Military people overwhelmingly support Trump and Republicans in general. The fact that the President and the top military brass have a mutual distrust really doesn't change any of that.
Trump is "NOT" part of the neoconservative Bush faction and he is certainly not part of whatever it is that you wanted to call the Obama faction. He likely wanted to change course (as well he should) and obviously the people who had risen to the top based on their positions on neoconservatism and whatever Obama stood for are not going to be in sync with change.
Does it completely escape your attention that Trump was not elected to "go along" with what agency leadership, military brass, and other deep state factions want?
He was ACTUALLY elected specifically to distrust them, change their direction, and ultimately to replace them if they would not go along with the changes he wanted to put in place.
This has NOTHING to do with your diluted concept that these people "know better". Even if they did "know better" it doesn't change the fact that their job is to follow orders (not to undermine those orders).

The White House announced that it will not participate in the House Judiciary Committee’s impeachment hearing on Wednesday — but left open the prospect of participating in future hearings, Politico reports.
So after screaming and screaming about not being allowed to participate, they now say they don't want to.

The president has to attend a NATO summit this week and he has not time to prepare for a hearing where he doesn't know which witnesses will be call and which witnesses he's allowed to called.
He's rightly concluded that this is just a show trial and the only reason the Democrats want the president to participate is to give it a veneer of validity.
