A bit nippy out there...

Temperatures to plunge to 'historic' lows not seen in decades
Forecasters warned late Tuesday that the harsh winter blast that has already killed at least five people would worsen dramatically on Wednesday, saying the expected conditions could be the coldest in a generation.
The National Weather Service described the polar vortex system surging from the north as "one of the coldest arctic air mass intrusions in recent memory." It said bitterly cold, very dangerous wind chills would spread across much of the eastern two-thirds of the country, "likely leading to widespread record lows and low maximum temperatures" plunging more than 20 degrees below zero in the Midwest.

If my dad was still around, he would have put on a windbreaker. Maybe even put on a pair of gloves. It's really that cold. Oh, and you know it's cold in Minnesota when they close hockey arenas. Not the outdoor rinks, but the indoor arenas.

I hear climate scientists are now worried about an upcoming mini-ice age. Wouldn't that just be a kick in the teeth.

was your dad Bud Grant?

Doesn't negate the overall warming trend.

What warming trend?

The overall one, stupid.

* with adjustments of course

My Dad was not Bud Grant.

But Bud Grant's winter clothing wardrobe is not all that unusual up here. Yesterday it was about 30 degrees below zero and I had a hoodie working as my jacket. Of course, I had a winter jacket, ski-mask, and gloves in the car in case I broke down and had to get somewhere. But I have a heated garage, I park in a fairly enclosed parking ramp at work. In and out.

I remember my dad out in the driveway changing oil in the car in the middle of the winter, wearing a heavy flannel shirt and sometimes a hat if it got real cold.

Ah yes, the habitrail tubes from parking decks to office buildings in Minneapolis. I recall them well

And the cultist deniers will all side with donnie the blithering idiot and Lil scotty on this....

As exceptionally cold air bore down on the Midwest Tuesday, President Trump took the opportunity, as he has before, to advertise his ill-informed speculation that cold weather disproves the fact of climate change.

“In the beautiful Midwest, windchill temperatures are reaching minus 60 degrees, the coldest ever recorded,” the president tweeted Monday night. “In coming days, expected to get even colder. People can’t last outside even for minutes. What the hell is going on with Global Waming [sic]? Please come back fast, we need you!”

Global warming, of course, hasn’t gone anywhere. Scientists say this week’s so-called polar vortex is affecting the United States because a sudden jolt of warm air in the Arctic last month moved part of the icy air mass south.

“Where the polar vortex goes, so goes the cold air,” Judah Cohen, a winter storm expert for Atmospheric and Environmental Research, told the Associated Press. There’s only so much cold air to go around, and some climatologists suspect that global warming is actually contributing to instability in the jet stream, which has brought extreme winter weather to the continental United States in the last decade.

On Tuesday, temperatures from the Dakotas to Minnesota dropped as low as minus 27 degrees, with wind chills as cold as minus 59. On Wednesday, the high temperature in Chicago is predicted to be minus 12 degrees, which would set a record for the coldest high temperature ever recorded in the Windy City.

The forecast for Fairbanks, Alaska, was for a high of 12 above zero.

“Chicago Will Be Colder Than Mount Everest, Antarctica, And Siberia On Wednesday,” blared a chyron on CBS-2 Chicago.

While Trump may not understand how global warming can lead to extreme cold, members of his own government made a point of reminding Americans of just that Tuesday.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Twitter feed appeared to be reacting directly to Trump’s weather commentary when it tweeted a message dispelling a myth about winter storms.

But a spokeswoman for NOAA denied that the agency’s tweet was a response to Trump.

“With the blast of severe winter weather affecting the U.S., we often get asked about the relationship between cold weather and climate change. We routinely put this story out at these times,” spokeswoman Monica Allen told The Hill. “Our scientists weren’t responding to a tweet.”

Heh, I just love it when so called climate experts makes asses out of themselves,

So it is remarkable that just 13 days ago, the Minneapolis Star Tribune assured us that cold temperatures are a thing of the past, even in northern Minnesota:

“We just don’t expect temperatures to be below 10 degrees Fahrenheit in Duluth anymore,” [Tracy] Twine said.

Heh. Great prediction. Ms Twine is an “expert” on climate who testified before the Minnesota House Energy and Climate Committee on January 15. I ripped her testimony, which as usual was based entirely on models that are known to be wrong, here. Ms. Twine assured lawmakers that declining snowfalls in northern Minnesota are due to man-made global warming. Only she forgot to check the weather records: snowfall in northern Minnesota is increasing, not decreasing.

And of course, those who said we would no longer be seeing cold weather in Duluth–150 miles north of the Twin Cities!–failed to foresee the current epic cold snap, which was just days away. Nevertheless, their models, which are programmed to produce politically-desired results, tell us with great confidence what the weather will be like in 100 years. Right. Fortunately, not many people are still buying the global warming scam.
