No such thing as justified partisan driven hatred

So this morning I read an article from a member of the Political Science staff at Rutgers. This particular professor suggested that because of Donald Trump he no longer trusts the wisdom of the founding fathers. 

So for forty years he taught Government in the same manner. This would mean that he missed Nixon and Carter, but not by much. Certainly, he would have been more than privy about the criminal aspects of the Nixon Administration as well as the blatant incompetence of Jimmy Carter and his Administration. There is little doubt that things went better under the next five Presidents, Reagan, Bush, Clinton, Bush, and Obama. While each of them had their flaws and each of them had their critics, there can be a case made for each of them having served relatively distinguished terms. 

But apparently Professor Baker finds little or no redeeming qualities in the current President. Ironically, what the Professor mainly criticizes the President for are things previously done by other Presidents. It's just that he apparently doesn't "trust" this particular President with the same amount of authority as other Presidents. A common theme among liberals. 

Let's be clear. Trump has been President for nearly three years. For all of the commotion and grief he has caused his liberal critics, the actual state of the country is not worse for the wear. The executive actions and executive rules that he continues to make to undo similar actions and rules put forth by the Obama administration has not harmed anything. In fact most all of them have seemed to help our economy, job situation, and security. 

While honest intelligent people can disagree on these moves, honest and intelligent people should not judge them as inherently right or wrong. They are little more than partisan disagreements. More to the point, the reality (like it or not) is that Trump is much more like the previous Presidents (Reagan, Bush, Clinton, Bush) in actual governing than Obama was like any of these predecessors. If any of our recent Presidents really went outside the box of conventional Presidential wisdom and Presidential action, it would have been Obama at least as much as Trump. As much as Trump makes himself out to be an outsider draining the swamp, much of what he has done is old school conventional wisdom (with a little more backbone). 

I think the part that alarms liberals is that they believed that Obama's hope and change were going to have a lasting effect. They seem to honestly believe that whatever changes Obama made or to whatever degree that he attempted to shift the country, that the next President was going to keep moving in that same direction. I think more than anything else, the idea that Trump is putting us back on the track that we had been on has been an extremely disturbing reality for many on the left. The underlying dismantling of the so called Obama legacy probably accounts for a large portion of the angst felt by the left against Donald Trump. Probably more so than anything specifically Trump has done "personally". They continue to imagine a world where Hillary Clinton picked up the Obama mantle and moved it forward. Then they open their eyes and see Trump wherever they look, utterly destroying it. 

But the question is simple. Was Obama and his policies a bastion of transformational change that everyone should have seen as required "progress" or was he simply a liberal aberration from long standing principles that people feel we need to get back to? The answer to this question is not one that can be answered by anyone with any absolute authority. Certainly not a professor from Rutgers. It's not really even a moral or ethical question. It's simply a question of partisanship and political opinion. Period.  

Bottom line: it's wrong to believe that your partisan beliefs about Donald Trump can justify feelings that really push the boundaries of normal emotional reactions. Your hate is on you. Nobody else.
