WASHINGTON (AP) — The Supreme Court cleared the way Friday for the Trump administration to tap billions of dollars in Pentagon funds to build sections of a border wall with Mexico.
The court's five conservative justices gave the administration the greenlight to begin work on four contracts it has awarded using Defense Department money. Funding for the projects had been frozen by lower courts. The court's four liberal justices wouldn't have allowed construction to start.
The justices' decision to lift the freeze on the money allows Trump to make progress on a major 2016 campaign promise heading into his race for a second term. Trump tweeted after the announcement: "Wow! Big VICTORY on the Wall. The United States Supreme Court overturns lower court injunction, allows Southern Border Wall to proceed. Big WIN for Border Security and the Rule of Law!"
A trial court initially froze the funds in May and an appeals court kept that freeze in place earlier this month. The freeze had prevented the government from tapping approximately $2.5 billion in Defense Department money to replace existing sections of barrier in Arizona, California and New Mexico with more robust fencing.

Second federal judge blocks Trump from using military funds for border wall

A federal judge in California ruled on Wednesday that the Trump administration could not use military funds for border wall construction.
Judge Haywood Gilliam Jr. of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, an Obama appointee, ruled that the administration's plan to reallocate defense funding to a series of border construction projects is unlawful.
Gilliam said in his decision that it appeared that the administration had tried to use military funds to circumvent congressional approval, writing that "the border barrier projects Defendants now assert are 'necessary to support the use of the armed forces' are the very same projects Defendants sought — and failed — to build under [the Department on Homeland Security's] civilian authority, because Congress would not appropriate the requested funds."

So how do you know when the lower court "resistance" is out of control? When District Court Judges continue to rule against the President on a case where the USSC has already overturned previous lower court rulings.

So what does the President and the Administration do? Do they actually have to take these rulings seriously? Not only are they the same basic suits, but they are brought by the same groups... again?

Over the summer, multiple lawsuits were pushed forward to prevent the President from shifting military funding to the wall as part of his declaration of a National Emergency. At least two Judges ruled against the President, and it stood that way till the appeal made it to the USSC. The USSC ruled in favor of the President and cleared the way allow the Pentagon to move those funds.
Now, more lawsuits on the same subject are apparently being heard and two more "national injunctions" demanding a halt to the project have been issued by District Judges. It's almost as if they are unaware that the high court has ruled on this matter? But since the same parties brought the first lawsuit... how can that be?
What good is our Judicial system when we now have District Court Judges who see themselves as having the ability to not only issue national injunctions on a whim, but do so in a manner that overrules previous rulings by the USSC?

On a hunting trip to Mongolia earlier this summer the US president’s son Donald Trump Jr killed a rare species of endangered sheep. A permit for the killing was retroactively issued after Trump met with the country’s president, according to new reporting from ProPublica.
Trump was accompanied by security from both the US and Mongolia on the trip, the outlet reported. The argali sheep, with its large horns, is considered a national treasure there, and permission to kill one is “controlled by an opaque permitting system that experts say is mostly based on money, connections and politics”.

He also killed a red deer, which similarly required a permit.
The legality of the importation of big game trophies into the United States has been, like many other issues in the Trump administration, confusing and ever-changing. The president himself has spoken out against the practice, calling such hunting practices a “horror show” despite his two sons being avid trophy hunters.

Donald Trump Jr. blasted Time on Twitter for choosing teen climate activist Greta Thunberg as Person of the Year.
Trump Jr. suggested the pro-democracy protesters who have rocked Hong Kong should have been given the title instead.
"Time leaves out the Hong Kong Protesters fighting for their lives and freedoms to push a teen being used as a marketing gimmick," he tweeted. "How dare you?"
The comment, "How dare you?" is seemingly another jab at Thunberg. The teen famously asked world leaders that same question during an emotional speech at the United Nations in New York City in September.
Edward Felsenthal, Time's editor-in-chief, described Thunberg, who is the youngest person to be named Person of the Year, as the "biggest voice on the biggest issue facing the planet," The Hill reported.
While Trump Jr. has criticized the magazine's choice, other notable political figures and celebrities have praised the pick and the 16-year-old's work.

Is there nothing too petty for this president?
Early Thursday morning, President Trump took to Twitter (where his current follower count is 67.5 million) to attack a 16-year-old girl with Asperger’s syndrome and tell her to “work on her Anger Management problem.”
As always with Trump, when he accuses someone else of something, we get a window into what he himself is feeling. So it’s fair to ask: What did Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg do to make the projectionist-in-chief so hopping mad?
The answer: She was named Time magazine’s Person of the Year.
Time covers are something of a fixation for this president. Back when he was a reality-TV star, he decorated the walls of at least five of his golf clubs with fake ones featuring his own face.
You might remember that it was just eight days ago that the White House erupted in howls of outrage when an academic testifying during the House Intelligence Committee’s impeachment hearings made a pun that involved the name of the president’s own adolescent son. First lady Melania Trump — who, as it happens, has also adopted anti-bullying as her cause — declared that Stanford law professor Pamela Karlan “should be ashamed of your very angry and obviously biased public pandering, and using a child to do it.” Karlan subsequently apologized.

But the real question, as is so often the case where Trump is concerned, is why would the most powerful man in the world stoop to doing the things he does? One answer, at least judging by the reaction to his tweet on Thursday, is that his always-loyal base applauds him when he indulges his basest impulses. “Haha,” one of his supporters responded. “Trump is awesome. You have to love his sense of humor.” And that may be the most depressing thing of all.
Trump’s son, Donald Jr., was not wrong on Wednesday, when he described Time’s Person of the Year franchise as a “marketing gimmick.” It started with the selection of aviator Charles Lindbergh as 1927 Man of the Year — rectifying the mistake the magazine’s editors had made by putting an old picture of King George V & Queen Mary on the cover the week that Lindbergh soloed the Atlantic Ocean.
