Donald Trump attacked Amy Klobuchar on Sunday, in a tweet that appeared to demonstrate a lack of understanding about climate change.
The Democratic senator had announced that she was running for the presidency earlier that day, in a speech delivered as snow fell around her in Minneapolis.
“As your president, I will look you in the eye. I will tell you what I think. I will focus on getting things done. That’s what I’ve done my whole life,” she told a crowd of people gathered at a park along the Mississippi River.
The Minnesota senator added that on her first day as president she would have the US rejoin the Paris climate agreement, which Mr Trump withdrew the country from in 2017.
“Well, it happened again,” the president wrote on Twitter.
“Amy Klobuchar announced that she is running for President, talking proudly of fighting global warming while standing in a virtual blizzard of snow, ice and freezing temperatures.”

There is no way to make any definitive conclusions about recorded temperature because temperature recording was not done in a consistent scientific way in the last 160 years.
In this case temperature recording stations set up next to air conditioning equipment , or stations that record in hot ashfault and concrete urban sites and the removal of recording station from cooler high altitude locations all serve the skew the temperatures higher.

Most of the stations have changed from using liquid in glass thermometers (LiG) in Stevenson screens to electronic Minimum Maximum Temperature Systems (MMTS) or Automated Surface Observing Systems (ASOS). Observation times have shifted from afternoon to morning at most stations since 1960, as part of an effort by the National Weather Service to improve precipitation measurements.
All of these changes introduce (non-random) systemic biases into the network. For example, MMTS sensors tend to read maximum daily temperatures about 0.5 C colder than LiG thermometers at the same location. There is a very obvious cooling bias in the record associated with the conversion of most co-op stations from LiG to MMTS in the 1980s, and even folks deeply skeptical of the temperature network like Anthony Watts and his coauthors add an explicit correction for this in their paper.

Look, Anthony, it’s just as valuable in science to show what doesn’t have an effect as does an effect. In that you’ve done something very valuable. Enjoy it! But I think Pielke’s words are pretty clear here. Station siting quality has no effect on mean trends. Same thing that Muller said. Same thing every other study has said.
