The month of August ended as it began: with a shooting rampage and a significant death toll.

Five people were killed near Odessa, Tex., on Saturday as a gunman started shooting indiscriminately at cars, bringing the number of victims of mass killings by firearms to 51 for the month.

The term mass killings is defined by the Justice Department as three or more killings in a single episode, excluding the death of a gunman. There is no legal definition for the term mass shooting, despite its frequent use by gun control groups and the news media.

This month’s loss of life was most acute in Texas, where four of the eight deadliest shootings occurred, including an Aug. 3 massacre at a Walmart in El Paso that killed 22 people.

The spate of gun violence has left the country on edge and catalyzed a more intense debate over gun control.

"The right to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed."

That means congress can make no law banning the production, sale, and possession of firearms.

There is no defense from a homicidal nut. If he didn't have a gun he would use a car, a sword, a knife, or a homemade bomb.

The problem is a society that produces these angry people and give them the ideal to commit a crime that will make them famous.

"index capital gains to inflation"

What a superior idea. A Regulator step that this President can do on his own . It helps the middle income earners and retirees as they sell huge gains made in stocks .

Who would find this to be a negative to the middle income investor?

Another idiot post.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck the smuck.

"“I would be for indexing all capital gains and savings in borrowing. And that indeed would shift the balance in this country, away from too much consumption, too much borrowing, and towards more savings and investment over the long run."

And you would guess wrong. It would be just as much a crime as if he used a machete. (The weapon of choice for the MS13 gang).

Well Denny, living in paradise full time has it's drawback and an occasional hurricane is one them.

Since I live in s CBS home away from the water I'm not too much worried. The biggest challenge is losing electricity for five days.

What Percent Of Americans Own Stocks? - Financial Samurai

As of 2019, the top 10 percent of Americans owned an average of $969,000 in stocks. The next 40 percent owned $132,000 on average. For the bottom half of families, it was just under $54,000

Yeah it's a real bitch since the foundation is dug four feet into the ground and is made of steel reinforced concrete.

Camille had 200mph winds when it slammed into Biloxi in 1969 and collapsed a 3 story concrete apartment building.

While @realDonaldTrump was wildly tweeting about bedbugs last week, he modestly omitted to mention a great milestone his administration had just achieved: adding $2.5 TRILLION to the national debt! Congratulations to him, and to our children, who will have to pay it off! https://t.co/rTPuFCOKrg

I have completely abandoned the idea that Republicans are *AGAINST* big government.

They're *JUST FINE WITH IT* when it comes to warfare, or prisons, or anti-drugs, or espionage. Or putting children in cages. And denying health care for life saving procedures, and deportation to where they will die.

NO! They gave up on that type of "small government" a long time ago....

And I have nothing but contempt for them now. I voted for Ford vs Carter. and Reagan.

Since then I've seen the middle class percentage of the GDP shrink. The percentage of the working class who belonged to unions shrink drastically.

If the Democrats come back to favor unions again, they might get some of the white middle class vote in 2020.

In other words, defense, law enforcement and commerce. The things government is suppose to do.

Massive social welfare and regulation? Not so much.

FDR saved capitalism by providing social welfare and regulations like allowing unionization of the manufacturing jobs.

Your side lost the debate on that again when George W Bush tried to privatize Social Security.

Just a question Roger, what exactly is the Democrat government of California doing for you?

Or are you just too old and white to be bothered with and you're just left to die in the gutter?

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

You ignored this

Or putting children in cages. And denying health care for life saving procedures, and deportation to where they will die. And again trying to overturn Obamacare and leaving millions without medical insurance coverage.

NO! They gave up on that type of "small government" a long time ago....

Most economists now say that FDR actually prolong the Depression with his policies.

It certainly was a nagging problem up until December 7, 1941.

Repealing Obamacare is a small government move, as is preventing the astronomical expansion of welfare rolls with illegal aliens.

So tell me again, what is your objection?

Washington, which is among those four, ranked No. 1 on the overall best states list.

3. Washington

4. California

5. Oregon

California has a problem with the homelessness issue.

A lot of people who are mentally disabled are still capable of coming here because of the mild climate.

By the way I was never in a homeless shelter or on the street alone.

It's 95° and the air conditioning is working well.

Even some Republicans are getting sick and tired about this President.

The editors of National Review are exhausted with presidential tweets, from asking whether Federal Reserve chairman Jerome Powell or Chinese leader Chairman Xi is the bigger enemy, to “hereby ordering” private companies to look for alternatives to operations in China. (If Fed chairman Powell is indeed an enemy of the United States, then whatever fool appointed him to that position should resign in disgrace.)

Rod Dreher is exhausted from the president behaving like “a clown who refuses to meet with the prime minister of Denmark because she won’t sell him Greenland.”

Last week, Bret Baier of Fox News felt the need to respond to the president’s public complaints that Fox had “changed” and that its polls were always the least positive for him.

“Fox has not changed,” Baier said after airing the president’s comments. “We have a news side and an opinion side. Opinion folks express their opinions. We do polls. Our latest poll had the Democratic candidates head to head, several of them ahead of President Trump, and this poll tracks exactly what the RealClearPolitics average of polls — even a little the other way — and this poll matches what we are seeing out there.” Panelists Susan Page, Ben Domenech and Chris Stirewalt concurred.

None of the people listed above are knee-jerk Trump critics..

The link will follow, but it's The National Review, hardly a bunch of traitors who don't love Trump like Scott.

Shortly after the president declared that Jews who vote for Democrats are being disloyal to Israel, our old friend Byron York – again, hardly a knee-jerk Trump critic, responded, “the president should really stop talking about loyalty and disloyalty and who he thinks is loyal and who he thinks is disloyal.” (Come on, surely the man who hired Omarosa, Michael Cohen and Anthony Scaramucci no doubt can spot loyalty when he sees it! Even Mollie Hemingway acknowledges that bad hiring decisions are one of the fairest arguments against Trump.)

A lot of people, who really want to see America thrive, who want to see more conservative policies enacted, more good judges appointed, and who want to see the president succeed are getting tired of his daily drama.

I have always thought that Scott was a rational thinking person. but since Trump was elected by a minority popular vote margin, he has been worshiping the President who lies about everything from Obama was born in Kenya to his taking the word of Putin, over the CIA and the other intelligence agencies, he has been supportive of everything he says or does.

I've notice Democrats complain about it but all they ever do is propose even more spending to pay for free health care for illegal aliens and to forgive college debt to rich spoiled Ivy League kids.

Why am I not surprise that you would rejoice in the misery of innocent people just to get in your pathological and hate filled mind a small measure of revenge at the object of your irrational hatred.

But image my joy in your disappointment as the storm is still predicted to parallel the east coast of Florida and not impact Mar-a-Largo all that much.

But I'll remember you words the next time an 8.0 magnitude earthquake hits Southern California.
