- The desire to limit the number of detention beds is literally not supported by anyone involved with ICE, DHS, or local law enforcement. It is purely a political game, that has no element what-so-ever with anything even remotely logical.
- This came out of nowhere. It was not previously discussed and only became a thing over the past few days of negotiations.
- It's a poison pill that was designed as an attempt to reset the negotiations that were not making Pelosi and other hardliners happy. They were losing and want a do-over.
- Democrats obviously feel that the media will continue to carry their water and bail them out on this. It is literally a move that almost has no logical defense.
The biggest piece of rhetoric (and proof positive that Democrats understand that their rank and file are deeply infected with TDS) is that somehow who is arrested and detained is somehow the decision of Donald Trump and top members of his administration. The decisions on who to arrest and who to detain are law enforcement decisions.
The concept that the Obama administration may have artificially limited the number of people who could be arrested and detained (to prevent law enforcement from enforcing the law) is not normal behavior for any government, anywhere, at any time in our history, or any history that I know of.
So far, I have seen no media (not even the WaPo or NYTimes) really push the Democratic narrative as they generally do. Rather than sell opinion as news, they are actually pretty much just providing the facts (as if nobody is really right or wrong). This strongly suggests that even they are slightly embarrassed to push the talking points of the left.
A continuing resolution for keeping spending at current levels (through the end of the year) would still provide the President with $1.3 billion in money for the border barrier (as that is what was in last year's budget). In that instance, the President would get money for his "wall" (and possibly secure more) but the Democrats would get no concessions in return.
I look for the Democrats to ultimately cave on this one as well. While they may believe that instinctively it's their job to put "limits" on what the Administration can do, limiting how many criminals can be arrested and detained is an untenable position to keep. They need to get "something" in return or the President will walk away with wall money free and clear.

Budget deal reach. Let the Spam begin.

Washington — After hours of deliberations, Republican and Democratic appropriators said Monday night they have reached "an agreement in principle" on legislation to fund the government past the Friday deadline and avert another shutdown.
Lawmakers were scrambling to flesh out an agreement and have a budget measure ready before the current continuing resolution (CR) expires Friday.
Over the weekend, talks between a bipartisan group of House and Senate negotiators, largely made up of appropriators with experience on committees with oversight of Department of Homeland Security (DHS), had broken down over the number of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) beds in detention centers — which Democrats want to cap and reduce.
"For far too long, the Trump administration has been tearing communities apart with its cruel immigration policies," Rep. Lucille Roybal-Allard, the lead House Democratic negotiator, wrote in a statement. She argued, "A cap on ICE detention beds will force the Trump administration to prioritize deportation for criminals and people who pose real security threats, not law-abiding immigrants who are contributing to our country." A government data clearinghouse run by Syracuse University notes in an analysis of ICE data that most ICE detainees have no criminal conviction and almost 75 percent have no serious convictions.
But President Trump and his Republican allies in Congress have slammed Democrats for demanding a cap, accusing them of trying to hinder ICE's ability to detain violent criminals. "The Democrats do not want us to detain, or send back, criminal aliens! This is a brand new demand. Crazy!" the president wrote on Twitter Monday morning."
ABC didn't read their marching orders. They're touting klobuchar's moderate politics. Meanwhile she's telling anyone who will listen what a progressive she is.
Off to a very bad launch. Maybe she can tell us again about Gorebal Warming during a blizzard. With pilot bears in the background.
She is already making excuses.
Shutdown averted? After a late-night session between congressional negotiators, an "agreement in principle" was reached to fund border security and prevent another partial government shutdown. It’s not a done deal yet: The deal, which only allows for 55 new miles of a ‘border barrier,’ still has to be given the all-clear by President Trump. As NBC’s Frank Thorp told Lawrence O’Donnell: “We’re a long ways away from getting this signed into law.”
President Trump and Beto O’Rourke hosted dueling rallies in El Paso, Texas, on Monday night. President Trump, who learned of the potential partial funding deal shortly before taking the stage, told the crowd that “We probably have some good news." Trump added: “Just so you know, we are building the wall anyway." O’Rourke’s rally, on the other hand, celebrated El Paso's immigrant culture.
The investigation into a conspiracy between Donald Trump's campaign and the Russians might be alive and kicking. Prosecutors for the Special Counsel seem to have revealed a clue while discussing new charges against Paul Manafort in a closed-door hearing, revealing that the “heart” of the probe is still looking at a Manafort's lies and the central question of whether there was a deal between Russia and the Trump campaign.
In an interview with Rachel Maddow, Sen. Klobuchar addressed reports that she is an "exceedingly tough boss," saying that “I know I can be too tough sometimes and I can push too hard, that's obvious. But a lot of it is because I have high expectations for myself, I have high expectations for the people that work with me."
The issue in which no Socialist gets is "illegal aliens".
The law abiding immigrant is welcome.
Well if there is more than a dollar for border wall funding Nancy Pelosi loses.
But I think she has bigger problems now.
Americans view Mueller as more credible than Trump, but views of his probe are scattered

As the special counsel investigation seems to be nearing its final stage, Americans view Robert S. Mueller III as far more credible than President Trump, but the public has scattered and partisan perceptions of Mueller’s motives and what he has found so far, according to a new Washington Post-Schar School poll.
Fifty-six percent to 33 percent, more say they trust Mueller’s version of the facts than Trump’s. And by nearly as wide a margin, more believe Mueller is mainly interested in “finding out the truth” than trying to “hurt Trump politically.”
Nearly two years into his investigation, Mueller has charged 34 people and secured guilty pleas from some of Trump’s closest advisers, including his former campaign chairman, deputy campaign chairman, national security adviser and personal lawyer. The special counsel has alleged 25 Russians, including 12 military officers, conspired to hack Democrats’ emails and wage a social media influence campaign to sway the outcome of the 2016 election, and described in astonishing detail how they did so

"In a wide-ranging interview focusing mainly on his desire to overturn the British public’s vote for Brexit in 2016, the controversial 65-year-old told Sophy Ridge of Sky News: “There is, I’m afraid, there is a kind of nascent alliance between what I would call bits of the sort of Islamist type of politics and the left.”
“And you can see this not just here in the UK, you can see it across Europe — and yes, it gives rise to anti-Semitism. "
