Unless Comey was lying under oath?

Testimony of former FBI Director James Comey to the House Intelligence Committee on March 20, 2017
“I have been authorized by the Department of Justice to confirm that the FBI, as part of our counterintelligence mission, is investigating the Russian government’s efforts to interfere in the 2016 presidential election and that includes investigating the nature of any links between individuals associated with the Trump campaign and the Russian government and whether there was any coordination between the campaign and Russia’s efforts.”
Why is this important? Because it admits that the investigation the FBI was waging was not just a counterintelligence probe into the actions of the Russians, but it was a counterintelligence probe investigating the links between individuals with the Trump campaign as well.

So when the FBI (and their apologizers) suggest that the Informant(s)/Spy(ies) that they sent to make contact and gather information from members of the Trump campaign were simply investigating "Russia", it would seem rather inconsistent with the actual investigation that they were running.

It would seem that we are to believe the following:
  • That the FBI was officially investigating members of the Trump Campaign
  • That the FBI sent a "human resource" to make contact with members of the Trump campaign.
  • But that the FBI "human resource" was just investigating the Russians, not the Trump campaign.
Why would (or should) anyone really believe that?

Speaking of shoes to drop..

… The inspector general's report on the FBI's handling of the Clinton email scandal is soon due. It will likely detail violations of ethics and laws among Obama administration officials and may include criminal referrals.

Already, a few liberals and former Clinton supporters are warning the left that it is on the wrong side of history and about to reverse the entire post-Watergate liberal tradition.

There is a reckoning on the horizon. It has nothing to do with Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton. Instead, the traditional, self-appointed watchdogs of government overreach have turned into the carnivores of civil liberties.

There will be a full Inspector General Report on the subject. What a variety of Politicians say at this point is fairly irrelevant. They all have their personal reasons for what they believe and what they say.

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.), one of the few who got the Justice Department briefing, said he believes the FBI acted appropriately when the informant, a retired American academic living in England, met with three of Trump’s campaign aides.

"When the FBI comes into contact with information about what a foreign government may be doing in our election cycle, I think they have an obligation to run it out," Gowdy, a former federal prosecutor, said Wednesday on CBS News.

“I think when the president finds out what happened, he is going to be not just fine, he is going to be glad that we have an FBI that took seriously what they heard,”
Gowdy, who is not running for reelection, said a day earlier on Fox News, Trump’s favorite cable news network.

The pushback was noteworthy since Gowdy, who chairs the House Oversight Committee, earned a reputation among Democrats as a partisan attack dog for leading the pursuit of crooked Hillary Clinton after a terrorist attack in 2012 killed four Americans in Benghazi, Libya, while she was secretary of State.

He also has worked closely with Rep. Devin Nunes (R-Tulare), who chairs the House Intelligence Committee and has spearheaded Republican inquiries into the Russia investigation and spread still unproven allegations of improper surveillance of the Trump campaign.

You're jumping around in circles to maintain the fake story told by the President because his tactics have captured you.

and let's be clear...

Gowdy didn't make any claims that the FBI didn't "spy". He simply stated that he believes they acted with proper procedure and proper intentions. That's only an opinion that comes from what the FBI provided him.

The FBI still controlled the information that they provided the Congress members. We still have no idea what other information will come out (that hasn't been presented). It's still very unlikely that the FBI was fully forthcoming with everything.

Gowdy is also someone who has claimed (many times) that criticism of the FBI/DOJ/Special Counsel is damaging. He is a former prosecutor. He would prefer that it not happen. That is going to play into his opinions and his statements on the subject.

Let's be perfectly clear about something else Rog...

I don't believe that a final report will validate "either viewpoint" on this subject. Unlike most Americans I am not convinced that either the FBI acted 100% correctly, or that they acted with 100% malice. I am pretty sure that the FBI (being a group of human beings) acted somewhere in between being completely righteous and being completely corrupt.

I think we will find that they tried to follow procedure most of the time, but that they took a few liberties and short cuts that they probably shouldn't have. I also believe that there were decisions that were made with the best intentions, and that there were others that will seem partisan and questionable.

I simply do not believe that they are either infallible or evil. They are not machines that go through predefined motions to come to the fairest conclusions every step of the way. They are simple people who are going to have opinions and feelings that effect their work (like anyone else).

Commonsense said...

For the most part, CH's analysis is correct but I do take a darker view of the leadership team at the FBI and of the Obama holdovers in the DOJ.

C.H. Truth said...

We also will have to define it by individuals as well. There will likely be many individuals who were 99% fair and objective in their decision making. But there will be other individuals (such as Stzrok and Page) who showed an obvious bias against Trump and possible made poor decisions based on their personal feelings.

The problem with all of this is that everyone wants it to be "all or nothing". Roger might believe that because Trey Gowdy defended the FBI, that it must prove 100% without a doubt, no questions asked, that there was not a single shred of impropriety or nefarious behavior within the FBI. But that sort of thinking is based entirely on an inability to see past Roger's own biases... which basically control his behavior. If Trump says something (anything) Roger will believe it to be false no matter what and no amount of evidence to the contrary will change his belief.

Trump Reverses Himself and Denies Firing Comey Over Russia Probe

President Donald Trump contradicted what he said in a televised interview last year on Thursday, denying that he fired former FBI Director James Comey over his role in the investigation of Russian interference in the 2016 election.

"Not that it matters but I never fired James Comey because of Russia! The Corrupt Mainstream Media loves to keep pushing that narrative, but they know it is not true!" Trump said Thursday in a Twitter posting.

No matter what evidence to the contrary to your opinion will change your opinion. Your opinion is based solely upon your personal beliefs that these dedicated professionals were biased against your hero Donald J. Edgar Hoover Trump. 👹

Yep, he never fired comey for russia....

But you are coming to the conclusion that their personal positions influenced their actions. These people are dedicated professionals and there is no proof to support your allegations. It's just your opinion.

So your argument, Rog...

Is that everyone in the FBI is immune to human nature? That every single person in the FBI behaves as "dedicated professionals" 100% of time?

Anywhere else where you believe that behavior exists (other than the FBI)? Because I can assure you that in my lifetime I have never worked for any organization that didn't have a wide variety of dedication. I never worked for any organization that didn't have a bad apple or two.

I find your fairy tale belief in the FBI as a bunch of saints riding unicorns under rainbows to be amusing.

And let's be clear, Rog... there is plenty of evidence of bias against Trump in the FBI and there is arguably evidence that that bias weighed into the decisions.

Comey kept notes on his meetings with Trump, but didn't keep notes with his meetings with Obama. That is a clear indication that he treated one President differently than another President because of his personal feelings... something you are arguing doesn't exist "anywhere" in the FBI. It existed in the director.

Strzok was removed from the Mueller investigation after internal investigations uncovered his bias against Trump. He was reassigned to an administrative position, and his partner in hate (Lisa Page) has long since left the FBI. If they were dedicated professionals that didn't allow their personal feelings to effect their jobs, why are neither of them still investigators?

Andrew McCabe was fired after the IG report came back on him, for questionable judgement and lying to investigators?

So yeah, Rog... go ahead and believe that everyone in the FBI are saints worth your bending a knee and worshiping if you so choose.

Lastly...

Are you expecting that the IG report on the Hillary investigation will uncover that every FBI agent was 100% professional, dedicated, and didn't let partisanship play any part in how that investigation went down?

Is that your belief? Is that your "Prediction"!!!

"Kerry in a landslide"

will be ever replaced with

"Absolutely no wrongdoing by anyone in the FBI".

Dear Ex-Friends in #TheResistance

I admit I was a little hurt at first. The attacks against us Trump voters were so personal and so vicious that I did not think it could be sustained. I thought maybe you would regain your sanity after some turkey and egg nog.

But you did not. You got worse. And I went from sad to angry to where I am today: Amused.

As the whole charade you have been suckered into over the last 18 months starts to fall apart—that Trump would not survive his presidency; he would be betrayed by his own staff, family, and/or political party; he would destroy the Republican Party; he would be declared mentally ill and removed from office; he would be handcuffed and dragged out of the White House by Robert Mueller for “colluding” with Russia—let me remind you what complete fools you have made of yourselves. Not to mention how you’ve been fooled by the media, the Democratic Party, and your new heroes on the NeverTrump Right.

On November 9, you awoke from a self-induced, eight-year-long political coma to find that White House press secretaries shade the truth and top presidential advisors run political cover for their boss. You were shocked to discover that presidents exaggerate, even lie, on occasion. You became interested for the first time about the travel accommodations, office expenses, and lobbyist pals of administration officials. You started counting how many rounds of golf the president played. You suddenly thought it was fine to mock the first lady now that she wasn’t Michelle Obama. Once you removed your pussy hat after attending the Women’s March, you made fun of Kellyanne Conway’s hair, Sarah Sanders’ weight, Melania Trump’s shoes, Hope Hicks’ death stare; you helped fuel a rumor started by a bottom-feeding author that U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley slept with Donald Trump. You thought it was A-OK that Betsy DeVos was nearly physically assaulted and routinely heckled. You glorified a woman who has sex on camera for a paycheck.

You have learned all kinds of new things that those of us who didn’t willfully ignore politics for the past eight years already knew. For example, we already knew that illegal immigrants were being deported and families were being separated. We already knew about misconduct at the Environmental Protection Agency. We already knew that politicians gerrymander congressional districts for favorable election outcomes. We already knew that citizens from certain countries had restricted access here.

But American politics became a whole new thing for you.

Some of your behavior has been kinda cute. It was endearing to watch you become experts on the Logan Act, the Hatch Act, the Second Amendment, the 25th Amendment, and the Emoluments Clause. You developed a new crush on Mitt Romney after calling him a “sexist” for having “binders full of women.” You longed for a redux of the presidency of George W. Bush, a man you once wanted imprisoned for war crimes. Ditto for John McCain. You embraced people like Bill Kristol and David Frum without knowing anything about their histories of shotgunning the Iraq War.

Classified emails shared by Hillary Clinton? Who cares! Devin Nunes wanting to declassify crucial information of the public interest? Traitor!
