Who backs down?

Let's be clear here folks, this is not about a lousy five billion dollars. This will boil down to a matter of pride, a matter of determination, and a matter of which side wants it most.

I believe that the President and the GOP will likely take the brunt of the blame in the media. However, that still doesn't carry much weight in 2018, as most conservatives will brush that off as media partisanship and fake news.

The question is which core base will be willing to stick it out. There is no immediate election to worry about, and there will be more than enough time to temper the politics of this whole thing. I think it boils down to which side will blink.

The President and GOP had their eyes about 99% closed, but then stopped the full blink just in the nick of time. Does this make it more or less likely that they are ultimately the side that flinches? All that being said, this was the President's signature campaign promise. He is two years into his first term, and he still hasn't gotten a dime of real funding.

I can see this lasting a while.

Sure guys...

Let's make all funding "pay as you go"!!!

We can also divvy up the current spending (that comes from my tax dollars) and let the population decide what projects get money. You want to bet as to whether or not enough people would be in favor of a wall that they wouldn't get 5 billion? That would be less than 0.15% of the fiscal budget. Gee if half of the country thought we should spend like a half percent on a wall, then they could probably fund a gold plated wall!

You really think Obamacare is like 100 times more popular than a wall? Liberals would run out of money so fast trying to divvy it all up!

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

For once I actually don't disagree with you.

With the exception of the tax cuts, he hasn't fulfilled any of his campaign promises. The justifications for the wall, are still revolting. They are racist and angry incorrect reasons for the wall.

Threatening to close the government over the funding of his wall is increasingly difficult to justify outside of his base voters.

He will not get the wall. But it is not going away. His tweets are not going away either.

If he continues with his behavior could actually lead to impeachment. Despite the Republicans have control of the Senate.

ace 'get's it:'

Trillions taken in taxes and we're forced, in desperation, to self fund a border wall. Of course, that effort will be stiff armed as well, probably through the courts.

I'm proud that we upset the apple cart with this last presidential election, but it appears to be just one more failed attempt to work through the system.

Guys, I don't think we're going to vote our way out of any of this.

By the way, I found this today. It's not directly related, but a perfect example of how the government consistently throws its resources to ne'er-do-well special interests while screwing the nose-to-the grindstone dirt people so reviled by the Ruling Class.

"Heart disease funding: $1.3 billion. Mortality rate: 1,202,319

Coronary heart disease funding: $431 million. Mortality rate: 536,339

AIDS/HIV funding: $2.9 billion. Mortality rate: 8,300"

https://report.nih.gov/categorical_spending.aspx

Ain't that something? The federal government spends more on AIDS/HIV research, an almost completely preventable disease that kills relatively few people in a mostly select group each year than it does on heart disease, a condition that kills about 1.7 million a year.

Go have yourself some unprotected butt sex with multiple strangers, and the entirety of the government will be working feverishly to come up with a solution to your self inflicted health crisis.

Dad has a heart attack due to the stress of company layoffs and...meh. Whatever. Learn to code if you manage to recover. And clean up your eating, asshole.

Let's shift back to the border wall.

"The chamber approved the measure to keep the government running into February by a 217-185 vote. But the path forward now is murky. The bill likely will not clear the Senate because it includes more than $5 billion for the border barrier, increasing the chances that funding for seven agencies lapses after the midnight Friday deadline."

$2.9 billion annually for AIDS funding = totally noncontroversial, not even worth mention, really.

$5 billion for border security = government shutdown.

Yeah, we're not voting our way out of this.

they are not at all.

you guys just like to call them that.

at the turn of the 20th century we had strict border and immigration policy. we managed quite tightly who got in and why. those who did get in assimilated, thrived, made significant positive contributions to their local communities and the nation as a whole.

then, back in 1965 when i was just a tot and just a few years before he murdered a woman, teddy kennedy looked out beyond our borders to the great expanse of third world shitholes.

and what did he see?

votes. lots and lots and lots of democrat votes.

so teddy then proceeded to loosen our immigration policy beyond recognition, instituting what would become a massive open borders policy in all but name.

fast forward to the present day and according to yale we're up to over 20 MILLION illegals. ALL of which broke our laws to get here, and many of which are committing violent felonies as we speak.

and in pursuit of those cherished democrat votes, we get shit like this:

On Monday, law enforcement said Garcia-Ruiz carried out a string of random acts of violence in Tulare County, including killing a stranger and shooting at others, before he died following a police chase in Porterville. Boudreaux said Garcia-Ruiz committed at least 11 different crimes during that rampage, and that a Lindsay Police Department investigation is showing “strong evidence” that Garcia-Ruiz may also be responsible for a homicide Sunday in Lindsay.

https://www.fresnobee.com/news/local/crime/article223318080.html

you can call it whatever the fuck you want, alky.

but the reality is we need to seal the fucking border. we're being invaded. and your quest for a permanent democrat ruling majority is a fucking suicide mission for anyone with respect to our national sovereignty and the rule of law..

But what about people who enter our country illegally? The CDC specifically cites the possibility of the cross-border movement of HIV, measles, pertussis, rubella, rabies, hepatitis A, influenza, tuberculosis, shigellosis and syphilis. Chris Cabrera, a Border Patrol agent in South Texas, warned: "What's coming over into the U.S. could harm everyone. We are starting to see scabies, chickenpox, methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus infections and different viruses." Some of the youngsters illegally entering our country are known to be carrying lice and suffering from various illnesses. Because there have been no medical examinations of undocumented immigrants, we have no idea how many are carrying infectious diseases that might endanger American children when these immigrants enter schools across our nation.

According to the CDC, in most industrialized countries, the number of cases of tuberculosis and the number of deaths caused by TB steadily declined during the 100 years prior to the mid-1980s. Since the '80s, immigrants have reversed this downward trend in countries that have had substantial levels of immigration from areas where the disease is prevalent. In 2002, the CDC said: "Today, the proportion of immigrants among persons reported as having TB exceeds 50 percent in several European countries, including Denmark, Israel, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, and Switzerland. A similar proportion has been predicted for the United States" (http://tinyurl.com/yca3y3zs). The number of active TB cases among American-born citizens declined from an estimated 17,725 in 1986 to 3,201 in 2015. That was an 80 percent drop. Data reported to the National Tuberculosis Surveillance System show that the TB incidence among foreign-born people in the United States (15.1 cases per 100,000) is approximately 13 times the incidence among U.S.-born people (1.2 cases per 100,000). Those statistics refer to immigrants who are legally in the U.S. There is no way for us to know the incidence of tuberculosis and other diseases carried by those who are in our country illegally and hence not subject to medical examination.

Trump Criticized For Breaking With Longstanding American Tradition Of Remaining In Middle Eastern Countries Indefinitely

WASHINGTON, D.C.—After Trump announced that US troops would be pulled out of Syria, the President was quickly criticized by leaders on both the left and the right for breaking with the longstanding American tradition of remaining in Middle Eastern countries indefinitely.

Trump drew ire from both sides of the aisle for his "careless and reckless" disregard for the beloved American custom of meddling overseas without a congressional declaration of war and then hanging around for another few decades.

"Occupying a country on the other side of the globe and staying there forever is an American pastime," said a CNN host. "For Trump to pull out when we haven't even been there a decade yet is a disgusting display of his selfishness and unwillingness to conform to the standards of presidential decorum."

"Has he no respect for our ways of life?" the host concluded gravely.

In a rare moment of unity, pundits on Fox News agreed. "We just need another 20 or 30 years in Syria, and we can accomplish our goals," said a morning host on the right-leaning news station. "He didn't even really give our soldiers a chance to settle in."

"This is America, for goodness' sake—land of the free and home of messing with other countries' affairs. I don't like criticizing the president, but he's way off on this one," he added.

‘There’s Going to Be an Intervention’
10:44 am

Washington Post:
“Inside the Oval Office on Thursday, Trump was in what one Republican close to the White House described as ‘a tailspin,’ acting ‘totally irrationally’ and ‘flipping out’ over criticisms in the media. The president’s decisions and conduct have led to a fracturing of Trump’s coalition. Hawks condemned his sudden decision to withdraw U.S. troops from Syria. Conservatives called him a ‘gutless president’ and questioned whether he would ever build a wall. Political friends began privately questioning whether Trump needed to be reined in.”

Said one former Trump administration official: “There’s going to be an intervention. Jim Mattis just sent a shot across the bow. Currently, no further treatment is planned. Justice Ginsburg is resting comfortably and is expected to remain in the hospital for a few days.”

The day that President Trump ordered the withdrawal of American troops from Syria, the Islamic State claimed that it had set off a bomb in Raqqa, the group’s former capital, killing a Kurdish fighter.

It was a small, isolated attack, but the Islamic State’s boast was a canny assertion of the stakes in the American withdrawal — and an indication that the group was looking forward to exploiting a changed reality in Syria.

The United States withdrawal announced Wednesday is seen by analysts as an abandonment of America’s key allies in Syria, the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces, and a boon for the Islamic State — which still controls territory in southeastern Syria, is believed to still have thousands of fighters there and has continued to carry out attacks.

Sign Up For the Morning Briefing Newsletter

The withdrawal is also expected to give a green light to Turkey to carry out its threatened invasion of northeastern Syria, a move likely to draw Kurdish forces from the fight against the Islamic State in the southeast.

Whether or not the Islamic State can rebound, after being driven out of most of its territory in Iraq and Syria, for now it is the Kurdish minority that is caught in the middle.

The Kurdish leaders of the Syrian Democratic Forces refrained from reacting to the announced withdrawal immediately, with many saying they were waiting to learn the details.

But Alan Hassan, a Kurdish journalist based in Qamishli, Syria, said the Kurds were simply stunned.

“We are shocked,” he said in an email. “The atmosphere here is so negative.”

Analysts were even less restrained.

Asli Aydintasbas, a senior fellow with the European Council for Foreign Relations, said the United States was on the “verge of another historic betrayal of the Kurds,” which could lead to a prolonged battle inside Syria between the Kurds and the Turks, who consider the Kurds a threat to their government.

A man who attacked police with a sword outside Buckingham Palace while repeatedly screaming Allahu Akbar has been found not guilty of preparing acts of terrorism.

Mohiussunnath Chowdhury, 27, told jurors his claims to support ISIS were 'in jest' and his attack was because he was 'depressed' and 'wanted police to kill him'.

They unanimously acquitted the Uber driver, who lashed out at three officers on August 25 last year.

One of the officers said he had 'fought for his life' in the terrifying incident but a jury had failed to reach a verdict in June this year.
