This reminded me of the Nixon impeachment hearings.
On Tuesday House Democrats held their first official hearing in what they are calling an impeachment investigation.
They called on President Donald Trump’s former campaign manager, Corey Lewandowski, to come before the House Judiciary Committee. Lewandowski is a devoted Republican supporter of President Trump.
Many times during the investigation, Lewandowski referred to a statement, "The White House has directed me not to disclose the subject of any discussions.”
Capitol Hill is feeling the contention and push back from the Trump administration. There were two other witnesses who were subpoenaed alongside Lewandowski, both of whom were former White House aides that did not show up Tuesday, on orders of the White House.
This investigation is bringing up concerns from the younger congressmen and women. Freshman Congresswoman Katie Hill says she understands the importance of the investigation and supports Chairman Jerry Nadler and the inquiry, but doesn’t want this investigation to distract from other accomplishments.
“We have to uphold and defend the constitution even while we would much rather be working on issues like addressing gun violence, or housing or you know, healthcare,” said Hill. “All of those other issues are the real reasons that we came here. But we cannot ignore our fundamental constitutional obligations and this is a process that has to play out for us to decide on probably what will be the hardest vote of our lives.”
According to the Mueller report, Lewandowski was asked twice by Trump to limit Mueller’s investigation, an order Lewandowski passed off to another aide who declined to follow through.
During the hearing, Lewandowski was asked dozens of times by Democrats to recount specifics from the report only to get stonewall responses. Lewandowski also claimed Trump did not ask him to do anything illegal.

Lewandowski, as Townhall reported, willingly came to testify. But, House Judiciary Chairman Jerry Nadler probably wishes he never invited him in the first place. Even CNN guests are saying that Lewandowski "owned" Congressional Democrats today.
"Look, it's clear from the Mueller report he was a willing agent of obstruction, attempted obstruction because they didn't obstruct justice. But look, we're all thinking 'what was the point of this hearing today?" CNN's Amanda Carpenter wondered on Tuesday.
"Republicans, Trump people talk about owning the Libs...Corey Lewandowksi owned the Judiciary Committee today. Jerry Nadler played a stupid game and they won a stupid prize because Corey Lewandowski just made a sham of that," Carpenter added.
"Republicans on the committee with their mockery of the process. This system is broken," she declared. "If the Democrats wanted to impeach the president, they should have started that process a long time ago."
"I don't know what they were looking to get, that they couldn't already get from the Mueller Report. They need to drop this. You can't do an impeachment in an election year. It's gonna look terrible," the CNN guest continued.
"So they need to figure out a game plan, cause it's clear, they have no idea how to handle this administration," she said disappointingly.
