psychological projection

Roger Amick said...
Trump has taken over your mind.
Psychological projection is a theory in psychology in which humans defend themselves against their own unpleasant impulses by denying their existence while attributing them to others. For example, a person who is habitually rude may constantly accuse other people of being rude. It can take the form of blame shifting.
Now let's look at the facts: My last post subjects have been:
  • Media bias
  • Manafort case
  • Generic Ballot
  • Jobs Report
  • Ex-Administration officials
  • Manafort case
  • Racist NY Times editor
  • Transsexual showering
  • Most trusted news networks
  • Hawaii Senator confused by the law
  • Paul Krugman
That is eleven posts since the last time I mentioned the President. (although I did offer a picture in the post about the Jobs Report for effect). The twelfth post was in regards to Jonathan Turley talking about the Trump Tower meeting, where he believes the Michael Cohen revelation could come back to Trump. In fact if you move on from there, you will see a post about Judge Kavanaugh, another about Paul Manafort, a humorous post about Ocasio-Cortez's idea of economics, and one about the NY Times whining about potential violence against the media. All before seeing another post that mentions Trump, but is more in regards to the lies told by previous Presidents.

If anything, my most common post is about Paul Manafort. If someone accused me of being obsessed with Paul Manafort, they would have a better argument than accusing me of being obsessed with President Trump.

But you see, someone who "is" actually obsessed with Trump, and has had their mind "taken over" by Trump would probably read a post about media bias and see "Trump". That person would read a post about Paul Manafort and think "Trump". That person would read about the Racist NY Time editor and think "Trump". That person would read about transsexuals and their mind would go to "Trump". A Senator confused by immigration laws? Trump. Paul Krugman being wrong? Trump. Judge Kavanaugh. Trump. LaBron James. Trump. Brexit. Trump. Toilet paper. Trump. It's Saturday. Trump. It's raining. Trump.

No matter what was being written, this particular obsessed person would simply displace it with "Trump" and they would do so to the point where they would project that obsession on to whoever it is that they insist is actually secretly (somewhere in the background) constantly writing about Trump.

It's like the old joke where the psychiatrist gives a patient the classic ink blot test. He holds up the first blot and asks him what he sees. "A naked woman" says the patient. He holds up the next blot. "A woman giving oral sex to a man", replies the patient. The third blot. "A vagina". Fourth. "A bunch of topless women dancing". The fifth blot. "Two women having sex". The sixth "three rows of naked women's butts."

Finally the doctor stops the ink blot test and tells the guy that he has figured out his problem. "You are obsessed with sex", the psychiatrist says to the patient. "Me?" The patient exclaims! "You're the one with all the dirty pictures".

Your bitterness is unmatched.

Hell, even WP wasn't demanding CH (or anyone else) agree with him.

But, then again, you ARE a simpleminded person.

I have a legitimate reason for my beliefs about Donald Trump. I'm a lifelong political and historical I guess you could say I'm a geek. I strongly believe that the President is a clear and present danger to our democracy. There are many reasons, mainly because he's is either a pathological liar or an authoritarian government believer. The latter is the most dangerous because he's been able to get intelligent people to ignore or believe that such behavior is acceptable. He's stated that he's above the law as President. And the only way to stop him from doing anything he wants is impeachment. The piece below puts it better than I can.

"Twentieth-century dictators—notably, Stalin, Hitler, and Mao—had all denounced their critics, especially the press, as 'enemies of the people.' Their goal was to delegitimize the work of the press as 'fake news' and create confusion in the public mind about what's real and what isn't; what can be trusted and what can't be. That, it seems, is also Trump's goal."

Trump's goal, as is the goal of most in power, is to get out their message in the widest and most unfiltered way possible. Trump understands the power of the media to get across a message.

Where his style differs, of course, from past presidents is a lack of reverence for the press' role in a free society.

Trump's style, in business and in politics, has always been to crush whatever and whoever stands in his way. Stand with him, and be rewarded — even if for a short while.

There's no telling exactly how Trump will channel his latest perceived unfairness toward him, especially as the first trial of the Mueller Russia probe --Manafort's — moves toward its conclusion in a couple weeks.

But, if past is prologue, the president will seethe and lash out in many directions, and there's no telling what that will mean as the country heads toward an election that could have sweeping consequences for Trump's agenda, legacy and time in office.

People like you can and have been manipulated in ways that you cannot comprehend. Dictators have ruled the world for most of history. Our nation is the longest organized democratic nation in history.

I believe that he is a danger beyond the Civil War.

I don't know if he knows what he is doing, or if its intentional in dismantling the Atlantic Alliance out of ignorance. In effect it will increase the power of the Russians in Europe. The Russians have been trying to restore their influence since the end of the cold war. He stated in public that English should change Prime Minister. That's outrageous for a President.

He accused me of irrational opposition to the President.

Actually I accused you of psychological projection.

It's clear that you are obsessed with the President. You literally attempt to change the subject of every thread to try to make it about the President. You seem to feel every subject of conversation should somehow fall back to the President. You are obsessed 24/7 with Trump.

But you believe you are the only one being rational, and that if everyone doesn't agree with you, it's because "they" are actually obsessed with Trump.

It's casebook Roger. Denial and attributing your obvious behavior to others.

Myballs said...

HD did nail it. You think Trump is a danger to the country because you are engulfed in liberal resistance think. Never mind that trump has the economy strong, is creating permanent middle class jobs, has Isis essentially defeated, has Europe contributing more to NATO, has north Korea and Russia both in dialog with the US, consumer confidence highest in years, i could go on and on. All this is your idea of clear and present danger??

You deserve the ridicule you're getting.

C.H. Truth said...

The clear and present danger is to Democrats and liberalism. Not the country.

The country isn't going to go to hell if Judge Kavanaugh is confirmed. It isn't going to go to hell if we build a wall, arrest illegals, end DACA, or anything else that Trump wants to do as President.

Liberals are upset because see someone running counter to the society that "they" want to build. One without borders, without genders, without responsibilities, and without conservatives. They simply don't see the reality that not everyone wants that.

The problem with liberals isn't that they are dumb.
It's just that they believe so much stuff that isn't true. (RRR)

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

Fifty years ago, you would have been opposed to the Civil rights movement and the voting rights movement.

Liberals and moderate Republicans worked together in a peaceful transition from the reconstruction era into the liberal world we live in today.

You would be dumb enough to believe the Dixiecrats were the real Americans defending themselves against the changing world. I voted for George H.W Bush and Reagan before the southern strategy replaced the Republican party and made it is today.

You claim to be a moderate. You make it look that way. But your incredible beliefs that this President is going to make American great again don't stand scrutiny.

Let's go back to about 1880 before people like Theodore Roosevelt decided that properly regulated capitalism was superior to the companies like Standard Oil had a monopoly that gave them unlimited power to eliminate competition, pay labor next to nothing and charge the customers as much as possible. FDR gave us Social Security. You would support demolishing Social Security as a way to reduce the deficit caused by the massive tax cuts.

You support GLB rights except when a bigot who uses his religion to refuse service to queers.

He is trying to dismantle NATO and allow Putin to take Ughanistan, the only European county he has now.

And one more thing. You are not a bigot. But the unwavering support for the President comes largely from the older, white, less educated minority that is the foundation for his popularity. The Birther claims he did for six fucking years don't seem to bother you. People like Jimmy are his base. And you stand hand and hand bedside people like him.

Fire up the insuts brigade. Loretta you're next.

Alky wrong again. Too easy.

"SECRETARY GENERAL STOLTENBERG: Thank you so much, President, for hosting me and my delegation here at the White House. It’s great to see you again. And in uncertain times, we need a strong NATO, so I would also like to thank you for your strong commitment to our alliance.

Last time we met, your main message was that NATO had to do more in the fight against terrorism and more on defense spending. All NATO leaders agreed and now we are delivering. We are stepping up our efforts in the fight against terrorism.

In Afghanistan, where we are increasing a number of trainers and to the support for Afghani government, and also in Iraq, where we also plan to launch a new training mission at the summit — at the NATO Summit in July.

On defense spending, I would say that I agree with you. We have to do more. And I would like to thank you for your leadership, and it has really impact — it is impacting allies, because all allies are now increasing defense spending; they’re adding billions to their budgets. So your leadership on defense spending has really helped to make a difference, and that’s something I thank you for."

It's something even more disturbing.

The frequency of the president’s mistruths has picked up, as well. The Washington Post Fact Checker found last week that Trump has now made 4,229 false or misleading claims so far in his presidency — an average of nearly 7.6 such claims per day, and an increase of 978 in just two months.

The campaign trail — where Trump held three mega-rallies in five days — has allowed him something of a respite, a chance for the reality-TV-star-turned-president to repackage his anger as something more campy, delivered with a showman’s élan.

On Thursday night, the president turned a Pennsylvania rally to support Republican Senate candidate Lou Barletta into a Trumpian grieve-fest, returning repeatedly to his favorite foil — the “fake, fake, disgusting news,” as he bellowed — to portray himself as a victim of chronically unfair coverage from “horrible, horrendous people.”

“The president is rightfully frustrated,” White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders told reporters Thursday, going on to argue that “90 percent of the coverage on him is negative.”

Trump’s indignation with the Mueller investigation has long been evident, but it is boiling over with growing ferocity. He has tweeted the phrase “witch hunt” a combined 46 times in June and July, up from 29 times in April and May, and more and more he is calling out Mueller by name.

Trump’s lawyers say it is the president himself who is calling the shots in what is becoming an all-out public relations blitz to discredit Mueller.

Melania Trump broke sharply with her husband on Saturday, after the president maligned NBA star LeBron James' intelligence on Twitter late Friday night. The first lady praised James for his work with children, even saying she is open to visiting the school for underprivileged children he founded in his hometown of Akron, Ohio.

The first lady's platform, "Be Best," is all about encouraging children to conduct themselves in an honorable manner, and she has made promoting children's welfare a key piece of her time in the White House.

"It looks like LeBron James is working to do good things on behalf of our next generation and just as she always has, the first lady encourages everyone to have an open dialogue about issues facing children today," the first lady's spokeswoman, Stephanie Grisham, said in a statement. "As you know, Mrs. Trump has traveled the country and world talking to children about their well-being, healthy living, and the importance of responsible online behavior with her Be Best initiative. Her platform centers around visiting organizations, hospitals and schools, and she would be open to visiting the I Promise School in Akron."

On Saturday night, the president took to Twitter to bash James following a Monday night interview James did with CNN's Don Lemon. The interview was intended to discuss the opening of the school LeBron helped found, but the conversation quickly turned political. LeBron said the president has "used sports to divide us."

Mr. Trump tweeted, "Lebron James was just interviewed by the dumbest man on television, Don Lemon. He made Lebron look smart, which isn't easy to do. I like Mike!"

Saturday's statement would not be the first time the first lady illustrated her independence from her husband.

How many are ready to take the next fatal step? In the age of the active shooter, the number isn’t zero.

Should that happen — when that happens — and journalists are dead because some nut thinks he’s doing the president’s bidding against the fifth column that is the media, what will Trump’s supporters say? No, the president is not coyly urging his supporters to murder reporters, like Henry II trying to rid himself of a turbulent priest. But neither is he the child who played with a loaded gun and knew not what he did.

Donald Trump’s more sophisticated defenders have long since mastered the art of pretending that the only thing that matters with his presidency is what it does, not what he says. But not all of the president’s defenders are quite as sophisticated. Some of them didn’t get the memo about taking Trump seriously but not literally. A few hear the phrase “enemy of the people” and are prepared to take the words to their logical conclusion.

Is my caller one of them? I can’t say. ,But what should be clear is this: We are approaching a day when blood on the newsroom floor will be blood on the president’s hands.

Bret L. Stephens joined The Times as an Op-Ed columnist in 2017 after a long career with The Wall Street Journal, where he was deputy editorial page editor and a foreign affairs columnist. Before that he was the editor in chief of The Jerusalem Post.
