Liberal Trump Logic

So let's review some of our favorite liberal arguments, see if we cannot find a pattern:

  • Trump is guilty of a crime for firing the FBI director. To be clear, there is nothing illegal about firing the FBI director. But a hypothesis exists where his "intent" could have been different than was publicly stated, and logically carried out, and because there exists any sort of probability (no matter how small), the entire firing must be treated as if it is a potential crime.
  • Michael Cohen must be guilty of a crime because he was under contract by certain businesses that were looking for his insider edge into the President. As with the firing of the FBI, there is not an actual crime associated with contracting and paying a consulting fee to someone who can provide information about or even access to the President, but we don't know for sure that there isn't more to it, so it we should consider it a crime. Oh, and also there is a Russian person involved, so it must be collusion..
  • Michael Flynn was charged with providing the FBI with misleading statements during an interview. It has been reported in the legal documents that he told the Russians not to do anything rash in response to new sanctions that were being put in place by the outgoing Obama administration. There was nothing illegal, unethical, or even wrong with Flynn talking to the Russian Ambassador. But let's argue that he must have been negotiating for Russian interests, selling us all out, for repayment for the Russian help in the Election. In spite of what we know, we should assume the worst.

Meanwhile...

  • A judge in open court tells us that Rosenstein and Special Counsel mislead the American people by setting the parameters of the probe, and then going off on investigations that were not part of the scope provided to the public. The attorneys openly admitted that there was other "secret authority" and that the Manafort case was "inherited" at the beginning.. Lawyers for special counsel, in court documents, also argue that the regulations that they may have broken, are not legally enforceable. In spite of the fact that Special Counsel's own attorneys admit that Manafort's was inherited and a federal judge stated that it did not arise from the investigation, liberals will still argue that the case did "arise" from the investigation, because that was what was originally argued. The semantic possibility exists to make such a claim, therefor we must embrace if, in spite of a federal judge disagreeing.
  • Andrew McCabe is declared to have lied to federal investigators within an Inspector General's report. He was fired, as recommended by the IG, and the IG made a criminal referral for possible charges being brought for lying to federal investigators. Liberals argue that McCabe was fired for political reasons by the Trump administration in spite of an actual report stating the opposite. They will make the argument that it was possible that the independent IG was possibly in on it, but that either way, the motivation to fire McCabe was political, and any talk about charges are fake news.
  • Most recently, Stormy Daniels Attorney Michael Avenatti has been releasing information to the general public about bank transactions and Suspicious Activity Reports. Again, a Government Inspector General is investigating the situation, as the release of this information (whether it came from the Government or the bank is criminal). Liberals are arguing that Avenatti could have conceivably found this information through legal channels, without actually providing any legitimate possibilities.

So that pattern seems to be simple. Regardless of the facts presented, the new liberal Trump logic declares that you never, ever take anything at face value if those facts do not shed poorly on Trump and anyone associated with him.

Rather, the logic is to look for alternative possibilities, even if the plausibility of that argument is suspect. Liberal Trump logic demands that legal actions become illegal, while illegal actions become legal. Honest actions become nefarious. Suspect actions are perfectly reasonable.  All because such an argument "can be made".

“It’s a very big concern,” Democratic pollster Celinda Lake, told TheHill. “The economy is the No. 1 issue out there for people and right now Trump has a very aggressive economic message that seems to cross traditional party lines to voters.”

The news site continued:

A CNN poll out this month showed that 57 percent of those surveyed think the country is doing well, an uptick from 49 percent in February. At the same time, a CBS poll also out this month showed that 66 percent of those polled believe the economy is good."

We know Paul Manafort, former Trump campaign chair, has been indicted on 32 counts, including conspiracy and money laundering. We know he made millions off shady Russians and changed the Republican platform to the benefit of Russia.

This is a baldface lie, there was no change to the Republican platform that benifited Russia. Quite the opposite, it was tougher on Russia than the Democrats as reported by Byron York.

Byron York: What really happened with the GOP platform and Russia

During the 2016 Republican convention, the story goes, the Trump campaign weakened a critical passage in the GOP platform to go easy on Russia. The Trump team acted, according to this narrative, as part of an ongoing conspiracy with Russian President Vladimir Putin to help Donald Trump win the White House.

But that is not what happened. In fact, an already-tough portion of the Republican platform dealing with Russia was strengthened, not weakened, at the GOP convention. Here is what took place:

The original draft of the platform — it has never been released publicly, but an insider shared the relevant passages with me — had strong language on Russia, and in particular on Russian aggression in Ukraine. Warning of "a resurgent Russia occupying parts of Ukraine and threatening neighbors from the Baltic to the Caucasus," the platform vowed to increase U.S. pressure on a "reckless" Russia.

"We will meet the return of Russian belligerence with the same resolve that led to the collapse of the Soviet Union," the platform said. "We will not accept any territorial change in Eastern Europe imposed by force, in Ukraine or elsewhere, and will use all appropriate measures to bring to justice the practitioners of aggression and assassination."

It would be hard to call that a pro-Putin statement. Every word of it stayed in the final platform.

Perhaps the reason you get deleted James is not so much you present an alternative view as you present unverified garbage as truth.

"We're not," Dubelier responded. "And the reason for that, Your Honor, is I think we're dealing with a situation of the government having indicted the proverbial ham sandwich."
"That company didn't exist as a legal entity during the time period alleged by the government," Dubelier continued. "If at some later time they show me that it did exist, we would probably represent them. But for purposes of today, no, we do not.""

The public case against Trump
Mike Allen, Jim VandeHei May 12

One thing is true of all major political scandals: What we know in the moment is but a tiny, obscured, partial view of the full story later revealed by investigators.

Why it matters: That’s what makes the Trump-Russia drama all the more remarkable. Forget all we don’t know. The known facts that even Trump’s closest friends don’t deny tell a damning tale that would sink most leaders.

Here's a guide that Jim VandeHei and I put together to the known knowns of Russia:

* We know Paul Manafort, former Trump campaign chair, has been indicted on 32 counts, including conspiracy and money laundering. We know he made millions off shady Russians and changed the Republican platform to the benefit of Russia.

*We know that the U.S. intelligence community concluded, in a report released in January 2017, that Russian President Vladimir Putin “ordered an influence campaign in 2016 aimed at the US presidential election,” to “denigrate” Hillary Clinton and with “a clear preference for ... Trump.”

*We know that in May 2016, Trump campaign aide George Papadopoulos told an Australian diplomat Russia had political dirt on Hillary. "About three weeks earlier," according to the N.Y. Times, "Papadopoulos had been told that Moscow had thousands of emails that would embarrass Mrs. Clinton."

*We know that in June 2016, Trump’s closest aides and family members met at Trump Tower with a shady group of Russians who claimed to have dirt on Hillary. The meeting was billed as "part of Russia and its government's support for Mr. Trump."

*We know the Russian lawyer who helped set it up concealed her close ties to Putin government.

*We know that in July 2016, Trump said: "“Russia, if you’re listening, I hope you’re able to find the 30,000 [Hillary] emails that are missing,” and urged their publication.

*We know that on Air Force One a year later, Trump helped his son, Don Jr., prepare a misleading statement about the meeting. We know top aides freaked out about this.

*We know Trump revealed highly classified information to the Russian foreign minister and ambassador in a White House meeting.

*We know Michael Flynn, former national security adviser and close campaign aide, lied to Vice President Pence and FBI about his Russia-related chats. We know he’s now cooperating with special counsel Robert Mueller. We know Trump initially tried to protect Flynn with loyalty and fervency rarely shown by Trump to others.

*We know that during the transition, Jared Kushner spoke with the Russian ambassador "about establishing a secret communications channel between the Trump transition team and Moscow." We know Kushner omitted previous contacts with Russians on his disclosure forms.

*We know Trump initially lied about why he fired James Comey, later admitting he was canned because of the “Russia thing.”

*We know Michael Cohen was a close adviser and lawyer, the fixer and secret-keeper. We know Trump seethed when the FBI raided Cohen's office.

*We know that in January 2016, just before Republicans began voting, Michael Cohen tried to restart a Trump Tower project in Moscow.

*We know Mueller questioned a Russian oligarch tied to a firm that made payments to Cohen, who paid off a porn star who allegedly had an affair with Trump. [Updated]

*We know that oligarch was a bad enough dude that the Trump administration sanctioned him.

BE SMART: The undisputed known knowns about Trump, Russia and his associates are damning and possibly actionable. But the known unknowns of how much more Robert Mueller knows that is publicly unknown is what spooks Trump allies most.

*Remember: No one in the media saw Mueller’s indictments of Russian oligarchs coming until the second they were announced, and no one knew until this week that Mueller’s team questioned AT&T five months ago about its payments to Cohen.

*Mueller has every incentive to keep the public and Trump himself in suspense.

Obviously just out to get Trump. Someone should investigate Hillary for involvement with MI5 (wasn't Steele a former UK intelligence agent ... hmmm ...) still trying to overturn our election because Hillary lost. Someone had better dig up some dirt on MI5/6 to discredit them, because we all know that Russia undermining elections is a hoax to take Trump down.
