Talking Points Memo

The Bigs Can’t Handle Bill Barr’s Cons
They simply can’t grasp their way toward the obvious explanation. He’s a bad actor, using his office for the purpose of defending the President as opposed to enforcing the law. He’s a crook. But he’s a smart one. And at least as far as we know so far he’s using his legitimate powers in creative ways to take corrupt actions.

So here we are again. The left pushing the narrative that criminal actions should no longer be defined by whether or not you actually commit an action described as a crime, but rather they should be defined by whether or not we approve of how legitimate legal actions are carried out. Ironically the criticism of William Barr is actually that he is following the law, when liberals believe that Barr should break it to appease their whims.

Make no mistake, this is what Banana Republicans are founded on. If you allow subjectively to determine what actions are criminal and what actions are not criminal, then the shifting of power leads to a shifting of the law to fit the agenda of those gaining the power.

What has kept our country, our leaders, and law enforcement honest is that we have clearly a defined criminal code and we only make exceptions to those codes in rare instances, and generally only in favor of the accused. It's the principle of never wanting to punish an innocent person that drives the idea of innocent until proven guilty, as well as driving four of the ten amendments in the bill of rights. Above all else, we fear the idea of oppressive law enforcement.

The idea that we should allow complete subjectivity to decide whether or not otherwise completely legal actions should be considered "criminal" (or completely illegal actions excused away) flies in the face of our basic principles. But that is basically what the left has reduced themselves to. They cannot prove that any "real" criminal actions have been committed by Trump and his associates, so they simply make things up as they go. Group think and an echo chamber of people using terms like crooks, treason, and criminal feeds the negative wolf.

It's all part of the growing dishonestly of the left, as well as their irrational need to define the President (and anyone associated with him) in the worst terms possible. If that means tossing aside the very legal principles that have been in play for over two centuries, to demand people are crooks because they don't like them, then so be it.

You see... they really, really, really hate Donald Trump that much.

This has been posted already, but worthy of being posted over, and over again.

"“He’s being as forthcoming as he can, and so this notion that he’s trying to mislead people, I think is just completely bizarre,” Mr. Rosenstein told the Wall Street Journal.

“It would be one thing if you put out a letter and said, ‘I’m not going to give you the report,’” Rosenstein said. “What he said is, ‘Look, it’s going to take a while to process the report. In the meantime, people really want to know what’s in it. I’m going to give you the top-line conclusions.’ That’s all he was trying to do.”

Spying

Barr is not simply using his job to defend the President. He’s repeatedly playing word games like this. He issues a supererogatory exoneration of President Trump and then claims he had never meant to do that. He’d like to release the whole Mueller Report. But the rules just make it really hard for him to do that. He very clearly used the word “spying” and then said he needed to make sure it hadn’t happened. That was to give the President his talking point. Then he or his staff tell the Times that he didn’t mean to imply anything by that. He just meant “spying” as a synonym for surveillance, which of course judges authorize law enforcement to conduct routinely. This is obviously not true. Yet the Times passes it on as though it were a good faith explanation of what Barr was thinking.

You can't grasp the truth is that he is covering up a corrupt and incompetent person.we unfortunately elected him to be the President.

Barr will go down in history as the most corrupt Attorney General in history.

There was spying, or surveillance if that word is what you want used. It is indisputable. It occurred with the FISA warrant and indications are it actually began earlier.

Okay Rog...

Explain this to me.

Why would Rosenstein (who supervised the investigation, obviously has read the report, and is assisting with the process of redactions)...

Call the Democrat's claims to be "bizarre" and tell everyone who will listen that Barr's interpretation of the Mueller's findings are not misleading in any way??

Seems to me that you are just setting yourself up for another fall by making a "FAKE" assumption WITH NO EVIDENCE that the Report will be different from what Barr has said it was.

Unless both Barr and Rosenstein are completely lying (and why would they) - the Report will confirm exactly what Barr said it did.

There will be no finding of coordination or conspiracy between Trump campaign members and any of the Russian agents who meddled in our election.

There will be two camps on "obstruction" - including those who feel that law needs to be followed, and those who would like the law CHANGED for purposes of declaring the President guilty of something.

Good article (this is not it's main point) but this is germane:

FBI Man's Testimony Points to Wrongdoing Well Beyond Spying

Shen was happy with the answer, and so she asked Priestap to confirm it: “So in your experience the FBI doesn't use the term ‘spy’ in any of its investigative techniques?” Priestap assured her the word is never spoken by law-enforcement professionals – except, he said (wandering dangerously off-script), when referring to “foreign spies.”

“But in terms of one of its own techniques,” Shen said, determined to get Priestap back on track, “the FBI does not refer to one of its own techniques as spying?”

“That is correct, yes.”

“With that definition in mind, would the FBI internally ever describe themselves as spying on American citizens?”

“No.”

So there we have it with all the decisive logic of a Socratic dialogue: The FBI could not possibly have spied on the Trump campaign because bureau lingo includes neither the noun “spy” nor the verb “to spy.” Whatever informants may have been employed, whatever tools of surveillance may have been utilized, the FBI did not spy on the Trump campaign – didn’t spy by definition, as the bureau doesn’t use the term (except, of course, to describe the very same activities when undertaken by foreigners).

A top House investigative committee plans to subpoena President Trump’s accounting firm, Mazars USA, for Trump’s financial statements on Monday, according to a letter to lawmakers obtained by The Washington Post.

House Oversight and Reform Committee Chairman Elijah E. Cummings on Friday notified panel members of his intention to subpoena the company after it refused to hand over Trump’s financial documents, citing laws and rules that require compulsory measures from the panel.

Cummings (D-Md.) had told reporters earlier this month that the company requested what he called a “friendly subpoena,” before they would comply with the request.
