Why is Trump consolidating conservatives?

Let's be clear here folks. Conservatives are fired up (in both a positive and a pissed off manner) in a way that they have not been fired up since Trump has been President. Suddenly the midterms have meaning. Suddenly Republicans want to vote. Suddenly there is a certain sort of odd unity to the conservative cause that has been recently riddled with chasms.

Sure, much of this can be attributed to the actions of the left. From the Democrats at the highest levels (Chuck Schumer, Diane Feinstein), to low life liberals (with pink hair and way too heavy of brows) who suggest the assassination of Justice Kavanaugh on twitter; the way the Kavanaugh nomination was handled is seen as generally appalling by most everyone right of center. Nothing fires up Republicans more than asinine behavior from Democrats.

But lingering deep down below the surface is the fact that for once, the Republicans didn't just cave at the first sign of political trouble. Republicans and conservatives didn't immediately "distance themselves" or try to avoid confrontation and controversy at any cost. They didn't fold like a cheap suit. They didn't run screaming. For once they didn't become intimidated by, much less give into the mob. Instead they stood up, fought back, in what was almost a "shocking" display of courage and unity.

To be clear, the right had every chance to pull another Roy Moore scenario. Judge Justice Kavanaugh could have been abandoned by the right. He could have been pushed aside as political road kill. The mushy middle of the Republican Party could have called on the President to throw in the towel and nominate someone else, or even worse yet, had allowed the entire process to push everything out beyond the mid-terms. Which had all of that happened, the GOP would be looking down the double barrel of a fired up liberal base, along with a dejected and unenthusiastic conservative base, which ultimately would have led to a mid-term fiasco of epic proportions.

The reality here folks is that Brett Kavanaugh was about as well respected in the judicial community as you could possibly be, on both the right and the left. His credentials were about as good as it gets.  He was as well liked as any person ever to be nominated to the court. He was deeply religious. Was a dedicated family man. Was an asset to his community. He was, in many ways, an almost perfect candidate to put forward.

To put it bluntly. If what was done to Roy Moore (right or wrong) could be done to Brett Kavanaugh, then quite literally anyone at anytime could be brought down by any allegation of any sort what-so-ever. This entire scenario would hang over everyone and anyone who might decide to get involved in the political fray.

I strongly believe that this is part of why the right was so unified and fighting against this one. This wasn't just about Brett Kavanaugh, but this was (as Senator Collins suggested) about the overall concept of due process and the assumption of innocence. It was time to draw a line in the sand, and demand that simple allegations alone were not going to be allowed to bring down highly respected figures, and prevent them from otherwise garnering positions of significance. You would need to offer more than just a claim. You would need to at least attempt to prove your assertion.

Make no mistake. While the most crushing blow came from the Senator from Maine, this was an effort led by the President. As crass and as disruptive as Trump can be. As much as there are times when everyone would like him to just hold back and stay on point. There is never a question that Donald Trump is going to stand up and fight for whatever he believes is right. Moreover, he will never bring a knife to a gun fight.

The Brett Kavanaugh nomination battle was one of those fights that not only had to be fought, but it had to be won. In a fight like this (to channel Colonel Jessup)  you want a guy like Trump on your side. You need a guy like Trump on your side. For once, the entire spectrum of conservatives could see the benefit of Donald Trump, who stood firmly by his choice, remained confident and strong throughout the process. In the end, the right was rewarded for the fight, which brought them a little be closer to understanding the very essence of this President. Perhaps even understanding that there are times when he can (and should) be followed.

a kavanaugh circuit court ruling was upheld by the USSC today.

it had originally smacked down an 0linsky EPA over-reach.

Watched the Nikki Haley announcement this morning. Trump had hired her after she had supported Rubio and then Cruz but she made a point of showing all the respect she had for Trump and his results and saying she was going to actively campaign for him in 2020. Lots of love in the room, press appeared to be depressed and defeated... Quickly ran out of questions...

Things are looking great for 2020 and beyond.

After they way the Dems acted in the hearing was expected. But. Rolling out the white trash for cash was too much for this reasonable conservative.

"Actress Bette Midler tweeted that people will “burn, drown, or starve” due to climate change in a tweet sent Tuesday.

“Morning TV dedicates time to the new UN ClimateChangeReport, and it’s dire, dire dire. But PresidentMarcos, I mean Trump, doesn’t give a shit. I guess science was not his strong suit, nor is it the strength of the bums he surrounds himself with. You’ll burn, drown or starve,” Bette Midler tweeted."

Ok, and you changed your life style how?

Hurricane Michael may very well be a gift to Democrats since it's likely to depress turnout in the Republican heavy panhandle counties of Florida.

"“You cannot be civil with a political party that wants to destroy what you stand for, what you care about,” Clinton said.

Speaking to CNN’s Christiane Amanpour, the 2016 Democratic presidential nominee said, “That’s why I believe, if we are fortunate enough to win back the House and/or the Senate, that’s when civility can start again. But until then, the only thing Republicans seem to recognize and respect is strength.”

As Trump said; "That's why she lost. She'll never get it."

Two years ago almost every pollster said that Clinton was a slam dunk.

Every time Trump opens his mouth something happens. He has his White supremacists all fired up. I don't think that Kavanaugh will have any impact in 4 weeks. The attention span of most voters guarantees that.

The Democrats have pro health care, especially for preexisting conditions on their side. The educated suburban women are going to vote Democratic. The issue is getting the turnout above average for off year elections.

Trump and his supporters are cultists who believe that the Democratic party is a bunch of thugs who unfairly exposed the sexual predator unfairly and paid for by the Clintons. That's not going to get a big turnout because they hate Hillary.

The house is going to change hands. The trick is to get a 15 to 20 seats.

The Senate might surprise Democrats if the women who show up to vote for the President congres seat and vote for the Democratic senatorial candidate.

The Senate I'm not going to project either way.

If you agree with kput'z on my comment about the number of seats of the majority as a mistake on the number of seats required to achieve a majority you need help. I was commenting how many seats in the majority would be sufficient to give Speaker Pelosi enough votes to pass even an #impeachment indictment.

I read the oped written for the President. His claims that the Democrats are a mob and socialist haters of a capitalist economy. You are so far up his ass that you can't see that he's the greatest threat to our nation since the Civil War.

well sport, democrats ARE on the record in favor of undoing the tax cuts, they ARE on the record as demanding open borders, they ARE acting out in mobs large and small like antifa in portland and the soros goons last week in DC, and they ARE nominating socialist fuckwits like alexandria fucktardio cortez whose ideas are just as thoughtless as the parasites they appeal to.

After the previous election:

The Republicans held 241 seats
Democrats held 194 seats

Currently according to Wikipedia Republicans have 238, Democrats 191, and there are six vacancies. According to RCP it's 236, 193, with six vacancies.

The side that wins 218 seats will have the majority.

So not sure how you want to define "pick ups"...

But the Democrats will need to win 19 seats currently held by Republicans, and sweep the other six that are currently vacant to garner a majority (at least three of them were held by Republicans and would be considered pick ups). For every Democratic or vacant seat that they lose, they will need to pick up another seat currently held by a Republican.

In the simplest terms, they need at least a 22 seat pick up to win the House back.

C.H. Truth said...

Well Roger...

I've heard at least three allegations brought forward that you have fallen off the wagon.

Those allegations have the exact same amount of proof and corroboration as do the allegations against Kavanaugh?

What's more... Kavanaugh doesn't carry on like a sexual predator, whereas you certainly carry on around here very often just like an incoherent saucemeister would.

Explain why you don't believe these "very credible" allegations against you?

when it comes to some serious drama queen histrionics, it looks like the alky has some company:

There is a 25 percent chance of a nightmare scenario for Democrats on Election Day that should sear bone-chilling alarm into the soul of every Democratic leader, donor, worker, registered voter and former president and presidential nominee.

Democrats could lose one or two Senate seats, continuing a Republican Senate that is even further to the right and even more partisan than the GOP majority today.

The Supreme Court begins its current session with a solid 5-4 conservative majority that is much further to the right, and far more prone to party-line votes of Republican justices, than any Supreme Court in generations.

If this nightmare scenario for Democrats and America unfolds on Election Day, a vindictive and triumphant Trump — having won a victory for the politics of hatred, fear and national division — will stand alongside Republican leaders of the new Republican Congress feeling he has achieved an unstoppable dominance over his party, our country and every branch of government with all checks and balances destroyed.

If this nightmare scenario for democracy unfolds on Election Day, Trump will almost immediately fire Attorney General Jeff Sessions and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, and launch an all-out effort to destroy the investigation of special counsel Robert Mueller which will be met with champagne celebrations by Russian dictator Vladimir Putin and his henchmen in Moscow who will feel triumphant about their attacks against Western democracy.

This code red alert warns about the danger of so much unchecked power concentrated in the hands of a president who tried to criminalize his opponent in the last election, demonize the free press as the enemy of the people, and characterize women who opposed his Supreme Court nominee as “evil.”
