The New York City Bar Association on Wednesday publicly called on U.S. Attorney General William Barr to immediately recuse himself from any further Department of Justice processes related to the ongoing investigation into the Trump administration's controversial dealings with Ukraine.

Here's the latest:
1. Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman, the top Ukraine expert on the National Security Council, told House impeachment investigators "there was no doubt" what President Trump was demanding during his call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy.
"It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see where the gain would be for the president in investigating the son of a political opponent," Vindman, who was on the call, said, according to the transcript of his closed-door testimony made public Friday.
Vindman also testified that Trump administration officials delivered a clear quid quo pro message to Ukraine.
2. President Trump said he spoke to the president of Ukraine by phone in April, months before the call at the center of the impeachment inquiry.
“I have the second call, which nobody knew about," Trump said, speaking to reporters as he left the White House.. "I guess they want that to be produced also. ... I understand they'd like it, and I have no problem giving it to them."
3. Acting White House chief of staff Mick Mulvaney refused to comply with a subpoena Friday morning, informing investigators shortly before his scheduled deposition that he would not appear, citing "absolute immunity."
During a press conference last month, Mulvaney admitted President Trump withheld vital military aid to pressure Ukraine to conduct investigations that would benefit the president’s personal and political interests.. He has since walked back the televised statement. He would be testify under oath and he would either plead the 5th amendment or tell the truth about how the President had committed bribery.
4. Former national security adviser John Bolton's attorney, Charles Cooper, said both Bolton and his deputy, Charles Kupperman, have information concerning "national security and foreign affairs," and Bolton has information that hasn't been touched on publicly to date.
Bolton "was personally involved in many of the events, meetings, and conversations about which you have already received testimony, as well as many relevant meetings and conversations that have not yet been discussed in the testimonies thus far," Cooper wrote.
Cooper made the disclosure to the House's general counsel in an effort to explain why his client needs a court order to be able to testify.
Bolton, who stepped down in September, did not appear for a scheduled deposition on Thursday because he and Kupperman are seeking a judge’s ruling on whether they're bound by the White House's directive not to appear. The White House says the pair have "absolute testimonial immunity," Cooper noted.
5. Rep. Jim Jordan, one of President Trump’s most outspoken supporters, will be one of the Republicans grilling witnesses next week when the much-anticipated impeachment hearings get underway.
Jordan was tapped to temporarily take the spot of Rep. Rick Crawford on the Intelligence Committee.
The Ohio lawmaker got the nod a day after a second man accused him of ignoring sexual abuse while working as a wrestling coach at Ohio State University.

The person wrongly identified, according to the Daily Beast’s Will Sommer, is R. David Edelman — a former staffer in the Obama White House. Sommer quotes Edelman as saying that on Thursday, “There were people threatening real physical harm, alluding to the fact that I will not live very long. That was obviously upsetting for my family.”
Sommer reports that on Thursday, “tweets with photos of Edelman’s face surrounded by circles and arrows in a picture taken from his time at the White House were racking up tens of thousands of retweets.” That photo, according to Sommer, shows Obama White House staff feeling “dismayed” after learning of the 2016 presidential election results but was wrongly described on social media this week as “Obama staffers reacting to Trump’s first White House visit.”
Edelman explained, “It had my face circled, and it said something to the effect of, ‘Here is your alleged Ukraine whistleblower.”
But Edelman, according to Sommer, cannot possibly be the Ukraine whistleblower: he left the White House in January 2017 — which was two and one-half years before Trump’s now-infamous July 25 phone conservation with Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky.

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Even in a White House of never-befores, this may be one of the more head-spinning: The president’s chief of staff is trying to join a lawsuit against the president.
The decision put renewed attention on his relationship with the president.
Mick Mulvaney works only about 50 steps from the Oval Office as he runs the White House staff but rather than simply obey President Trump’s order to not cooperate with House impeachment investigators, he sent his lawyers to court late Friday night asking a judge whether he should or not.
To obtain such a ruling, the lawyers asked to join a lawsuit already filed by a former White House official — a lawsuit that names “the Honorable Donald J. Trump” as a DEFENDANT along with congressional leaders. The lawyers tried to finesse that by saying in the body of their motion that the defendants they really wanted to sue were the congressional leaders, but their own motion still listed Mr. Trump at the top as a defendant because that is the suit they sought to join.
In effect, Mr. Mulvaney hopes the court will tell him whether to listen to his own boss, who wants him to remain silent, or to comply with a subpoena from the House, which wants his testimony. That put Mr. Mulvaney at odds with some other current White House and administration officials who had simply defied the House, citing the president’s order not to cooperate with what he called an illegitimate “witch hunt.”
Mr. Mulvaney did not explain why he chose a different course, but his decision focused renewed attention on his relationship with Mr. Trump; it has been increasingly strained as House Democrats prepare to open public hearings into whether the president should be impeached for high crimes and misdemeanors.
“It’s symptomatic of a White House that is more dysfunctional than ever — except now it’s not just chaos, the long knives are coming out,” said Chris Whipple, the author of “The Gatekeepers,” a history of White House chiefs of staff. “Everybody, including the White House chief, seems to be lawyering up.”
Mr. Whipple could not think of any precedent for a chief of staff going to court rather than obey a president’s order. “Given that Mulvaney has been willing to do almost anything for Trump, it’s remarkable that he’s asking for a second opinion,” he said.
