Patriots best ever

My take on the game is obviously a minority position. It seems like in 2019 everyone is upset about something pretty much all of the time. Everything is offensive, a trigger, or otherwise some sort of excuse to get pissy on everything.

Dynasty!

But I actually appreciated the fact that the game was close (albeit low scoring). I would much rather see a 3-3 game going into the fourth quarter, than a 33-13 blowout that we have seen in so many previous super bowls. More points doesn't always make a better game.

The fact that it came down to who was going to get it done in the fourth quarter is sort of what could (and should) make this one of those classics. Of course, too many people are now "bored" because there wasn't enough end-zone celebrations. Maybe it's the hockey fan in me that realized that sometimes the 1-0 or 2-1 games are the most exciting and best played.

As for the half-time show.... it was predefined by most people how they were going to see the show. Either you like Adam Levine and Maroon 5 or you don't. Either you saw it as just another show, or some sort of horrible sell out because you wanted them to protest the fact that the NFL has moved past the kneeling and got back to playing football.

But as a musician myself, I can assure you that performing those songs (especially the vocals with all of the falsetto and key changes) is not an easy task, and they did a good job. Like it or not, but Adam Levine is a musical icon, and generally for good reason. So he dances like a white guy, and he's a bit too proud of his 39 year old physique for some people's taste, but that doesn't take away from the rest of it. He's a hell of a singer and musician. I wasn't sure that the two guest rappers added a lot, unless you want to suggest that having lyrics bleeped out because of profanity is an addition. I was also a bit worried that someone in the third quarter would trip and fall over tire marks in the field!

The commercials were fairly forgettable. In fact, I am not even sure I had a "favorite" commercial. Maybe "the dude" coming into the bar and not ordering a white russian headed up the group for me, but otherwise not much else stood out. I think it's hard to be too funny when you are always worried someone will be offended.

Rat

You are seriously joking to say you never heard of Adam Levine and Maroon 5?

They have been around since before my 16 year old was even born!

Gladys Knight was great.

I even liked the Chloe Halle God Bless America deal.

I must have been in a more forgiving mood than most people who watched the Superbowl.

never heard of levine. i might have heard maroon 5 mentioned once but never gave them a second thought.

i shit you not.

and whenever i hear about a band performing the SB halftime show i figure they're just a bunch of lip-synching assholes anyway.

iow, i don't consider it to be an honor, or awarded to anyone with real talent.

my musical tastes run to classic rock & country. even some of the new country music these days sounds like shitty cowboy hip hop to me.

get joe bonamassa to do the halftime show. then i'll actually watch it all.

As dull cash maroon5 was, the two rappers still managed to bring the show down.

And in my mind, the real MVP was once again, bill belichick.

interesting.

i'm old enough to remember when we were supposed to believe all the women all the time.

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax issued a statement early Monday after an online article hinted at sexual assault allegations against him in 2004.

The site “Big League Politics” shared a private post from a woman who said an office holder who assaulted her at the the Democratic National Convention was about to get “a very big promotion.” She says her attacker won a statewide office in 2017.

On Monday morning, Fairfax released a tweet that said “the person reported to be making this false allegation first approached the Washington Post ... after being presented with facts consistent with the Lt. Governor’s denial of the allegation, the absence of any evidence corroborating the allegation, and significant red flags and inconsistencies with the allegation, the Post made the considered decision to not publish the story.”

Fairfax says he will take legal action at anyone “attempting to spread this defamatory and false allegation.”

I guess since Maroon 5 is limited to being Maroon 5 - I am not sure what people were expecting. Was Levine supposed to transform into Prince or Paul McCartney for 15 minutes?

Compared and contrasted to the Imagine Dragon's performance during the National Championship halftime show, Levine and Maroon 5 were miles ahead of the game.

NFL football fans are not generally the type who would want to see a group of hip-hop artists, and you are probably not going to see a pure country deal going on. What this does (more than anything else) is shine a spotlight on the fact that we really do not have much for pure musical superstars right now.

The artists who were actually huge when they played the Super Bowl halftime shows are now mostly dead or over the hill (Prince, Michael Jackson, U2, Paul McCartney, Aerosmith, etc....)

i'm sure that's part of it.

and it could just be that we've gone so fucking crazy over the event and work so hard to out do last year we're probably getting to a point where the actual game becomes an afterthought.

i'm old enough to have been alive for every super bowl, but the first one i really remember was VII. back then it was about the game. it was played during the day, and the players were the stars.

there actually was a halftime show, but i had to look it up:

The halftime show, featuring Woody Herman and the Michigan Marching Band along with The Citrus College Singers and Andy Williams, was titled "Happiness Is".
