Democrats agree to confirm 15 Federal Judges!!!

15 life time appointments in exchange for a Senate recess!

Mitch McConnell is suddenly becoming Donald Trump's best friend, while Chuck Schumer has become Trump's and McConnell's personal punching bag. Hasn't been the best of times for Senator Schumer.

I would have much preferred to see Schumer and the Democrats stay in session till Christmas, and spend 100% of their time confirming Judges and other appointees. But the agreement is basically that the President will get the same amount of  confirmations, that he would have had the Democrats used up all 30 hours for each of the 15 nominees.

So as of today Trump has pushed through:

USSC: 2 of 7
Appeals Courts: 29 of 179 (12 more unconfirmed nominees)
District Courts: 53 of  677 (58 more unconfirmed nominees)

Judges were going to be confirmed anyway, now the Dems get to go home and save their jobs.

Well Common...

When they get back in session, then McConnell can start fresh with the rest of the nominees. I would suspect that they will get the other 70 unconfirmed nominees in 2019.

This is pissing off (and disappointing) the left. Anything to damper their spirits heading into midterms. After Kavanaugh got confirmed and then this, there are going to be some who basically say... hey, why bother?

Yesterday Senate confirmed 15 Trump judicial nominees; 3 circuit court, 12 district court. Total confirmed for Trump presidency: 2 SCOTUS justices, 29 circuit court judges, 53 district court judges. A record. Huge reason for continued Republican support.

"People For the American Way Executive Vice President Marge Baker issued the following statement:

“Mitch McConnell has made clear again and again that he’ll do anything to install ideological extremists and narrow minded elitists onto our federal courts. Today’s deal represents the latest chapter in his cynical campaign to jam through nominations without meaningful debate or adequate vetting. This is another step towards creating a federal court system where the wealthy and powerful get one kind of treatment, and ordinary Americans looking to vindicate their rights get another.“No senator should have agreed to this deal. Americans deserve to know that they can depend on the courts to stand up for the constitution and the law. When our courts—and our rights—are on the line, senators should take the time to seriously debate the merits. Allowing these confirmations to be rushed through as senators head out of town does a disservice to our democracy and the rule of law. If Republicans intend to move forward on even a single nomination in the lame duck congress, Democrats should make clear that they won’t stand by silently.”

Some liberal sad faces.

As someone said; Fienstien has used up all of her goodwill. The president won't be returning her calls.

She has no pull over the 9th circuit now.

Amy Coney Barrett replacing Ruth Bader Ginsburg is a nightmare the liberals can't wake up fast enough from.

It would be ironic that the character ambush the left perpetuated against Kavanaugh results in a blowback that gets Barrett confirmed.

very well said. take heed, alky:

The Court’s job is to neutrally uphold the law — whether that law be in the form of statute or the Constitution itself. In this context, the concept of a “swing vote” makes little sense. Justice Scalia asked, “What in the world is a moderate interpretation of a constitutional text? Halfway between what it says and what we’d like it to say?” We might ask in concert, “What in the world is a swing vote? A judge who mediates between the people who are right and the people who are wrong?” Ironically enough, it is the people who are making this argument — not those who reject it — who are “politicizing the Court.” If, like me, you believe that originalism is the only legitimate approach precisely because it removes politics from interpretation, then the more originalist judges you see, the less political the Court is likely to be. If, like Kavanaugh’s critics, you believe the opposite — that is, you think that the Court must represent the “will of the people” — then you cannot help but politicize it, and to the point at which ends up as just another legislature. If that’s what you want to do, then fine. But please don’t pretend that you’re concerned for its impartiality, or that the other “team” getting a turn represents the end of all that is virtuous and just.

it says a lot when a naturalized brit has a better understanding of our constitution than someone born and raised in the US.
