Democratic Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar recommended Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison investigate USA Powerlifting for barring biological males from women’s events, according to a Jan. 31 letter she sent USA Powerlifting.
Omar called it a “myth” that men who identify as transgender women have a “direct competitive advantage” and copied Ellison on the letter, “with a recommendation that he investigate this discriminatory behavior.”
Omar sent her letter on behalf of JayCee Cooper, a biological male who identifies as a transgender woman, and whom Omar identified as one of her constituents.
Sure, the idea that two distinct biological sexes with different chromosomes and completely different hormones running through their body might have different levels of athleticism is apparently now considered a "myth".
I guess (for instance) it's just a coincidence that the mens world record mile is 3 minutes and 43 seconds, while the woman's mile is almost a half minute slower at 4 minutes and 12 seconds.
Oh in the same "heavyweight division" - the men's world record for the Clean and Jerk is 1,043 pounds. The women's world record for the same event is 734 pounds. That seems to be something a bit more than a "myth".
