Following the decision, stocks erased gains, 10-year Treasury yields fell and the dollar bounced off its lows of the day. Investors may have been swayed by the Fed’s generally upbeat analysis and expectation of more rate increases than markets anticipate.
Chairman Jerome Powell, speaking at a press conference after the decision on Wednesday, stressed that policy was not on a preset course.
“There’s significant uncertainty about the -- both the path and the ultimate destination of any further rate increases,” Powell told reporters. “Inflation has still remained just a touch below two percent. So I do think that gives the committee the ability to be patient in moving forward.”
Powell and his colleagues said “economic activity has been rising at a strong rate,’’ according to a statement following the two-day meeting in Washington. While officials said risks to their outlook “are roughly balanced,’’ they flagged threats from a softening world economy.
The Federal Open Market Committee “will continue to monitor global economic and financial developments and assess their implications for the economic outlook,” the statement said. The 10-0 decision lifted the federal funds rate target to a range of 2.25 percent to 2.5 percent. So the odd thing about this was the fact that the vote was 10-0. With as many economists believing that it was time to put the breaks on another rate increase, one might think that there might be some disagreement, postering, or negotiations.
But it appears as if the Feds are going to continue to raise rates until they can get this damned 3-4 percent growth subdued. All this economic growth can't be too healthy?

TDS has infected the FED, and they're willing to destroy the economy if they have to to get rid of trump.
The Federal Reserve on Wednesday confirmed fears that the U.S. economy is slowing and ratcheted back its plan to raise interest rates next year. But the central bank still hiked its benchmark interest rate a quarter-point, and markets plunged out of concern that the Fed may not be adequately reacting to the risks facing the global economy.
Fed Chair Jerome H. Powell professed confidence that the economy remained “healthy” and “solid” and said he did not see any reason to sharply change the Fed’s path of gradually pulling back support for it. But he acknowledged that the economy is showing signs of “softening” and that there is a “fairly high degree of uncertainty” about what the Fed will do.
President Trump, who appointed Powell to the top job at the Fed a year ago, had urged the central bank to stop raising interest rates. Trump has called the Fed “foolish” and “crazy” for hiking rates when there is little sign of inflation, and he has blamed Powell for the stock market slump in recent months. U.S. stocks are on track to have their worst year in a decade.
The "lost years" are looking much better than Trump was elected.

U.S. ally in Syria says pullout will aid IS, cause instability
The Associated Press
8:57AM
BEIRUT (AP) — The United States' main ally in Syria on Thursday categorically rejected President Donald Trump's claim that Islamic State group militants have been defeated and warned that the withdrawal of American troops before accomplishing that goal would lead to a resurgence of the extremist group.
The Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces said in a strongly worded statement laced with bitterness that a premature U.S. pullout would have dangerous repercussions and a destabilizing effect on the entire region.
"The war against terrorism has not ended and (the Islamic State group) has not been defeated," the statement said, adding that the fight against IS was at a "decisive" stage that requires even more support from the U.S.-led coalition. It was the first official comment by the group on Trump's surprise announcement.
Trump's decision to withdraw troops from Syria has rattled Washington's Kurdish allies, who are its most reliable partner in the country and among the most effective ground forces battling IS. With U.S. air support, the Kurds drove IS from much of northern and eastern Syria in a costly four-year campaign.

Putin Praises Trump’s Decision on Syria
7:08 am
“Russian President Vladimir Putin praised President Trump’s decision to withdraw U.S. troops from Syria, describing the American presence there as illegitimate and the Islamic State as largely defeated on the ground,” the Washington Post reports.
“Putin told journalists at his annual year-end news conference that the Islamic State has suffered ‘serious blows’ in Syria.”
Said Putin: “On this, Donald is right. I agree with him.”
wtf does the "pastor" think any of this cut-n-paste spam has to do with the Fed or interest rates?
and is he advocating to leave a costly and large military presence at our border in the absence of the wall because that works where they are deployed ?

Conservatives Angry Over Short Term Spending Bill
Playbook: “Late last night, the Senate passed the short-term government funding bill by a unanimous voice vote just after 10 p.m… House Republicans have not decided whether to pass this bill today — they put off a decision last night. They have a party meeting at 10 a.m., but they had a rough night last night. The whip team surveyed House Republicans last night and found out that southern lawmakers were peeved the short-term spending bill included no disaster money. To be sure, the stopgap spending bill would likely still pass, being carried mostly by Democrats.
“Conservative in the House Freedom Caucus are livid, and they took to the floor last night to rap Republicans for not building the wall as part of this spending bill. The topic took up the first 10 minutes of Fox News’ “Hannity” last night. Expect to see Freedom Caucus folks all day today on Fox News to try to tell the president he shouldn’t fold.”

Republicans Condemn Trump’s Surprise Syria Decision
GOP senators leveled “blistering criticism” at Vice President Mike Pence for President Trump’s decision to withdraw from Syria, “with multiple Republican senators expressing outrage and frustration,” Politico reports.
“Pence was dispatched to the Hill as the administration began absorbing a torrent of condemnation from hawkish Republicans, who blasted the White House announcement that the U.S. and its allies have defeated the Islamic State in Syria and that some of the 2,000 U.S. troops battling the terrorist group will begin coming home.
“Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) told Pence he was ‘personally offended’ to read about the decision in the news rather than hearing from the president or his aides.”

Trump Ignored Defense Secretary on Syria
December 19
“President Trump’s decision to abruptly withdraw troops from Syria is a clear rebuke to Defense Secretary Jim Mattis, the last remaining member of a retinue of military men Trump once fondly called ‘my generals,'” the Washington Post reports.
“Mattis had argued that the counterterrorism mission in Syria is not over and that the small U.S. presence in Syria should remain… The Pentagon chief also had tried to explain to Trump that there would be more chaos in the region and future problems for the United States if the troops leave.”
A senior administration official told CNN that Trump’s decision to withdraw troops is “a mistake of colossal proportions and the President fails to see how it will endanger our country.”

Russia's Putin accuses U.S. of raising risk of nuclear war
9:42AM
MOSCOW, Dec 20 (Reuters) - President Vladimir Putin on Thursday accused the United States of raising the risk of nuclear war by threatening to spurn a key arms control treaty and refusing to hold talks about another pact that expires soon.
In a news conference that lasted more than three hours, Putin also backed U.S. President Donald Trump's decision to pull troops out of Syria, said British Prime Minister Theresa May had no choice but to implement Brexit and that Western democracy was under serious strain.
The annual event, the 14th of its kind, is used by Putin to burnish his leadership credentials and send messages to foreign allies and foes.
This year, he made clear his biggest worry was what he called a dangerous new arms race, something he accused the United States of stoking by turning its back on arms control.
Washington has threatened to pull out of the 1987 Intermediate-range Nuclear Forces Treaty (INF) which bans Moscow and Washington from stationing short- and intermediate-range, land-based missiles in Europe.
Putin said the move, if it happened, would have unpredictable consequences.
"We are essentially witnessing the breakdown of the international arms control order and (the start of) an arms race," Putin told more than 1,000 reporters.
"It's very hard to imagine how the situation will develop (if the United States quits the INF treaty). If these missiles appear in Europe what should we do? Of course, we'll have to ensure our own security."
Putin has previously said that Russia would be forced to train its own missiles on any European countries that host U.S. rockets.
Another U.S.-Russia treaty, the New START pact, which limits the number of deployed strategic nuclear warheads each side can have, expires in 2021. Putin said he was worried that Washington didn't appear to be interested in discussing its future.
"No talks on extending this are yet being held. Are the Americans not interested, do they not need them? Ok, we'll survive and will ensure our own security, which we know how to do. But in general, this is very bad for humankind because it takes us closer to a dangerous threshold."
GROWING THREAT
The Russian leader, who said Moscow had developed nuclear weapons which he believed gave it an edge over other countries, warned the threat of a nuclear conflict was growing as a result of the U.S. moves. He also cited the dangerous tendency of lowering the threshold for using nuclear weapons and the idea of using ballistic missiles with conventional warheads.
"If, God forbid, something like that were to happen, it would lead to the end of all civilisation and maybe also the planet," said Putin.
But though Putin criticized Washington, he made clear that he still hoped to meet Trump sometime soon, saying it was important the two leaders discussed issues such as arms control.
With relations between Moscow and Washington strained by everything from Ukraine to hacking allegations, Putin said he did not know when a meeting with Trump might take place however.
Putin won a landslide re-election victory in March, giving him six more years in power. Although he faces no serious political threat for now, plans to sharply raise the pension age saw his approval rating fall to below 60 percent for the first time in five years.

Paul Ryan Was Unusually Dishonest
Jonathan Bernstein: “Paul Ryan gave a farewell speech to the House of Representatives on Wednesday. He won’t be missed. Ryan was badly cast as speaker of the House from the start, and failed to ever really grow into the job. But that wasn’t the worst of it.”
“One problem for Ryan was HONESTY. For me, the core example was his convention speech in 2012 as a vice-presidential candidate. That Ryan acted as an attack dog and exaggerated some facts was no big deal. But what was unusually dishonest was a particular attack on President Barack Obama: ‘He created a bipartisan debt commission,’ Ryan said. ‘They came back with an urgent report. He thanked them, sent them on their way, and then DID EXACTLY NOTHING.'”
“This was extraordinary. Ryan himself was not only on that bipartisan commission, HE WAS THE ONE who torpedoed the ‘urgent report,’ which NEVER REACHED THE PRESIDENT because of Ryan’s own actions.
"It’s one thing to push the boundaries of the truth or to engage in clever spin, but Ryan’s attack was pure fantasy that transferred his own actions to his opponent.”
"The president is spot on," Cramer said on CNBC's "Mad Money" on Wednesday evening, after the Powell Fed raised rates for the fourth time in 2018 and projected two more increases next year. "The Fed is perfectly happy to gradually strangle the economy, the U.S. economy, in order to stamp out inflation, or the potential of inflation. And that's bad news for corporate earnings" and the stock market.
Cramer has been saying for months there's no need to worry about inflation since it's not problematically high, and that the economy is showing pockets of weakness. Taken together, those factors indicate the Fed should pause rate hike, he has argued.
"If I were running Trump's re-election campaign, Jay Powell would be my worst nightmare," said Cramer, who, like the president, has been calling on Powell to stop. Powell apologists, "they must have no sense or empathy for what's about to happen to the working person in this country," Cramer added.

2 moderate Kansas GOP legislators defect to Democrats
TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) — Two moderate Republican legislators in Kansas became Democrats on Wednesday, capping an unprecedented round of GOP defections in the Kansas City suburbs that soured on President Donald Trump and a close political ally of his in this year's race for governor.
State Sen. Dinah Sykes and Rep. Stephanie Clayton joined two other moderate lawmakers who switched last week. All four women are from Johnson County, which is the state's most populous county and which Democratic Gov.-elect Laura Kelly carried in the November election.
Kelly defeated conservative Republican Kris Kobach, the Kansas secretary of state who trumpeted his endorsement by Trump. Kansas City-area voters also showed their displeasure with the president by electing Democrat Sharice Davids, a Native American and LGBT lawyer, to Congress, ousting Republican incumbent Kevin Yoder.
Clayton said her decision to leave the GOP was prompted by concerns that its leaders are not committed to boosting public school funding. She also acknowledged that her constituents, particularly women, are upset with Trump and said her discomfort with his policies helped pushed her to leave the GOP.
"I hear every day from people who have been Republicans for their lives, lifelong, and they just said, 'I can't do this anymore. This is not what I stand for,' and that's how I felt," Sykes said. "I'm better served to focus on my job than trying to defend the Republican Party."

the Fed didn't need to rise the interest rates because there was no fear of inflation.
The Fed didn't raise the rates when Obama was President because the economy was not strong enough to handle it.
This economy has handled the quarterly bumps and still groans on. Either the Fed is correct and there will be no recession (which is why they can continue to increase interest rates) or they are wrong, incompetent, or possibly looking to slow things down on purpose (for whatever reasons).
That being said, higher interest rates are bad for new investment, but we may be seeing some better interest returns on the flip side.

And during Barack Obama’s eight years, there has only been one rate increase the entire time up until this point.
But now that Donald Trump is headed for the White House, the Federal Reserve has decided that now would be a wonderful time to raise interest rates. In addition to the rate hike on Wednesday, the Fed also announced that it is anticipating that rates will be raised three more times each year through the end of 2019…"

Trump Opposes Deal to Avert Shutdown
President Trump “will not commit to signing legislation that would avoid a partial government shutdown on Saturday, his press secretary said, further roiling a chaotic debate that is splintering the Republican Party,” the Washington Post reports.
Said press secretary Sarah Sanders: “At this moment, the President does not want to go further without border security, which includes steel slats or a wall. The President is continuing to weigh his options.”
New York Times: “House Republicans emerged from a conference meeting Thursday morning disgruntled and without a guarantee from the leadership that the president would support a bill that would extend the government funding for nine federal departments past the Friday midnight deadline and into early February. The White House called an emergency meeting with House Republicans for noon.”

Trump Told GOP Leaders He Won’t Sign Funding Bill
“Speaker of the House Paul Ryan said outside of the White House that President Trump informed House Republican leaders that he would not sign a short-term spending bill passed by the Senate ‘because of legitimate concerns about border security,'” Axios reports.
“Ryan said the House would attempt to pass a bill with funding for Trump’s border wall. It’s unclear if the bill will garner enough support, suggesting the government may be heading for a partial shutdown Friday at midnight.”
Playbook: “This is, in some ways, the most fitting way to end this wild, wild two-year congressional session. Since January 2017, two pairs of Republicans have been whispering in the president’s ear, giving him divergent views of how to govern: Meadows and Jordan, and Ryan and McCarthy.”

How the Funding Fight Might Shake Out
Playbook: “Well, if we had to guess, the GOP is going to put $5 billion in the stopgap somehow. That might or might not pass the House — attendance is down big time, with 52 people missing the last vote this morning. If the bill does clear the House, it will go to the Senate, where it will not go anywhere. Then there will be a choice: Enough Republicans get on board with Democrats to pass the stopgap, or keep the government shut down until Jan. 3, when Nancy Pelosi will be able to open it up.”

Trump Doubles-Down on Losing Strategy
Ron Brownstein: “With his threat to shut down the federal government unless he receives funding for his border wall, President Trump is employing a tactic that is unpopular to advance a goal that may be even more unpopular.”
“Trump’s threats — and the muted public resistance to them from GOP congressional leaders — offer the latest evidence that the party’s drubbing in the midterm election has not changed the White House’s fundamental strategic calculus.”
“Though the proposed border wall faces widespread opposition among all the groups in the electorate that powered the big Democratic gains in the House last month, and government shutdowns historically have alienated a broad range of the public, both the end and the means remain popular among the President’s core supporters.”

The government has accepted large private donations before, most recently a billionaire donated $7.5 Million to fund half of the Washington Monument repairs in 2012; this is no different.
Like a majority of those American citizens who voted to elect President Donald J Trump, we voted for him to Make America Great Again. President Trump’s main campaign promise was to BUILD THE WALL. And as he’s followed through on just about every promise so far, this wall project needs to be completed still.
As a veteran who has given so much, 3 limbs, I feel deeply invested to this nation to ensure future generations have everything we have today. Too many Americans have been murdered by illegal aliens and too many illegals are taking advantage of the United States taxpayers with no means of ever contributing to our society.
I have grandparents who immigrated to America legally, they did it the correct way and it's time we uphold our laws, and get this wall BUILT!It’s up to Americans to help out and pitch in to get this project rolling.
“If the 63 million people who voted for Trump each pledge $80, we can build the wall.” That equates to roughly 5Billion Dollars, even if we get half, that's half the wall. We can do this.
Democrats are going to stall this project by every means possible and play political games to ensure President Trump doesn’t get his victor. They'd rather see President Trump fail, than see America succeed. However, if we can fund a large portion of this wall, it will jumpstart things and will be less money Trump has to secure from our politicians.
This won’t be easy, but it’s our duty as citizens. This needs to be shared every single day by each of you on social media. We can do it, and we can help President Trump make America safe again!

QUESTION: If Donald Trump is so afraid of all his dark (evil and illegal) secrets being exposed (by Robert Mueller), then why did he run for president of the United States?
Clarissa May ASWERED 9h ago:
He RAN for President because he just wanted free publicity to get a higher salary from NBC for his The Apprentice Show. Plus, he was trying desperately to get the attention of Putin so that he could build his “crown jewel” Trump Tower in Moscow. He offered Putin the penthouse suite to sweeten the deal.
He never thought he would win the election. He thought after the election, he would go back to his career as a real estate mogul with the Moscow Trump Tower and a much higher salary from NBC as the end results. He underestimated that his racist rhetoric would fuel his racist base (who had been seething under their rocks for years) and they would come out in droves to the polls in 2016.
Because he continued to work with the Russians on his Moscow deal during his campaign, he is in gross violation of the law. He thought he could get away with it but he underestimated the power of law under the Constitution, and the persistence of Mueller in uncovering every detail of his corruption. He overestimated the loyalty of those involved in the corruption… Flynn…Cohen… to name a few.
Now, Trump and his family’s crimes are flapping in the wind for all to see. He makes Nixon’s level of corruptions look like school boy pranks. He ( and the country) would have been better off if he had not won. Unfortunately there is no “redo” button. It’s ironic that for all his rhetoric to “lock up” Hillary for a few e-mails, that he is the one who is facing jail-time once the full extent of all his crimes are tried before a judge.

You are truly a fucking idiot
Is Quora credible?
Quora is not a source of information or an editor of information. Quora is a forum, just like yahoo answers. So basically Quora is neither credible and neither not credible.

Winning bigly as he appeases the base base who obviously don't own stocks as the dow is down 8% for the year....but will shut down to get the wall....doesn't have the votes in the house!!! How can that be??????
He's losing control of his mind.
He's desperate to keep his base happy. He's making you happy. But 60% Americans disagree with you.
Merry Christmas to you but not the American people.
CNN A holiday government shutdown appeared more likely on Thursday after President Donald Trump informed House Republicans he would refuse to accept a stop-gap measure -- already passed by the Senate -- that doesn't include funds for his long-promised border wall.
What was once a deal to avoid a Christmas partial shutdown was torpedoed Thursday by conservatives and Trump, who unleashed fury at another agreement that stops short of providing the $5 billion the President has demanded for the border.
It was a closing burst of wrath in the final days of the Republican-majority House. If Trump cannot secure the money he is demanding for the wall now, it's unlikely he will see a spending bill that meets his requirement for at least two years as Democrats assume control.
