Despite what party leaders say, ordinary people care about Trump’s lawbreaking.
Until quite recently, Democratic House leaders justified their refusal to begin an inquiry into impeaching Donald Trump by saying that it wasn’t something their rank-and-file voters cared about. “I can tell you I never hear somebody bring up the Mueller report,” Representative Cheri Bustos, chairwoman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, said in Chicago last month.
After the Memorial Day recess, that argument is no longer tenable. Across the country, Democratic voters have begun demanding that their representatives take a position on impeachment. “At virtually every town hall, round table, or even, today, a kaffeeklatsch at a senior center, people want to know what we are going to do about this guy,” Mary Gay Scanlon, Democrat of Pennsylvania, told me. Scanlon is vice chairwoman of the Judiciary Committee, which would oversee an impeachment inquiry, and two weeks ago she came out in favor of starting the process. So I guess according to writers at the NY Times, anyone who is either Republican, Conservative, Independent, or neutral is not an "ordinary" person? Because only as sliver of Republicans want to see impeachment, and Independents are also against it by approximately two to one.
The issue here seems to be that the elected Democrats are "actually" for once seeing a bigger picture that the liberal media and rank and file crazies do not see. That, of course, is that Democrats will not win in 2020 by pissing off Independents and otherwise disgruntled Republicans.
Nothing will unite Conservatives and Republicans more than a good partisan impeachment fight over a fake investigation by partisan liberal prosecutors who after 22 months and $35 million found what the little boy shot at and missed. I think Pelosi actually gets that.
I don't believe that others (such as the 2020 candidates) really seem to care, because they are in their "play to the base" portion of their campaign. Once the Democrats decide on a candidate, the good old "drift back towards the center" will be on full display. But for now, they need the support of the crazies.
The media is attempting to sell the illusion that impeachment hearing would be more Richard Nixon than Bill Clinton. The argument was that Nixon was not seen as a "crook" until Congress started hearing, and the shit hit the fan. Nixon, of course was actually guilty of the underlying crimes in the Watergate affair, as well as obvious obstructive behavior of destruction of evidence, witness tampering, and witness intimidation.
The other big difference between Nixon and Trump is that Nixon did not live through three years of Watergate investigation before impeachment was brought up. The public knowledge, investigations, and investigations happened nearly simultaneously. It wasn't the idea of "impeachment hearings" that started his downfall, it was the overwhelming facts brought forward that Nixon was a criminal.
It's hard to imagine that anyone actually believes that after three years of investigating all of this, that one more investigation will be the straw that breaks the camel's back. Especially in light of polling that suggests a majority (and in some polls a wide majority) of voters who are ready to move on. And why wouldn't they, after three years and coming up blank? Sometimes you have to listen to the American electorate as a whole, rather than your own rank and file crazies.
The more obvious reason why Democrats may decide to go down the path of impeachment is to create some sort of political competition for what is surely to be worthy of public interest in the investigations into the investigators. Perhaps they believe that the best defense will be more offense. Perhaps either way they look at it, the options are bad. Either they piss off a great deal of the Independents that they need, or they allow bad press against former Obama officials to dominate the news over the next few months.

Your confusion continues.
The house is going to conduct investigations into the actions of the President and his staff and family members who are part of his administration.
They are not prohibited by a policy to not indict the sitting President. The Constitution grants them the power to indict the President for high crimes and misdemeanors.
They don't have any restrictions on the scope of the investigation.
Richard Nixon had an approval rating in the range of 70%. He won the largest electoral college victory in history, taking 49 states. Trump has been below 50% from day one.
The house Judiciary committee is quite possibly going to declare the Attorney General in contempt. We actually could see the Searget at Arms arrest and contain the Attorney General until he complies with the subpoena.
The investigation into the actions of Donald Trump, is going to drive the crazies into a frenzy. Your post is a prime example of how the President and his allies will behave.
Pelosi is playing Trump like a violin. And you are in the chorus. The investigation and hearings will educate the public into the actions by the President.
I'm not going to make any projections. As Trump said many times before, "We shall see".
Last time I check with the Constitution, Congress didn't have the power to indict a ham sandwich.
Roger,
What exactly are you talking about?
My post was in regards to increasing calls from the Liberal Media to have the House start Impeachment Hearings. In fact, my post is VERY SPECIFIC to impeachment hearings, as is the story from the Times I am referencing.
And no, Congress cannot "indict" anyone. Only the DOJ can "indict" someone at a Federal level.
Look, we get that Congress is OBSESSED with the bad orange man and will continue to investigate him further and further, till they are eventually investigating whether or not he actually was sleeping during nap time in Kindergarten or faking it. Their OBSESSION is clear and well defined.
roger has slipped from plain cray cray to delusional

it's gotten to the point where the alky is floundering so badly and so pathetically that you almost have to take pity on him.
almost.
this is a psychological projection gem:

on the contrary, oh ye of second hand liver -
what congress is doing is flying directly into the face of popular opinion. outside of ralph maddow and the rest of the fucking whack-a-doos you parrot, no one is interested in continuing an investigation into trump. not for impeachment. not for ANY reason.
but i say go for it, alky. trump's re-election prospects increase virtually every day.
so impeach the motherfucker and seal the deal.
And no, Congress cannot "indict" anyone. Only the DOJ can "indict" someone at a Federal level.

Oh no Joe White, you did not March.
"When I marched in the civil rights movement, I did not march with a 12-point program,” Mr. Biden thundered, testing his presidential message in February 1987 before a New Hampshire audience. “I marched with tens of thousands of others to change attitudes. And we changed attitudes.”
More than once, advisers had gently reminded Mr. Biden of the problem with this formulation: He had not actually marched during the civil rights movement. And more than once, Mr. Biden assured them he understood — and kept telling the story anyway."

Corey Booker , god how i love Socialist Democrats .
"Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ) is introducing a bill aimed at closing that gap. His idea is to give lower-income kids a sizable nest egg (nearly $50,000 in some cases) that they could use for wealth-building purchases, like a down payment on a house or college tuition.
These “opportunity accounts” would, theoretically, make sure all children have significant assets when they enter adulthood, rather than just those who grow up in wealthier homes."
“It would be a dramatic change in our country to have low-income people break out of generational poverty,” Booker said in an interview with Vox. “We could rapidly bring security into those families’ lives, and that is really exciting to me.”
Booker continued.
"
His American Opportunity Accounts Act would give each child born in the United States a savings account with $1,000. Each year, until the child turns 18, the government would deposit as much as $2,000 into that account. The size of the annual payments would depend on the child’s family income, with lower-income families receiving larger checks."

Well I guess that the Republicans are joining the crazies.
Are Republican senators preparing to turn on President Donald Trump's tariffs?
More than half a dozen GOP members raised concerns or asked questions at a Tuesday policy lunch attended by Republican senators and Trump administration lawyers, according to multiple sources, as well as a senator who attended.
President Trump has vowed to apply tariffs on all Mexican goods next week and increase the rate to 25 percent in coming months if Mexico does not substantially halt illegal immigration across the U.S.-Mexican border.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell acknowledged his party's opposition to Trump's plan. "There is not much support in my conference for tariffs, that's for sure," he said.

You may actually see the Sargent at arms refuse to execute an unlawful contempt citation.
And may I remind you that Holder received a contempt citation. Nothing happened to him.
