Gotta laugh at British politics.

It's like a reality game show or something?
Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s call for early elections has been rejected as Brexit opponents seek to pass a bill which would prevent the UK from a no-deal exit from the European Union. From the BBC:

The funny thing about this is that they are now over three years into working out a Brexit deal and apparently no closer to one. Johnson's attempts to simply suspend parliament while he signs a flat Brexit deal that would require many of the details to be figured out later was apparently not much more than a bluff. Otherwise, there would be no reason why Johnson would be giving a bigger rip at this point what they are doing.

The reality is that not engaging in a good faith effort to garner a credible Brexit deal is exactly the point, and that point is quite transparent. Many of the members of Parliament do not want to follow through with Brexit and are openly doing everything that they can to undermine any attempts by anyone else to work it out. Apparently the big stall is designed to continue to push it off until perhaps they can work out another do-over vote on Brexit.

Meanwhile, these same members were demanding that Johnson call a new election (which seems to happen more often than many California homeless people change underwear) to somehow prove that their anti-Brexit stance was gaining traction, only to get upset when Johnson "did" decide to call a new vote (because they believe it was too soon).

This is a very non-serious way to run a government.

Actually, it is thought that Boris (a hero of Trump's) now WANTS an election which he calculates he can win. I hope he's wrong and the Brits, many of whom now see how deceived they were, toss him from office and get to vote to stay in the EU, and do.

C.H. Truth said...

James - the fact that the UK is still in the EU is not much different than a politician getting voted out of office, and then refusing to leave.

That would be like Trump not leaving, stalling his departure, and continuing to demand that there be a revote to see if people "now" want him to stay.

on the contrary pederast...

boris is simply trying to deliver on the outcome of the referendum. the EU has zero redeeming qualities, the brits voted to leave the shitpile, and johnson was brought in to facilitate what cameron and may could not.

the original promise of the EU was always a con.

btw, it's nice to see that you're such a fan of that virulent anti-semite piece of shit jeremy corbyn. he seeks to remain.

UNITED NATIONS (AP) _ A senior U.N. environmental official says entire nations could be wiped off the face of the Earth by rising sea levels if the global warming trend is not reversed by the year 2000.

Coastal flooding and crop failures would create an exodus of ″eco- refugees,′ ′ threatening political chaos, said Noel Brown, director of the New York office of the U.N. Environment Program, or UNEP.

He said governments have a 10-year window of opportunity to solve the greenhouse effect before it goes beyond human control.

As the warming melts polar icecaps, ocean levels will rise by up to three feet, enough to cover the Maldives and other flat island nations, Brown told The Associated Press in an interview on Wednesday.

Coastal regions will be inundated; one-sixth of Bangladesh could be flooded, displacing a fourth of its 90 million people. A fifth of Egypt’s arable land in the Nile Delta would be flooded, cutting off its food supply, according to a joint UNEP and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency study.

″Ecological refugees will become a major concern, and what’s worse is you may find that people can move to drier ground, but the soils and the natural resources may not support life. Africa doesn’t have to worry about land, but would you want to live in the Sahara?″ he said.

UNEP estimates it would cost the United States at least $100 billion to protect its east coast alone.

Shifting climate patterns would bring back 1930s Dust Bowl conditions to Canadian and U.S. wheatlands, while the Soviet Union could reap bumper crops if it adapts its agriculture in time, according to a study by UNEP and the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis.

Excess carbon dioxide is pouring into the atmosphere because of humanity’s use of fossil fuels and burning of rain forests, the study says. The atmosphere is retaining more heat than it radiates, much like a greenhouse.

The most conservative scientific estimate that the Earth’s temperature will rise 1 to 7 degrees in the next 30 years, said Brown.

The difference may seem slight, he said, but the planet is only 9 degrees warmer now than during the 8,000-year Ice Age that ended 10,000 years ago.

Brown said if the warming trend continues, ″the question is will we be able to reverse the process in time? We say that within the next 10 years, given the present loads that the atmosphere has to bear, we have an opportunity to start the stabilizing process.″

He said even the most conservative scientists ″already tell us there’s nothing we can do now to stop a ... change″ of about 3 degrees.

″Anything beyond that, and we have to start thinking about the significant rise of the sea levels ... we can expect more ferocious storms, hurricanes, wind shear, dust erosion.″

He said there is time to act, but there is no time to waste.

UNEP is working toward forming a scientific plan of action by the end of 1990, and the adoption of a global climate treaty by 1992. In May, delegates from 103 nations met in Nairobi, Kenya - where UNEP is based - and decided to open negotiations on the treaty next year.

Nations will be asked to reduce the use of fossil fuels, cut the emission of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases such as methane and fluorocarbons, and preserve the rain forests.

″We have no clear idea about the ecological minimum of green space that the planet needs to function effectively. What we do know is that we are destroying the tropical rain forest at the rate of 50 acres a minute, about one football field per second,″ said Brown.

Each acre of rain forest can store 100 tons of carbon dioxide and reprocess it into oxygen.

Brown suggested that compensating Brazil, Indonesia and Kenya for preserving rain forests may be necessary.

The European Community is talking about a half-cent levy on each kilowatt- hour of fossil fuels to raise $55 million a year to protect the rain forests, and other direct subsidies may be possible, he said.

It is not democracy because quite a few British politicians are defying the will of the people as it is expressed through the referendum.

And sooner or later they are going to pay a political penalty for it or there with be a second glorious revolution.

This is the danger of giving power to an elite political class that has nothing but contempt for common people and the arrogance to think they know better.

Hopefully we won't make that mistake in 2020.

"In the run-up to President Barack Obama’s controversial nuclear deal with Iran, the U.S. military under the Obama administration reportedly used American spy satellites to monitor Israel Defense Force actions out of concern that the Jewish state would strike Iran’s nuclear program.

The detail was contained in an extensive New York Times Magazine story titled “The Secret History of the Push to Strike Iran.” The story says it is based on accounts with “dozens of current and former American, Israeli and European officials,” including many top American and Israeli officials cited on the record."

Finally a fox news host who has a brain.....the goat fucker will stick his head further up trumps old fat white ass....BTW....who is going to pay for the wall?????

Fox News senior judicial analyst Andrew Napolitano has a warning for the Republican lawmakers who are sticking with President Donald Trump, even after he raided military funds to build his border wall.

They might be cheering for him now, but they could end up “weeping” later, he said.

The Constitution gives spending powers to Congress, not the president, part of the “separation of powers that Madison crafted as a bulwark against tyranny,” Napolitano said. In this case, Congress “expressly declined to give him that money,” and Trump signed the bill that denied him the cash for his wall.

Then, Trump took the money anyway, using emergency powers that Napolitano noted may have been passed into law by previous Congresses, yet are not in the Constitution.

In a video on Fox News, Napolitano said Trump has also essentially created his own sales tax ― again, a power that is supposed to belong to Congress ― in the form of his tariffs on Chinese goods, likewise done in the name of a supposed emergency. He summed it up in his column:

“After years of faithless Congresses legally but unconstitutionally ceding power to the presidency, we have arrived where we are today ― a president who spends unappropriated funds, raises taxes, defies courts and changes immigration laws on his own.”
Napolitano warned that the same Republicans who are cheering as Trump uses these unconstitutional powers “will weep over it when a Democrat is in the White House.”

In his video presentation, Napolitano called it “dangerous to our liberty” to let the president take the powers that belong to the Congress.

“When Congress lets presidents write their own laws, then he’s not a president,” Napolitano said. “He’s a prince.

Yes this is an extremely biased opinion piece about a notorious pollster , but one can always hope..... From today's NYT's Funny trump still saying he was correct about alabama......BWWWWWWWWWWWAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!! To bad he was a day late and a buck short!!!!!

Toward the end of his new book, “R.I.P. G.O.P.,” the renowned Democratic pollster Stanley Greenberg makes a thrilling prediction, delivered with the certainty of prophecy. “The year 2020 will produce a second blue wave on at least the scale of the first in 2018 and finally will crash and shatter the Republican Party that was consumed by the ill-begotten battle to stop the New America from governing,” he writes.

It sounds almost messianic: the Republican Party, that foul agglomeration of bigotry and avarice that has turned American politics into a dystopian farce, not just defeated but destroyed. The inexorable force of demography bringing us a new, enlightened political dispensation. Greenberg foresees “the death of the Republican Party as we’ve known it,” and a Democratic Party “liberated from the nation’s suffocating polarization to use government to advance the public good.” I’d like to believe it, and maybe you would too. But should we?

This is not the first time that experts have predicted the inevitable triumph of progressive politics. Seventeen years ago, John Judis and Ruy Teixeira published “The Emerging Democratic Majority,” which argued that the country was on the cusp of a liberal political realignment driven by growing diversity, urbanization and gender equality. In sheer numerical terms they were right; between then and now the Republican Party won the presidential popular vote only once, in 2004. But Republicans still have more power than Democrats, and in 2017, Judis disavowed his book’s thesis, arguing that only populist economics could deliver Democratic victories.

As it happens, Greenberg, who became famous as Bill Clinton’s pollster in 1992 and consulted for Hillary Clinton in 2016, told me he used to “shudder” at the “Emerging Democratic Majority” analysis. “I’m used to campaigns in which you impact what’s going to happen,” he said. “The idea that it’s just going to happen because of trends is dangerous. And it was dangerous with Hillary.”

There’s a fascinating tension in “R.I.P. G.O.P.” Greenberg is scathing about the failures of the Hillary Clinton campaign, accusing it of “malpractice.” Yet he believes that at least some of the political assumptions that were mistaken in 2016 will be sound in 2020.

NOAA's 7 day forecast had the hurricane going over Alabama with a possibility of tropical force winds.

NOAA only releases the 5 day forecast to the general public and the media but emergency planners get the 7 day forecast.

There's a huge margin of error on both the 5 day and 7 day forecast but emergency planners need it the pre-position supplies and personnel. So it's good enough for that.

President Trump repeatedly said that Hurricane Dorian will hit Alabama, even as forecasters insist the powerful storm will not head in that direction.

Dorian became a "major" Category 5 hurricane with 180 mph sustained maximum winds Sunday morning as it approached the northern Bahamas and the eastern Florida coast.

Forecasters right now expect Dorian to turn north and swipe the coast of Florida, Georgia, and the Carolinas, but Trump tweeted Alabama, which is west of Florida, will also be hit.

"In addition to Florida - South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia, and Alabama, will most likely be hit (much) harder than anticipated. Looking like one of the largest hurricanes ever. Already category 5. BE CAREFUL! GOD BLESS EVERYONE!" he tweeted Sunday morning.

Fox News anchor Shepard Smith went after Donald Trump’s “endless” lies Thursday and called the president’s erroneous warning about Hurricane Dorian threatening Alabama “fake news defined.”

Smith wondered why the president can’t simply admit he was wrong instead of wasting “days and days” insisting he’s right. “Some things in Trumplandia are inexplicable,” Smith scoffed on “Shepard Smith Reporting.”

Trump insisted Sunday in a tweet and again later that day that Dorian was threatening Alabama, which was quickly corrected by the National Weather Service.

On Wednesday Trump justified his warning by pointing to a National Hurricane Center map of Dorian’s possible route that had clearly been altered with some kind of marker to clumsily include Alabama.

“Everybody makes mistakes,” Smith said. “Instead ... the president blamed the media for his own inaccurate warning and then started to rewrite history on the matter” — and used “doctored graphics.”

Smith asked: “Why would the president of the United States do this? He decries fake news that isn’t, and disseminates fake news that is.”

On Thursday, Trump tweeted another map, which appeared to show a thin sliver of Alabama potentially in the path of winds. (“He has no clue what he’s talking about, or what is plotted on that map,” University of Miami hurricane researcher Brian McNoldy told The Associated Press about Trump’s latest offering. “At the time of that cycle, Alabama was at even lower risk than before, and it was barely anything to start with.”)

Instead of tweeting, it would have been a good time for Trump to “apologize and move on,” said Smith. “That map was from the day the hurricane became a hurricane .... It was four days old at the precise time he said Alabama would likely be hit harder than anticipated. By then, it was fake news defined on a very serious subject.”

Trump tweeted out maps developed on Aug. 29 and 30. He tweeted about the threat to Alabama on Sunday, Sept. 1, by which time maps showed that the storm had changed course.

Trump's seeming obsession with Alabama and the hurricane drew derision on social media.

"Does @realDonaldTrump really not have anything better to do all day than rant on Twitter about whether Dorian was projected to hit Alabama?" tweeted national security lawyer Bradley P. Moss, who represents USA TODAY in open records litigation.

Joe Walsh, a former Republican congressman who is mounting a long-shot primary challenge to Trump, responded to Moss by saying: "That’s about it. He really doesn’t have anything better to do."

In his morning tweet, Trump said: "In the early days of the hurricane, when it was predicted that Dorian would go through Miami or West Palm Beach, even before it reached the Bahamas, certain models strongly suggested that Alabama & Georgia would be hit as it made its way through Florida & to the Gulf."

In a follow-up, he said: "Instead it turned North and went up the coast, where it continues now. In the one model through Florida, the Great State of Alabama would have been hit or grazed. In the path it took, no. Read my FULL FEMA statement. What I said was accurate! All Fake News in order to demean!"
