Following Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s invasion of the office and home of President Trump’s personal lawyer, voters increasingly believe Mueller’s probe is politically biased. But they also tend to think he is unlikely to nail the president for anything criminal.
The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey finds that 46% of Likely U.S. Voters still believe Mueller’s investigation is an honest attempt to determine criminal wrongdoing, but that’s down from 52% last October. Forty percent (40%) now consider Mueller’s probe a partisan witch hunt, an eight-point increase from 32% in the earlier survey. Fourteen percent (14%) are undecided.Whether you like or dislike the Rasmussen Reports polling, the reality is that the amount of people with trust in the Mueller probe is falling, while the number of people seeing is a witch hunt is increasing.
The longer it goes on, and the further it strays from Russian interference, the less and less people will trust the Mueller is doing the right thing. As a matter of credibility, time is not on Mueller's side here. I would fully expect that if this probe is still going on another six months from now, that these numbers will be fully reversed, with more people seeing it as partisan and unfair than see it as honest.

It's good for America to have outlier polls keeping Trump's spirits up. He has a unique ability to cherry-pick polls and convince himself that everything else is "fake".
As for whether this one truly reflects public opinion now: who cares? Justice is not run by polling, and it's not a political process. Opinion will shift both ways, and these shifts and swings are irrelevant. What really matters is the truth at the end, and whether the American public believes it. At that time.

Aclear majority of Americans support special counsel Robert S. Mueller III’s investigation of Russian interference in the 2016 election and alleged collusion with President Trump’s campaign, a new Washington Post-ABC News poll finds.
The results show backing for inquiries into Trump’s orbit on several fronts.
Nearly 7 in 10 adults say they support Mueller’s focus on possible collusion with Russia. Sixty-four percent say they want the special counsel investigating Trump’s business activities. And a 58 percent majority supports investigating alleged payments by Trump associates to silence women who say they had affairs with him.
The broad public mandate for Mueller’s investigation comes as many Trump allies are calling for the president to thwart the special counsel’s work. Trump has considered ousting the Justice Department official overseeing the probe, Deputy Attorney General Rod J. Rosenstein — a move that some Trump associates hope would cripple the inquiry.
Trump this week blasted the Russia investigation as “never ending and corrupt.”

American voters say 52 - 32 percent that Mueller is conducting a "fair" investigation, the lowest level of support for Mueller since the independent Quinnipiac (KWIN-uh-pe-ack) University Poll first asked this question in November. Republicans say 54 - 30 percent the investigation is not fair. Every other party, gender, education, age and racial group says the investigation is fair.

Trump Just Made Insane Claim That He’s More Popular Than Obama, Twitter Disagrees…

“Just hit 50% in the Rasmussen Poll,” President Trump tweeted earlier this morning, adding, “much higher than President Obama at same point.”
“With all of the phony stories and Fake News, it’s hard to believe! Thank you America, we are doing Great Things.”
Trump makes a good point. Given all the scandalous news surrounding the president, a 50% approval rating is hard to believe. It is even harder to believe if you read any other polls, which have the president’s approval rating closer to 40%.
Taking into account the new Rasmussen poll, the polling aggregate at RealClear Politics estimates Trump’s approval rating at 42.5%. Over at Nate Silver’s FiveThirtyEight, Trump sits at 40.6%.
What accounts for the discrepancy? The truth could be that Rasmussen is simply a biased pollster. FiveThirtyEight gives them a rating of C+, accounting for an average two-point bias in favor of Republicans. Back in 2010, Silver wrote a piece on Rasmussen clarifying his methodology for exploring a possible bias. Silver points out that the pollster has a particular “knack for issuing polls at times which tend to dovetail with conservative media narratives.”

An Ipsos poll, which Silver gives an A- rating, puts Trump at 40% approval. A poll from NBC News and the Wall Street Journal put Trump’s approval at 39%.
Last summer, Politifact dedicated an article to a similar poll from Rasmussen that issued a questionable result. Trump lauded the poll, and tweeted about it, again comparing his approval rating favorably to Obama’s at the same time during his administration. The Pulitzer-prize winning outlet concluded that “Trump has engaged in some serious cherry-picking.” They rated Trump’s claim about his approval rating “Mostly False.”
Similar to his relationships with many of his cabinet members, the 45th President has a love/hate relationship with polls. In the past, Trump has called his discouraging poll numbers “fake news.”
“The Fake News refuses to talk about how Big and how Strong our BASE is,” the president tweeted in December of last year. “They show Fake Polls just like they report Fake News.”
How long Trump can continue to exaggerate the facts of reality remain to be seen. Liberals and progressives should remember that Nate Silver gave Clinton a more than 70% chance of beating Trump the day of the election, a confidence that may had led some to believe they could stay home on election day.
