Mueller Testimony didn't help impeachment cause

So to be clear, the movement was largely partisan and likely reflected a solidification of their viewpoint rather than a change in their viewpoint:

The public hearings had opposing impacts based on partisanship: among Democrats, 48% said they are more likely to support the process of impeachment that could ultimately lead to Trump’s removal from office, 8% said they are less likely to support impeachment and 44% said they feel the same as they did prior to Mueller’s testimony.
Whereas for Republicans, only 3% said they were more likely to support impeachment, 42% said they were less likely, and 54% were unchanged. Independents were split, with 26% saying they are more likely to support impeachment and 29% saying less likely. 45% of Independents said they feel the same as they did prior to Mueller’s testimony.

The Democrats had pinned their impeachment hopes on the Mueller testimony. Not only would they need to "move the needle" but it would have required a somewhat significant move. At the end of the nearly three quarters of the public was unimpressed by the Mueller testimony, with slightly more than a quarter of Americans so unimpressed that they lost interest.

Moreover, it's clear even without the crosstabs, that this poll sample included more Democrats than Republicans and Independents which bumped up the top line on those who are "more likely".  With just a bit of quick math we can see that nearly two thirds of those who are "more likely to support" impeachment came from the Democratic sample.

A majority of self-described Independents -- 60% -- described the testimony as a waste of time and taxpayer money or questioned Mueller’s fitness. About one in five -- 19% -- of Independents mentioned that the testimony proved or confirmed Trump’s guilt. The remaining 20% of Independents had more mixed assessments.

Look for the idea of impeachment to slowly ride away into the sunset, but not without many kicking and screaming along the way. If you believed that Nancy Pelosi and others within the Democratic leadership was going to see the light after the Mueller testimony, I suspect you've been deeply disappointed (which is a feeling that anti-Trumpers have been feeling quite a bit since 2016).

i'm hoping that the democrats keep the impeachment nonsense front and center until the 2020 election. trump probably won't need the help to get re-elected, but it certainly can't hurt.

There’s a 3 month wait to see a psychiatrist at Kaiser in So Cal, the largest provider of healthcare in this area. Our Governor is adding hundreds of thousands more (illegal immigrants) to an already over burdened system. It’s criminal how badly the left is destroying #California

I can see why some posters here are not getting the help they need. And with California already having an acute homeless problem, a huge housing shortage, illegal migrants flooding in, a sanctuary state, free illegal health insurance etc...……………………….What could go wrong ?

GOP Insiders Fear Kamala Harris Is the Next Obama

David Drucker: “About the time Kamala Harris finished slicing and dicing Joe Biden, like Ed Valenti demonstrating a Ginsu knife, my cell phone started pinging with Republican operatives saying, in effect, ‘I told you so.'”

“For months I’ve been in contact with a group of senior Republican strategists keeping tabs on Donald Trump and the party’s view of the unfolding Democratic presidential primary. Since the beginning of the campaign, these people have been worried that Biden constituted the biggest political threat to Trump’s reelection. Early public opinion polls certainly lend credibility to their concerns. But a smaller, though equally distinguished group of Republican operatives in my Rolodex, a sort of GOP cult of Kamala, had been insisting for weeks that Harris was being radically underestimated. With her surgical vivisection of Biden in the first debate, it seemed their fears had been realized. Now, as Democrats prepare for a second round of debates next week, these strategists are raising the alarm.”

Kushner’s Baltimore Apartments Infested with Mice

“In a now-viral tweetstorm on Saturday, President Trump characterized Rep. Elijah Cummings’s Baltimore-based congressional district as a ‘rodent infested mess’ where ‘no human’ would want to live,” the Washington Post reports.

“His criticism rang with a particular irony in Baltimore County, where presidential son-in-law Jared Kushner owns more than a dozen apartment complexes that have been cited for hundreds of code violations and, critics say, provide substandard housing to lower-income tenants… Tenants of Kushner properties reported mouse infestations, mold problems and maggots.”

I have been making the same point about this President and his RINO views and policies.

Conservative columnist and author George Will on said that the GOP has become a "cult" of President Trump, attributing the shift to an "absence of ideas."

"It has become a cult," Will said on MSNBC after being asked whether the Republican Party has become the party of Trump.

"It has become a cult because of an absence of ideas. Because they have jettisoned the ideas for years, decades, all the 20th century almost. Conservatives said we're for free trade. Trump said, 'By the way, you're not anymore.' And they said, 'OK, we're not for free trade anymore.' Or they pretend to be."

Reagan was for free trade agreements. Although it did lead to a different kind of economic growth in the United States. Lower labor costs in countries like China, India and others, manufacturing jobs were greatly reduced. It was going to happen anyway.

He worked with our NATO allies and eventually it lead to the collapse of the Soviet Union.

Trump is working WITH the Russians and Putin, who is a brutal dictator. He believes what Putin has said over the evidence by our intelligence services, that the Russians didn't attack our election system.

Vladimir McConnell has blocked the election interference law from being voted on in the Senate.

He's actually requesting assistance from the Russians in 2020.

But despite all of this shit, you all stand up and salute like the brown Shirts in 1936.

What a disgusting scene here.

Todays "brown shirts" are antifa and those democrats calling for "followers" to harass opponents wherever they go.

They even insert agitators into Trump rallies to stoke racial discourse and violence. They call everybody racist to inflame tensions and stoke division.

"resistance"

Democrats tried to steal an election then tried to shift blame to Trump. They haven't given up yet.

It's falling apart, you will likely be totally insane before the next election, definitely after Trump sweeps to a Reaganesque victory.

Tennessee Lawmaker Suddenly Quits

Tennessee Rep. Bill Sanderson (R) suddenly announced his resignation from his legislative seat last week, the Tennessean reports.

Sanderson, who owns a winery, said his business has increased significantly in recent years and he’s been unable to adequately maintain it while being a part-time lawmaker.

But Cari Gervin reports that Sanderson, who “has voted repeatedly in favor of legislation designed to harm the LGBT community,” has also “been openly soliciting sex with much younger men on Grindr, a gay hook-up and dating app.”

His resignation came after being asked about his online activity.

Top Democrat's wife may have gained 'illegal private benefit' from his committee activities

A charity run by the wife of Rep. Elijah Cummings received millions from special interest groups and corporations that had business before her husband’s committee and could have been used illegally, according to an IRS complaint filed by an ethics watchdog group.

Cummings, 68, a Maryland Democrat, is chairman of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform. His wife, Maya Rockeymoore, 48, is the chairman of the Maryland Democratic Party and briefly ran in the state's gubernatorial race last year. The couple married in 2008. Cummings was once heavily in debt — in part due to hefty child support payments to his first wife and two other women he had children with — but his financial situation has improved considerably over the past decade.

Rockeymoore runs two entities, a nonprofit group called the Center for Global Policy Solutions and a for-profit consulting firm called Global Policy Solutions, LLC, whose operations appear to have overlapped, according to the IRS complaint filed by watchdog group the National Legal and Policy Center on Monday. The complaint states that the arrangement may have been used to derive "illegal private benefit."

Global Policy Solutions received more than $6.2 million in grants between 2013 and 2016, according to tax records

george will is what william f buckley used to call "a well-fed republican."

will is content to sit there and tut-tut to those who support trump when will is partially responsible for there ever being a president trump. will is emblematic of the elite that so many in the nation grew sick of, with the inevitable backlash being the election of trump. he's one of the guys who was present when david brooks fawned over the crease in 0linsky's trousers.

will claims to be a conservative, yet all he appears to want to conserve is liberalism's rise to total control, all while getting paid very handsomely by the bozo's post and others for documenting liberalism's rise and conservatism's decline.

i used to support and admire will, and would seek out his columns for their wisdom. now, since he's hitched his little opportunistic wagon to MSDNC i have no use for him at all.

will is no charles krauthammer.

President Barack Obama says "massive investments in urban communities" could "make a difference right now." Representative Elijah Cummings, who represents Maryland in Congress, says, "We have to invest in our cities and our children." And House Democratic Whip Steny Hoyer, who also represents the state, says, "But we're going to have to as a country invest if we're going to have the kinds of communities we want."

But the idea that we haven't been "investing" in Baltimore is nonsense.

Federal and state money has been pouring into the city for decades. From fiscal years 2003 to 2013 (the last year for which these reports are available), Baltimore received at least $2.4 billion in federal assistance and another $1.8 billion in state aid. The city also received roughly $1.8 billion in federal stimulus money, of which more than $1.4 billion has been spent so far. And this doesn't count the billions of dollars received directly by the people who live in Baltimore through various social welfare programs.

Yet nearly a quarter of the people in the city still live in poverty, 65 percent above the national level. We've clearly been throwing a lot of money at poverty in Baltimore without much result.

Part of the problem, unsurprisingly, is that the city does not make very good use of the money it receives.

In 2012, for example, Baltimore received $9.5 million in federal funds to deal with the city's growing homeless problem. But according to an audit by the Department of Housing and Urban Development, the city did not properly monitor the homelessness funds, paid providers according to a preset formula rather than actual expenditures, lost track of money in several instances, and paid city staffers based on estimates, not the actual time they spent on grant activities.

The city ended up having to repay nearly a third of the money. Not to worry, though: Baltimore expects to receive another $21.8 million in homelessness assistance this year.

Similarly, the city may end up having to repay a federal education grant designed to help the city's poorest schools, after an audit by the Department of Education found that much of the money was actually used for dinner cruises, makeovers and meals.

And a new audit of a city program to help low-income families with heating and energy bills found that nearly 20 percent of payments were unsupported by paperwork, and others had missing or incorrect information. Some bills were paid multiple times, while still other payments were made to families that didn't live in the city.

But it's not just a question of waste, fraud and abuse. Even when the money was spent as intended, it has done little good.
