(These new revelations raise fresh concerns that, with the approval of the FBI, foreign governments were meddling in the 2016 election)
The recently released transcript of George Papadopoulos’s congressional testimony reveals a significant fact: Papadopoulos’s introduction to Joseph Mifsud—the source of the “Russia has Hillary’s emails” tip that purportedly prompted the FBI to launch an investigation into the Trump campaign—was arranged mere days after Papadopoulos announced he was joining the Trump campaign.
Saturday evening, Papadopoulos rocked Twitter with claims that “a woman in London, who was the FBI’s legal attaché in the U.K.” encouraged him “to meet Joseph Mifsud in Rome in March 2016.” These new revelations raise fresh concerns that, with the approval of the FBI, foreign governments were meddling in the 2016 election.
So the basic concept is that Papadopoulos (and others) believe that this FBI legal attaché was setting him up. Papadopoulos was at the time pending his acceptance as part of the Trump campaign. One assumes that some for of background check is done prior, that certain people were aware of his pending status, and that people with that knowledge had decided to target Papadopoulos.
Literally nothing that Papadopoulos was told by pretty much anyone was factual. What he was being told was exactly the sort of information that a young newbie might believe will help his cause within a campaign. But it was fake.
So, there is little question that one way or the other, "someone" targeted the Trump policy advisor. Is it possible that his communications with the FBI attaché was a coincidence? Sure. Is it possible that he was being set up by a foreign power, rather than the "deep state". Of course.
But either way, it was not a legitimate attempt by anyone with any real information to garner some actual clandestine collusion with the Russian Government. The premise we were led to believe is not only logically, but apparently factually incorrect.
It seems like something that should be investigated, huh?

Ms. Newbold told the committee’s staff members that the clearance applications had been denied for a variety of reasons, including “foreign influence, conflicts of interest, concerning personal conduct, financial problems, drug use, and criminal conduct,” the memo said. The denials by the career employees were overturned, she said, by more-senior officials who did not follow the procedures designed to mitigate security risks.
Ms. Newbold, who has worked in the White House for 18 years under both Republican and Democratic administrations, said she chose to speak to the Oversight Committee after attempts to raise concerns with her superiors and the White House counsel went nowhere, according to the committee staff’s account.
“I feel that right now this is my last hope to really bring the integrity back into our office,” she said, according to a summary of her March 23 interview with the committee’s staff distributed on Monday.
Integrity is not in the vocabulary of the President.

She had to have been part of the conspiracy to reverse the election of Donald Trump.
In your sick mind.
“I would not be doing a service to myself, my country, or my children if I sat back knowing that the issues that we have could impact national security,” Newbold added in her interview with committee staffers for the Republican and Democratic sides of the committee.
The committee’s investigation into the White House security clearance process intensified earlier this year after it was reported that President Donald Trump ordered his then-chief of staff to grant a top-secret security clearance to Jared Kushner, the president’s senior adviser and son-in-law, a directive that overruled intelligence officials.
We know why General Kelly left the White House as chief of staff for the most dangerous President since God knows who.

The House Judiciary Committee plans to vote Wednesday to authorize subpoenas to obtain the full report of special counsel Robert S. Mueller III, escalating a feud with the Justice Department over a lengthy document detailing findings about Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election.
Rep. Jerrold Nadler (D-N.Y.), chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, announced plans Monday for the panel’s vote, which would take place a day after a deadline the committee set for Attorney General William P. Barr to share the report.
Barr pledged last week to release a redacted version by mid-April, well after Nadler’s deadline. Nadler’s committee is seeking to obtain the “full and complete report,” which spans nearly 400 pages, as well as underlying evidence.
They have the right to see the entire report. They have to work with the DOJ team to make sure that no nation Security information is made public.

ATLANTA, GA—Fooling thousands of readers in a prank that the cable news organization said was "just for fun," CNN published a real news story for April Fools' Day this year.
The story simply contained a list of facts, with no embellishment, editorializing, or invented details. The story also didn't cite shaky "anonymous sources" and only quoted firsthand witnesses to the event. It was completely factual without any errors whatsoever.
Baffled CNN fans immediately knew something was up.
"I was reading this story, and I was like, 'Wait, what is this?'" said one man in New York who relies on CNN for his fake news every morning. "They really got me good. Then I looked up at the calendar and I realized I'd been duped. A classic gag!"
"Those little rascals!" he added, shaking his head and laughing goodnaturedly. "As long as they return to their regularly scheduled fake news tomorrow, we're good. We're good."

Thursday on CNN's "Cuomo Primetime," Rep. Sean Duffy, a Republican member of the House Intelligence Committee, debated host Chris Cuomo about the network's coverage of the Mueller investigation.
"You're the reporters," Duffy told Cuomo. "And as reporters, you have a job to make sure you're putting out the right facts. For two years you're putting out the wrong facts."
"What wrong facts did we put out?" the CNN host asked.
"That there was Russia collusion," Duffy said.
CHRIS CUOMO: It's about what did the President know so at least you can have some accountability.
REP. SEAN DUFFY: What I think you want to know is who duped us, because I mean, listen, all the networks and then the people who--
CUOMO: I want to know that too. But you guys have to figure that out.
DUFFY: No. But you should know that. You've been talking about this for over two years. You should say, "Who actually set this up?"
CUOMO: I know you guys are supposed to figure that out.
DUFFY: Well, Mueller did. And said, I know it wasn't Donald Trump.
CUOMO: No. But that was an oversight issue is what do we do to make ourselves safer. Nunes and your boys didn't want to do anything about it.
DUFFY: What you guys did is you reported on it.
And you took all these salacious reports of the scandal, and for two years. And I think, you got to analyze how we get our information, because for two years, every single hour of every day, we talked about it.
And I think and it's - I don't want to sit and cast blame on you. I think you've been fair. But I look at the American people, and I go, "Do I trust the media? Do I trust the Democrats who have been peddling this story that's absolutely false?"
CUOMO: Well, part of the reason you're asking yourself that Sean is because for the first time in our history, we have a President who tells everybody that the media is their enemy, and that the institutions of our democracy can't be trusted. Not the best suggestion.
DUFFY: But if the media was doing its job, they'd be far more skeptical of some of the details that they got.

I have to wonder if they will go after the Grand Jury testimony. If I remember correctly, they got that out in Watergate.
You won't like what we will see
Actually Roger, there was no sort of special counsel for Watergate. It took a judge to get Nixon to hand over the tapes he had recorded.
As far as I know there was no Grand Jury testimony every released as Nixon resigned and others were prosecuted.
But you see, that's how these things go. When Law Enforcement investigates criminal activity, they generally charge those who they feel can be prosecuted for criminal actions, and not charge others.
Law Enforcement does not provide their investigation information to anyone for people who have not been charged with crimes. There is no arm or our law enforcement that caters to digging up dirt (even on political people).
The law is clear. Special Counsel provides a confidential report and Special Counsel (by law) is required to keep his/her materials confidential.
I know it's sort of hard for you to accept that this point, but William Barr gets to determine what is released. To a large degree, Congress asking Mueller to testify is akin to asking Mueller to either show up and answer no questions, or break the law.
A subpoena is only as good as it was when Congress subpoenaed Eric Holder or Lois Lerner. Barr can ignore any subpoena that does not abide by the law, and Congress can do little more than hold him in contempt (just as Congress held Holder and Lerner in contempt).
I don't recall you being upset about either one of those Administration officials ignoring subpoenas from congress?
Democrats can go to court, but something like this will end up in the USSC and they (as they generally do) will side with the rule of law and the constitutional principles set forth.
If Congress wanted a report, then Congress should have written a law that required Special Counsel to provide them with a Report. This law doesn't.
They will get a redacted version of the Report from Barr, they will be disappointed, kick and scream, and in the end... are they willing to go fight a battle in court for the rest of the crumbs?
Yeah, it feels like it was just like last week when cutting funding for Special Olympics was a big deal.
i think it rose to the level of "bombshell."
was it a bombshell?
it sure felt like a bombshell.
you can never have too many bombshells, ya know.
Barr can ignore any subpoena that does not abide by the law...
and this is the part that the alky, nadler, and all the rest of the congressional assholes just don't get -
barr would be breaking the law if he released the report in its entirety. they can deliver subpoenas by the truckload and that changes nothing.
goddamn. why do democrats always elect such dumb fucks to congress?
Funny how after all these years of biden's touchy feely style, only now is it a problem in the dem party. Clearly he's not socialist enough for the party.
Roger, parroted the talking point. And got punk by the Facts.
why do democrats always elect such dumb fucks to congress?
Nadler is not dumb.
He knows better. But he also knows that the people who vote for him do not know better. The stronger he acts, the more he demands, the more they will believe that he is right.
What is the worst thing that will happen? They take it to court, lose in the USSC and everyone on the left blames the "conservative court" and just further justifies to their followers their idea about "court packing".
In a rational Congress where people are interested in weighing the law with the issue of transparency...
Everyone would be happy as pigs in slop that Barr, Rosenstein, and Mueller are working together to redact information that should be redacted, and then allow the report to be released (even though the law doesn't require it to be).
This should be a very simple concept of people agreeing on something logical, practical, and decent.

Trump is now saying we can't release it because there's something in the the report that's not good
Trump is just scared to release the full contents of the Mueller report to the American people because it contains lots of shades of gray about his reckless disregard for Russian hacking to help his own election and the varying degrees of obstruction of justice we saw publicly.
No matter what information is given to the crazed Democrats from the No Collusion Mueller Report, it will never be good enough. Behind closed doors the Dems are laughing!
You are lying.
Actually Roger, there was no sort of special counsel for Watergate. It took a judge to get Nixon to hand over the tapes he had recorded.
True but he did testify to a grand Jury. It's available.
Trump is scared to death.
Famed Watergate journalist Bob Woodward warned President Trump on Monday's edition of "Morning Joe" that the Mueller report is a scandal that is "not going to go away."
BOB WOODWARD: Well, first of all, Barr did say that the Mueller report shows it did not conclude that there was a crime on President Trump's part. That's important. But of course, as you keep pointing out and I think this is right, this is an issue that's not going to go away. Barr himself has said it's not over, that he's going to release more information. So there's so much that the idea that Trump is out of the woods on this is just not true.
But you need to also emphasize very strongly that Mueller is saying he did not find a crime. He also said he did not exonerate Trump. There is going to be great interest in the details that are released and even greater interest in the details that are not released because people are going to try to chase them down.
Mueller was working off stage for two years. There are 400 pages, there are indices, there are annexes and so forth. And then very, very important, the cases that have been handed off to the U.S. Attorney in New York, that is -- that's going to be working on its own. And, yes, Barr as attorney general can supervise that, but that is an operation up in New York that is notoriously independent.

impeachment.
that's the only reason the democrats want the report. it's a launch pad for impeachment. there's nothing in the report that can legally criminally harm trump, but since impeachment is a political and not criminal process, and high crimes and misdemeanors are in the eye of the beholder, fat jerry will bend to the wishes of the wild-eyed fucktard caucus and submit to impeachment.

Robert Mueller was a God-like figure to the Democrats, until he ruled No Collusion in the long awaited $30,000,000 Mueller Report. Now the Dems don’t even acknowledge his name, have become totally unhinged, and would like to go through the whole process again. It won’t happen!
True.
Today in the New York Times, House Judiciary Chairman Jerrold Nadler writes an op-ed demanding the full release of the entire Mueller report by tomorrow. He never quite gets around to mentioning what’s holding up the release of the Mueller report, which is the need to remove information related to grand jury deliberations or other ongoing investigations that have been referred to other offices.
As noted in one of last week’s Morning Jolts, there are good reasons why prosecutors generally don’t release grand jury information. In his letter to Congress, Attorney General William Barr specifically cited Federal Rule of Criminal Procedure 6(e), which provides that government attorneys and the jurors themselves, among others, “must not disclose a matter occurring before the grand jury.” Barr didn’t make this rule up, it’s not obscure or optional, and Nadler knows darn well about its importance. Barr stated in a letter to Nadler and the judiciary committee that the special counsel’s office is assisting in identifying portions that are grand-jury testimony or relate to ongoing investigations or prosecutions.
But because the Democrats prefer a narrative of a sinister cover-up, Nadler just averts his eyes and pretends the rules on grand jury testimony don’t exist.
Late last week we heard that Mueller’s report is more than 300 pages. Barr thinks he’ll have the redactions finished by the middle of this month. Maybe that strikes you as too much time, or too little time, or maybe it seems just right. But if Barr had done as Nadler seems to want, and skipped the redaction process entirely, he would be violating federal law and perhaps lousing up other investigations and prosecutions of other federal law enforcement offices. (No doubt some House Democrats would probably want Barr removed from office for recklessly releasing grand-jury information.) The guys who claim to be standing for the rule of law are demanding that the law be violated.
Separately, Nadler asks, “[Barr] declined to charge the president with obstruction in part because there was no underlying crime to obstruct. Did he discuss that conclusion with Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein — who, while a federal prosecutor, routinely charged individuals with obstruction without charging the underlying crime?”
Right in Barr’s letter, it says:
"After reviewing the Special Counsel’s final report on these issues; consulting with Department officials, including the Office of Legal Counsel; and applying the principles of federal prosecution that guide our charging decisions, Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein and I have concluded that the evidence developed during the Special Counsel’s investigation is not sufficient to establish that the President committed an obstruction-of-justice offense."
Nadler closes his op-ed with a perfectly cynical statement that “if President Trump’s behavior wasn’t criminal, then perhaps it should have been.” Nadler is demanding the immediate release of the report . . . and he’s already decided what he concludes from its findings.

With Tax Day approaching and a potentially Swiss-cheesed Mueller report due out soon, a friendly reminder: Yes, we still need to see President Trump’s tax returns.
Because we still need to know whether Trump has been running the executive branch in America’s interest or his own.
Jimmy Carter famously placed his peanut farm in a blind trust during his presidency to avoid any conflicts of interest. Trump, by contrast, has a sprawling, multibillion-dollar, multinational firm from which he has not divested, and says his sons are running the day-to-day operations. Not only has he defied norms about divestment, he has also defied norms about disclosure — including by refusing to release his tax returns despite a four-decades-long expectation for presidents to do so.
As a result, we know precious little about Trump’s financial relationships, including his business partners, sources of income, or who holds callable loans. What Trump does tell us about his company — including whether it was still negotiating Trump Tower Moscow late into the 2016 presidential campaign — often turns out to be false.
Friendly reminder: We still haven’t seen Trump’s tax returns
