to become a source and to accept thirty thousand dollars for exclusive rights to information he had been told: that Donald Trump, who had launched his Presidential campaign five months earlier, may have fathered a child with a former employee in the late nineteen-eighties.”

“Sajudin declined to comment for this story. However, six current and former A.M.I. employees, who spoke on condition of anonymity because they feared legal retaliation by the company, said that Sajudin had told A.M.I. the names of the alleged mistress and child. Reporters at A.M.I. had spent weeks investigating the allegations, and Sajudin had passed a lie-detector test, during which he testified that high-level Trump employees, including Trump’s head of security, Matthew Calamari, had told him the story.

GOP Has Lost All Credibility on Fiscal Responsibility

John Harwood: “The business model of the modern Republican Party does not produce real-world budget discipline. So today, GOP lawmakers turn to make-believe.

“Within the last four months, the Republican president and party leaders in Congress took two actions that dramatically expand federal deficits. On a party-line vote, they cut taxes by $150 billion a year, then increased spending by $150 billion a year in cooperation with Democrats.

“Now, as the Congressional Budget Office projects the return of $1 trillion annual deficits, congressional Republicans plan a gesture for constituents alarmed by rising debt. The House will vote on Thursday on a constitutional amendment requiring lawmakers to balance the federal budget.”

No it's just the next step in their overall strategy. After the tax gifts to the wealthy and budget bonanza to the corporate interests, a balanced budget amendment will "force" them to make cross the board cuts in social spending, which of course was the plan from the beginning.

There's no way a constitutional amendment that budgets must be balanced can be achieved however. For so many reasons ... but after that effort, I expect legislation to that effect.

It's certainly a political stunt, but everyone except the fruitcakes are going to be on record as against it so that won't work. The idea is to generate enough political noise that balanced budget legislation later on will appear to be more reasonable.

Commonsense said...

Being for balance budgets or even a balanced budget amendment is not a fruitcake position.

All 50 states have to balance their budget, only the federal government can endlessly borrow money. (It's good to print the money).

The GOP will be happy to vote for it knowing the Democrats will block it.

The argument against an amendment, and it is a sound one, is that it would limit our ability to mitigate recessions and respond to national emergencies.

Maybe not necessarily "only' the fruitcakes will support it, but that's generally the way it's turned out in the past. They want to frame the political issue, knowing that it will fail, but then use that as the platform for balanced budget legislation with the ultimate goal of cutting entitlements.

White House is prepping an effort to undermine Rosenstein
By Sara Murray, Kevin Liptak and Pamela Brown, CNN
Updated Apr 12, 2018
Washington (CNN) - The White House is preparing talking points designed to undermine Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein's credibility, according to sources familiar with the plan.
The plan calls on President Donald Trump's allies to cast Rosenstein as too conflicted to fairly oversee the Russia investigation.
The talking points are still in their preliminary form, and not yet finalized, people familiar with their preparation said. The White House and the Justice Department declined to comment.
Already, a number of Trump's associates have called for Rosenstein's firing in appearances on television and in public remarks over the past few days, but not all of them did so at the request of the White House.

Stockman’s attorney, Sean Buckley, has said Stockman committed no crime in using the money as he did. Following his arrest in March 2017, Stockman said a “deep state” shadow government was targeting him.

Stockman was found guilty following a three-week trial in Houston.

A former Trump building doorman confirmed Thursday that he told the National Enquirer the real estate baron turned President sired a love child with his housekeeper.

Dino Sajudin's stunning admission came hours after it was reported that the supermarket tabloid's publisher paid $30,000 to silence him.

“Today I awoke to learn that a confidential agreement that I had with (National Enquirer publisher American Media Inc.) with regard to a story about President Trump was leaked to the press,” Dino Sajudin said.

“I can confirm that while working at Trump World Tower I was instructed not to criticize President Trump's former housekeeper due to a prior relationship she had with President Trump which produced a child.”

Sajudin told an Enquirer reporter that he heard two Trump employees — including longtime security chief Matt Calamari — say the former real estate baron sired a daughter with an ex-staffer in the 1980s, according to reports in the Associated Press and the New Yorker

Sajudin even passed a lie detector test.

Comey: Trump asked me to investigate ‘pee tape’ to reassure Melania

Comey: Trump asked me to investigate ‘pee tape’ to reassure Melania
Donald Trump (left) and James Comey Getty Images
President Trump wanted James Comey to investigate the infamous “pee tape” allegations — to reassure Melania that he hadn’t actually paid Russian hookers to urinate on a hotel bed, the former FBI chief claims in his upcoming book.

“He brought up what he called the ‘golden showers thing’ … adding that it bothered him if there was ‘even a one percent chance’ his wife, Melania, thought it was true,” Comey writes in “A Higher Loyalty: Truth, Lies, and Leadership,” a copy of which was obtained by The Post.

“He just rolled on, unprompted, explaining why it couldn’t possibly be true, ending by saying he was thinking of asking me to investigate the allegation to prove it was a lie. I said it was up to him.”

The conversation took place during the same private dinner on Jan. 27, 2017, where Comey has claimed the president demanded “loyalty” — and just days after the publication of an intelligence dossier alleging that the Kremlin had a tape of Trump paying prostitutes to perform the dirty deed on a bed once occupied by President Obama.

Comey says he warned Trump an investigation might “create a narrative that we were investigating him personally,” the former top G-man writes.

The president replied that he “might be right” — but kept asking him to consider the idea, and said he would as well, according to Comey.

Comey said he privately wondered why Melania might think there was even a 1 percent chance the allegations were true, claiming there is “zero chance” his own wife would believe such a claim.

“In what kind of marriage, to what kind of man, does a spouse conclude there is only a 99 percent chance her husband didn’t do that?” he writes in the book, which hits shelves April 17

I chose to believe to four people involved rather then the one who is described as a pathological liar.

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

James B. Comey calls the Trump presidency a “forest fire” that is doing serious damage to the country’s norms and traditions.

“This president is unethical, and untethered to truth and institutional values,” Comey writes. “His leadership is transactional, ego driven and about personal loyalty.”

Decades before he led the F.B.I.’s investigation into whether members of Trump’s campaign colluded with Russia to influence the 2016 election, Comey was a career prosecutor who helped dismantle the Gambino crime family; and he doesn’t hesitate in these pages to draw a direct analogy between the Mafia bosses he helped pack off to prison years ago and the current occupant of the Oval Office.

A February 2017 meeting in the White House with Trump and then chief of staff Reince Priebus left Comey recalling his days as a federal prosecutor facing off against the Mob: “The silent circle of assent. The boss in complete control. The loyalty oaths. The us-versus-them worldview. The lying about all things, large and small, in service to some code of loyalty that put the organization above morality and above the truth.” An earlier visit to Trump Tower in January made Comey think about the New York Mafia social clubs he knew as a Manhattan prosecutor in the 1980s and 1990s — “The Ravenite. The Palma Boys. Café Giardino.”

The central themes that Comey returns to throughout this impassioned book are the toxic consequences of lying; and the corrosive effects of choosing loyalty to an individual over truth and the rule of law. Dishonesty, he writes, was central “to the entire enterprise of organized crime on both sides of the Atlantic,” and so, too, were bullying, peer pressure and groupthink — repellent traits shared by Trump and company, he suggests, and now infecting our culture.

Be careful what you asked for.

Comey writes that he felt obligated to take more of a personal role as the public face of the investigation rather than deferring to then-Attorney General Loretta Lynch – in part because of something involving Lynch that he cryptically refers to as a “development still unknown to the American public to this day.”

In early 2016, the U.S. government became aware of information from a classified source, and “the source and content of that material remains classified as I write this,” according to the book.

“Had it become public, the unverified material would undoubtedly have been used by political opponents to cast serious doubt on the attorney general’s independence in connection with the Clinton investigation,” Comey writes, without further elaboration.

So the question is what was that “development still unknown to the American public to this day.”? Or is this just more Comey spinning?

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

The Republican spin

Comey has a long history of misstatements and misconduct,” including damage caused to the FBI because of “bizarre decisions, contradictory statements and acting against Department of Justice and FBI protocol.”

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

The Justice Department guidelines also mandate that the search warrant be “drawn as specifically as possible.” This is important because every search warrant lists the “items to be seized.” In the application for the search warrant, the prosecution must establish that there is good reason to believe that those items are evidence of a crime and that those items will be found at the location to be searched. For example, if the prosecutors are investigating a particular bank loan obtained by Cohen, they might have sought to seize documents relating to that loan.

With this in mind, reports that the FBI seized communications between Trump and Cohen should be alarming to Trump because this means that the communications between Trump and Cohen fell within one of the categories of “items to be seized.” To use the prior example, if the FBI sought to obtain documents relating to a bank loan obtained by Cohen, the seized communications between Trump and Cohen were related to the loan that is under investigation.

That is a significant problem for the president—he was communicating with a man under criminal investigation about matters that are under criminal investigation. While some of those communications could be privileged, the “taint team” of attorneys that are walled off from the investigators will determine whether each communication is privileged. Communications that are unrelated to legal advice or are in furtherance of an ongoing crime, are not privileged. Because Cohen’s relationship with Trump is much broader than a typical attorney-client relationship, they may have discussed business matters that are unrelated to legal advice.

"I had been in many intelligence briefings with the two previous presidents and had never seen Presidents Bush or Obama discuss communications and political strategy in front of intelligence community leaders," Comey writes.

In that respect, Comey writes, Trump and his team were like the New York Mafia organizations he had hunted down as a federal prosecutor earlier in his career.

"I sat there thinking, Holy crap, they are trying to make each of us an 'arnica nostra' — friend of ours. To draw us in," he writes. "As crazy as it sounds, I suddenly had the feeling that, in the blink of an eye, the president-elect was trying to make us all part of the same family and that Team Trump had made it a 'thing of ours.'"

(In Italian, "cosa nostra," a common name for the Mafia, literally translates as "our thing.")

20:39
Comey: Trump is a liar and unethical - The Beat with Ari Melber
Comey also writes at length about his decision on Oct. 28, 2016 — less than two weeks before the presidential election — to announce that the FBI was looking into more emails connected to its investigation of Clinton's email server. He acknowledges that he assumed Clinton would win — as virtually every major poll suggested — and he writes that he didn't want to tarnish Clinton's presidency as illegitimate if it were to be learned later that the FBI had withheld the information.

In any event, he notes that Clinton's defenders frequently raised reports that Colin Powell used an AOL account when he was secretary of state, "as if that were relevant to the investigation."

"In fact, it entirely misses the point," he writes. "I have never seen any indication that Powell discussed on his AOL account information that was classified at the time, but there were numerous examples of Secretary Clinton having done so."

Elsewhere, Comey describes Trump as lapsing into paranoia about the Steele dossier, especially one of its more colorful (and unproven) allegations: that Trump had once cavorted with prostitutes in a Moscow hotel room. The dossier describes prostitutes' performing a highly unusual act involving urination with Trump present as a way to sully the bed, which had previously been used by President Barack Obama.

yeah, that's it alky.

i'm worried that importing tens of millions of uneducated criminal scumbags whose only redeeming quality to assholes like you is voting democrat every election might just have an adverse effect on our nation in the long term.

yeah, you got me there alky. guilty as charged.

your definition of "change the world for the better for all of us" is rather out of step with reality. unless of course it's defined by a path to perpetual power for democrats and perpetual entitlements for the parasites you import to get you there.

kind of ironic for an assclown who trembles with fear because "my country is at stake!"

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

If you had a working brain you would understand the use of the comments by others to make a valid point is appropriate if attributed.

here's the next generation who will change the world for the better for all of us.:

A father decked a man who allegedly grabbed his 3-year-old daughter in an Auburn-area park Saturday evening.

Yonel Hernandez-Velasco, 26, of Auburn reportedly had been acting strange about 7 p.m. in Regional Park in North Auburn. A group of boys playing basketball said Hernandez-Velasco twice asked them whether he could buy their basketball. He showed them a pair of handcuffs and told them he could handcuff one of them and drag them into the pond, according to a Placer County Sheriff’s Office Facebook post.

After the boys told him to go away, Hernandez-Velasco wandered up to a young girl, who was in the park with her family. He took the youngster’s hand and began skipping through the grass, the news release said.

The girl’s mother and the mother’s boyfriend were with their dog nearby and yelled at Hernandez-Velasco to stop. The boyfriend confronted Hernandez-Velasco and told him to let go of the girl, which he did, the news release said.

As Hernandez-Velasco began to act aggressively toward the boyfriend, the girl’s father ran up from a nearby apartment. When the father asked Hernandez-Velasco what he was doing, Hernandez-Velasco reportedly pulled the handcuffs from his pocket and wrapped them around his hand like brass knuckles.

Hernandez-Velasco charged the father, who punched him in the face, the news release said. When he came back at the father, the father punched him in the face again, and Hernandez-Velasco fell to the ground, where he remained until sheriff’s deputies and medical personnel arrived.

Hernandez-Velasco was taken to a hospital for medical clearance. A blood sample was drawn to determine whether he was under the influence of alcohol or drugs, the news release said.

He was then booked into Placer County jail in Auburn on suspicion of kidnapping, assault with a deadly weapon and attempted kidnapping. His bail is set at $1.2 million.

We are a nation of immigrants. While the we need to stop the drug trafficking, most of the people who come here are seeking a better life for themselves and their families.

The fact is that the immigrants who are not citizens are not changing the results of the elections, despite the lie the President has stated repeatedly, the 3,000,000 popular vote was not as a result of illegal immigrants who voted for Clinton. You believe that Faux News claim and the zombie President.

hey alky, here's an opportunity for you to put your $$$ where your mealy mouth is for all those beaners you claim to care so much about:

City officials in Los Angles want to help pay homeowners with extra space to put small accommodations in their backyards for homeless people.

Los Angeles county has been facing a growing homeless population, and there are currently nearly 58,000 people without living shelter.

With a ten minute Google search, I could bring up hundreds of assaults by caucasian, males upon their parents, wives and or children . Perhaps you would be one of them, considering your explosive mentality.

We are a nation of immigrants.

the only part of your screed that's correct.

you left out one key word though - LEGAL.

there has always been a LEGAL path to citizenship for anyone who has ever wanted to follow it. millions have, and upon arrival they've assimilated and contributed positively to the growth of the nation.

you propose a massive influx of uneducated, unskilled parasites. we're already fully stocked up in that category. LBJ set that in motion with his great society welfare state.

thanks but no thanks alky.

you'll need to find a different path to a permanent democrat grip on political power.

i'm sure you can.

but when it comes to criminal beaners i don't need ten minutes. i need one tenth of one second.

see the problem there, alky?

Los Angeles and Southern California in general are more attractive to the homeless because of the climate. The temperatures are benign.

I moved here in 1987. I have seen no more than half a dozen freezing temperatures alerts.

The inner censor of the mind of the true believer completes the work of the public censor; his self-discipline is as tyrannical as the obedience imposed by the regime; he terrorizes his own conscience into submission;he carries his private Iron Curtain inside his skull, to protect his illusions against the intrusion of reality.

Arthur Koestler

koestler has you nailed to a "T", alky.

Until the late 19th century, we didn't have any immigration laws. When they were implicated they were specifically designed to protect the protestants from the Wops from Italy. And to limit the number of chinks and slants.

You and Trump are no different from them.

I'm the descendant of a German George Emmic in 1759. No immigration laws would have kept me from becoming a proud member of the Democratic party.

Two brothers from Houston have been indicted on charges that they fenced millions of dollars worth of over-the-counter medicine and health and beauty supplies in separate operations.

Yasser Ouwad, 47, and Bilal Awad, 45, both of Houston, each face federal charges of possessing and transporting stolen property over state lines.

The indictment alleges that Ouwad and Awad used “boosters” to steal goods, often hiring unauthorized immigrants to do so, according to the U.S. attorney’s office for the southern district of Texas.
