Less redacted portions of intelligence report show former FBI director has been lying

The House has released some unredacted portions of their Intelligence report on Russian Active Measures. A couple of quotes from interviews jump out, regarding their interview with General Flynn. (These would be quotes taken from transcripts, not paraphrasing, or someone's recollection of what was said)

James Comey:
"They saw nothing that indicated to them that [Flynn] knew he was lying to them. The agents…discerned no physical indications of deception. They didn’t see any change in posture, in tone, in inflection, in eye contact. They saw nothing that indicated to them that he knew he was lying to them”
Andrew McCabe:
“The two people who interviewed [Flynn] didn’t think he was lying, [which] was not [a] great beginning of a false statement case”

So this basically confirms information that seemed known (but unverified).  That the FBI did not believe that Flynn knowingly lied, and that building a false statement case (knowing these agents would have to testify in court to this) would be difficult to prosecute.

But this also shows Comey to be a bigger liar than we already know he is. On several media interviews, Comey has denied that he ever stated this or believed this. He denied the premise that the FBI agents believed Flynn was telling the truth to Chuck Todd, to George Stephanopoulos, and Bret Bair, just to name a few.  Comey flat out state to Stephanopoulos, that he "had no idea where any of that was coming from".

Btw... apparently much of this information was also in FBI documents, but these portions were apparently redacted as a matter of protecting confidential national security information. Yeah, it's a matter of confidential national security when the director and assistant director are lying about a prosecution of a high level Trump cabinet member.

This probe is slowly but surely exposing much more about those conducting it, than those who are under the microscope. The longer it goes on, the more corrupt we are seeing it is. The irony is that the new popular opinion being floated is that the FBI scandals, and problems with the Probe will actually help the Republicans in the midterms. That thought process could be well on it's way to becoming "conventional wisdom" and even eventually a matter of historical fact.

i'm starting to think that the only reason this case lives on is to keep sessions and rosenstein employed. if there's another legitimate reason i'm not seeing it.

Rog,

a General who devoted his life to the defense of our country has been literally bankrupted, his family has suffered financial ruin, and he is possibly facing a criminal sentence...

Mainly because of the flat out lies of the FBI director and Asst FBI director at the time.

This whole Russian collusion probe have cost individual Americans millions of dollars in attorney's and defense fees, and it still hasn't uncovered a thing about what it was designed to do... all it has done is turn mostly innocent lives upside down in some sort of legal inquisition to "get Trump". Moreover, it certainly appears that the entire thing was based on lies and cover up.

I am sorry Rog... but whether or not the Inauguration had the biggest crowds or whether or not the President once slept with a porn star is completely irrelevant to your life and to nearly everyone else's life. It certainly doesn't matter to me.

I defend it no more than I would defend Nancy Pelosi telling us that people will "die" if the tax cut bill was passed.

But it's a false equivalency for me to suggest that a Trump or Pelosi political lie is even in the same ball park as dirty cops lying, covering up, and quite obviously abusing their power to attack political opponents... and do anything that they can to ruin people because of their political affiliation.

The President should stop lying? Sure. Everyone in politics should stop lying. They should all stop the rhetoric. The exaggerations. They hyperbole. The cronyism. The dishonesty. The manipulation. The power grabs. Etc, etc...

But that seems to be the problem Rog... you simply want to single out who you don't like and somehow believe it's okay to do whatever it takes to bring him down? Why? Because he is a politician who takes liberties with the truth? Eliminate those, and we have nobody worthy of the White House and two empty chambers of congress.

So Flynn said something in an interview that did not jive with what they heard in a taped conversation. That can be considered a "lie" or it could be considered a simply problem with recollection.

It is simply impossible to suggest that everyone is going to have perfect recall on every conversation or ever phone call they take in their life times. Certainly you don't remember everything, and someone sitting with the transcripts of a phone call you made two weeks ago, could probably ask you many questions that you will not recall or answer incorrectly.

The FBI or whoever, makes that determination (lying or lack of recall) based on the expert opinions of the interviewers as to whether or not the person believes they are telling the truth (simply do not recall everything) or flat out lying and understands that they are lying. These interviewers are trained to make the determination between an possible memory issue or a flat out lie.

They had determined that Flynn was telling the truth (as he saw it) - and had not believed he was purposely lying.

They then covered up that analysis... even though it's the one thing they generally use to determine whether or not to charge someone.

Let's be clear, it was a lie that allowed them to listen into the telephone conversation in the first place... in order to have the taped conversation to go back to.

The whole case is built on lies, deception, and cover up at the FBI and with Special Counsel.

Denni,

Flynn plead guilty to misleading statements... and stated that he did so because he could no longer afford (financially or otherwise) to continue to put his family through the burdens of fighting the case.

We don't even have the transcripts of the telephone conversations to know exactly what was said? What constitutes a "discussion" about sanctions? Did the Russian ambassador bring it up and Flynn gave a quick response, or was it a half hour deal.

What we know is if the FBI directors felt that Flynn was not purposefully lying, we know that the conversation was something they could conceivably be seen differently or otherwise forgotten.

The truth of the matter is that Both Comey and McCabe have IG reports citing violations of FBI rules for being dishonest, and both have been referred for possible criminal violations.

I guess it's hard, at this point, to provide them with the "benefit of the doubt". I would find it much easier to give Flynn and the investigators who interviewed him the benefit of being seen as telling the truth in all of this.

commie said...

"if the FBI directors felt that Flynn was not purposefully lying"

What? How far did you have to stretch to get that particular gem?

They felt that Flynn WAS purposefully lying, even though the interviewing agents couldn't detect it from his body language.

Flynn "stated that he did so because he could no longer afford to continue" - Oh he "stated" that, OK. He also got a 2-level reduction in sentence, which I'm sure had at least as much to do with it.

So the guy was basically negotiating in secret how to do Russia's bidding, knocking down the sanctions. Not illegal, sure. But that's the kind of behavior that you want to defend by lying about the DOJ people who charged him? Because you're afraid he might testify against Trump?

Man, you Trump followers have some really whacked-out priorities.

C.H. Truth said...

Gee WP...

I had to read the quotes from the FBI Director and the Asst FBI Director.

Are you really this fucking stupid?

C.H. Truth said...

Here is a typical WP argument

What we know : transcripts of Comey and McCabe testifying under oath that their FBI investigators didn't believe that Flynn was purposefully lying.

WP: That's not true! Where did you get that!

What we know : There was a wiretap of one phone call between a Russian ambassador and Flynn that included some discussion about sanctions.

WP: So the guy was basically negotiating in secret how to do Russia's bidding, knocking down the sanctions.

This is cognitive dissonance at it's finest.

I have to be skeptical that you did read quotes FBI Director, since you failed to read my post before responding.

As I wrote, giving you the fact of the matter: "They felt that Flynn WAS purposefully lying, even though the interviewing agents couldn't detect it from his body language."

What "quotes" indicated to you that the FBI Director thought that Flynn was telling the truth, or thought that he was? Put them here so we can ALL read them, and know that they exist somewhere other than in your imagination or in some fevered Trump camp columnist.

The Director knew that Flynn's statements were false, regardless of his body language. He charged Flynn with lying. How "fucking stupid" does a person have to be when he concludes that the Director did, in fact, think that Flynn was lying?

Where's your quote, that you so uprighteously declared was the foundation of your opinion?

"They felt that Flynn WAS purposefully lying, even though the interviewing agents couldn't detect it from his body language."

Actually no... they felt that the statements he made were "at odds" with the transcripts of the call. That is not the same as lying.

I know your brain has been "off" lately, but do you honestly expect that an incoming NSA director would be expected to remember the specifics of every single phone call he took during the transition...

and if he is asked about a particular call and his recollection is different than the transcripts that he just automatically get's charged with a crime?

Again... if you were lucid... you would be able to make the obvious realization that they need to actually believe that he was not just remembering incorrectly.... but that they must actually believe (during the interview) that he was flat out lying.

The FBI, WP... DID NOT BRING CHARGES AGAINST FLYNN

It would be factually wrong to state that they believed he was guilty and needed to be charged. Because if that was their call, then they would have charged him at the time.

It was special counsel who much later made that determination.

and at that point, the FBI decided to withhold their previous analysis that they did not believe he purposely lied. They apparently went so far as to "redact" that information from some of their reports... claiming it was a matter of national security.

Now, of course, I am sure you believe that it was a matter of national security, because quite suddendly, WP believes EVERYTHING the FBI tells them...

except the stuff that he doesn't want to believe, Then he will argue that they didn't actually mean what they stated.

Loretta said...

"Interviewing agents said that about the interview, not the Director. And you call someone else "fucking stupid"!"

The Director was Comey.

Do you even read?

C.H. Truth said...

Interviewing agents said that about the interview, not the Director. And you call someone else "fucking stupid"!

What the fuck does that even mean?

The issue isn't what Comey or McCabe wanted to believe. They did not sit in on the interview, and so they didn't provide a personal opinion on the subject.

Fact: The FBI interviewed Flynn
Fact: The FBI agents didn't believe he knowingly lying
Fact: The FBI director and asst director confirmed this
Fact: The FBI asst director admitted that this doesn't make a good case.

Fact: The FBI DID NOT CHARGE FLYNN.

Those are the facts, at face value. No opinion provided by me. No obtuse realignment of the facts. No stupid rhetorical attempt to exaggerate known facts to fit some conclusion that the facts don't support.

Just the facts, WP.

You'd have to be "fucking stupid" to believe that the FBI charges every crime they think someone's guilty of, when they don't think they have a good case. But that's what CH and his dog believe.

C.H. Truth said...

CH does NOT have any quotes showing that the Director didn't think that Flynn was lying.

Oh for Christ's sake.

I offered (as a fact) that both Comey and McCabe gave statements that their agents who interviewed them didn't feel that they were lying.

That is the entire point of all of this. Why would anyone even fucking care what Comey or McCabe opined. Why are you harping on that particular (and completely irrelevant) question anyways?

Either way, WP... Comey (and the FBI) never charged Flynn (as you suggested they did)... and the Congressional committee was given every impression that they were not going to charge him based on the opinions of the Agents who interviewed them.

And now Comey is currently out on the circuit claiming that he never made any statements to the Congressional investigation committee saying anything about his agents... and transcripts from the hearings prove otherwise. Not only that, his assistant director offered the same information and transcripts from the hearing prove that.

So tell us all, WP... why are you still defending Comey on this subject?

Why not just admit the facts as they are?

Why are you still arguing another silly semantic game?
