The NHL has become maybe the only professional team sports league that I consistently follow anymore. Largely due to the fact that they simply play hockey for the love of playing hockey, and I know first hand the sort of commitment it takes to be a hockey player.
Alex Ovechkin - The only Russian not colluding with Trump |
The game of hockey is unique in that you quite literally are asked to play an entire game while fundamentally doing something (skating) that is fairly unnatural. Contrary to other sports, there are no people who just strap on some skates and can naturally excel. It's not like football, or basketball where you can naturally be bigger, taller, stronger, more coordinated, or run faster. Where a great athlete can learn the basics and become a superstar overnight. Hockey requires that you practice the simple fundamentals of skating. A hockey becomes a faster and better skater by practicing and mastering technique. No way this can be done without hours and hours and hours of tedious training. No matter how big and strong you are, a smaller player will beat you every time, if they have better skating skills.
Moreover, you don't hear Alex Ovechkin and Marc-Andre Fleury in the middle of the series talking about whether or not they are going to accept a visit to the White House. There is no controversy about standing for the national anthem, or national anthems (in many games you hear multiple anthems), largely because the NHL is truly an international game, where superstars like Alex Ovechkin are not suspected of colluding with the Trump administration simply because he is Russian. I have a feeling that when your roster is littered with Canadian, European, and Scandinavian players, that they are not all that worried about the social injustices of American athletes.
Anyways, it was nice to see the Capitals win their first ever Stanley Cup, and it was even nice to see a recharged Alex Ovechkin (not everyone's favorite player) rise to the occasion and become a better version of himself.

The only one creating a controversy about the anthem is the idiot in chief trying to energize his idiot base....A non issue that is marring the country to its core....just what the POTUS showman wants....leading from behind...
NFL revenue was down 20%. Non-issue my ass.
Tens of millions turn on football to relax, not have someone else's politics pushed in their faces.
Non-issue my ass.
We are learning more and more about the obama criminal unmasking and spying. Now we know who the deep state is. Let's see if any go to prison.
Tens of millions turn on football to relax
indeed. and in my house that only happens on Saturday's anymore.
i have no patience for barely literate, prima donna millionaires with imaginary ass aches.
fuck the NFL.
NFL revenue was down 20%.
And all that proves is revenue is down 20% because of a faux issue from the fraud in chief.....

Really, what has been released and learned is that the spying is BULLSHIT, just like you and donnie and the jury is out with respect to trump indiscretions. My guess it is going to hit the fan hopefully before donnie holds a coronation.....

100 % agree. I watched very little NFL, even tho my KC Chiefs had a very good year.
As for Hockey . I love the sport, played it and coached it. The better coached and executed team won.
DOJ/FBI Arrested a spy today, no wait, he was not a spy given the new definition floated by liberals defending the Lost Years.
Krauthammer has just announced in a letter that he is in late stages of cancer and has weeks to live.
Krauthammer only has weeks to live
krauthammer posted one hell of a letter in the WaPo. a letter that i'm sure took enormous courage to write.
this sucks.
Over the last three days, cbs has devoted nearly 29 minutes to oprah running for president with her friend and dem donor gail king leading the push.
But there's no media bias.
Yep. When he passes, he will be missed.
Oprah, ok,the queen of welfare.
, not have someone else's politics pushed in their faces.
Really? The whole politic Bullshit was pushed by one huge asshole who made patriotism the issue instead of peoples rights to do as they please...just like the bigoted baker in CO......
