So, how did we — and many others — make this mistake?
Easy. The article’s writer, Brian Karem, changed it after publication when he realized people were confused with his clickbait BS.

I don't think that the President is smart enough to be using the potential firing of Rosenstein to keep attention on the Russian intervention. But members of his staff are capable of thinking about this.
Why would it be unethical to ask questions to somebody what they did things they did when they were minor?
For the same reasons the government seals records of minors. If a person was incarcerated as a minor, that record would be sealed. If a person was institutionalized or legally committed over mental issues as a minor, that record would also be sealed. In fact, you could have both killed someone as a minor and been deemed criminally insane as a minor... got released when you turned 18 and then go legally buy a gun and no background check would show where you had just been.

He said he does not know which media outlet she will appear on: “We have not finalized the details.”
If they had been charged with a crime as a minor that information is usually sealed like you said. But he was not charged with a crime when he was a minor.
