2019 losers of the year!

Honorable mentions:

Jussie Smollett - Paid two Nigerians to commit a fake white supremacy hate crime against him... and kept a receipt of the transaction by writing them a check for their efforts. Got fired from his television show and became to the butt of uncountable late night and stand up comedians jokes for his efforts.

Kamala Harris, Cory Booker, and the Democratic candidates of color - Not to put it too bluntly, but the upcoming Democratic debate will feature such a lily white field of candidates that it would make the Ku Klux Klan proud. In spite of having several candidates of color at the start, there is no question at this point that the Democrats will nominate a white person, and likely someone over the age of 70. Kamala Harris had her 15 minutes, but couldn't stand the heat. Cory Booker never lived up to expectations. Same could probably be said about Julian Castro, and Tulsi Gabbard? Andrew Yang has held on as the last remaining minority, but Democrats don't generally see Asians the same way as they see Blacks and Hispanics. Asians are sort of fake minorities with Democrats. These are not so much personal failures of Harris or Booker, as they are a systematic failure by the Democratic Party to keep diversity front and center.

Rudy Giuliani - Rudy should have stayed out of the spotlight and he should try desperately in 2020 to stay out of the spotlight. America's Mayor has lost a ton of credibility since joining forces with Trump, largely because he appears to be an aging shell of the man he once was. Some people age like fine wine, while others age like gluten free bread complete with green mold a day or two later. Rudy's intentions may be good, and he may have even uncovered tangible information in his investigation, but quite frankly nobody cares anymore. He has lost credibility

Mitt Romney - As if losing his status as a true conservative icon, and possible leader in the Senate, Romney made a bad situation worse by being caught creating a alternate online persona whom he named Pierre Delecto. If things were not bad enough for the former Presidential candidate turned ineffective AntiTrumper, he will forever be associated with his French (and why did he pick French) alter ego.

The NBA - The NBA seems to be now suffering from many of the the problems that the NFL has finally moved past. Major stars are out for the season, their television ratings are bombing, the inmates seem to be running the asylum, and they have had major international political issues that have hurt their brand. Of course, the NBA cannot rid themselves of LaBron James and other outspoken stars like the NFL did with Colin Kaepernick. Time will tell how the NBA moves beyond their troubles. Frankly I haven't really watched the NBA much since Kevin Garnett was traded to Boston. It will never truly be the same for me as it was back when Larry Bird, Magic Johnson, Isiah Thomas, and Michael Jordan ruled the league.

California - Homelessness, fires, and hapless politicians, oh my! Meanwhile businesses, corporations, and professionals are bailing like rats from a sinking ship. The only thing that manages to keep California's population from dwindling to nothing is the influx of illegal immigration. Of course losing educated employed Americans and replacing them with uneducated Spanish speaking immigrants is a recipe for... California.

Third runner up:

Beto O'Rourke - Some people thought Beto would become the next President. Seriously! But he failed dramatically throughout the primary season, changing stances more often than he changes underwear. His jumping on tables and quirky mannerisms went from refreshing to creepy like a Ferrari going from zero to sixty. Beto had a legitimate chance to become a Texas Senator had he made that decision. Perhaps that would have some day propelled him to bigger and better things. Now after failing so dramatically at the national level, even his local chances have dimmed. He may have a problem running for city counsel, much less Congress.

Second runner up:

Oberlin College, CNN and knee jerk allegations of racism  - Certainly the story of Gibson Bakery, Oberlin college, and a 30 million dollar judgement was a big 2019 event. As was the recently reinstated lawsuit against CNN from Nick Sandmann (the Covington Catholic High School boy accused of harassing Indian activist Nathan Phillips at a school rally in Washington D.C.). Most recently many media members had to pull stories or tweets after alleging that the "circle game" being played by cadets at the Army Navy game was actually a symbol of white supremacy and that white supremacy was running rampant in our armed forces.

Seems like that pendulum is swinging back. Used to be any allegations of racism were immediately taken as fact and there was never any consequences for making allegations. But Gibson Bakery, Nick Sandmann, and the leadership for our armed forces provided some serious push back for people wanting to just toss around some false allegations of racism for political gain. CNN will probably survive (and may even win their case), and there will be no long term consequence for all of those who called our cadets white supremacists. But for Oberlin college, the $30 million judgement could end up sinking that dying school once and for all... making them a big 2019 loser.

First runner up:

Impeachment - It would be easy to simply list individuals involved and make them part of the list. Schiff, Pelosi, Schumer all would be in the running on their own for being one of the 2019 losers of the year. But it's more powerful and more realistic to toss them into the same group. But make no mistake, not only is this impeachment turning into a political disaster for Democrats (check those battleground state polls), but it is undermining both Democratic leadership (who simply didn't have the courage to stand up to the Squad), as well as demeaning the entire concept of impeachment.

Suddenly the idea of impeachment being a grave national event reserved for obvious and serious "High Crimes and Misdemeanors" has been eliminated and cast away. Democrats have now replaced those constitutional truths with the misguided idea is that impeachment is a political tool and can be used whenever the Majority deems fitting and for whatever the Majority deems it to be at that given moment.

Biggest loser of the year:

James Comey and the FBI - Let's be perfectly clear, the Horowitz report was about as damaging as it could be. It took a little bit of time to get from point A to point B because of the ridiculous summary offered by Horowitz that was at obvious odds with the main body of the report. That "summary" allowed certain Democrats and media outlets to report things that ultimately were not only not true, but in retrospect made things look even more suspicious within the FBI. But once got to the guts of the report, and once they got Horowitz on the witness chair, it became obvious that this was the worst FBI scandal since J. Edgar Hoover first took charge of the FBI.

The worst part about if for Comey and many members of the FBI is that Barr and Durham are still lurking with a much more dangerous and tangible report that will not be tempered with a gracious summary. It may also come with indictments and make 2020 a much worse year for these people than 2019 was.

The losers IMHO of the year will again be the GOP as women and their numbers fade in the growing trump GOP.....said this many times, as women especially educated ones are abandoning the trump party in record numbers and in far fewer being in congress as the D's record numbers continue...And I deliberately did not attribute this just to piss off the goat fucking asshole....!!!!!.

Democratic counterparts. Three of the four current female Republican senators running in 2020 face highly competitive elections in 2020. There are more than six times as many Democratic women as Republican women in the House.

Granted, Republicans — both men and women — have suffered dramatic losses in elections at national, state and local levels since 2016; they have lost control of the House, eight governorships and nine state legislative chambers since Mr. Trump’s election. But female Republican candidates and officeholders face an existential threat.

Mr. Trump’s misogyny and the party’s far-right stance on issues such as abortion and L.G.B.T.Q. rights, guns and immigration have driven away many female voters. Women favor the Democratic Party over the Republican Party by a 19-point margin, according to the Pew Research Center. Seventy-three percent of women under the age of 30 disapprove of the president’s performance, according to the Harvard Institute of Politics Youth Poll.

Suburban and college-educated white women, once reliable Republican voters, have fled the party in droves since Mr. Trump’s election. According to the Brookings Institution, white college educated women increased their vote for Democrats by 13 points between 2016 and 2018. Among women, only white evangelicals remain firmly committed to the G.O.P. and Mr. Trump.

The alienation of female voters from the Republican Party is compounded by the indifference, at best, of Republican men to female candidates.

Together, these two trends have decimated the ranks of Republican women officeholders.

The party’s veer to the right over the 2010s has placed nearly all Republican women with political ambition in a precarious position. Not surprisingly, in this environment, Republican women are reluctant to step up as candidates. This is a rational decision, some political science research shows. Other studies suggest that G.O.P. voters perceive women to be more moderate than men and are therefore less likely to vote for women. Small wonder that Representative Susan Brooks, the head of the Republicans’ House recruitment efforts for the next election cycle, will herself not seek re-election in 2020.

Chief Justice Roberts warns Socialist Democrats and Media.

"“We have come to take democracy for granted, and civic education has fallen by the wayside,” Roberts wrote. “In our age, when social media can instantly spread rumor and false information on a grand scale, the public’s need to understand our government, and the protections it provides, is ever more vital.”

, reversing the trend during the Obama years when 200,000 manufacturing jobs were lost."

BWAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!! And gave trump a growing economy as the basis for his 2% gdp growth!!!!!!!!

Since President Donald Trump took office:

The economy added 6 million jobs, and the unemployment rate dropped to the lowest level in nearly 50 years.
Economic growth fell far short of the annual 4% to 6% Trump promised. The most recent rate is 2.0%.
The federal debt went up more than $2.4 trillion. The annual deficit hit nearly $1 trillion in fiscal year 2019 – the highest since 2012.
Median household income rose 2.3%. Average weekly paychecks rose 2.8%. The poverty rate and food stamp rolls declined.
Stock prices rose: The S&P 500 index was up 29.8%. Single-family home prices rose nearly 23%, hitting a record level in June.
The trade deficit — which Trump promised to reduce — went up 30%.
The number of Americans lacking health insurance rose nearly 2 million.
The number of murders dropped 6.9%. But the number of rapes went up.
Illegal border crossings nearly doubled, as of the most recent 12 months on record.
Trump has filled 43 seats on federal appeals courts, compared with 25 filled by Obama at the same point in his first term.

That continued an unbroken chain of monthly gains in total employment that started in October 2010. The economy has now added jobs for 108 consecutive months — just shy of nine years — including the first 32 months of the Trump administration.

The average monthly gain under Trump so far is 188,000 — compared with an average monthly gain of 217,000 during Obama’s second term. Trump is far behind the pace needed to fulfill his campaign boast that he will be “the greatest jobs president that God ever created.”

Giuliani Will ‘Do Demonstrations’ at Trump’s Trial
January 1, 2020

Daily Beast:
“Rudy Giuliani is prepared to do more than just testify at President Trump’s upcoming impeachment trial. The former New York City mayor made clear in comments to reporters on Tuesday night that he’s ready to pull out all the stops to defend his client—and that apparently includes giving ‘lectures’ and doing ‘demonstrations.’ Asked if he will testify at the trial, Giuliani appeared unable to settle on a single, coherent answer.”

Said Giuliani:
“I would testify, I would, um, do demonstrations. I’d give lectures, I’d give summations. Or, I’d do what I do best, I’d try the case. I’d love to try the case. Well I don’t know if anybody would have the courage to give me the case, but, uh, if you give me the case, I will prosecute it as a racketeering case, which I kind of invented anyway.”

On New Year’s Day in 1863, the Republican Party’s Emancipation Proclamation came into effect. While Republicans rejoiced, Democrat politicians and newspapers denounced President Abraham Lincoln (R-IL) for freeing slaves.

Demonstrating their depravity, New York’s Gov. Horatio Seymour, who would be the 1868 Democrat presidential nominee, denounced the Emancipation Proclamation as “a proposal for the butchery of women and children.”

The Louisville Daily Democrat called it “an outrage of all constitutional law, all human justice, all Christian feeling.”

That ENTIRE stimulus package was written right into that deficit.

Besides we are talking three years into Obama's Presidency and we were still seeing the highest deficits we ever seen.

Look what Trump has accomplished in three years without any trillion dollar stimulus package, and with the Feds raising rates most of the time. All it took was some common sense tax cuts, eliminating costly and stupid Govt over-regulations, and a little push back on the countries that had been raping us in Trade for years.

Trump shrugs off Kim Jong Un's nuclear testing threat: 'He likes me'

Hours after North Korean leader Kim Jong Un signaled that his country is developing a “new strategic weapon” and could soon resume testing nuclear weapons and long-range ballistic missiles, President Donald Trump appeared to shrug off the potential threat — saying at a New Year’s Eve party that Kim “likes me” and is a “man of his word.”

Kim — as reported by Korean Central News Agency, the state mouthpiece — said on Wednesday local time that he no longer felt obliged to stick to a self-imposed moratorium on nuclear and long-range missile testing, which he said Pyongyang has abided by for the past two years.

The North Korean leader accused the U.S. of engaging in “gangster-like acts,” such as continuing to hold joint military drills with South Korea. Under such conditions, Kim said, there is no reason for Pyongyang to remain “unilaterally bound to the commitment any longer.”

Kim did not go so far as to say that he was ditching nuclear negotiations with the U.S., which have stalled since 2018 when Trump and Kim made vague promises to work toward denuclearization in the Korean Peninsula during a summit in Singapore. But Kim “confirmed that the world will witness a new strategic weapon to be possessed by [North Korea] in the near future,” KCNA reported, without elaborating on the type of weapon it would be.

“I think he’s a man of his word,” Trump says of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un

Asked about Kim’s strong rhetoric at a New Year’s Eve bash held at Mar-a-Lago, Trump’s Palm Beach resort, on Tuesday night, the president said only that he and Kim “get along” and had come to certain agreements in Singapore.

“He likes me, I like him, we get along,” Trump said when asked about Kim’s remarks from earlier in the day. "He did sign a contract, he did sign an agreement talking about denuclearization. ... That was done in Singapore, and I think he’s a man of his word, so we’re going to find out, but I think he’s a man of his word,” Trump continued.

U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo told CBS News earlier in the day that it would be “deeply disappointing” if Kim “reneged on the commitments he made to President Trump.”

“He made those commitments to President Trump in exchange for President Trump agreeing not to conduct large-scale military exercises,” Pompeo said. “We’ve lived up to our commitments. We continue to hold out hope that he will live up to his as well.”

The Obama administration ran a deficit above $1 trillion for the next three years. By the time the president left office, the deficit sat at $666 billion. The lowest figure achieved during his presidency was $438 billion in 2015.

Trump seems to have lost interest in the deficit as soon as he won the presidency. Once the deficit crossed the $1 trillion mark again, the Trump administration expected it to stay there for three years.

but the number of people employed is only matched by the polling on our economy. According to Gallup only 9% of the public rate the economy as poor, which is the first time since 2001 that has happened. 55% see it as Excellent or Good and a majority still say it is getting better.

The economy is not "mired" at anything.

The current index value is now just four points below the +33 registered in October 2018, the highest reading since the late 1990s/early 2000s economic boom. The highest Gallup has ever measured was +56 in January 2000.

In other words, the Trump economy is pummeling the "Obama economy" which had eight years to get nothing done!

DEBT AND DEFICITS

Trump's Nearly $1 Trillion Deficit Is Worse Than a Broken Promise

The president doesn't even understand the difference between a budget deficit and a trade deficit.

One of the refrains from President Trump's most ardent defenders—as well as from the president himself—is that he keeps his promises. For the last several years, the Republican National Committee, which serves as a de facto arm of the president's political operation, has been touting "promises made, promises kept," a phrase that the president has repeated at campaign stops and rallies.

The idea behind the slogan is to combat the idea that Trump has few policy accomplishments, and to portray the president as someone who can be relied on to follow through on his campaign promises. He's a president you can count on.

Yet when it comes to the federal debt, Trump is clearly failing to live up to his own words. In April 2016, Trump told The Washington Post, "We've got to get rid of the $19 trillion debt." And he believed he could make that happen in a relatively compressed time frame. "I think I could do it fairly quickly," he said. How quickly? "I would say over a period of eight years."

Nearly three years into his presidency, however, the debt has risen to surpass $22 trillion. And federal budget deficits—the annual gap between revenues and spending—are growing ever larger, hitting levels not seen since the aftermath of the recession during President Obama's first term.

According to a new estimate from the Congressional Budget Office (CBO), the federal budget deficit for the 2019 fiscal year, which ended last month, was about $984 billion dollars. That just-shy-of-a-trillion dollar figure is higher than projected, and represents an increase of about 50 percent from when Trump took office, and an increase of about $200 billion from last year alone. It's more than double the $442 billion deficit under Obama in 2015.

In the macro, political-difference-making scheme of the universe, it is almost certainly futile to dwell on the question of how Republicans would have reacted to such debt-and-deficit totals under President Obama, and yet: Imagine how Republicans would have reacted to such debt-and-deficit totals under Obama.

Actually, we don't have to imagine. We know.
Because Republicans warned, loudly and repeatedly, that Obama's deficits, which came in the aftermath of a nationwide economic slowdown, were apocalyptic, catastrophic, world ending, and so on and so forth.

Honest, decent, truthful Rev. said...

Yet here we are. Trump is president, and he has allowed the deficit to soar beyond the increases that were already projected to happen. And Republicans in Congress have reacted with muted concern at best, and more like a collective shrug. Trillion-dollar deficits under a Democrat were a national emergency. Trillion-dollar deficits under Trump are no biggie. It's almost like the real problem, for many Republicans, wasn't the deficit.

Republicans in Congress, who manage the budget process and who have signed on to various deals that spend more on domestic spending (a Democratic priority) in order to secure more spending on defense spending (a Republican priority), are, of course, a big part of the problem. A president cannot unilaterally address the annual budget deficit without significant help from the legislature.

But part of the problem is that Trump, being Trump, thought he could. In the 2016 interview where he raised the possibility of eliminating federal debt in eight years, he said he could do it through altering foreign trade deals. "The power is trade," he said. "Our deals are so bad." Trump said he would renegotiate trade deals with China, in particular, suggesting that doing so would eliminate federal debt.

In many ways, that was the most telling part of Trump's response. He appears to have confused the foreign trade deficit with the federal budget deficit, a confusion that he has stubbornly held onto throughout his time as president. In the meantime, both the budget deficit and the trade deficit have increased. Trump has failed on both measures. And, as with his confusion about the budget deficit, his trade agenda has been driven by false claims and deep misconceptions about how trade works.

Trump's nearly trillion-dollar deficits help reveal a deeper problem with the president, one that simple arguments about promises kept or unkept can sometimes fail to capture. It's not just that Trump can't be counted on to live up to his word. It's that Trump can't even be counted on to comprehend the promises he's made.
