The credibility problem

CNN RATINGS CONTINUE TO PLUMMET TO ALL-YEAR LOW

CNN had its lowest primetime weekly ratings overall and in the key age demographic last week, according to Nielsen Media Research. From April 8-12, the network only averaged an audience of 690,000 people and 180,000 in the key 25-54 age demographic. Their coverage last week included three presidential town halls with New York Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, Washington Gov. Jay Inslee and Former Housing and Urban Development Secretary Julián Castro.

The question one might ask, is where would the CNN ratings be if not for their monopoly on public television sets (like the ones at Airports). Seems like almost nobody is tuning into CNN on purpose. To put this all in perspective, FOX news is averaging almost 2.5 million viewers, which is 3.5 times more viewers than CNN is getting.

This, of course, is the result of CNN (and MSNBC) peddling Russian collusion over the past two years. The double whammy is that this particular news cycle has been replaced, while CNN has taken a big hit with credibility. Both CNN and MSNBC might be on the verge of another big hit, if the release of the Muller report tomorrow does not live up to the cover-up "conspiracy" hype that has been replacing the previous collusion "conspiracy" hype. 

Either way, once that report has been released, and people start to get bored with a fight over redactions (which won't take long) - CNN (and MSNBC) will need to move on to bigger and better things. Being a straight ahead cable news network is likely not an option anymore. But there is little interest with the General public for a second "liberal" cable news channel.
